  1. It really depends on the group. And if you are being "silenced" by a particular group, then it is a good idea to take a step back and evaluate. Not all groups are for everyone. It could be that your personal experience does not match that group's goals, and every time you open your mouth you are taking away time and resources from the group's stated goals.
  2. This will be a lightbulb moment for some of them. The rest will double down on the cognitive dissonance. Because let's be honest here, these are the same people who refuse to change child marriage laws. They have always been selective when it comes to what defines a child. Some teenaged girls get to remain girls until they turn 18 while others are deemed a woman when they start their period and grow breasts. It all depends on who their parents are and how much power they wield.
  3. Let's be honest here, Superman would be fighting MAGA just like he fought the KKK. MAGA is the embodiment of everything Superman has ever fought against.
  4. The hoops were actually bendy. They were made from natural materials like rope, flexible woods like willow, whalebone, and later steel wire; and the design incorporated thin layers of the stiffening material.
  5. If memory serves, Epstein's flight logs were released well before 2024, so there already is a "client list" that includes DJT and I believe Bill Clinton. This announcement from Trump's DoJ is exactly what it was always going to be, absolutely nothing. MAGA is upset that some low level employee did not make a list of all the names already available in the previously released records because they need to be spoon fed every single thing. I predict the same thing will happen whenever Trump gets around to declassifying the rest of those "secret" Kennedy files (has this already happened, I cannot remember because I really do not care). The conspiracy theorists are hoping for some "smoking gun" that has never existed.
  6. I have also practiced this rule. Babies love me because I am willing to ignore them while other adults act like fools to get their attention.
  7. There's actually a term for this--weaponized incompetence. I personally did not grow up in a household where this was deemed acceptable. Both of my parents had exacting standards in their domains, and the real reason why Dad was in charge of the outside work was because my mother hated it. He still did housework when it needed to be done, but he did it his way. If Mom went back and redid it, then that was her choice.
  8. If Democrats really could control the weather, then why would they send tropical storms to flood places like Asheville, NC and now Chapel Hill, NC? I really do want to ask those who believe like MTG on this because if Democrats could control the weather and flood waters they would not be directing it to flood out the Trader Joe's in Chapel Hill.
  9. Men are not pressured out of degrees in elementary education because people may assume they are predators. There are two main reasons why you do not see men working as kindergarten teachers--money, and the few men who do pursue the degree get fast-tracked into administration. Education has historically been a women-dominated field. This means consistently lower wages that can barely support one person let alone a family. (the collective) We could fix this if we were to raise boys and young men to be open to partnering up with a woman who makes more instead of raising them to think they had to be "providers". If you want your son to have male role models as teachers, then what are you doing to help raise wages for educators?
  10. I get that the Amazon algorithm only works when people rate and review the products they have purchased, but their reminder system needs a lot of work. I ordered something and got it on Saturday, and Amazon emailed me last night about rating it. I have not even used the item yet, all I can rate is the shipping and handling at this point. I need time to use the item before I can give an accurate rating. Though this may explain why so many items on Amazon have negative reviews about how an item was shipped.
  11. I love Sense and Sensibility for all of the sibling relationships, and can argue all day long about how that was what Austen was exploring in the book the marriage plots are secondary. Elinor and Marianne are perfect foils whose strengths and weaknesses balance each other. Both of them learn from each other through the course of the book/film though Marianne learns a lot more than Elinor. Then you have John Dashwood as one of the worst if not the worst brother in all of Austen. Dude's dad makes him promise on his deathbed to take care of his step-mother and 3 half-sisters and he allows his wife to talk him down from a set amount of money per year to the occasional side of beef.
  12. It could help the Dems if they were to actually do something. Because the " no tax" part is actually either a deduction or a tax credit, so people will not be seeing an immediate benefit. The other big unintended consequence of this will be people claiming their tips in ways they are not currently doing which will lead to them reporting more income to their state and local income tax authorities.
  13. It's also the most convoluted thing ever that will end up hurting those who get tips more than it will help. It is not a blanket "no tax on tips." It's not even a blanket "no tax on tips up to $25,000," but a series of conditions that must be met in order for the tipped worker to be able to take advantage of this. And I suspect the employer will have to do their part in filling out the necessary paperwork and do their reporting which will end up screwing over a bunch of people dumb enough to vote for this.
