  1. For me, the question is more like "how did Monica Potter get cast?" The woodenness is all her.
  2. For that matter, why didn't Toby leave with Kate? It made no sense for them to drive separately to the Manny taping or to her gig.
  3. I really don't care whether it is filmed in front of a live audience or it is a laugh track. I would prefer not to hear it. I honestly don't care enough to research which the show is using but thanks for the lecture.
  4. Also in my 40s and thought this was really bad. I didn't know about it until I saw a commercial and I tuned in for Linda Lavin. Yikes. The laugh track was terrible. And we also loved Albert Tsai on the very funny Trophy Wife but he's no longer a cute little kid. This was as unfortunate as the show's title.
  5. You know, you're right. Have we ever seen Kate have a happy moment? Maybe when Toby "proposed?" She is written and portrayed as downright unlikeable because, as you said, she is such a sourpuss. I'm no fan of Toby, but I really have to wonder what he sees in her. We know it isn't her sparkling personality.
  6. In the S1 finale, when Jack is fixing the neighbor's car, she asks him how he came back from the war so nice. That was definitely Jack in the flashback. In terms of someone's timeline question way upthread, I think he came back fairly soon before meeting Rebecca, since he is shown in that same episode to be living with his parents and having trouble finding work after his return. I, too, am not blown away yet this season, but I have faith that this is all leading somewhere. However, my measure of the episodes is not whether they made me cry -- and I don't like that that seems to have become one of the goals of the show (at least, the goal of their social media presence). I agree that it is impossible to be on Team Kate. I keep waiting for her to be redeemed, but so far they don't seem to be going in that direction. In the S1 finale, she is shown gazing at a photo of Rebecca singing and declaring that's what she wants to do. So for someone so inspired by her mother, she sure does have a hard time dealing with their relationship.
  7. This show really is boring. I will finish the season but that's it. Pretty people in a beautiful setting with no actual problems. I'm not a parent, but 10 seems awfully old for a princess party. I have an 8-year-old niece who never got into the princess thing, but I'm pretty sure she would roll her eyes hard if a friend had this theme party. Also, the party was totally ostentatious and completely over-the-top. IRL, other parents would not be complimenting Abby - they would be snarking behind her back while trying to figure out how to one-up the party for their own kid's birthday. At least, that's what I've heard.
  8. This was a giant waste and I can't figure out why Dave Holloway et al agreed to have this filmed for TV, unless Oxygen paid for much of what they were doing. It really made no sense to me at all. No progress was made in the case. I heard almost nothing about Dave Holloway or his involvement in the case before this show. It was always Beth who was out there pushing.
  9. I could hardly watch this episode because it was alternately ridiculous and infuriating. Other than Scott's sister and SIL, the "SPA Team" just seems like a bunch of women with no lives who have devoted themselves to proving the innocence of a complete stranger. Did I misunderstand, or would this show have me believe that it's possible that some burglars (or some gang of killers) kidnapped Laci, held her for 10 days, then killed her and dumped her body in the bay on or after January 3?? This show should not have been called "The Murder of Laci Peterson." It should have been "The Wrongful Conviction of Scott Peterson" or something along those lines. The show was all about Scott, not Laci.
  10. pennben, thanks for that link. It'll be interesting to see what happens, but I htink the chances of a new trial are slim. I've always been curious why someone would go fishing if the weather weren't favorable for golfing?
  11. Funny enough, I've heard it said by deterctives and prosecutors that the popularity of procedurals like CSI have misled the public to believe that there must be an abundance of physical evidence to prove guilt in a crime, when in reality, most cases are largely circumstantial. In this case, it's simply impossible to ignore the vast wealth of circumstantial evidence.
  12. Is this one of the "chat room commenter" sites? It states that Scott Peterson was "wrongly convicted."
  13. That one reporter with the gray hair seems wedded to this theory. It's absurd. So at the end of the ABC show they revealed the "new evidence" which is that Strawberry Shortcake failed to disclose that she'd had to get a restraining order against someone when she was pregnant. So...apparently Scott is asking for a new trial based on this. Good luck with that. I hate that the A&E show features "chat room commentators" giving their two cents -- it really compromises what credibility the show does have. Not that all the media are so credible, either. Gloria Gomez salivating over her recollection of the finding of the bodies was unconscionable. Anyway, hard to believe the same network that airs Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath is responsible for this turd.
