  1. I agree with you completely regarding Into the Wild. I just can’t see the hero in McCandless. He died because he made a lot of stupid decisions. Why people find this admirable is beyond my comprehension.
  2. I have been thinking of making up and freezing some cookie dough to bake later. I use cookie scoops and freeze the dough balls on a cookie sheet then into Tupperware when frozen solid. I want to do snickerdoodles, but can’t decide whether to roll in cinnamon & sugar before freezing or wait until I am going to bake them. Do you think the c&s would freeze alright or would it absorb moisture and go weird?
  3. I have seen both of those at my local Blain’s Farm & Fleet and at Menards (upper Midwest DIY store chain). I feel like I have seen them elsewhere, at an “odd” store, maybe Tractor Supply Company or Joann Fabric/Michaels type store.
  4. To this very day, the thought of that scene gives me the shivers. When I saw it back in the day, it was the scariest thing I had ever seen on tv. Why the hell a coward like me watched a Steven King miniseries about vampires is beyond my comprehension.
  5. I did watch one episode, because my cat was laying on the remote, and you are not making a mistake by avoiding it. I thought the show was horrible, the lead character utterly unlikeable and am shocked that it is still on the air.
  6. Isn’t handsomeness entirely subjective? I always yell at the TV commercial where some guy is referred to as “objectively hot”.
  7. I know nothing about lace, but would you really haul it around on an unprotected hanger? I would think wrapping it with tissue and placing it in a box would be better. It would be protected from snags, dust and spills. I guess I could get behind hanging it up upon arrival at your destination, if you were going to use it there. I thought the school in Athens was supposed to be for students in grades 7-12? Leo certainly didn’t look that old to me, maybe 10ish? Perhaps I zoned out, but did we not get a solution to Victor Webster’s character wanting to cook more? Autumn’s character showing up from Italy for what seemed like a day and a half I can buy, but Lacey coming all the way from the U.S. made no sense. And I swear, despite having a suitcase, she wore the same green dress in every scene.
  8. I watched an episode of The Andy Griffith Show the other night where one of Opie’s friends was staring at Barney’s gun. Barney told him that the first rule of handling a gun was that you never, ever point a gun at something unless you intend to shoot it. That show was filmed in the early 1960’s.
  9. Becky, you can buy something called “a lock” for your door. Might want to look in to it. Get Daddy to install it for you.
  10. I don’t understand why it is necessary for any type of round to be in a real gun on a tv/movie set. Why not just use a fake gun and edit in the sound of it being fired? I can understand real guns being necessary back in the day, maybe up until the ‘80’s, but if they can make a fake S.S. Titanic and have entire fake worlds full of blue people, I simply cannot believe that the movie industry is incapable of making realistic looking weapons that are unable to be loaded with any kind of projectile. Carve them out of wood, cast them out of solid metal; just make them without any place to load a round.
  11. I hope Malcolm and Marty took the smoker. What happened to the plot line of Marty and his fiancé buying a house? Or did I imagine it? Grover needs a haircut.
  12. And the part where (the recreation of going to a game) “can be got for very little cost.”
  13. I am fairly certain that with the first hint of possibly being taken hostage, I will simultaneously faint, puke and wet myself and maybe have a heart attack, as well. So, I am not worried about it because it is a foregone conclusion. In short, I am not foxhole material.
  14. Thank you! I was able to get the Jeffrey Allen series from my library’s Libby and Hoopla had the Gourmet Detective series. That should keep me busy for a while.
  15. Are there any modern (set in the current day-ish) cozy mysteries with a male protagonist?
  16. I read this. It was fascinating, if a bit long.
  17. I don’t really care that I have never heard of these “celebrities”, but why do they cast people who claim not to bake? Surely there are more than a few social media “stars” and c-list actors who love to bake and would relish the chance to show off their skills. I know we are not going to see George Clooney making babka or Serena Williams whipping up a puff pastry, but surely their must be a few Hallmark movie actors who like to decompress by making sourdough and a number of retired athletes who think they make awesome carrot cakes.
  18. Several years ago I slipped on a patch of ice in my driveway. I didn’t need an ambulance, just someone to haul my ass up off the pavement. So the city EMTs showed up - in a fire truck with lights and sirens. A few weeks later I started getting calls from some “support the firemen” charity. Coincidence? I think not.
  19. Well, not stupid. Just wrong.
  20. I was hoping the orange cat would be on Calvin’s desk when he opened his office door.
  21. I would not recommend the Zojirushi simply on the basis of price. If you already have a bread machine that you use often and are looking for an upgrade the Z would (possibly) make sense. But not as a gift, IMO. I went the thrift store route with my bread machine, which looked to have been barely used, and I paid $6 for it. Which probably amounts to about $0.50 per use. Or a dollar a year.
  22. The part of Three Wise Men … that bothered me was taking the kid to the hospital. First, do they ever take an infant in to an exam room without the adult that brought them? And more egregiously, how the hell did they answer the admissions questions - “full name?” “Thomas something”. “date of birth?” “No idea”, “Insurance?” “Don’t know”. “Any allergies or medical issues” “Not a clue”. And the hospital didn’t call CPS? No freaking way. There must have been a better way for the guys to end up watching a baby. A friend or spouse of friend runs in to the fire station and shoves baby carrier at Luke(?) and as he/she is running out yells over their shoulder that they have to leave due to an emergency (Grandpa tripped over a candy cane and needs help running the candy factory and no one else can help) and spouse/sibling/parent will pickup baby ASAP. A storm/bridge collapse/airline strike keeps them away. Hijinks still can ensue.
  23. I’m watching on my Roku tv, seems fine, so far.
  24. That is what I couldn’t figure out - why have a hearing if you are not going to release a report? If figure skating’s international body can “go rogue” and ignore RUSADA’s findings, what has been the point of the hearing? It looks to me like the international governing body just lacks the intestinal fortitude to make a decision.
