  1. Hawaii Five-O. Exciting days catching the bad guys (though I fear I wouldn’t be much help), topped off with evenings of mai tais with the crew at a beachside bar. (I lived in Hawai’i for 10 years, so this would be a way to go back.)
  2. @Dani - partial solution found, though I guess you’ve already found your own and this might depend on the kind of non-TV device you’re using. I signed in to the HBO MAX app on my iPad using my Hulu sign-in info, and now I have Friends, Studio Ghibli, etc., but only when I open the HBO MAX app and only on my iPad. If I access it via Hulu, I still get only HBO content. Haven’t successfully sideloaded it to my TV yet.
  3. @Dani - I’m sorry, I didn’t realize there was an HBO MAX that incorporated non-HBO shows. I don’t have Friends (except for 5 random episodes that were apparently on TBS recently) or The Big Bang Theory (except 1 episode). You could add them to “My Stuff,” and they would be recorded from regular channels when they’re aired in syndication, but I realize thar’s far from the same thing. I’m going to check with Hulu and/or try to use the sideloading method described on the previous page. I don’t have time right now but will get back to you.
  4. I don’t have cable/satellite anymore. I do have plenty of TV, though - Hulu Plus Live TV, bundled with ESPN (which I don’t use) and Disney+, as well as HBO and Showtime/Cinemax add-ons. PLUS Netflix and Amazon Prime as apps. I just go to Hulu to watch HBO Max, and I didn’t even have to download a new app when it switched from HBO Go. I was afraid the transition wouldn’t go smoothly because I use a Firestick, so my home screen is heavily oriented toward Amazon, but it was seamless. And Hulu with all my bundles and premiums is less than half what I paid my satellite provider. Negatives: it’s a little harder to navigate until you get used to it, and the DVR functionality isn’t as good. There is no physical DVR, just a cloud DVR with limited recording capacity, which doesn’t bother me because everything shows up in “My Stuff” & you can just stream it. I do, however miss seeing what I’m recording in the future and being able to sort my recordings alphabetically or chronologically.
  5. I don’t think they’ve announced an exact premiere date (someone correct me if I’m wrong!), but it’s scheduled for this fall - so maybe late September or early October? This will be Season 32, which was filmed a couple of years ago. After that, it will probably be quite a while (if ever?) that we get a new season. Season 33 started filming and was “suspended” after it became clear coronavirus was a serious global threat.

Interesting; thanks for your responses. They must have changed it very soon after Hamilton opened OR I completely imagined it. But I have such a vivid recollection of it! I’ll have to ask the friends I went with.

One difference I noticed between the Broadway show I saw and the film is that Hamilton/L-MM had white hair starting with “It’s Quiet Uptown” on Broadway but not in the movie. I wonder if the change to white hair has been modified since 2015. (I also saw a touring production in 2018 but can’t remember.) Has anyone else noticed?
  8. I haven’t fact-checked this, but according to some super-fans whose information I trust, it wasn’t eligible because the season didn’t start within the necessary parameters.

I read it, too, but was only about halfway through when I saw the musical. A friend said he was grateful that Hamilton died at 47(ish) because 818 pages was plenty long enough.
  10. A couple of tangential comments: Robert Goulet was my second crush when I was a small girl, so I’ve always had a soft spot for him. My first crush, when I was even smaller (age 3/4?) was.....Liberace. I agree, @Rinaldo, that Laura Benanti was the star of Women on the Verge (though she wasn’t billed as such and didn’t have the biggest role). But my second favorite, by far, was Danny Burstein. I went to the very first preview (they hadn’t even had a dry run of the whole production, and Bartlett Sher came out to apologize before it started), and there were technical problems galore, which the cast handled with grace and humor. I agree that some of the big names were not transcendent, but I still loved it, which is a pretty unpopular opinion.
  11. I wanted Lee to win the whole thing. My favorite now is Myles. If I could pick the next two to get their time cards punched, it would be Young, then Linda, though Linda is the only one on the whole show I dislike.
  12. I love Taraji P. Henson, but I’m not watching any Cookie spin-offs until we get some explanation about what happened with Lucious and the gunshots and Cookie and the car explosion. I know ending the series early wasn’t their fault, and I know they probably won’t be able to film the original ending because of cost and other commitments, but I need closure!
  13. I liked this show well enough last week. This week, it took two words (“previously on... “) in Phil’s voice, and I’m captivated.
  14. They did reconcile for a few months after the race, though, before they broke up.
  15. Not me. I kind of went to the stage version unspoiled because the cast album hadn’t been released yet, so I’d only heard snippets of a couple of songs. I knew the general history but had only got through about half of Ron Chernow’s book so didn’t know that Also, Chris Jackson and Anthony Ramos were out the night I went, so seeing them in the movie has been a revelation. Since then, I’ve listened to the cast recording dozens, if not hundreds of time, read the lyrics and some background on the Genius site, and seen interviews with Lin and others. I still don’t know all the lyrics, though, and probably never will. I have to read the words of Guns and Ships; otherwise, Daveed Diggs just sounds like a lawnmower to me, he’s so fast.

