  5. Interesting story about a Tiny House couple who are moving out. https://slate.com/culture/2019/02/tiny-house-hunters-burned-down-shack-update.html?__twitter_impression=true
  6. I was browsing the HGTV site yesterday and they had added a show with Oprah Winfrey--and at first I thought, oh cool, Oprah has some fancy houses I'd like to see. But no--it is simply a show with Oprah interviewing famous people like she always does--nothing to do with home design or real estate. Seems odd. I assume OWN and HGTV share some kind of common ownership or something.
  7. If Vicki needs a storyline she should break out that spreadsheet she has on Brooks and sue him.
  8. I understand that Shannon is used to a certain lifestyle, but it is hard for me to even envision how I would spend that much on regular monthly expenses. I feel like I make an ok salary and don't do without but one adult and 3 kids spending that much on groceries and eating out is just out of my experience and I would imagine the kids are with David at least part of the time and they would eat on his dime. And $5000 for entertainment and vacations every month? Again while I assume when the kids are with him, he pays to take them places so it's not even like she pays for everything they do. I just find it fascinating. I want to see receipts now because I just can't even think what I would do to spend that much money routinely. That said, I don't think it matters how much Shannon earns, while the kids are under age, he needs to pay his part whatever it costs to support them in the lifestyle he helped to create for their family.
  9. Jesus H Christ--I just watched the show where AV and Donovan get in a big fight because he has a full price buyer early on in the rehab process and AV absolutely refuses to allow the new owner to change anything in "her design" even tho things are not done yet, and could be modified to their requests if they wanted to pay for changes. AND then they have to carry the 1.4 million dollar house until spring to put it on the market because they turn down the buyers they had? AND TWO THOUSAND DOLLAR FREAKING DOORKNOBS? That gold front door surround is so pretentious and it is going to last one season in Chicago winter weather with no protection. Does she know how bad she comes across on this show?
  10. I watch through my Amazon fire stick and I see 5 episodes on their site. The first couple are the little row houses, I think the third one was the one with the copper pipe install on the ceilings and then she did 2 bigger houses in the last couple of episodes. The big city house with the turrets that she restored was amazing. It was such an unusual property and she made so much of all the historic features, then at the end she added a circular staircase up to a brand new roof deck with an incredible view. I really found Rachel to be amazingly likeable for this kind of show. Usually with these flip teams one of the lead people is annoying or goofy--and she is very good natured, seems to really do good work along with her team and she seems to be very energetic and hard working. The other thing I liked about her houses is she doesn't over-stage the houses--she seems to furnish them just enough to set the stage but unlike some shows like Good Bones, she doesn't go crazy with the accessories and furnishings. Yes, she speaks fluent Spanish AND she's an opera singer. Kind of amazing to see how accomplished she is for such a young woman.

    Design Shows

Back again with another new to me show---I watched a new show called Philly Revival on the DIY channel last night and I really enjoyed it. The woman who does the show is a licensed contractor, the designer, and a licensed realtor, so she probably makes a lot more profit. She seems to really know what she's doing--and there is little or no fake drama. She does several smaller row houses and she definitely has a "style" that she does in those, but then she did several larger homes and some of the things she did were just beautiful. The one that I remember was a house where on the main floor she had the all of the electrical in the ceiling for lighting run on top of the dry wall and they used copper pipe instead of the normal industrial looking stuff--and it ended up being kind of an art installation--where you see all the wiring in copper and the lighting descending from it. I've never seen anything like it and it was really beautiful. The woman is really likeable, and so is her crew--her mother also shows up briefly to help with staging at the end of each show. She seems to turn her places quickly--usually within a week of posting them and almost always gets a full price offer or better.

    Design Shows

This weekend I watched a show called American Rehab on the DIY channel--there are 5 seasons--they do a major rehab in a different season each season and 2 of them were flips, but the others were people re-doing their own homes. I really enjoyed the Detroit season where young man re-did a family home that his great grandparents lost in the depression, and the one of the Mt Airy plantation in Virginia was so interesting because of all the history they have in that property. I wonder why they didn't show all of the rooms for the last season--a beautiful old house in Newark NJ--the lady had clearly done the kitchen and they didn't really show it until the last episode as part of the party she had to show the house to her friends and family. The only season I did not care for was the flip house that was done in Buffalo. That couple had a very specific aesthetic and it was like they did a nice job with the rehab--but then they'd decorate and I would go "Oh no!"

    Design Shows

I watch HGTV using an Amazon Fire stick and a few months ago, they added back a lot of old shows---they have Vern Yip's shows, shows like Designer Finals, heck they even have Carol Duval's shows. A lot of them are pretty dated, but I suspect a lot of people ask for them so they put them out there. I wonder if there is some license issue with Candice's shows, hers are not there, and there is only one of Sarah Richardson's shows on the site right now.
  18. I've been binge watching Bargain Mansion --season one is on HGTV' site and I just found season 2 on the DIY channel. I like Tamara and her dad--they do good work, no surprises on her houses usually, and she does a very respectful job of restoring older homes. The projects are massive, so I like that she usually gives 2 episodes to one project--it seems like they put about 5-6 months on each one.
  19. Please tell me Jeff and Andy are not going to do a single daddies show together.
  20. I am trying to like this show, but it seems like they spend an ungodly amount of money and make a lot of mistakes. Every single place they do has some unplanned for expense, and it seems like people working at this level should be able to plan better. It seems like she gets obsessed with some very specific details that cost her on every place and those things don't ever seem to make that big a difference to the final outcome. I mainly like the guy who does her little specialty projects for her--rebuilding fireplaces, etc---I like him a lot. I wish she'd kind of step back and let him do his thing and let us see what he could come up with on his own.
