Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"
annzeepark914 replied to Betweenyouandme's topic in Everything Else
I only had wedding cake with fondant once. It was like chewing gum. Good grief...I've seen beautiful wedding cakes, none of which used that wretched crap. Why do they keep using it? Unless using fondant is the only way they can create those odd-looking cakes (e.g., the top layer is tilted). Sheesh....just think of what that gunk does to one's intestines. -
Thanks!! That's good to hear. If anyone tries the skewer through the lemon or lime, let us know how it turns out. These pro's made it look so easy. Maybe it is.

Grilled brats, potato salad, tossed salad, & brownies for dessert.

I'm now a big fan of this new & vastly improved Kitchen. If they revert to the studio in the future, I'll be gone. In the meantime, today's foods looked good. Katie's grilled version of chicken parmesan is healthier. My only concern is the cheese melting onto the grill so I'll have to put the chicken on one of those grates or whatever they're called. Alex again w/ no ring but she had a ring on her right hand. Hmmm.

Happy Birthday, shapeshifter!! I hope you celebrated in style 🍷🌷🦋💐🎂 -
I'm still marveling over Brandon's & Alexa's one hand/one butt overhead lift. You really notice these things during practice sessions. Female pairs skaters must have nerves of steel.

I laughed when I saw the name of Kasie's show. it was new to me cause I never watch TV at that time. Well, I think the only times I've put the TV on at 5 is if the weather is horrendous & wakes me up. I'll miss seeing her. Kasie will be the first to catch all the tweets.

Maine Cabin Masters - General Discussion
annzeepark914 replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Maine Cabin Masters
The first time I ever heard a summer house referred to as a camp was by upstate New Yorkers. We called ours a summer place (on a lake in CT). It must be a regional thing. There's one episode where a couple bought a place and the husband was dumbfounded that his wife kept calling it a camp. I got a kick out of that. It's a great show. -

I'm annoyed by the whole *surprise* proposal thing. I know a couple who went to Australia to get engaged. We kept getting updates from the bride to be ("it hasn't happened yet!"). This stupid wedding industry can turn normally sane, nice folks into goofballs, IMO. At least this couple's wedding was calm & lovely. -
Ina & Giada don't wear rings while cooking on their shows. I wonder if the Kitchen is now repeating earlier shows (they did on 8/29).
-
Hope all is well. I've always gotten a kick out of Alex. For years, she'd roll her eyes a lot during the different shows she was on. It always made me laugh. Haven't seen her do that in quite a while.

We just had Katie Lee's Breakfast Bread for Sunday supper (we now have them on flour tortillas instead of naan). I'm still struggling trying to get the eggs just right (sunnyside eggs baked are trickier than cooked in a skillet). It was good. Geez, there have been some tasty meals mentioned here: BLT's, lobster rolls, fried chicken, marinated grilled chicken etc. It's inspiring!!

Josh Farris. Today's figure skating could've benefited from his influence, IMO. To me, he was another one of those rare skaters who perfectly blended artistry & athleticism (which is what the sport of figure skating was created to be--something not easy to accomplish).

Spaghetti with shrimp/marinara. Apple crostata & vanilla ice cream for dessert.

It didn't take her long to offend another group of people. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/09/02/msnbcs-joy-reid-under-fire-casual-islamophobia/

I'm probably one of rhe few fans who loved the finale. Seeing all those unique characters watching the trial (in the courtroom or at home) was the best part for me. Unfortunately, in the reruns I think some of those folks' scenes were cut. I should buy the dvd of the finale to see if that's true. I wonder if Jerry was friendlier to fans before Seinfeld. Don't know if I'd like fans constantly approaching me.

Such a pretty name--Iris. My hairdresser's toddler's name is Lily. So, is it too much to hope that this young generation is reverting to the classics when naming their babies? Fingers crossed!!

Ham steak, scalloped potatoes, and salad.

Unpopular Food Likes/Dislikes: Table for One

Hmmm...I recently made Wacky Cake which usually is really good. But this time it just wasn't (the only part we liked was my buttercream frosting). It called for either brewed coffee or water. I've done both over the years. I used a cup (via k-cup) of Dunkin Donuts coffee. Then, the other day I looked at the tin of cocoa powder & noticed the exp date was 2015. So, it was either the old cocoa powder or the DD k-cup coffee. The cake flavor just wasn't chocolate-y enough or something like that. -

I've heard that dust can also seep in via windows (so can noise--we had new windows installed last year & we now have less dust & it's really quiet). But I don't like the sound of rain on the plastic-y new window frames (but they were a heckuva lot cheaper than wood!) -

Our house is half & half & we're keeping it that way. I grew up in a house with all hardwoods (except for a rug in the living room and tile in the kitchen) and, brrrr! In NY winters, it was not fun. I remember chasing dust bunnies on the hardwoods with a damp mop. We don't seem to have that problem in our house today. -
I asked if GZ lived in the Niagara Falls area earlier today. Later on this afternoon my phone is overrun by ads promoting Niagara Falls as a vacation destination. Creepy.

Pappardelle with Mixed Mushrooms and a tossed salad. Didn't have enough mushrooms so I sauted & added slices from a leftover pork chop. Very good.
-
BLT's using sliced strawberries instead of tomatoes? I dunno. But I am very interested in GZ's grilled mango salsa & grilled swordfish. What kind of industrial blenders are they using? Sunny broke apart a cucumber, tossed it in the mega blender, along w/ other stuff & waa-laa, it made green gazpacho! Alex used the same kind (but she was only blending watermelon). GZ made a comment about Niagara Falls & for some reason, I thought he said they lived there. Maybe I heard it wrong. I must try his technique for peeling a mango--it may involve lots of cursing at chez P914, though 🥴

I have no idea... that's all it's called on the menu and I don't order it for myself. But MaPoTofu is something he orders at other restaurants.
