"Revolution Rent follows Andy Señor Jr. to Cuba, where he is tasked with directing a stage production of the Tony and Pulitzer-winning musical, Rent, the country’s first Broadway musical produced by an American company in more than 50 years. Returning to his exiled parents’ homeland, Señor Jr. embarks on a personal journey as he reimagines the show with a Cuban context, exploring his family's heritage and the complex relationship they have with the country they love." Premieres Tuesday, June 15 at 9pm on HBO and HBO Max

I'm not the type who would normally go to the media to get my boss or whoever to do the right thing, but sometimes, like with Weinstein, you need to. LAPD needs to get its house in order but sometimes it takes citizens and outside forces to do it (as with any business or government agency). But media writer Maureen Ryan, who has exposed multiple wrongdoings in Hollywood, pointed out recently, the media and/or public scrutiny should not substitute for a good in-house HR office or the company itself doing the right thing, but it can get the ball rolling on the road to make lasting changes. The police unions definitely need to clean up their act, especially when it comes to bad cops. It will be interesting to see what happens to Hondo because that's a ballsy move

S04.E05: The Book of Ruin: Chapter One: Picking Up the Pieces
DanaK replied to Trini's topic in Black Lightning
All this angst and wallowing by Jeff is very annoying and bringing down this last season, as is the whole Pierce family anger at each other. It looks like it’s starting to abate though, with Jeff taking on the mantle of Black Lightning again I thought Lala needed a special process to resurrect, but I could be misremembering his previous resurrections. I also thought a tattoo got added to his body after each resurrection but it didn’t seem to happen this time Recasting Jenn and explaining it by having the character’s genes express her looks differently as she got put back together was an interesting choice. It’s scifi so it works for me -
I enjoyed seeing the old gang come together for Sean and his portrayer John Reilly even if the caper was kind of lame and too short. What I don’t quite understand is why they were doing a memorial, including a full episode, for a character that hasn’t been on the show for a long time. I’m sure many viewers were confused as to who this guy was Regarding Luke and Tony Geary, he was powerful and ate the show and held it to his whims, very likely long past when he should have, and it’s clear Maurice Bernard is the current guy doing the same. There are times it seems he’s bored and doesn’t want to be there. Plus, like Geary, he should have been successful outside soaps and wasn’t

Clearly those two need to get together as a couple. They may be the only sane ones in that extended family

Yay for a full forum! Also, I’d be interested to see if there are any media follow ups with or about those folks who were unhappy about the show before it premiered worried that it wasn’t properly representing Afghanistan, especially with Al being played by a South Asian (which does bother me)
-
Aw, poor Al in this latest episode, with the Afghan American lady ripping into him for being an interpreter for the Americans. I was surprised they went there with them discussing how there were no easy choices and Al admitting the Americans didn’t end up being the country’s saviors. I appreciate the writers didn’t hold back on how it really is. I did like the guest actress

I enjoyed the last 2 episodes, especially the camping one, the last episode not quite as much. The camping one was funny and enjoyable, even though I don’t really like Jen that much. The last episode was pretty good and nostalgic, though it was a little heavy handed having mourning for the stolen truck as a stand in for the ending of the show Tim Allen has made it clear in interviews he resisted ending the show. I think he made that initial ABC cancelation political when he didn’t need to, and bringing it back with so many changes because of unavailability of the cast hurt it. It probably should have ended when ABC canceled it. It definitely lasted a season or two longer than it should have

It totally feels like NBC is burying the final season and trying to usher it out as quickly as it can, all because it’s a police show

The first episode of Life at the Waterhole was pretty interesting. The thing I kept thinking was how are they going to feel if some of those animals get eaten by predators simply because they were lured to a man-made waterhole for study? Though I think they hinted that some were killed on their way to the waterhole

I never made the connection that Maya Robinson, who plays Geena, also played Michelle in The Unicorn until I read a recent interview with the showrunner

I totally did not like Tyler in the role and I agree x 1000 that Gina Torres is doing great and is a wonderful addition to the cast

CBS’s Sunday 10pm slot is a terrible time slot, particularly for viewers, as whatever show is in there gets frequently delayed because of football. I add an hour padding for a CBS Sunday 10pm show, if I’m watching it, on my DVR’s season pass just in case the show runs over its time slot, which is frequent. Given the lateness of the hour, it’s hard to catch manually. So I don’t hold high hopes for SWAT, especially given an initial move to Fridays, then a later move to late on Sundays. Though 10pm in general is a tough slot these days and SWAT has been holding that pretty well for awhile

Will always falls on his sword for Nat and this time he shouldn’t have I thought Charles’s patient had seemed to recover too quickly; I guess she was just putting on a front. He was way too patient with her given her nuttiness and clingy behavior, but at least she’s getting proper help now

CBS released its Fall schedule and SWAT moves to Fridays at 8pm for the Fall and will then move to Sundays at 10pm sometime later in the season http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news/2021/05/19/cbs-announces-new-fall-schedule-for-2021-2022-704015/20210519cbs01/

I found it amusing that Denise’s creative attempts to avoid more work only endeared her to Harrison and impressed him with how smart she was. It also led him to push her to get her paralegal license or whatever it was

Such a sweet ending that works nicely as a series finale

I probably missed it but did Stevens refuse to let Dre move to the general market and only allow it once Dre quit, or did Dre have a hissy fit and quit before he deigned to ask? Stevens seems like too narrow minded a firm for Dre but he did hint that staying was a decision for now until he gets experience with the general market I look forward to see what Dre does in the regular market next season

It cracks me up every time they bring out the joke that Monica owns the house and Alan gave it to her, though they seem to be really overusing the joke lately I don't understand why Maxie didn't jump on Anna's offer to spirit her away from Peter. At least she wouldn't be working a plan alone and have to claim the baby was dead. She also should have told Anna about her own plan with Brooklyn and maybe they could have folded the two plans together. Of course, if she had taken Anna up on her offer, it would have left Brooklyn high and dry and maybe she didn't want to do that I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't want to have anything to do with the Nixon Falls storyline. I continue to fast forward through that as much as possible It's too bad Sharon Wyatt won't be appearing as Tiffany, but apparently the actress had part of her jaw removed recently

Yes, sorry, I did mean her about compartmentalizing. I think I got that from a producer or Gina Torres interview about those scenes. Regarding Grace asking her colleague to pull up the 911 call and play it, is that allowed without a supervisor signoff? That just seemed unrealistic

S02.E13: Zoey’s Extraordinary Goodbye
DanaK replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist
It continues to crack me up that Zoey and others continue to use DMD's full name when referring to him and especially when addressing him to his face
