  1. That’s what I heard, too, but why is he still getting multiple texts from a hook-up he had several months ago? That’s what I’d be upset about.
  2. I couldn’t agree more. Ever since Ben, then everyone else, started saying Lifeboat (*), each episode has been exponentially worse than the last. (*) Closed captioning always capitalizes “lifeboat.” Because it’s such an Important Concept, doncha know.
  3. The premise of this show doesn’t interest me a lot, but it’s got Nicholas Gonzalez, so I’ll probably give it a try. Tuesdays, 9:00 ET, NBC. Takes place in LA, but principal photography will be in Australia. https://deadline.com/2021/05/nbc-2021-22-schedule-law-order-thursday-this-is-us-midseason-no-comedies-1234756072/
  4. Oh, how I’ve missed you, @Dejana. I can’t wait to get your regular weekly reports again.
  5. I agree - or mostly agree because I’ve really enjoyed the last few episodes, as well, but the first season had Mitch, and I don’t think anything can quite live up to that heartrending glory. I’m a little disgruntled with myself because I’m not warming up to Rose at all, and it’s for stupid reasons. Mostly, it’s because the actress played a character I hated in the first season of How to Get Away with Murder. And we’ve seen too little of her to make me invested in her and Max as a couple; they seem more like good friends. I also might have resented her a little at first because I was Team Max for quite a while, but it took about 30 seconds of Zoey being with Simon before I switched allegiances. I wonder how well Oscar Nuñez (Zoey’s therapist a.k.a. Oscar from The Office) sings. I googled and found an old commercial in which he plays a singing State Farm Agent and a couple of other references that he likes to sing. Maybe he sings a heart song during one of his sessions with Zoey and realizes that she does have a superpower or at least a sort of repressed empathy that manifests itself in the form of imagined heart songs.
  6. The reason Ana thinks Javi’s cheating on her is that he’s constantly and furtively getting and sending texts. When she looked at his phone and saw he was hiding the person’s identity, it made her even more suspicious.
  7. Phoebe Dynevor (Daphne) has a recurring role as Clare, the Irish wife of Josh in the later seasons of Younger.
  8. I didn’t watch it, but I think this is what you mean, @LeighLeigh. (I googled “Seth Rudetsky This Is Us” & this is what came up.)
  9. Now: Quaker Simply Granola Childhood: Life
  10. Easy-peasy - Lowe’s or Menard’s for a new refrigerator, washer, and dryer. I’d do research before, get fairly high-end models and pay the difference myself.
  11. I agree that, so far at least, this is a pretty generic sitcom, but if I have to watch a so-so show to see Ted Danson, then I’m gonna watch a so-so show to see Ted Danson. And I have residual love for Vella Lovell from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and like her in this, too. I’m in.
  12. Off topic, but did you ever take a class with Eleanor Zelliot at Carleton or was she before your time? Every term she would have each of her classes over to help make and eat an Indian meal. I remember being thrilled when my first poori puffed up. And I made the kheer occasionally for years afterward.
  13. And, even after that, I expect they’ll have to plan the route very carefully to avoid countries where they’d still be at risk of exposure. Since the vaccine is at the very beginning stages of roll-out worldwide, I think the route/travel arrangements/tasks parts of pre-production will be delayed. I’m sure they’re doing as much as they can as early as they can and keeping copious lists of possible countries, but I believe it will be too dangerous to finalize it until the end of 2021 or later.
  14. Schitt’s Creek (for the first time!), World’s Toughest Race, The Good Doctor (still have several S3 episodes before I can start the current season).
  15. I would pick Jimi Hendrix out of the above. But the ones I would really pick would be (1) Prince; and (2) James Brown in his prime.
  16. I see Academy Awards! I think Viola is going to get her first Best Actress Oscar. I haven’t paid for streaming rights to a specific movie since the pandemic started (and years before that), but this looks like an exception.
  17. She is still awesome - 24 and working toward her doctorate in microbiology. Billy, 27, enlisted in the Air Force right after high school and is now in college studying electrical engineering. Their younger sister, Kelley, is getting her Master’s in forensics. (All reported with permission of Tammy; many of us who went to TARCon and the TARFlies lunches got to be friendly with the family. At one TARFlies lunch Carissa played the ukulele and sang Tiny Bubbles; clown Al from S4 wore the plastic coconut bra and skirt I brought from Hawai’i.)
  18. Leo and Alana are now married. I saw a post on Twitter tagging them, and they have the same last name (Alana’s!), so I googled. I wish you two many happy years!
  19. I, too, would have found it incredibly depressing had I not watched it after the New York Times report about Trump’s taxes came out. I kept saying to Saturday John (is that when it’s filmed?), “Cheer up, buddy! It’s going to get a lot better in a couple of days!” Of course, Amy Coney Barrett could still be confirmed by the Senate, which would lead to many of the bad things mentioned by John, but some of them likely won’t come before the Supreme Court if we have a new administration, especially if there’s also a predominantly Democratic Senate. I’m hoping that my new semi-optimism is not unfounded.

    Fargo In The Media

Thanks, @cpcathy. Here’s Matt Zoller Seitz’s review from Vulture if anyone else is interested. I skimmed a few other reviews. The NPR reviewer raves, but also believes Season 3 was as good as Seasons 1/2, so his taste may be a bit questionable. The Rotten Tomatoes score is 80% - snippets of reviews are at the bottom of the page. CNN’s review is mixed, praising the atmosphere but panning the slowness and recognizing that both S3 and S4 are far below the peak of the first 2 seasons. I’m pretty sure I’ll watch it, or at least start to, but with low-ish expectations.

Do you have a link or the name of the reviewer, @cpcathy? Thanks.
  22. Yes, it is often jarring to me, too, that people shake hands (like Zoey and Jessica did this episode) and are crowded together. But I’m just watching it now, and an even bigger shock are the show’s beautiful shots of San Francisco skyline compared with photos from the past few days. Heartbreaking.
