  1. Have you given up on Death in Her Hands? This is my first time reading one of her books and I'm struggling with it a bit.
  2. I'm in the middle of Devolution by Max Brooks. I wasn't that interested in the book based on the plot (a high-tech ecovillage is cut off after Mount Rainier erupts and is then menaced by Bigfoot), but it's pretty engaging so far. It helps that I'm listening to the audiobook version, which features Judy Greer as the main narrator and Nathan Fillion, Steven Weber, Kate Mulgrew, and Jeff Daniels in smaller roles (plus bonus appearances by Terry Gross and Kai Ryssdal). I've listened to a lot of audiobooks in the past year and have a new appreciation for how a well-produced one can really enhance the experience.
  3. Did I miss something, or did we not see Morrissey again when he ran away from the ice cafe after they found Ova's body? I was expecting him to somehow pop back up in Lassiter's room to help with the takedown of Sarah Chalke's character, or at least irritate Lassiter by getting there too late.
  4. I signed up for Peacock today and was surprised and happy to find that all 12 seasons of the show are available! The free version includes some ads and the service has some issues (it's not available via Roku or Amazon Fire), but I'm just glad to have access to all the episodes.
  5. I don't think anyone's mentioned it in the Vera topic, but I wonder if PBS cuts scenes from episodes like they have with Endeavour. That's also incredibly frustrating, especially when it's on streaming where they're not limited by time slots. New Tricks and Silent Witness on Hulu have had scenes cut that make the episodes seem choppy and the story lines harder to follow.
  6. In the US at least, I believe Acorn has seasons 1, 2, 6, and 7 while Britbox has the rest through season 10. It's really frustrating that the show has been split between the two services.
  7. I'm not on Twitter, but was reading an article today on 'cancel culture' that mentioned Laurence Fox, checked his feed, and wow does he seem awful. Hathaway was my favorite character on the show and I had also been wondering about a spinoff featuring him, but I think I'm good.
  8. Has Forbrydelsen ever been available to stream in the US? I kept an eye out for it, but I don't remember it showing up anywhere. I wanted to do a rewatch of Bron/Broen just last week, then was disappointed to find that it's no longer available on Hulu. It's definitely worth tracking down, but unfortunately I don't see it anywhere now except to buy.
  9. There are probably some unanswered questions that my brain is too scrambled to remember after marathoning the whole season in a day, but I'm happy with the ending and will really miss this show.
  10. Oof, episode 3.05 is brutal. My hate for Hannah continues unabated.
  11. I thought about creating a separate thread for it, but then realized most of what I want to say comes down to "WTF was that?"
  12. How about Colin Dexter's Morse books, or the various Ann Cleeves series? I tried Cleeves after I became a fan of the tv shows Vera and Shetland. I've only read 2 of Cleeves's books so far (both in the Shetland series), and was really impressed. I've made reading the rest of the series a priority. I've also heard really good things about Nicci French's Freida Klein series, but haven't read them yet myself. The main character is a psychotherapist who works with the police and I believe there are 8 books in the series.
  13. I'm not sure if this really belongs here, but I watched 365 Days on Netflix last night and it was...something. I wasn't surprised when I found out that it was inspired by Fifty Shades of Gray. Whatever the movie's faults (and there are a whole bunch), at least the leads and locations are beautiful.
  14. I remember hearing that there is a plan and that the current season is the final one. I'm way behind so haven't checked in lately, but the subreddit is pretty active so you may get more definitive answers there: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheMagnusArchives/
  15. According to Decider, all episodes will be available on June 25.
  16. Yeah, but judging by the lack of buzz about it, lidarose9's review, and the episode summaries on Wikipedia, I'm not sure it's worth watching. It's a shame considering its strong start and impressive cast.
  17. I started watching it, but gave up relatively early. I'm afraid I can't remember why so my answer isn't terribly useful. I like Branagh, but his Wallander was too angsty for me. I much preferred the Swedish version with Krister Henriksson.
  18. That sounds like The House Next Door by Anne Rivers Siddons.
  19. I love Black Spot and am disappointed there hasn't been any word on a third season, especially since season 2 ended on a cliffhanger.
  20. I still laugh about the scene with John, Aeryn, and Zhaan in a room of the spaceship discussing something when John gets frustrated and says he needs to leave to get some air and Aeryn in confusion and annoyance responds, "We have air in here!" My UO is that I've found Amy Sedaris irritating in everything I've seen her in. To be fair, that only includes guest spots on The Closer, Monk, and The Mandalorian. I know she's an internet fave, but there's just something about her that I find grating.
  21. If you were able to watch it, what did you think? Next weekend will be devoted to Dark season 3, so I'm looking for something to watch in the meantime.
  22. Palm Springs is the first movie I've been excited about in a long time. A time loop romcom with Andy Samberg, Cristin Milioti, and JK Simmons is just what I need right now.
  23. The show does ask a lot of its viewers. I never got to the point where I was taking notes, but I did have to consult Wikipedia and Reddit a bunch of times to figure out who was who and what was happening when. I liked season 2, but not as much as season 1. I really hope they nail the final season.
  24. It's comedy in the vein of Airplane and Angie Tribeca. I enjoy that kind of silliness sometimes, but can see how it wouldn't work for others. I haven't seen Dead Still yet, but judging by the lack of discussion about it, am guessing it's not great. Has anyone watched Freud on Netflix? I stumbled across the trailer last week, but haven't heard anyone talking about it. It looks stylish, but I didn't get much from it beyond that.
  25. I can't believe it's only a few more weeks until the final season! 🙌 Is anyone else rewatching seasons 1 and 2 in the meantime? That was my plan, but I might wait and binge them a day or two beforehand because I'm not sure I have the brainpower to hold onto all the details if I start any earlier.
