  1. Me and my husband were literally just reminiscing about Pee Wee Herman last night after our 13 year old brought him up out of the blue. Crazy!! Playhouse was always must watch for us as kids!
  2. Loved this episode! I like that so far this season seems to be moving the plot along instead of treading water on the same dull storylines season after season. I have to say though that I was pretty triggered this whole episode and had a hard time holding back tears. We just returned home yesterday after my 10 year old son underwent his 2nd heart surgery in 9 months from a rare undiagnosed heart defect that didn’t present until last summer. He was in fact sleeping in bed next to me while I watched because he had spiked a fever and I wanted to monitor him through the night. As a non book reader the practical side of me wonders how Roger and Bri expect to jump through the stones and get medical care with no insurance, no address, no birth certificate or social security number for Amanda but with a lot of stuff on this show I have to suspend reality and just go with it :)
  3. Yes. The ending sucked. And I don’t like things where dogs die but at least it was done off screen. I haven’t seen Kaley in anything since Big Bang Theory and enjoyed her performance here even if it is typecast. I may check out The Flight Attendant because this definitely left me wanting more. I liked the two male leads and know I’ve seen them in other things so I’ll have to go look that up. It was funny seeing Ruby’s husband played by the guy that got his foot ran over by the tractor in Mad Men! He’s aged a bit or they aged him up for this. A bit too many gratuitous sex scenes for my liking especially since I binged this yesterday and today in the hospital.I mostly FFW through those. My 10 year old had heart surgery and he was in la la land and it was the perfect distraction for me.
  4. I took my first step today in trying to get help for myself by signing up for Better Help. Hopefully I can get something out of it. I've been on the struggle bus since early 2022. I've been married almost 20 years and have three children. Last year my 6 year old daughter broke her arm requiring surgery and a cast. Got the cast off and she broke it again one month later requiring more surgery and another cast. And a final surgery this past December. Meanwhile my then 12 year old son is acting out in school, failing classes, getting in school suspensions. We finally got him on ADD medication which has helped a lot. Meanwhile, my 10 year old son had High Blood Pressure which the dr could not figure out. After multiple specialist appointments, blood work, CT scans, Ultra Sounds, etc we figured out that he has a Congenital Heart Defect that was not detected until now. He had to have surgery in September of 2022 to place two stents in his heart. Fast forward to now and he has developed an aneurysm at the site the stents were placed. We have to have surgery again next month to change the type of stent which can cause all sorts of risks including cutting off blood flow to his spinal cord. His CHD is one of the rarest types in the world and there is nothing I can even look up to see what the outcome may be. I am a wreck and have resorted to drinking to help me cope as well as a mild anti anxiety medication prescribed by my dr. I have not been intimate with my husband since this all started. Needless to say, we met our $16,000 medical deductible last year.

As a Canes fan it pained me to have to "nope" out at the 3rd OT. My brother however called in sick today. My wake up call is 6:00am and I went to bed at 1:30. Today was a loooooong day!
  6. I live in Asheville. Local media is going crazy reporting on this. Can't say I remember hearing about her but I watch so many true crime shows I can't say I would have been able to spot her. Good on the employee!
  7. Same! We must have the same toothbrush. I’ve learned to not spit for two minutes but it sometimes makes me gag so I give up on the timer.

Despite my two boys playing roller hockey for the past five years my brother turned me into an avid Ice Hockey fan this year. He bought our family fourth row tickets to the Hurricanes as a Christmas present and it was amazing. I’m so glad to see them advance and the Stadium Series was awesome to watch! I live only 30 minutes away from my brother but we watch all the Hurricanes games and text each other the entire time. I caught tonight’s game with the Devils and Rags and there were a lot of big nasty hits! My 10 year old plays goalie (in full Goldberg gear no less) and I always have a soft spot for those guys. Such a tough position. My son was diagnosed with a Congenital Heart Defect over the summer and he lives and breathes hockey. Roller hockey is no where near as crazy as ice but the cardiologist only cleared him to play goalie. Hopefully he’s not watching these ice games lol!
  9. I think he said face like Jayne Mansfield which either way still made me roll my eyes. I almost thought this was a better Finn episode than the last one. Olivia heavy still but they know how to pull some of the wayward audience back in by featuring a Dementia storyline. I thought it was well done and made me think of my own dearly departed grandpa from dementia.