  14. I agree with you about a family dinner for a first date being ludicrous...however, this is Hallmark where couples fall in love after one date. I think one of the things bothering Trace was that the bass player (John?) was helping himself to beer from the taps earlier in the episode as well as serving all his buddies later on when they were playing. Also, weren't they still waiting on a live music permit, whatever that is? I don't know, it just seemed like the guy was acting like it was his club. Trace's outrage was far less misplaced than Abby's. She really has nothing to be upset about and turning her into a jealous girlfriend is snooze-worthy.
  15. I got the impression from last night's episode that none of the so-called witnesses who claimed to have seen Laci walking the dog actually knew Laci -- they just had seen a woman walking a dog that morning and decided it must have been her. BTW, ABC is doing a two-hour show tomorrow night: Truth & Lies: Laci Peterson.
  16. Well, they said they met in college and had been married 18 years. I assume all the kids are theirs. As soon as she came out in her romper I was all "oh honey, no" and her voice drove me crazy. She didn't seem like a bad person, she just annoyed me. Her husband said she was the hottest girl in college and you can tell she still works that for all it's worth.
  17. I've recently discovered Beachfront Bargain Hunt and the Renovation edition. This week a father and daughter were looking for a place in Honduras and I had the opportunity to explain to my husband what "resting bitchface" is. As an aside, you can get some great places in Honduras for very little money! On the Renovation edition, we saw what may have been a repeat episode over the weekend, when a Dallas couple with 4 kids was looking for a place in South Padre Island. I was embarassed for the wife/mom, who is at least 40 but still shopping in the Juniors dept and putting pink streaks in her hair. I hated both the indoor slide and the pool slide they installed. But most importantly, I kept yeling at the TV when the show tried to have us believe that a full gut job and complete reno, including adding a 3rd floor (I'm sure the neighbors behind them who lost their ocean view just loved that) plus outdoor hardscaping and landscaping, cost a mere $85,000. Not a chance and we called BS. Come on, HGTV.
  18. Strawberry Shortcake looks so different now. I find it hard to believe that 8-months pregnant Laci would have confronted a neighborhood burglar, or that said burglar would have killed a pregnant woman, dismembered her, driven the body to the SF Bay, weighed it down and dumped it -- without a trace -- in the same spot where Scott went "fishing" on the same day. I do wonder why A&E chose to air a series so sympathetic to Scott.
  19. My guide is showing the Miscavige episode airing next week!
  20. Calling him Pinstripe seems to me like a blatant ripoff of "Big" from SATC. Mileage varies...I don't think she's at all pretty. But yeah, her character is wholly unrealistic and the thought that she would run off with Adena was so effing stupid. She sure did make the leap from avowed heterosexual to sexytimes with Adena with barely the blink of an eye. I find her character silly, self-absorbed, and unlikeable. I can tell we are supposed to think she is a badass, but it's not working. Anyone else annoyed by the random British accented voice that narrates the scenes from the previous week?
  21. My understanding is that the judge did not yet accept the plea as she wants to wait for the results of the competency hearing (which did not seem to be underway as of yet in this ep). Pullman's character is the one who asked the judge for this respite, because he wants to investigate further. So she has not yet been convicted of any crime, much less sentenced.
  22. I can't imagine, though, how years of experience in the Sea Org looks on a resume -- at least to an employer with no ties to Scientology.
  23. That struck me, too. In general, the S2 interviews seem to strike a different tone than those in S1. In S1 I felt it was more of a look behind the curtain in terms of what really goes in in Scientology. It was very informative in terms of giving a real look behind the scenes. Somehow this season feels different, as though there is less direct information about Scientology and its impact, and more vague connections between CO$ and the difficulties endured by the interview subjects. Also the way each interview seems to have been filmed twice (once with Leah and Mike, and once without) and edited together is very distracting to me and seems unnecessary. Have we figured out yet whether the beautiful homes where each interview subject seems to reside (Liz Gale excepted) is where they somehow have managed to end up living, or if these are just staged for the interviews?
  24. I sort of thought the same, though I believe his suicide was in 1998, before the advent of texting.
  25. Is Megan Ory (Abby) expecting? Her face is much fuller and her wardrobe looser than in S1, and she's doing that thing with big folders and other strategically placed props.
