  1. I was reviewing the list of Golden Globe nominees and Rob Lowe received a Best Actor / Comedy series nod. https://www.goldenglobes.com/sites/default/files/2016_golden_globe_nominations_press_release.pdf Note: This link is to the full list of nominees for all categories, as released by the GGs this morning.
  2. I have never gotten though this song without crying - The Dutchman, as sung by Steve Goodman (gone too soon in 1984), written by Michael Peter Smith. I can't even read the lyrics without welling up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmYvGW4QxXk I've never been too fond of country music - I like a couple of Garth Brooks songs, I guess - so I'm not familiar with names and song titles. But quite some time ago (maybe 15 -18 years?) I was watching a music awards show, I don't even know which one, and some guy I thought of as the Ford truck man came out and sang what I soon learned was Remember When. By the time he was halfway into the song I was bawling. Full on ugly cry. My sister loves country (we are so different) and I can't listen to Alan Jackson sing anything. Nothing; not even the Whatchmacallit River song. I go full Pavlovian at just the sound of his voice and start crying again. Yeah, I also think that's pretty weird. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xM3_dtGyspQ I might come back with more, but these two popped right into my head.
  3. I'm re-watching for the third time. I'm one who didn't see Seasons 1-5 during first run; I began in syndication and then joined weekly in Season 6. Since the finale I've done the whole series twice, but have watched "Goodbye Michael" at least five times. I still tear up. Currently, I'm in Season 4 and just finished "Did I Stutter?". I've rarely seen it mentioned but I think it's one of the best, easily in my top ten. It struck me that this is the real beginning of the growth of Michael Scott. He's had glimmers in earlier episodes, little baby spurts of awareness, but this is the first time I see a true difference. When Stanley tells Michael that he doesn't respect him, there's no way an earlier season Michael would have been able to say, "I can accept that." In Seasons 1-3 he would have pulled every OTT stunt he could think of to get Stanley to change his mind. Or at least retract. Now, Michael is never ever going to be the poster child for self-awareness or maturity. But it was a start. Plus Steve Carell acted the hell out of that episode; he was fantastic.
  4. Up until a few months ago the bumper on Hulu was Roger Howarth as Todd Manning, complete with scar. The bumper changed, athough it's still Howarth. Also in the shot is the back of Denise DelMucchio's head. So essentially, in this instance, GH's signature is RoHo wearing a WTF expression while looking at a bad wig. It's both amusing and a bit sad.
  5. The way Paul and Ava just sort of smush and smash into each other's faces cracks me up.
  6. Seeing this written out was a "Whoa!" moment. How did Kevin .. oops, I mean Fred, get to be 40? And why am I suddenly feeling so old? I thought Christina Applegate looked lovely. Perhaps she's allowing her face and body to age naturally instead of indulging in regular visits to a plastic surgeon, something I wish more actors would do. I like watching faces that can actually move, and are able to show character and nuance. However, that said, I didn't believe her at all when she claimed to have never seen Dean's show. Was it supposed to be telegraphed to the audience? Because it felt that way. Why is William Devane even on this show? They're giving him nothing. Literally ... nothing. [/Chris Traeger]
  7. I'm watching now on Hulu but I just had to jump in and say Yay! Rock is is back! A Branch and Rock combo! Who knew the new writers were going to take Carly is a slapstick direction? Hee. Other than the fact it's was one more effing, annoying delay, that was fun. *Back to watching, then to return here later and read perhaps other cheers for Return of Rock.*
  8. If you get the time and the chance, you really should. One of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen. Why yes, I own a copy. R.I.P. Ms. Mathison.
  9. This would be a perfect time for drunk and pissed-off Kiki to decide she wants a fresh start and that from this day forward she will be known as Lauren. Then Lauren decides to seek out her new life by leaving town. Though of late, I admit I'm kind of enjoying HE's "Oh, everyone in PC can just FOAD" attitude. Car accident ticked me off. First, it was predictable. Two, I don't want even another nanosecond wasted in the Jakeson reveal. Please end the pain.
  10. oops. messed up my post ... I guess I got a bit too excited over Robert Scorpio being back, even for a little while. It will be so good to see Tristan. Even though since it's only a short visit, the part of me that's still a hopeless romantic will probably hang in there hoping for another stint and, one day, Robert and Anna's happily ever after.
  11. I'm not much for country but Morgan won me over with her song choice of If It Breaks Your Heart. I have Will Hoge's (the songwriter) version on my favorites playlist; I just love it. So yay for Blake stealing Morgan back. I wanted Keith to win for the petty reason that I liked Manny Cabo and Keith was the one who beat him. I find that song cheesy but I get it can be a crowd pleaser. I also liked Darius, mostly for the fact that he was visibly wowed by Morgan and gave it up for her performance. And aside from all the runs, he really does have a nice voice. I have a feeling we haven't seen the winner yet; Pharrell has a 15 year old female version of Sawyer on his team. She wears a hat and sings old soul type songs, then exhibits a kind of child like personality. And I can't for the life of me remember her name right now. It begins with an S, I think. Anyway, I think she might be a dark horse once it comes to America voting and if she gets the right songs. With Pharrell that's always a gamble; I think Sawyer won because it seemed like Pharrell loosened the reins and let him make his own choices. Or maybe it's just that I yet to be wowed. By anyone.
