  1. I could barely make it through. The plotlines were ludicrous. I liked some of the characters, but the suspension of disbelief required is above average for shows I watch. I don't plan to watch this again.
  2. Regarding the Deja as murderer theory, if This is Us has main characters murder or be murdered, it will be a jump the shark moment as far as I am concerned.
  3. Audio was snuggled up with Toby on the bed.
  4. I'm intrigued by Toby's depression, which appears severe in the flash-forward. This would indicate Kate becomes the caretaker, so it's a bit of a role reversal since Toby has been the one taking care of her since they got together (financially, emotionally, etc.). I am not a Kate fan but I feel for her marrying someone with an illness that she probably was not fully (if at all) aware of previously. Speaking from experience, loving someone with clinical depression can be extremely tough. I was just wondering what Wendie Malick was up to! I hope she is not going to be wasted in a single episode. She and Dan Lauria had a thing on Hot in Cleveland, so it was fun to see them "together." Hated the "KaToby" wedding theme. As a 48-y-o woman with a husband of the same age, IMO Randall definitely looked more than a decade older in the flash-forward. I, too, immediately thought they were referring to Beth, but also considered Deja in prison. I tend to doubt the latter possibility. I still love this show, but S2 was very uneven for me without all the magic of S1. I look forward to seeing what S3 brings.
  5. The only time I've ever seen or heard of a naked cake is on one of these baking shows. Are they actually a thing? I can't imagine any circumstances under which I would order a naked cake instead of a fully frosted one.
  6. I would rather have the 16-year-old boys lusting after 33-year-old Katy than 48-y-o J Lo any day! And I say that as a 48-y-o woman myself. That always seriously creeped me out.
  7. I didn't keep track. I just assumed the auditions were filmed over multiple days (and locations?) and so of course they changed clothes (unlike The Voice). This was a disappointing start to the Idol reboot for me. The judges didn't have good chemistry and they were greenlighting a lot of extremely average singers. They were also endless in their chit-chat with and critique of each singer and I was FF through most of that (we always start shows like this on a delay). I hope things improve as the season moves forward. Having watched the last two seasons of The Voice, I hate their format and would like to see Idol be successful again. I don't know where the 1's above came from but i cannot edit them out.
  8. Yes, I came to say something similar. Alex's cake tasted the best, Abby's decorating was the best, but Linsey attempted hard things and created a Food Network logo out of fondant, so she won despite not having the best cake or decorations...hmmm... Loved that Alex's immediate reaction was to say "Congratulations" to Linsey. I hope he gets his parade and his puppy.
  9. I wasn't excited about this based on the non-stop commercials, but I decided to give it a try since I like Mae Whitman. Wow, it was tough to get through. I liked all the women but not the storylines. As soon as I saw the tramp stamp I knew it was going to end up showing at the robbery. So very predictable. Don't want to see Matt Seracen as a bad guy. Re Sadie, I'm not clear on why she has not changed her name. I don't know a lot about these things, but we have friends with a transgendered child and he has changed his name to a more "male" version of his given name. I'm out.
  10. It was definitely a wig and it distracted me for their entire pitch. The Coin Out guy was a prick, and shouldn't have gotten a deal just because he is going to be impossible to work with. His idea is dumb, too, and I didn't hear any discussion of how it is going to make money for the investor.
  11. Maybe it's because it was late by the time we got this episode, but I really thought the kids had only persuaded them to go to assisted living -- not to sell the house. I still don't buy they would have agreed so easily to any of it -- regardless of the terrible manipulation by the kids.
  12. My husband and I just finished the season over the weekend. It really got to the point for me where I didn't want to watch any of the characters except Grace and Frankie. I am not interested in boring, no-chemistry-having Sol and Robert. It's a shame, because I always liked Martin Sheen before this role. It's hard to remember what Sam Waterston was like on Law & Order (which I guess is a testament to the actor...?). I don't enjoy any of the kids, particularly Brianna -- which is too bad since I liked her in S1. I don't understand why Barry would put up with her. With the episodes as short as they are, I don't know that I would FF the non-GraceandFrankie scenes, but it's tempting. The other stuff is just filler at this point and I'd prefer 30 full minutes of the ladies. The whole thing with the assisted living and the house was way beyond the pale. I hope they are setting G&F up for a much more empowered S5. My husband is also in the "Nick bought the house" camp, but I would rather that the ladies didn't need a man or one of their offspring to take care of them. I guess we'll wait a year to find out.
  13. I thought Rebecca's pledge to spend the rest of her days making sure Kate didn't feel as though Jack's death was her fault was interesting. Clearly that didn't work out so well. It's hard for me to relate teen Kate to adult Kate, any physical resemblance notwithstanding. She seems pretty strong as a teen, and incredibly weak as an adult. And her speech about Toby "saving" her still bugs. I would have preferred to see her on a journey to save herself.
