Maybe you saw the filmed version of the Menier Chocolate Factory production about 10 years ago? I saw it in a movie theater and...the show still didn't work. Maria Friedman directed that version, and she has directed the version opening on Broadway, so I'm not expecting this one to work either. But the cast and the score will get me through it. Also, The Best Worst Thing That Ever Could Have Happened is wonderful and sad.

Vacations: Where To Go, What To See, Where To Eat
ebk57 replied to tribeca's topic in Everything Else
It's been a few years, but we just went with the Super Shuttle (or whatever it's called now) from and back to the airport. We were staying in the downtown area though, so didn't need a car. Mr. ebk was working, so I wandered around during the day. Particularly loved the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Ryman Auditorium tours, and hanging out at Tootsie's Orchid Lounge listening to music. I also loved the Tennessee State Museum, which used to be across the street from our hotel (and free!), but I was informed that it has moved, although still in the downtown area. We really enjoyed our dinner at Etch. The other place we loved, The Capitol Grille, has closed. There are a few posts a couple pages back all about Nashville. They may be of some help to you, @Leeds -
I have no idea why this makes me so happy, but it does.

Where to begin... The show premiered in 1981. I think it ran for about 2 weeks. I saw one of the first previews, where the most memorable thing to me was a character crashing into a paper swimming pool. Yes, really. The book is not good. That said, the score is glorious. I love it so much. And the theme of the show - old friends - touches me deeply. And that's why I've tried to see most of the rewrites to the book. People have been trying to fix it since 1981, but I really think it's not fixable. However, I'll always go just to hear the score. And this time, to see Daniel Radcliff. I've never read a Harry Potter book, nor seen any of the movies, but I've seen him on stage and he throws himself into everything so convincingly. I'm really looking forward to this. I'm pretty certain the show still won't work overall, but still... I keep hoping.

Went to see Lyle Lovett at The Birchmere a couple of weeks ago. He was with the acoustic band this time. I'd never seen this particular formation and they are spectacular. Lyle and 4 guys - piano, bass, keyboard, guitar. The show was about 3 hours and was so enjoyable. And, before the show, while we were waiting in line to go in, Lyle came out to take pictures of us - for some unknown reason. Then, he took time to work the line as we were going in - again, for some unknown reason. But, it was delightful. I stole this pic from someone's Twitter. It's the perfect picture of my big, orange phone 😄

You should go! I think it's great that you know when your first game was and who the opponent was. I have no idea when my first game was, other than sometime in the late 60s.

Got tickets to Merrily in January! I'm so excited that I keep forgetting I'll be making a trip to NYC in August. I guess I should plan that one first.

I was quite surprised to see her there on the set and worried that she's try to actually say something. Fortunately, she didn't. Love Bomani.

First day of Spring is my wedding anniversary (20 years today!), so that's fun. Also, spring means baseball!!! Can't think of anything bad about it at the moment.

I really enjoyed Something Rotten, Spamalot and Book of Mormon. I wish I could say the same for Beetlejuice. Maybe it's because I saw the second show ever (the pre-Broadway tryout in DC) and it just wasn't any good at that point. I just felt it wasn't even good enough to try again later after it was "fixed." That said, there seems to be lots of folks who love it as much as you do. So as long as you had a great time, go with that!

Just wait till the Terps beat Alabama tomorrow! (And this is probably my last post for this season... )

If you have the patience to wade through about 15 pages of "word on the street" (along with some personal bitching), here's the thread on BroadwayWorld starting the date the show started previews. https://www.broadwayworld.com/board/readmessage.php?thread=1155152&page=15 I wasn't interested before reading this, and I'm still not interested. I absolutely loved the original production, and really enjoyed the Sondheim Celebration production at the Kennedy Center (whenever that was) and would have liked to see it in the pie shop a couple/few years ago (but didn't make it). However, this casting doesn't interest me at all. If you don't have patience with that thread (which I'd totally understand), maybe someone in the NYC contingent here has seen it and will chime in.

I'm sorry - didn't mean to sound like a scold. I knew you were joking. I was trying to type fast since the thread was moving so fast and I don't do that very well 😀 -

You mean like I have all my bobbleheads in my office instead of at home? Probably not... Have you ever held an Oscar. I got to pick one up at my office a while ago - they're reeeeally heavy. Spinal issues for sure if you wear them around your neck. -

I'm happy and impressed she's wearing a mask! She's doing A Doll's House on Broadway now and I'm sure doesn't want to miss any performances. -

Honestly, she's the best and has a great sense of humor. She was on NPR's Wait Wait Don't Tell me last weekend and was incredibly charming and funny. -

Also from the NYT about 20 minutes ago: Reggie Ugwu By my count, 13 out of 23 awards have now been handed out, which means — two hours in — we’re a little over halfway through. We'll be here until tomorrow. -

From Wesley Morris in the NYT - this is how I feel about the song: With her makeup wiped off, Lady Gaga is now Glenn Close in the last shot of “Dangerous Liaisons.” And she’s benchpressing the blues out in this otherwise underwhelming song. -

This. I'm not sure what I think of the song, but she's an amazing talent. -

I was checking out the LA Times (since I have a gift sub), but the NYT commentary is better. -

I'd rather see 100 trailers for Little Mermaid than listen to either of the nominated songs so far. And I love David Byrne. I can only hope the others are ... better. -

Who wants to get me that sweet Mr. Met as Indiana Jones bobblehead??
