Dr. Pimple Popper - General Discussion
jcbrown replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Dr. Pimple Popper
Why on earth would the producers think that when we tune in for a show about dermatological problems, we would want to watch someone get a Brazilian wax as a free commercial for Dr. Lee's friend? I do not care about Dr. Lee's "bestie" nor do I care about the hairlessness of their client. Stop this nonsense, show.- 1.6k replies

Especially because she actually has some talent. She had a show in the early 2000s (So NoTorious, I think?) that demonstrated that she actually has some comedic chops. But instead she decided to lean into her anxieties and hoarding and compulsive shopping and body dysmorphia and married Dean the barnacle and popped out a million kids. (I know much of that was not a conscious choice and she is someone who needed more mental health support than she got/sought.)

Cavendish is so beautiful @Scarlett45. Glad you had such a good trip and I totally get your relief at being home!

I could not agree more. This is not mentoring, it’s abusing your brigade, a very old-school style of kitchen management whose time should have passed. Throwing food is so disrespectful to your cooks, to the ingredients, to people who actually need food. Do better, Gordon.

Beige, of course.

The Great Food Truck Race - General Discussion

This was the first week I noticed that all of Pura Cepa's uniforms are too tight. I don't remember ever seeing all the teams so upset and Tyler toasting after a team got sent home. And the editors really hate Khana (as do I), what with that edit of everyone being sad and then the psycho leader in a talking head practically cackling about not being nice anymore. Bitch, please. -
Exactly the right description! I spent far too much of the episode trying to figure out why she decided that was a "style" that worked for her.

I agree with @GeeGolly that the statement is victim-blaming. I don't think that Amy would say it is her cousins' fault for being assaulted by J'inmate but the way it is worded, the statement is Amy saying that Josh "knew better" than to attack Amy, and that implies that she thinks there is something she did that her cousins did not that contributed to their assaults. It's a subtle distinction. There is a natural tendency to figure out how to exempt oneself from being vulnerable (I would not have gone there, I would not have worn that, I would not have been there alone, e.g.) and I think that is what Amy was trying to do ("how is this not something that would happen to me?"). In the way she said it, Amy--IMHO as someone who worked with survivors and worked to train people how to set up programs for survivors--(probably inadvertently) blamed her cousins for their vulnerability.

I only caught this one once on TV but saw a different one today that led me to find it. Apologies if it's been mentioned before but the last line cracks me up. https://www.ispot.tv/ad/1MFT/orchard-valley-harvest-omg-omega-3-mix-the-watcher

The Great Food Truck Race - General Discussion

I don't know why this is the angle the producers think we want. I love the Great British Bake-off, I love the Great American Baking Show, I love the Great Pottery Throw-Down--I much prefer to watch shows where people who are good at something support each other and compete fairly. If I want to see trashy shit-stirring, there are no shortage of options to tune into (TLC, anyone?). Why must this one center on creating villains? The Paisani truck was good guys helping their competitors so they got sent home and episodes have to center around the Khana truck and their petty leader and her minion with a godawful neck tattoo.- 1.5k replies

I'm so sorry, @AstridM. In 2019 I lost my 19+ year-old kitty who had been with me since she was three weeks old. I know how much that hurts. I had several good photos of her printed and framed and they still bring me comfort. I say good morning to her most days.

And the facial goop test was a complete waste of viewers' time and probably customers' money if they buy it.- 1.6k replies

Last night's episode focused WAY too much on that dumbass witch with the cyst. Her "pop" was a nothingburger and her life was stupid. I have known and respected Wiccans so this is not a bias except inasmuch as I am biased against boring poseurs. -
Supermarket Stakeout - General Discussion

I enjoy most of the episodes, especially when they are not ramping up the gameplay and having the contestants try to stomp on each other or the shoppers try to gouge them. I actually look forward to this show. -
Gary is vile, getting all butt-hurt that Mads may have been on her period. Grow the fuck up, dude. If you couldn't tell, it didn't matter. And if you could tell, it also might not have mattered if you were emotionally older than 12.

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

For those like me who could not stand to give clicks to Ms. Balls, I found a piece about it on the Daily Beast: https://www.thedailybeast.com/anna-duggars-dad-mike-keller-gives-bonkers-racist-sermon-on-slavery I suppose it is not a surprise that Anna's dad is an incoherent racist POS but it is still startling to read. -
Dang, @Jynnan tonnix, I am exhausted just reading about everything on your plate. Of course you are tired. I second, third, fourth others' recommendations to try to take care of yourself, too and get help when and where you can. Hang in there and feel free to vent anytime.

The Great Food Truck Race - General Discussion

Color me surprised to find the Paisani team is my favorite so far. I expected to hate them when they were introduced but they seem compassionate (response to the accident, loaning food to other teams) and I have really warmed to them. Still not crazy about their schtick, however. I'm glad the truck with that bitchy woman went home this week. I'd had too much of her in only two episodes. Not sure why the blue-bearded guy wants to hang with her, he seemed so chill.- 1.5k replies

Are we done with auditions finally? The audition episodes are automatically delete-without-watching for me.

I don't think this has been posted here yet, apologies, if so. The LA Times had a good interview with Padma recently about her leaving the show and who she thinks should replace her. It's worth reading the whole thing but in case there's a paywall the salient point is here: "If Bravo recruits the next host from within the “Top Chef” family, who would you recommend? I don’t want to piss anyone off. [Past contestants] are all like my children. There are a lot of great people, like Melissa King and Kristen Kish, who have other shows. Carla Hall would be fantastic. Either Gregory Gourdet or Kwame Onwuachi could do the job because they are the hottest chefs in the world right now, and we don’t see enough Black men in roles at the forefront of the professional food world, even though Black men and women have been making most of the food in this country historically. Kwame is charismatic and funny; Gregory is thoughtful and has a lot of empathy. And I think Gail could be great too. We have grown up together on this show, and she certainly knows how to handle all the complexities that sit between us [at Judges’ Table]. Maybe the solution is to have Gail take my chair, and then you could have a permanent position that only alumni get to take." Interview is here.