@ElectricBoogaloo - I was having a discussion with a couple of friends about SYTYCD alumni in Hamilton and remembered your post because Neil Haskell was in the OBC and not in the film. I did some sleuthing and discovered that he left Hamilton at the end of February 2016, presumably for rehearsals for Tuck (based on Tuck Everlasting). Tuck lasted less than 2 months, including previews, and closed at the end of May. Neil returned to Hamilton at the end of June, a few weeks after filming and stayed in the Broadway cast for 3-ish years when he joined the Philip tour as George III. I’m guessing he’s not getting money from the film, but I could very well be wrong. Speaking of King George, in case people on this thread didn’t know and are interested (not you, EB - I always assume you know much more than I 😄) - he’s been played on Broadway for the past 3 years by Euan Morton, father of Iain Armitage of Big Little Lies and Young Sheldon fame. I was first aware of Iain several years ago when he would give very precocious talking heads about plays/musicals he’d seen, including Hamilton, and post them on Twitter. I don’t watch Young Sheldon, but he was quite good in Big Little Lies.
  17. @jette - I “liked” your post not because I currently agree with it but because I certainly did after episode 1. I don’t know how much you know about the season, so I’ll put this in spoiler tags, even though it only spoils whether the Paolos lasted beyond the first few episodes: I can’t swear to this, but it seems like survivorsucks people were the first ones to “deify” Mama Paolo. I met her at a few TARcons, and she’s one of my favorite racers ever! And I’m far from alone. I’ll be interested to see if your feelings change.

I’m the opposite of you, @angora. I saw Lin in Hamilton and Javier in In the Heights (after Lin had left the production). I wish I’d been able to see Hamilton again with Javier because he’s fantastic (but definitely in addition to, not instead of, Lin).
  19. @isalicat - have you read Josephine Tey?

Also, if you haven’t gone to the The Hamilton Genius site, I found it very helpful. Several years ago, I listened to one Hamilton song/day while reading the lyrics and the annotations (while also listening to the entire album on an almost daily basis without reading). Genius also features many other musicals and albums, so, if interested, prepare yourself to devote many hours!

That is so rude! You paid to hear professionals, not fans. I’ve seen it twice (far fewer times than many of my friends) - once the OBC (except Chris Jackson and Anthony Ramos, who were both out) and once a touring production. But I couldn’t understand many of the lyrics the first time because there was no cast album out yet, so I’d heard and seen only a couple of things (parts of “Alexander Hamilton” and “My Shot,” I think). In a way I can’t wait, but I think I might, both because it drops at 3:00 a.m. here (I say, typing at 3:32 a.m.), but more because I’m afraid it will crash at first due to immense traffic.
  22. Jennifer keeps telling the performers that this contest is for the best dancers in the world. There are groups/individuals I’ve liked and been impressed by, but definitely not anyone close to “best in the world” worth $1,000,000. Not like last year when I was blown away by the Kings (though tepid on most of their competition). Is it just me or has the talent really diminished?
  23. I love crême brûlée but dislike flan, even though they have similar tastes, because of the textures. Flan is too “bouncy.” I also don’t like the texture of gummies, jelly beans, or mochi, which is made with rice flour and has that sticky texture similar to jellied foods. People in Hawai’i thought I was crazy for not considering mochi a huge treat.
  24. I’m hoping that the way Padma said, “You ARE Top Chef!” means that Bryan won because he was in second place twice and now he’s finally #1. I do adore Melissa and Gregory, too, so would be happy with a win by either of them, but I’ve been rooting for Bryan for over ten years.
