  1. I had a Monte Cristo sandwich many years ago at the Readers Digest company cafeteria (summer job). I loved it but don't recall the toast being sweet (like French toast). I'm going to make a similar sandwich, but closer to a grilled cheese with turkey & ham. All I need is some turkey.
  2. Well, I must not have been paying close attention this morning. I didn't realize those were Hawaiian rolls--too sweet for me. They're almost a dessert! But I like the idea of Buffalo chicken in a roll. Think I'll look around for a similar recipe that calls for homemade rolls. I *was* paying attention during Alex's segment & was stunned that she was using French toast to make her sandwich. My arteries started clogging just from watching those sammies being made.
  3. Jeff & Lorenzo need their own "cooking & whatnot" show. That kid is a-dorable. I missed GZ's demo (having laptop worked on) in preparing his focaccia but it looked good. Need to try that. I might try Sunny's Buffalo chicken rolls just because I'm intrigued by Buffalo chicken.
  4. Thanks. I just checked the onscreen schedule and our local NBC affiliate now shows skating. Yay!!
  5. Thanks for this link. I really like Mariah and her skating. Her style reminds me of the good ol' days when we just naturally expected top athletic skills along with stunning artistry & got them both. The sport has moved on, though. So I think I'll be looking at ice dance after MB retires to get my artistic skating fix--unless some quad queen/king emerges whose *artistry* will take my breath away.
  6. It looks like I'll only get to see skating tonight, from 8 PM--midnight. And tomorrow from 9PM--midnight. Does that sound right to everyone who gets NBCSN (but not Peacock)? Isn't there anything on regular NBC? I keep thinking I'm missing out on something.,
  7. Was the dated looking kitchen sort of beige/dark cream colors? I was surprised to see a top chef's home kitchen looking so dowdy.
  8. Adios, azztros and yeah...hope the door hits ya really hard on your way out.
  9. I've noticed this & wonder if Anderson is trying to talk too fast. Back in the late 90's, I noticed a change in the way the 20 & 30 somethings talked...waaayyy too fast. And the females were chirping (only way to describe it). The speedy talkers were talking so fast they were verbally stumbling over their words. He just needs to slow down. The host who annoys me is Erin Burnett. She's smart and knows what she's doing. But her way too long hair is hanging all over the place plus, Erin seems to be huddling and sometimes almost mumbling (that might be due to the long hair & hunching over). It's always made me uncomfortable so I rarely watch her show.
  10. Mounds, Almond Joy, and Chocolate Kisses are the only candies I'll eat. Sometimes I like to eat them with a chilled Granny Smith apples.
  11. Wow...I *loved* those beans & spaetzle. The sauce made the difference. I'm sad to say that no supermarket in my area is selling B&M baked beans in the little brown glass jars. They were the real deal, IMO, of Boston baked beans. I emailed the company & was told some stores outside my area are still carrying them. Guess I'll have to go on a road trip one of these days to stock up. Even the B&M beans sold in cans just aren't quite right.
  12. A guy goes to a club; the bouncer stops him. "No tie, no entry." He walks back to his car to find a tie. All he found were jumper cables so he puts them around his neck like a tie. He goes back and says "How's this?" The bouncer says, "I'll let you in, but don't start anything."
  13. I made butternut squash soup (from various cooks'/chefs' recipes) and shrimp salad ( a la Ina).
  14. Fettuccini al fredo, tossed salad, and a baguette (with a few anchovies baked on top).
  15. I just ordered Jerry's book, "Is This Anything?"
  16. I agree re: Texas Pete--not as hot as Tabasco. There's also sambal oulek (ground fresh chili paste it says but it's not a "paste"). I learned about sambal oulek in an Italian restaurant in Stockholm when I asked the waiter what made their marinara so good.
  17. I agree 100%. You can have "the sweetest doggie in the world" but you *never* know about animals. One chomp is all it takes.
  18. Geez--I've never made mayo (been tempted, but just haven't). Hellmanns is pretty good (& Ina *always* recommends it). When I first made aioli, I carefully followed the recipe. But after a while, I started tossing the ingredients together. I'd taste test to ensure it was good. Sometimes I use lime instead of lemon (going rogue!!)
  19. Hmmm...I just throw together mayo, some Dijon, lemon zest & juice, garlic, a little cayenne, S&P.
  20. Go make them...they are so good! I make aioli as a dip for them. Yum🤓
  21. IMO, Don Lemon isn't all that impressive when he & Cuomo have their OTT smug little chats each evening. But that's just me...not a fan. Interesting that only one person, Baldwin, "paid" for being hammered & silly.
  22. My cookbook arrived yesterday. It's wonderful! I can't wait to make that smashed burger with the caramelized onions. I've already made the English roasted potatoes that Emily Blunt made for Ina (about a month ago when I read about the recipe being in the new book) - they are soooooo delicious. I have most of the cookbooks (but not the Paris cookbook or the Parties cookbook). It's such a nice, serene experience perusing her cookbooks. Beautiful photos.
  23. There's a long article about EVH in today's Washington Post. Someone in the comments section mentioned that he did get credit for that instrumental section in the middle of Beat It. It was on the album cover. So that's good. When that song came out, I was at a radio station visiting a DJ (actually I took him to lunch to thank him for promoting a special event my fdn was doing). The song came on and the DJ turned to me and said, "That's Eddie Van Halen". IMO, it's the best part of that song.
  24. Feel better soon!! My comfort food when my GI system is cranky: rice with a little butter, salt & pepper. We had Rotini with Italian Sweet Turkey Sausage, Mushroom and Zucchini tonight.
  25. Does an apple a day really keep the doctor away? If you aim well enough.
