  1. I've always had AC and ceiling fans. Can't live without either. And I also got on FB around August 2008 at the ripe old age of 38.
  2. Which is why the line was so silly, being uttered in 1990 (?). The costumes were a strange choice for that point in time, but maybe Rebecca was feeling nostalgic.
  3. Best line of the night: "What's Cher without Sonny?"
  4. No surprise, I thought it was evident when the season finale was so ridiculous...they went out in a blaze of glory!
  5. Seriously, I busted out laughing so loudly (watching on DVR early this morning) that I thought I would wake up my husband. Fully agree. I'm perplexed by his casting if he is supposed to be this great-looking guy. He doesn't have much to do.
  6. From the EW article about the episode, an interview with This Is Us executive producers (and directors of this episode) John Requa and Glenn Ficarra: Can you imagine if that scene had been a half hour long?! I wish Fogelman had at least allowed the scene of the person running away from Toby. That would have made it mildly more realistic. I think Fogelman doesn't want to do anything that implies that Toby isn't the dashing leading man that he wants him to be. I wish I could find the previous interview where the showrunners claimed Toby is this amazing romantic figure out of a rom-com.
  7. For clarification, are you saying that it's acceptable for one group member to personally, vehemently attack another? I ask out of genuine interest because I have never heard of this before. Ever.
  8. He's definitely cartoonish and sometimes I think he's there for comic relief (I personally do not find him funny, or charming). I do have to say I don't understand what he sees in Kate. She isn't shown making any contributions to the relationship. She seems to do a lot of taking and make plenty of demands. I sorta feel like all the characters are more unlikeable this season.
  9. Kate really has become downright unlikeable. She was a real asshole to Madison in the meeting and her behavior is totally unacceptable for any 12-step group or support groups of any kind. The leader of that group should have stepped in (or other members should have said something). It's called a support group for a reason. Kate is so resentful of thin, pretty women that she acts horribly toward them. You can never know what pain someone else is going through just by looking at them. I have come to dislike adult Kate immensely and don't care about her pregnancy. Toby is a tool and the scene at the coffee shop was ridiculous. Randall is so awkward with Deja, and while I feel like that's to be expected, I also feel very little connectivity between the Randall of S1 and the Randall of S2. It's almost like he's a different character. I don't care for this arc at all. And I can't understand why he would smack Deja's hand instead of using his words to advise her not to eat the shrimp tail. WTF? That felt unnatural and convoluted as a plot device to get them to the ladies' room scene, which I also didn't care for. I'm not sure Deja would have confided in Randall at that point. I enjoyed her crush on Kevin, though. Young Randall's notes to himself about engaging with Kevin were heartbreaking. "When Kevin thinks you're being annoying, try talking about Karate Kid." "Don't ask to use Kevin's Gameboy." Poor, sweet Randall. I was glad that Young Kevin had enough heart to understand those notes and to try harder with Randall. It's nice to see them together as adults even if they don't seem to have that same connection as in S1. As for Kevin, with all the celebrity ODs where multiple docs were filling prescriptions for them, I didn't think it'd be this tough for him to get more Vicodin. Why didn't he stock up before he left LA? All he had to do was go see more than one doctor. I suppose now he will turn to street drugs when alcohol isn't cutting it for self-medication. I don't like this storyline, either. I didn't care about Jack's father dying. Jack's brother is an interesting twist. I'm pretty sure my dad told me that when he went for his physical to join the Marines, he memorized a few lines of the eye chart when he was waiting in the exam room, so he got around the whole glasses/eyesight thing. Bottom line is I don't feel engaged by the (disjointed, IMO) S2 storylines as I did in S1, which is incredibly disappointing.
  10. I have to say that "Jesse Tyler Ferguson" (there was no "Holy") made me laugh, because in the original series, Jack was known for using three-named women as exclamations. "Sarah Jessica Parker!" "Jennifer Love Hewitt!" etc. So it was a fun callback.
  11. My on-screen guide episode description for next week says, in part, "Kate surprises Toby at work." So maybe his profession will be revealed!
  12. His initial reaction as shown in the preview didn't seem very enthusiastic -- but I'm sure he'll get over it moments later and be even more solicitous and viligant about Kate's health.
  13. Don't you mean "Tobe?" (cringe)
  14. I wish I could remember where I saw the Dan Fogelmann interview where he said Toby is like this dream guy that every woman wants...or something along those lines. Apparently he thinks he has created quite the amazing boyfriend/fiance in Toby. This was maybe in one of the EW interviews in the past couple of weeks. Do people apart from this forum love Toby?
  15. That will forever be my favorite role she has played. She stole scenes in that movie.
  16. Good point. That video was probably made close to Jack's death, since Jack created it to show colleges and that was shortly before Kevin was injured. We see him wearing the cast when Jack died. I'm sure it has sentimental value to him...maybe when he packed a bag he threw it in there? Fanwanking...
  17. As far as I can tell, Toby and Kate are both unemployed. After she bailed on Jami Gertz, we never heard anything again about her employment. Some posters have suggested she may be working for Kevin again, but that hasn't been shown or mentioned. I don't recall any mentions of Toby's employment status ever. Apparently he can cover the expenses associated with a heart attack. (Side note: I don't think anything was ever mentioned about Toby and Kate living together. They just seemed to be doing so at the start of this season). I think Randall and Beth probably have plenty of money in the bank, and her paycheck probably can cover the day-to-day. But yes, she always seems to be home. Like you, it's something I notice but realize is the nature of TV. After all, on Friends Monica was supposed to be a chef at a high-end restaurant, but she always seemed to have plenty of time to hang around her apartment or Central Perk on evenings and weekends.
  18. This feels like the same recycled storylines season after season. Who owns the Marbella? Rose is evil and has converted Luisa to the dark side. Will they or won't they (Petra, Raf, Jane)? Rogelio lacks self-control. Zzzzz. Time for some new material.
  19. He's looked weird in all three eps to me. As though he's had work done, plus wearing makeup.
  20. She was referred to as a Congresswoman in the pilot.
  21. I don't understand how Jess can successfully run a B&B when she's always at her grandmother's house for breakfast. Understanding she doesn't do the cooking, she would still need to do the hosting. I'm out. This is too saccharine even by Hallmark standards.
  22. Vanity Fair had an interesting take on this. https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2017/10/this-is-us-recap-sylvester-stallone-season-2-episode-3-deja-vu?mbid=social_facebook
  23. I'm wondering also if he may have had an argument with Jack before he died, and carries guilt from his last words to Jack being angry ones.
  24. I like Kate so much better when Toby isn't around. He really brings out the worst in her.
  25. This is funny because I'm primarily watching for Piven and cringe every time Potter is on screen! I absolutely loathed her on Parenthood.