  14. It helps to remember that MAGA is not just disaffected poor or lower class whites. It also includes people making well above the average salary in any given area. MAGA has always included people who can afford boats, hundred thousand dollar pick up trucks, and private arsenals. This is the crowd that Trump is trying to fleece with his fragrances, sneakers, watches, crypto, etc.
  15. This is actually not his first foray into fragrance. Most likely, he is selling real perfumes and colognes on par with every other celebrity who slaps their name onto a fragrance. The cost is low to nonexistent for the celeb while the markup is high. There are companies out there who employ perfumers to create perfume formulas that just sit there until a celeb calls wanting a new revenue stream. Production on these can also be fast. It really depends on how much input the celeb wants.
  16. From what I have read, this is not necessarily anything new. Naturalized citizens who are convicted of federal crimes do face the risk of the revocation of their citizenship and deportation. There are some conditions they need to meet like committing said crimes before they officially became citizens. I was reading about a British man who became a citizen while serving in one of the branches of the US armed forces. He was caught with CSAM and had his citizenship revoked while he is in prison. The thought process seems to be, you lied on your forms therefore the US has the right to revoke your citizenship. Now I do not doubt for one second that Trump is planning on going much further than previous administrations. We've already seen with the various ICE raids that he will not be happy with just punishing criminals and will now begin looking for reasons to revoke citizenship. Trump and his people really do not care where these people end up, they just want to make the States whiter by any means necessary. And also keep this in his back pocket for when Elon finally goes too far.
  17. You can tell by the curl pattern. A modern day curling wand is tapered while the old school ones are the same diameter.
  18. I did watch all of the movie, but the timeline made zero sense, and the math was not mathing when we go to the present day and Vince Vaughan playing Joe. I could not buy him being the same age as both Joe Manganiello and Linda Cardellini.
  19. Yeah, that is not a Tuesday in LibraryLand. I do have to imagine in the John Wick Universe that the library knows who to contact to pay for the cleanup. The "other duties as assigned"** at the Continental Hotel is dispatching a crew to various locations to make the messes left by all the assassins go away. **it's a running joke in libraries. We are expected to be plumbers, HVAC technicians, social workers, etc. on top of our duties as a librarian. When libraries decided that libraries are for everyone we end up with everyone coming through our doors.
  20. Yeah, when my bougie grocery stores have a sale, they really do have a sale. Well except for Publix. I honestly do not get the love for Publix. They are expensive, their sales are mid at best, and they do not reduce their meats for quick sale. Their subs are good, but not as good as the Jersey Mikes I drive by getting to the store and cost just as much as JM.
  21. I see a lot of older people shopping at both Lidl and Aldi in my area. Both have good products available for less than the traditional grocery stores.
  22. Ricardo did not work for me as a working librarian. He's either employed by the Brooklyn Public Library or the New York Public Library. He's well-versed in how to handle patrons making death threats with or without weapons. I know TV and movies love to portray libraries as these safe, quiet places where nothing bad ever happens, but that is far from the truth. Libraries are places where all are welcome as long as they follow the rules including the unhoused, mentally ill, and those addicted to various substances. The only difference between that encounter in Ricardo's apartment with Katie and a Tuesday at the library was Richard being alone with her.
  23. I get it. The two things that always bother me in period dramas are the eyebrows, and using modern appliances to create the period hair. I remember the main female character in season one of Peaky Blinders had a long bob that was styled with a curling wand when the season was set somewhere between 1919-1923. It was so distracting, and in subsequent seasons the makeup and hair department actually did have the female characters in Marcel waves. I also want to take this space to grumble about the head makeup artist from the 2005 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. She's gone on record saying she didn't use any makeup on the female characters outside of some concealer for continuity which is a complete lie. All of them were wearing makeup that was a combination of 2005 products and period recreations. Those products she used a Regency era recipe to make are still makeup, why lie about it?
  24. I am envisioning something where the Girls are on full display. I can't decide on how full the skirt will be. I think it will either be a full princess skirt or something bodycon, maybe a mermaid silhouette. ETA--I can see something like this-- https://www.pninatornai.com/item-page/style-4724
  25. No, this whole wedding is a flex for Bezos (and also part of him and his fiancee subjecting the rest of the world to their kink). He has the money to hire advisors that could have found him an island somewhere that would have afforded privacy. There's also a pretty well known list of places fed up with American tourists with a populace ready to protest that includes Venice. Which should not really be a surprise since Europeans will protest just about anything and they have the time.
