  1. The bear continues to be exploited 😆
  2. The Mulan trailer is a dismal sign Disney is bowing to China's nationalistic agenda I thought this was an interesting response to the changes made for the live action version.
  3. I remember watching that show. Although the big thing I remember was how I found it really uneven. Some episodes were hilarious, but others weren't funny at all. There were only 6 episodes, so it didn't get much time to prove itself ☹️ Another surprisingly good show canceled after only 1 season was Huge, about campers and staff at a weight-loss camp.
  4. No. And I don't think Jonathan really interacted with Joyce either during this episode, which was odd. Erica was delightful in small doses last season, but they used her so much here that she got irritating. She earned some points back, though, when she cut off Dustin's lovey-dovey exchange with Suzie. And I enjoyed the Neverending Story duet, but thought it went on too long and killed some of the momentum. It might've been worth it to see Hopper's reaction, though. I liked Robin, but I think that by adding her and spending more time on Erica, they didn't give some of the returning characters enough to do. I particularly wanted to see more with Will since I thought his story this season started out so interesting, only for him to spend episode 4(?) on mostly just serving as an early warning system for the Mind Flayer.
  5. Those are great questions. I listened to an interview with Aster, but unfortunately that didn't come up. I was frustrated by how the newcomers were behaving at many points, but I did like that at least the London couple reacted in a way I think most people would during the cliff ritual, not that it saved them but at least they didn't just brush it off like most of the American group did. They were also the only ones to notice and ask about the poor bear.
  6. It doesn't look like this will do as well as Ari Aster's last film Hereditary, especially since it's almost 2.5 hrs long, but I'm guessing it'll be just as--if not more--divisive. I saw it last night and am still not sure if I liked it. Florence Pugh was fantastic, though, and I laughed more at this movie than I have at most comedies. There were a few moments of graphic violence, but strangely enough I was most bothered by one of the flowers in Dani's May Queen crown opening and closing like it was breathing or blinking. Ugh, that made me so uneasy for some reason.
  7. I had read about New Coke coming up in the show in some way, but that bit went on way too long especially given the situation they were in. I get that Netflix wants ad money without ad interruptions, but that was really awkward.
  8. Huh, when I started the episode it was titled "The Birthday" but now it's showing as "E Pluribus Unum." Given what happens at the end, I prefer the former. I was holding out hope that there was a way to save the possessed, especially since it seemed like Billy was still in there somewhere and even looked to be in some anguish when he was threatening Eleven. I don't buy that Hopper would be content to wait for help after making the call to Owens. I'm surprised his first move wasn't to track down Eleven when Alexei mentioned the doorway.
  9. Poor Hopper. That looked brutal. And poor Mrs. Driscoll. I liked her and was hoping against the odds that she'd make it, but maybe she can still be saved. Poor Will, too, but I was happy to see Mike and Lucas go after him and that Will told them right away about the Mind Flayer being back. Max is really good at improvising. She and Eleven make a good team. Steve was being weird during their Russian surveillance operation. He seemed more irritated than interested. He was enthusiastic about solving the mystery before, but maybe he's starting to hit the limit of how much craziness he can tolerate.
  10. The science teacher playing My Bologna when Joyce showed up was a fun nod to one of the most memorable moments in Reality Bites when Winona and friends dance to My Sharona. Mr. Clarke is great and I hope he plays a bigger role this season. I really like Sadie Sink and her friendship with Eleven but that scene of her skateboarding wasn't convincing.
  11. I was curious about this show, but the trailer's not selling me on it.
  12. I'm not sure about Daniel Craig's accent based on what we heard of it in the trailer, but am really looking forward to seeing Chris Evans in a role so far removed from Captain America. It looks like he's thoroughly relishing taking on a dickish character after playing a hero for so long.
