  1. Does anyone know who plays Martin? (Rachel's assistant, I think. This week he was monitoring Scott and Duncan in the lab, but last week I think he was showing Delphine into Rachel's office.) He looks really familiar, but IMDB doesn't list him and it's driving me crazy.
  2. I think he said the street was too icy to stop there.
  3. I thought that was odd since Oceanic Time Warner here on O'ahu has BBCA, so I did some checking. It appears BBCA on Maui = channels 341/1341, and it's an add-on to basic cable, so maybe whoever owns the place you're staying in didn't spring for the more expensive package? You can buy the episode via iTunes or Amazon - not sure when, but probably shortly after it airs. Or you can hop an inter-island flight and come watch at my house!
  4. Recipe found (minor miracle since I haven't made it for decades) and posted in the new Recipes thread, stewedsquash!
  5. Brought over from The Stew Room thread. Bella - please feel free to change the title and/or move this to the Everything Else topic if you'd like. (Also, I am severely format-challenged and can't seem to make text bold or italicized from my iPad despite repeated googling and experimentation. If you have any hints, please share them!) KHEER (Indian Pudding) 1/2 lb butter 2 cardamom seeds 2 sticks cinnamon 1/2 lb vermicelli 4-5 cups milk 1 1/2 cup sugar 1 t saffron (optional) 1/2 cup blanched almonds 1/4 cup pistachios 1/2 cup white/golden raisins Melt butter in heavy pot and add the inside of the cardamom seeds and the cinnamon. Add the uncooked vermicelli and stir it around until it's thoroughly coated - at least 5 minutes. Add milk slowly, stirring constantly and scraping the bottom of the pan to avoid sticking or scorching. The vermicelli will melt slowly. Stir at least 1/2-hour until the mixture is thick and almost lump-free. Remove from heat and add sugar, nuts, and raisins. If using saffron, pour a little boiling water over saffron and stir into pudding. Cover and cool. I thought this recipe had cloves, but if guess it doesn't. You could add a bit if you want.
  6. The dessert sounds like kheer, stewedsquash, and is often made with vermicelli. I majored in Asian Studies in college, and whenever I took an Indian history class, the professor would have us over at the end of the term and we'd all make an Indian meal. I remember stirring the vermicelli in sweetened milk until it dissolved, which was long past the point where it felt like my arm would fall off. It also has Indian spices (cardamom, cloves, maybe cinnamon?) - kind of like a solid version of chai. You can find recipes on the Internet, but I think I might be able to find the one we made. If so, I'll start a recipes topic and post it there.
  7. Kara coming back is really good news for me - because I can't stand Kara and can't stand Jennifer Jason Leigh and so will finally be breaking up with this show I've been trying to ditch for the past two seasons.
  8. I agree - he's living the dream. I don't think Madonna is on tour now, so he's been dancing with Ricky Martin lately.
  9. Thayne Jasperson from Season 4 was also part of the original Broadway cast. They were all marvelous. According to the Newsies website, Jess and Evan are still in it.
  10. I *always* think Dennis Haysbert is saying, "That's Allstate, Stan." And I *always* say, "Stop calling me Stan."
  11. He was immortal only as long as Ned never touched him again, which required quite a suspension of disbelief, but I was willing to suspend all kinds of things for this show.

    Fargo In The Media

Fargo is one of my very favorite movies (partly because I lived in the Twin Cities for many years), and Linda Holmes had positive things to say about the first few episodes on Twitter, so I'm excited!
