  8. No Rachel --Ali Velshi just signed off saying he'd be back for her show.
  9. Online there are some special content interviews with the 4 designers from Rock the Block and one of the questions was about how they wind down or how driven they are and Jasmine and Mina both said they feel very driven and work all the time --Mina said she feels like now she is responsible for half her family's incomes--so I assume the ones who work on the show get paid. From the way they talked--it sounded like they do a bunch of houses together and move the key people from place to place to film and have other crew who stay and work on the house. I bet the season where Good Bones did several houses close together made it a little easier just in travel time to set up and film. When you think about a season being sometimes 13 shows that's a lot of content they have to do and a ton of money tied up at the same time. It kind of made me realize why some shows can only put together short seasons--like 6 episodes, and sometimes they do a few and just don't come back---probably a lot of work and money for a small business to put up--even if eventually they make it back when the houses sell and the show airs.

I think UP does pretty well in the 8-10 slot so he will probably get that and I'm ok with moving David--I really like him and that late afternoon slot has been kind of all over the place--with them testing newer people on and off--they've also had new people doing the early early slot before UP when Alex doesn't do that and some of them would be ok. David is going to need to change his pastry tray to sandwiches or something---:) I would like to see Geoff Bennett or Jonathan Capehart or Zerlina Maxwell get a shot. I also like Maya Wiley and I'm really surprised they haven't had her cover for someone --usually that is when they are trying someone out--she's on Ari Melber and other shows almost every day--I'd think she would be able to transition to hosting. Ali getting the teaching job at Wharton is pretty great--and I think his wife lives and works in PA so maybe that is going to allow them to be together more. This is going to mess up my weekends--usually if I have to go out I wait until Joy is off and go, Now I'll have to record the afternoon or stay home!
  11. I know Rachel doesn't care, but whoever did her makeup in Atlanta did a great job--or maybe it was Tyler Perry's lighting. She looked really good! In NY sometimes the pile it on and use too much of the HD stuff under the eyes. In Atlanta, her skin and coloring looked really nice.
  12. I had never watched Jasmine's show before this, and I watched a bunch of season 1 and I'm not sure if it is that she doesn't have a design concept going in or if she isn't good at communicating it. When I see some designers--such as Leanne or even Alison, or Joanna Gaines, I can understand how it all comes together in their heads--into a cohesive design---not always a design I like or agree with but I do see they HAVE a plan. After I watched Hidden Potential, I noticed a lot of details--she bought or installed pretty things, but all those pretty things didn't make a memorable impression for me. But with that said--their mission was not to design the prettiest home--it was the most $$$ amount added to the value, so it made sense to me that Jasmine and Mina would come in on top--that is what their businesses are. I honestly could not repeat many details of either of their homes--they were nice but I didn't get that excited. I always think Good Bones homes are nice but over-decorated and tight on space. I assume their buyers send back all the stuff and furnish the homes themselves --but who knows? I really did like Leanne's house and I personally know people who would buy that one even tho it is really different--a wealthy couple whose kids are out of the house--retired to CA, they collect art--they'd love it. I liked some aspects of Allison's house--in particular the black stuff over the fireplace and I loved those big windows the way they looked closed--very elegant. I don't like her much but there was an overall feeling about her home that I liked--maybe because I'm from Chicago and now live on the East Coast?