  14. I was in high school a decade before the Big Three, and we didn't have a "Finals Week." "Finals" would have been at the end of the school year, anyway. Tests were not administered on a stand-alone basis when I was in school -- they were given as part of the regular school day. I have no idea whether that's changed since I'm child-free. I took Kate's comment about exams to mean she didn't have any tests that day, so she was only missing an "unimportant" school day. But yeah, she was definitely skipping school. It appeared Jack dropped her off at the record store and left her there, so I wondered how she was getting home or to school afterward. Pittsburgh in Jan/Feb 1998 was quite lovely with all those trees in full bloom! Love Dr. K. Poor Louie. How easily Kate can discard a dog she loved enough that Jack went after him in a blazing house.
  15. I rewatched the episode today. Some have mentioned that it was light outside during Kevin's visit to the tree and his call with Rebecca. Indeed it was, something I hadn't noticed upon first viewing. When he calls her, she is already watching the game, and the sun is still fairly high in the sky. The game started at 6:30 pm ET and sunset was around 5:15. Also, he makes it back in time to watch the rest of the game with her. This doesn't add up if the tree is in Pittsburgh and she is somewhere in NJ. I don't have any answers, just questions.
  16. Real-Life Nurses Reveal Exactly What Went Wrong in the Hospital on This Is Us
  17. I thought she was 30, but yeah -- she's several years younger than Jack. Kevin was shown riding in the back of a car, so he either hired a driver to take him to the tree, or to the airport. It was odd to me than none of the siblings seemed to call one another or their mom on Super Bowl Sunday (except Kevin calling Rebecca).
  18. If that's teen Sophie, then yes, she was briefly shown in the car with Kevin at the Lookout, or whatever it was called.
  19. My random thoughts about the episode, without having read through the entire thread: The dog would most definitely have been sleeping in Kate's room. And should have warned them about the fire. C'mon dog, you had ONE JOB. Stupid to rush around in a fire grabbing "stuff." It is impossible to believe that they would not have gone straight to the hospital, or that Jack would have been treated and released given that the doc then turned around and said that heart failure happens often with severe smoke inhalation. Pretty sure he would have been "kept overnight for observation." Jack dying after -- rather than in -- the fire seemed like a given based on statements made in interviews with the showrunners. I thought observing his death on SB Sunday -- instead of the actual date -- seemed odd until some of you explained it here. I also doubted Randall when he said Super Bowl Sunday was Jack's favorite day. Surely it would be the kids' birthday, which was also his own. Impressive that they included actual Super Bowl LII scenes. Thank God Kate finally expressed some appreciation to poor, put-upon, "IN the cloud" Toby -- but all I could think about was that she has spent 20 years wallowing in her grief and issues instead of confronting and dealing with them, and now Toby has stepped in to take Jack's place. So she is incapable of taking care of herself. Mandy Moore really brought it, even though she is supposed to be my age in the SB/fire scenes and looks at least a decade younger. Adult Tess/aged Randall was the best moment for me (especially since she wasn't working in a "fancy office" like Randall had mentioned in his conversation with young Tess). Close second was Beth's mention of "third person Randall." No tears from me, but I was struggling to stay awake for the episode. It was touching, but the only real surprise was the flash-forward. Lyric Ross in the opening credits spoiled Deja's reappearance.
  20. Maybe, though my first thought was that a social worker wouldn't be contacting a prospective foster family late on a Sunday night.
  21. Yep, this was so distracting! Chandra Wilson appears to be pretty short, so having a much taller actress playing teen Miranda was an odd choice. I really don't understand Ben. First he was an anaesthesiologist, then he wanted to be a surgeon, now suddenly he has decided to be a firefighter? I can relate to getting onto a career path that ultimately isn't a good fit, but this seems ridiculous. Just the financial implications alone are confusing, to say the least.
  22. IIRC Marsha Mason's character was in one or two episodes last season as well. I really thought Teddy was Victoria Principal until the credits rolled.
  23. I loathe the voice Lisa Kudrow adopted for Sheree. I can't figure out why she chose something so incredibly annoying. I also wonder whether they aged her for the role? She is only 54 but looked a decade older, at least.
  24. A Google search reveals that they're trying to market it as "fuel for dogs"...
  25. Bank of America has had a Keep the Change program for years in which your purchases are rounded up and the extra money goes into a savings account. This was basically taking that model and directing the funds elsewhere. I am a very devoted dog mom and I wouldn't buy Petrol for my dog. He is happy with plain water, which is also free. He gets his nutrients from his food. The woman was SUPER annoying and their business was a hot mess. Fresh meals sold in food deserts would need to be priced at $1-2 to compete with fast food. The mission is great but their prices are probably going to need tweaking. I was surprised there was no discussion of how they planned to scale the business nationally. I thought it was unfair that they were accused of not being entrepreneurs.