  10. Yes, yes and yes!!! As a Panthers fan I’ve always loved Greg Olsen and what he’s done for Levines Childrens Hospital in Charlotte. I remember when his son had his heart transplant. My 10 year old underwent his own emergency heart procedure at Levines last summer. McCaffrey is (or was) very involved with Levines when he was in Charlotte. I’m really hoping 49ers pull out the win tonight!
  11. My 10 year old son had an appointment with his cardiologist this morning to check up on his repaired aortic coarctation. He is not allowed to play contact sports so naturally I brought up this Hamlin incident. He was very aware of what happened and it called it some big C word. Corc....? I can't remember but he suggested this was not related to any sort of undiagnosed heart condition (which was my first thought) and that this could happen to anyone but the odds are like 1 in a million. I'm so relieved to hear he has been improving!
  12. I didn’t even mention coarctation but you knew. Unfortunately you must be familiar. We go in Thursday to see if we can go off the BP meds. They’ll send him home with a 24 hour cuff. Football related: our cardiologist says absolutely no contact sports. I hate to see players taken out like this.
  13. God! I’ve literally spent 2022 crying. 2022 fucked me up so bad I had to get on medication. My daughter broke her arm twice in the same place. She has had four surgeries on it from February 2022-December 2022. She’s 6. Took my middle child to his yearly check up in March 2022 only to find out he had high blood pressure (he’s 10). After Ct scans, kidney drs, heart drs we found out he was born with a congenital heart defect. He plays hockey and if we didn’t find this when we did he could have been this player on the field. My sons hockey career looks different than we expected as he now has two stents placed on his aorta. The Dr cleared him for goalie on the roller hockey league though. We did preventative Echos on the other two kids and my daughter came up with ASD (Whole in the heart). I know it’s a socioeconomic issue globally but get your kids checked!! Thank god I wasn’t watching tonight’s game. What a sad thing to witness.
  14. Biltmore Estate is absolutely stunning. I don’t think it’s a tourist trap at all. It’s expensive to visit yes but it’s very clear that you are buying tickets to tour a grand home that is incredibly old and that’s exactly what you get when you arrive. I’ve toured it at least five times (I live in Asheville) and find something new to enjoy each time. My kids love it! They usually have a different theme each time you visit as well. One time I went it was Downton Abbey and they had costumes from the characters on the show on display, one time it was Titanic. Then they have the summer concert series and I saw Barry Manilow (I think it was him) outside on the grounds. I do wish it were easier for locals to be able to enjoy Biltmore Grounds and restaurants without having to pay the ridiculous price for entry but I digress. We have so many other beautiful places here that are free to enjoy beautiful views. The local news said they are having casting calls now for extras!
  15. Gosh. I look at all these pictures she posts having had some bit of sympathy because mothers all started off somewhere with no experience. Usually by kid #2 you’ve got things mostly figured out by kid 3 (in my case)I felt like a pro. Fast forward to this year and I find out my 10 year old has a congenital heart defect that went undetected from birth despite my having taken him to every well child visit and whatever else my dr recommended. He ended up needing urgent surgery and has two stents in his aortic valve now. we had precautionary echos done on my other two kids last week and my youngest (6) has ASD (hole in the heart). And through this all I can do is look back and blame myself knowing I did nothing wrong but I take solace in the fact that I was never as bad a mother as Carlin presents herself to be.
  16. I’m not upset about a win. I watch football to see my team win and last night felt good (minus the aforementioned ear issues which subsequently landed me in Urgent Care this morning. Woke up in a pool of blood. Was right that I ruptured my ear drum. Yay for Me). Ive always liked PJ. He’s just a bit too short to get those completed passes I would like to see in a QB. He seems to get swallowed up a lot. I don’t know what the QB answer is in Carolina but as a fan I’d rather watch my team win and lose draft spots than lose for yet another rookie that’s just going to be benched. They need to figure out how to make what they have work for them at this moment. I say this as someone who does not follow college ball at all but am aware enough to know who we should be “tanking” for. In other news, I’m glad the Panthers game is out of the way so I can relax and recover on Sunday. Besides fantasy points I don’t really make other NFL games a priority in my house. Like to have football on for background noise but I enjoy having no real rooting interest in other teams. I bought tickets weeks ago for some animal free circus that’s in town that I have to take my 3 kids to tonight (busted ear drum be damned) and Sunday my husband is taking my 2 boys to their first hockey game. Hockey rules the roost in this house when it comes to the male dna. My husband and two sons play in a local roller hockey league (well one son now as the other was diagnosed with CHD over the summer and can no longer play but he lives vicariously). Me and the girl will enjoy some crafting time together while I vaguely pay attention to football.