  13. In theaters November 27, 2019. Stars Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Ana De Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, Don Johnson, Michael Shannon, LaKeith Stanfield, Katherine Langford, Noah Segan, Edi Patterson, Riki Lindhome, Jaeden Martell, and Christopher Plummer. I can't wait! ETA: The release date didn't register when I first posted this, so it might be too early to start a topic for a movie that doesn't come out until November, but oh well.
  14. I hadn't read a lot about this one so my expectations were low, but I really enjoyed it. It's too bad it didn't do better at the box office. The original's on Netflix and is about 20 minutes longer. I'm curious to see how it's different.
  15. It's so frustrating when British series get cut for time when shown in the US. I was disappointed to find out that PBS edits Unforgotten and Endeavour, but even shows streaming on Hulu like New Tricks and Silent Witness seem to have a good chunk of time cut out. On a more positive note, I saw some ads for the recent BBC comedy Ghosts and I really hope that becomes available here soon. It has many of the same actors from Yonderland and Horrible Histories and looks like a lot of fun. And I was surprised to learn that another attempt at an American remake of Peep Show is in the works, but with 2 female leads. That's one of my all-time favorite comedies, so I'm not excited by the news but can't help feeling mildly curious about it.
  16. My streaming subscription expired so I can't go back to check, but I think Vera had messed up her clothes somehow, went into a shop to get some new ones, and then was pleased that the replacements fit her style well enough that Aiden didn't notice the difference. Maybe the card was her removing a tag of some sort? That's from my dim memory of the scene, though, so I could be completely off.
  17. ABC Eyeing Weekly Grey's/Station 19 Crossovers — Here's Why That's a Terrible, No Good, Very Bad Idea I hadn't realized this was being discussed, but I really hope they don't go ahead with it. I'm struggling to care about what happens on Grey's Anatomy as it is without a bunch of random characters from another show popping in regularly to insert their own drama.
  18. On the casting front, whoever's responsible did an excellent job. Not only is the acting impressive all around, but I initially thought that old Ulrich was the adult actor with old age makeup.
  19. I'm having trouble deciding who has it worst since there are even more characters having a terrible time this season. Claudia's poor secretary (and maybe the French delegation) should definitely be in the running. Seriously, though, there were so many heartbreaking moments. Egon became one of my favorite characters and his fate was tough to watch.
  20. Some I don't think have been mentioned yet: People of Earth: 2-season sci-fi sitcom that ended on a cliffhanger. Wyatt Cenac leaving the show was probably a factor in its cancellation, but the writers had a 3rd season mapped out and were initially given the go-ahead before TBS reversed the renewal. Suburgatory: This sitcom did get 3 seasons, but should have run longer. I needed more Yakult! Siberia: Filmed like a reality tv show that followed a group of contestants in Tunguska, this started a little weak but grew more compelling as spooky stuff started happening and the characters got fleshed out. Murder Rooms: Mysteries of the Real Sherlock Holmes: This one still upsets me. The last episode suggested more to come, but it never happened. ETA Babylon: I can't believe I forgot this one. It got some buzz when it first started in part because Danny Boyle was involved, but never got the attention I thought it deserved. More shows gone too soon: EZ Streets, Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, LA to Vegas, Other Space, and Andy Barker, PI.
  21. One of the few constants on this show is Hannah's awfulness. There was so much going on that I'll have to watch it again at a slower pace to make sure I understand what's happening and who's who. But I was happy to see from one of the creators that season 3 should be coming out some time in 2020.
  22. I wasn't planning on seeing this in theaters, but it's been getting good reviews from sites like The Guardian and Birth.Movies.Death that tend to be pretty critical.
  23. A lot of my favorites have already been mentioned, so I'll go with the bathroom fight in Mission: Impossible - Fallout. It's inventive, well-executed, and I love that Cruise and Cavill have to take some time to recover and then are only saved when Rebecca Ferguson intervenes.
  24. Reese Witherspoon's renewed success is especially impressive because that drunk driving, "Do you know who I am?" incident could've seriously derailed her career. She and her PR team handled that so well that I think most people have forgotten about it entirely.
