  1. I didn't find this too over-the-top especially when you consider the source material. Nancy Mitford mined her family and their upbringing to create the characters. I thought Emily Mortimer did a great job adapting the book and including known facts of the Mitfords while subtracting the Nazi elements. After Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette, I am used to anachronistic music used in period dramas. This project was conceived well before Bridgerton became a thing last year. This is not one of the soon-to-be numerous Bridgerton knockoffs.
  2. I wonder if the Medi Corps Corps guys will actually set foot in Haiti. Leaving Covid aside, Haiti is not the Bahamas. The native language is not English and the political situation there is volatile. I can totally see them assessing the situation and praying really hard about it and the decide not to travel there. Of course, your generous donations will be kept and passed on to some other organization already on the ground in Haiti that believes in the correct Jesus.
  3. So Jer has a Macbook and paper notes complete with fancy pen. I feel like he is slipping a bit. All the cool scholars I follow on Insta use a reMarkable. https://remarkable.com/
  4. I got the impression that TPTB wanted Ken and the guest hosts were filler while they ironed out the contracts behind the scenes. The guest hosts had to be a nightmare to schedule and prep while a pandemic is still raging. If they always knew it was going to be Mike, why go through all of that mess? I can't help but feel that Mike was the fallback option and not the first choice. I also don't think that Mike will be the permanent host for an extended period of time.
  5. I can honestly see him having a contest where the top prize is writing a book with him.
  6. The money K-Fed gets from Britney does have an expiration date. Their oldest turns 16 this year, so time's a ticking. I do feel bad for his other children though. It's not their fault their dad is a washed up dancer dependent on his child support from his ex-wife. Kevin should have pivoted to a steadier stream of income years ago.
  7. Fan fiction as we know it today originated with Star Trek. Slash as a code for same sex romantic or sexual pairings also comes out of the Kirk/Spock pairing.
  8. Well Joe Buck is currently trending on Twitter, so he's not going to get off easily. I just attempted to watch tonight's episode, and Joe was as bad as I expected. Joe does not have an inside voice.
  9. That 60 grand a month child support is on top of Britney paying for all of her boys' expenses--health insurance, tuition and fees, etc. Her eldest son turns 16 this year, so I assume she will also be paying for his car and insurance for that as well if she already is not.
  10. The epilogue in Devil in Disguise disappointed me.
  11. I agree. Also, on the first few seasons of a reality show the producers are willing to cast less polished individuals as contestants. I find it more interesting to see those personalities than the ones who come in later series who have watched every episode of previous seasons or who now fit the producers' ideal. I hate when it's obvious the producers are casting certain individuals in order to manufacture "good" television. Their idea of "good" television always revolves around conflict or outrageous behavior.
  12. I was too young for LA Law, so my first glimpse of Harry Hamlin was watching Clash of the Titans with my dad on a Sunday afternoon even if I was a mere babe when that film first premiered.
  13. Wearing sneakers with dresses is supposed to make the dress more casual. I do this with my Chuck Taylors and only those. It works with that type of sneaker or a pair of Vans or Keds. The type of sneaker with a small sole, not the ones Katey is wearing. Katey's shoes are giving me 80s sneakers flashbacks.
  14. I have never read The Road nor will I ever read it, but I have read another work by McCarthy. He definitely is in complete control of every detail including punctuation with his writing. He is a master crafsman. Everything he includes or excludes is intentional. I can admire the craft even if I will never read the book. I feel the same about Nabokov and Lolita. I will believe the writing is perfection, but writing is only part of what makes a novel great.
  15. I'm not surprised. The Goonies is a solid Gen X movie, and the Dillards are Millennials. It also did not do the cable channel rotations like The Princess Bride did.
  16. As much as I want to see Matt lose, i cannot watch Joe Buck host. I can barely stand him on Fox. I only watch him when my teams are playing. No way I'm watching him butcher Jeopardy.
  17. I went back and reread Tim's post and I can't shake the feeling that the only satisfactory answer Tim wanted from the airline was him getting to Houston. The refund was a bonus. I cannot imagine the representative at Hopkins did anything more than what customer service would have done on the phone. Best Mamma Ever expected Tim to be in Houston, so Tim went to the airport to make that happen. Now some of this is going to be due to Tim being in his early 20s and not having the life experience to know he was going to get the same result in person as over the phone. None of us knew this at his age. I'm sure he was a mess trying to figure out how to get his ass down to Texas before Jill has a meltdown. If he really was up for 18 hours before setting out on his roadtrip (I think Timmy is exaggerating here just like BME taught him), then that would also effect his critical thinking skills. Hindsight is 20/20, and maybe Tim will now know that he should have multitasked and called Spirit while en route to Texas. He would have still gotten his refund, and he would not have wasted so much time and money.
  18. Another parenting fail for Best Mamma Ever. I have zero plans to fly anytime soon, and I would never fly Spirit. But, I know that Spirit is having a week because I actually consume mainstream media and have a smartphone with a Twitter account. Tim needs to know what is going on in the world if he is to be a part of it no matter how small. And checking to see your flight is still happening the day of before leaving the house is taking a flight 101, especially when you have to drive out of your way to get to the airport.
  19. When I lived alone, I would cook the Stouffers lasagna. It's tasty and cheaper than making your own for one or two. I did make my own lasagna once, and quickly realized that it cost way more than 9 bucks. Homemade is only cheaper when you are making it for a group of, let's say, twenty.
  20. I'm guessing the reason why they cannot find a properly fitted bra is the same reason why the men all wear pants with the inseam 6 inches longer than necessary--they cannot allow someone get too close to measure. Yes, someone could point them to abrathatfits.org and the calculator there. All they need is a tape measure and can get the measurements themselves, but those require the young lady to be naked at the waist as she measures. Then there's the issue of the cheapness rampant in the fundie community. A properly fitted bra costs money and cannot be found at Walmart or Target. Unless the young lady in question has been blessed with a bra size that falls into the abysmal size range of most American manufacturers. I'm a 38G in American sizing and 38F in UK sizing, I cannot waltz into any store in my area and just pick up a bra. I have to order online. Good news is there are a lot of options available including Nordstrom and Amazon.
  21. I just did the same Google search, and the results are my kind of old-fashioned--bourbon (or rye), a dash of bitters, a drop of sweet vermouth, shaken and served with a maraschino cherry.
  22. The movie required an extra payment of $30 on top of the regular D+ subscription. Disney knows exactly how many people paid that. They can also figure out how many of those who paid the $30 were new subscribers or existing. Disney has always had a way to renegotiate Scarlett's contract especially since her contact apparently has a clause for it. What I read yesterday stated that her contract with Disney for BW had a clause stating theatrical release only and if Disney decided to change the release in any way the were supposed to renegotiate. Disney is also currently not paying out royalties to writers. This is an ongoing issue with the Mouse at the moment. https://bookriot.com/disney-must-pay-task-force/#:~:text=Now%2C Alan Dean Foster and,get paid for their work.
  23. I assume Amway is out due to men being involved in that particular MLM and it being a cult of its own. I don't consider Tupperware a MLM. My mom sold it for years, and she made money off of it. Unless the company has changed drastically in the last 25 years, it never was a MLM. Neither is Avon.