  17. Not sure how many times I’ve mentioned this before but I loathe watching Thursday night football on Prime. I watched most of the pregame on NFL or ESPN with Steve Smith who I ❤️. Switched over to prime 30 minutes before kickoff and couldn’t even watch five minutes of the pregame before I turned it off. Coverage was just awful IMO. The only reason I’m watching tonight is because the Panthers are unfortunately my team and I have to watch them lose (try to win). I wish I could get the game on a local channel since I am in the Carolina’s but no such luck. Number one reason Prime sucks is because I can’t flip to something else during commercial breaks and I refuse to watch football on my phone. I tested positive for flu on Monday so have been feeling pretty crummy lately. To top it off I think I ruptured my eardrum tonight so am only able to hear out of one ear at the moment. Relying on one ear means I’m hearing a lot of extra crazy noises I don’t usually hear. Actually I think I’m hallucinating because the Panthers are actually winning.
  18. So I am just a browser on this particular topic and I may be very well misinformed but I keep seeing things about Carlin and heart issues and testing, etc….. my situation is different because I’m dealing with a minor with heart issues but…… In July my 10 year old presented with high Blood Pressure at his well child check. We went through EKG’s, Ct scans, echocardiogram, until we found out he had a Congenital Heart Defect called Coarctation of the aorta. He was operated on September 1. I don’t understand why it’s taking Carlin so long to get these tests done? CHD is hereditary. Being 1 of 1500 kids makes it more likely not to mention Alyssa’s issues. I have precautionary echos scheduled for my 13 and 6 year old just to make sure they don’t suffer from the same CHD their brother does.

  20. Robbie Anderson pitched a fit on the sidelines yesterday during the Panthers game and got banned to the locker room. Today he got traded to Arizona. Also the backup, backup, backup QB got injured so we pulled a guy from the practice squad and in true Panthers fashion we managed to lose the lead and the game. Panthers have been a shit show since our SB appearance in 2016. I’ve been attending one game a year since around 2009 but I’m done now.
  21. Don’t worry. Panthers will find a way to lose the game. They always do…
  22. I have a few friends in my class that need special attention. If they have an IEP in place they are mostly treated like Micha by all staff. It can be a struggle but he had the right idea by finding a way to connect with him through Bluey. Sometimes you just have to feign interest in order to connect and that can make all the difference. We have one particular child that needs what we call an EC (exceptional teacher) on him at all times due to his ADD/ODD/Autism and violent outbursts. I have finally found a way to connect with him without his EC present and that has been very rewarding. On the other hand, I have a child who lives in la-la land and I can’t get through to him for anything. But no IEP in place so it’s hard to get him the help he deserves. The education system is interesting. Enjoyed the cooking scenes outside of the school but would have liked to see what they were making :)
  23. In the words of Lizzo, “It’s about damn time”. I’ve hated being a Panthers fan these past three years. We also have no QB currently and will be relying on PJ Walker these next few weeks. An UO but I actually like PJ.
  24. Yet another episode that resonated with me.I work at a Charter school and it’s not lost on me that we have some advantages over the public school system in terms of funding and as someone on the episode said, different qualifications for teachers. seeing the difference is jarring as I’ve never worked in a public school system but my oldest has attended. At my current school each elementary classroom has 10 iPads per 22 students. I couldn’t imagine fighting for one computer for a few hundred students to share! I did enjoy the full circle story arc of the ice water guy though! That made me smile :)
  25. Yes those days are over. It’s such a frustrating market. We are getting ready to list our 4/3 house in order to live in a better school district. We would list for 400,000 which is great considering what we bought our house for but to find anything comparable we are looking at $700,000. It makes the most sense to sell and wait for the market to be a buyers market but rent is so outrageous here as well- double what my current mortgage payment is. It’s frustrating.