  12. They really need to dump this Sonny and Carly as the patriarch and matriarch of Port Charles stuff. No one's buying. If GH wants a town matriarch character, well, you've got Genie back. Use her. I think she'd do just fine as a take no bullshit truth-teller. Assuming they can extricate her from the stupid Jason story with some remaining dignity. And that she stays. Reopen Deception. Get rich. Flick Sonny away like the gnat that he his. Then she runs the damn town herself.
  13. I watched this show on Netflix for the first time last year. By the end of my watch I didn't like any of Rory's love interests, though my least favorite was Dean. Surprisingly, one of my favorite characters was Lane. I adored her and Mrs. Kim; at times I thought they had the more interesting mother / daughter relationship. So here's to them returning, please. Mrs. Kim would surprise me in ways that Lorelai didn't. And I want plenty of Emily. I loved her, flaws and all.
  14. I don't mind Patrick / JT's hair. Spikes are over and bangs would looks silly. So would that shaved on the sides, semi-pompadour that TC had for a bit; JT is too mature for that cut. Then again I like longer hair on guys. So, yeah, I think he looks fine.
  15. From the episodes thread, ulkis wrote: Whaaaat!?! She just got back. Aw, man.
  16. There's one gap for me, a piece of information I'm still wondering about. Why did Dean stop being an actor? There's no mention of what his options were after The Grinder was cancelled. Has he truly retired and being in the "real" world is now what he really wants? Or was his initial decision to return home due to lack of offers for other roles? Since every episode includes scenes from his cancelled show and he provides narration after most of his conversations, the actor in Dean seems very much alive and that he hasn't let go. I'm curious to see what would happen if there was a call from his agent with a part and what choice he would make. I'm enjoying Rob Lowe, but I'm also loving what Fred Savage is doing as Stewart. Now give Devane something to do; he's currently way too much of an afterthought. He doesn't even get the B plots.
  17. Didn't we get a scene a while back showing that Carlos' ID / wallet, and the gun used to shoot him, were kept by Sloan to use as leverage over Anna? Did I dream that? (Dear God, I hope not. That would mean I was dreaming about this show and that would indicate, well, problems ...) Every time I see a recorder on TV I think of ST:TNG's "The Inner Light episode." Can't help it. I loved Jean-Luc / Patrick Stewart. I miss Michael Quartermaine. It was so short lived; I wish they hadn't teased us like that. *Thank you, ulkis!
  18. If they are going to switch out Sharks I wish they would do it with Lori's spot; she's my least favorite. Her only upside this season is that she hasn't said "a hero or a zero" during these first 3 episodes. Robert is my favorite, followed by Daymond. Please, sub for Lori! My glasses, even though fitted, slip all the time. And always when my hands are full or soapy. If Nerd Wax lasts 8 months I may try it.
  19. Ross playing the bagpipes has never been the same for me since seeing the bloopers. Now I look at Aniston and Kudrow, especially JA. She never did make it through the scene without breaking and for some reason that cracks me up even more.
  20. I made it all the way through, which I still can't believe. I kept thinking that it had to get better. Nope. How can a show with such a good cast be this awful? Disjointed, clunky, unfunny and kind of gross. I hated it.
  21. Damn it! Avery and Juliet used to be my happy place and my favorite part of Nashville. What the hell are you doing? If it's PPD, just show it and have them play it out already. And by that I mean have HP and JJ act this story together. They are dangerously close to reaching a point of no return. And Rayna doesn't know what the hell she's doing when it comes to her label. Stupid show.
  22. I liked JT's little guitar and singing interlude, and thought his voice was pretty good. Just a hanging out in the bedroom scene, nice and laid back. The show rarely does that type of thing so I appreciate those moments when they happen. I have no trouble buying into Patrick's ability to play the guitar. Maybe because I learned to play in high school, got way too sidetracked after college by grown up life, and drifted away from it. When I turned forty, I realized it would be fun to pick up again. I sat down to play and it all came back, right down to the first songs I learned at age 16. And any peek into a characters 'normal' life would likely seem to come out of nowhere, since most events that aren't turned up to eleven happen off screen.
  23. I don't think she comes back from this. Quite frankly, I'm not so sure that she should. Her total lack of understanding about what she wrote, the insensitivity, and the ignorance of historical context regarding the Viola Davis win is astounding. I looked at the tweets and it never stopped being about her, even in apology. And her attempts at praising Ms. Davis seemed more desperate than genuine. I say this as someone who likes the character of Alexis. A Google news search just showed 792 articles on Nancy Lee Grahn all within the last 12 hours. I only read a couple; the levels of second hand embarrassment were making my stomach hurt. And having too much to drink last night, not meaning any harm, etc., just isn't going to cut it in the cold light of day.
  24. So should I be nervous that there's a new opening and I haven't spotted Genie Francis? I'm still in for Finola, Tracy and Genie's return as a regular. Does anyone know when she's coming back? I found myself wondering what Genie and Rick Hearst would be like onscreen together. I know, it's a weird pairing, but I'd like to see how that would play out and if they have any chemistry.
