    How bout dem Os hon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. We're seeing it in January and I'm really looking forward to it! I saw the original production in previews (they were still using the paper swimming pool) and even though I'm sure the show will never work, I absolutely love the score and the old friends theme touches me deeply. I've seen a few productions since the original and it's too bad the book is unfixable. Doesn't stop me from buying tickets each time! The documentary is wonderful.

That's the picture! He insisted on making it personal because, as someone said on the radio today, he didn't think of us as his fans, but as his friends. An amazing man.

My sister worked with Ken Singleton at the TV station here. And since then, he is always referred to in our house as Kenny "he's such a nice guy" Singleton, because, well, he's such a nice guy. My one personal encounter with Brooks was getting his autograph on the picture of him leaping into the air after the World Series win. And he didn't just want to sign his name, so he wrote "Thinking of you" before signing it... which is sorta weird, but really sweet.

I am here at the game tonight. And really sad. Brooks is my favorite player of all time. And a really great guy
  6. Meanwhile, there's a documentary out there about Jon which could be up for an Oscar this season. It will be on Netflix at some point, after release in theaters.

I love everything about this post!! 🧡
  8. I wear mono-lenses and I do need reading glasses and have for several years, so that may not be the cure needed. Although I do second the suggestion to find a new eye doctor. That's what I just did and now I'm going to have cataract surgery next month. We'll see how this turns out.
  9. The last episode that recorded was Jerry Brown, which is listed as episode 6. The Bella Abzug episode is listed as episode 10, so I guess in about a month it should show up.
  10. I didn't watch either, but I've read the answer is a firm "NO"

Not a chance on this earth! 😄 Our seats now are upstairs behind home plate. Just under cover and in the shade. My ideal seats would be the first row of the terrace box seats (above the walkway on the lower deck), or the last row in the club seats (second level), both on the 3rd base side because - shade! Last night we sat in the lower box seats just behind 3rd. Waaaaay too much activity there between the restless patrons and the vendors blocking home plate. No thanks.
  13. While it doesn't seem like my vision has deteriorated quite to the point yours did, I just had a consult with the surgeon yesterday and it seems I will have this done next month. And I'm sure afterwards I'll be thrilled, as everyone else here has mentioned. I'm just a bit nervous though... I've worn glasses since I was 6 and contacts since I was 11 as I was losing sight in my left eye. That's 60+ years and I don't know how I'll be myself if I can actually see. I know that sounds silly, but I have real concerns. At least for the moment (not the least of which is that this will interfere with any postseason Os games that I want to attend. Although with the way they've been playing lately, that may not be a concern at all. But that's an entire other conversation.) Anyway, it's happening and I guess I'll figure it out. Mr. ebk and Brother ebk had this done in the past couple of years and they're both very happy. I'll get there. Glad for the encouraging results from everyone here.
  14. Me too! And I'm kinda not... I'll finish this in the health thread.

Thanks. The evening was fabulous if you leave out the actual game. A bunch of his old teammates showed up, and there was a video tribute from a bunch of other old teammates, along with some of the current team. His family was there. It was quite lovely. The weather was perfect. And then, the game started... ah well. We did rule out another section of seats for next year (we've been talking about upgrading our season seats). At this point, we may just keep the seats we have because they're really fine...and relatively cheap.

  18. Hope you enjoy them! Looking forward to your thoughts. We're seeing Girl From the North Country in December and Company in March at the Kennedy Center.
  19. Google makes a phone - the Pixel - that I've read only good things about. I think they come in somewhat inexpensive models...maybe? Right now I have a Samsung Galaxy 10+ which I got a bit over 4 years ago and it's still going strong. But when the time comes that I will need a new phone, I'm leaning strongly towards a Pixel.

I was going to post this story, but couldn't figure out how to do it without being shouty and ranty - and still not actually surprised.
  21. The checks don't bounce
  22. And after (or before, not sure of the timeline) a somewhat reasonable take in the above post, he says this. He's such a jerk.
  23. I've been to Peter Luger's. It was fun, but a little far away from where we usually stay. The food was fine and the service lived up to its reputation as a bit brusque. Our go-to old-timey steakhouse is Keen's. Sorry the creamed spinach didn't live up to its namesake.

Actually, no. I've been to Oakland many times. I've been to all the stadiums that were open since the 70s, except Fulton County Stadium and Exhibition Park (or whatever the stadium in Toronto was called). I'm talking about the ones built since 1992. I still need to go to Petco and the New, New Busch. I won't be going to the new Atlanta ballpark since they felt the need to leave a perfectly lovely Turner Field to get away from "that" neighborhood on the taxpayers' dime. I also won't be going out of my way to get to the new park in Arlington, although I suppose if I should ever find myself in Texas again, I might go. I feel like there's another one, but it's not coming to mind at the moment. I'll see how the possible As move goes, but since I hate Vegas, chances are I won't be going there. Favorite parks - PNC for new, Fenway for old. And Camden Yards, of course.

Did I ever mention my first visit to (old, but not first) Yankee Stadium? Neighborhood - unimpressive. Outside of building - meh. Concourse - absolutely awful. Cramped, dark, too many people. Then I walked up the ramp to the stadium...and wow, it was awe-inspiring. It was Yankee Stadium and it was fabulous. The new stadium is fine. It's new and shiny and bright...and just like so many other new stadiums. It's not that I'd refuse to go there again, but I'm not sure I'd voluntarily choose to go. Someday I'll get to the 2 new stadiums I haven't been to (and want to go to - there are 3(?) that I have no intention of ever visiting).