Hallie Jackson just announced she's pregnant. Goodness, the Road Warrior women from the 2016 are taking turns this year!
  14. I watched Sarah Richardson's show on the HGTV site---it was good--her designs were beautiful, but here places end up being so expensive it takes the DIY out of it. https://watch.hgtv.com/tv-shows/sarah-off-the-grid/
  15. Nice article about Leanne's wedding https://www.domino.com/content/leanne-ford-erik-allen-wedding-elope/
  16. The thing I liked about Leann was that she talked a lot about creativity, and not being afraid to fail---she said she tries not to take on projects with homeowners who expect something other than her aesthetic--that other people approach her, but she knows she would not be able to do the style that they want. The quote I liked best from her was that she believes that you work to live--not live to work. That you do your job to support having a good life. I'm not sure what I expected, but a lot of things Leanne talked about were things I didn't know about her--and I've watched their little online family show as well as their regular one, so I thought I knew quite a bit about them. Both Mina and Jasmine talked a lot about how driven they are--that they work all the time and don't have a lot of work/life balance, and it seemed like Leanne has that. I think her brother Steve seems the same way--so maybe it is just how they were raised, but I do enjoy the fact that on most of their jobs they don't have a lot of drama-both of them seem to be that way. Alison said she was driven and competitive but that she does take time to get completely away from her work--she definitely seems different--both from the persona she has on the shows and from the other 3 women. She seemed to be more interested in talking about the big $ jobs she's done, etc. I felt like Mina and Jasmine, who are both GC's and who did not have formal design backgrounds before going into this kind of work--seemed more similar in their personalities--still working to build their business---Mina talked about the fact that a lot of her family now works in their business so she feels really responsible for making it work so they all have their jobs. I wish HGTV would pick up that Philly Revival show from DIY--I read an interview that they are on hold and don't know if they will be renewed because the networks are not sure yet what the new Magnolia network is going to be doing yet. I feel like that designer would have been a good fit for this show and would have been more enjoyable to watch than Alison. I am just not sure why they are so invested in her--between her personality and her business issues. I just caught up with episodes and I have no idea who will win this show---none of the overall designs blew me away. Some features in all of them are nice, but really I would not be able to pick one whole house that I think is the best. I agree that Mina is out of her zone --she works with much more modest properties and budgets, and I think a lot of the decor stuff on her show must come from Karen--the staging/furnishing she's done seems to be really basic (which in the real world would probably be fine). Her rooms have been ok--nothing wrong, but none of them have stood out for me. Except for adding the pool, I feel the same about Jasmine's altho I think she has a better feel for California style.
  17. The realtor/builder judges from Fla evidently have a new show on HGTV--90 Day Dream House. There is an episode online at HGTV under HGTV Sneak peaks. It looks like it aired originally in April. No idea when the show will start. https://www.abcactionnews.com/tampa-bay-couple-hosts-new-hgtv-show-90-day-dream-home I also watched the interview show with Orlando--it was interesting- Alison does TM? Also glad to see that the partner on her show is not her boyfriend---they showed a pic of her with her real boyfriend and it is not that red haired guy. Also liked hearing more about Leanne--she was in fashion before someone asked her to design their house. She seems way more laid-back than I expected. Orlando does a really good job with the interviews.
  18. I am just watching this---usually with design shows I am left wishing shows were longer and showed more details, but for some reason both of the episodes I've watched so far seem sooooo long. Maybe they should have done 3 designers or something. I've never watched Hidden Potential, but Jasmine seems nice and I like some of her stuff so I will give her a try. Leanne's house looks like she's designing for Kim and Kanye. https://www.google.com/search?q=kim+and+kanye+white+home&tbm=isch&source=univ&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiOqsj2gMzlAhXMtlkKHQ-8AugQ7Al6BAgEECQ&biw=1536&bih=758 I like to look at homes like that but I would never feel comfortable in one--I need more "stuff".

This looks a lot like Fixer Upper but in Arkansas. https://www.latimes.com/business/real-estate/story/2019-11-01/hgtv-fixer-fabulous-walmart-reality-realty
  20. Aw, well, I'm happy for Karen to be able to retire and do what she wants to do, but I've enjoyed her on the show, so I will miss seeing her. Glad she'll pop in with her projects when she wants to.
  21. I don't think I've ever seen the actor who played the doorman--but he was exceptional in this.
  22. On the last episode, I wish they'd kept more of the natural wood---maybe the beams and I'd like to have seen some kind of natural wood outside---I'm a little bored with all the black houses. I liked that it seemed like they used some of the owner's own stuff (or at least it seemed like they did). I can never think how it would be to move into a home with ALL new stuff and none of my stuff--or they take out all the staging stuff and put in all my old stuff. The one thing I liked a lot was the way they stained the wood wall in the master that dark green--it was different and it added something new to all the wood.
  23. My thing is that if they are contractors as well as designers why they are not doing more through inspections--they knew there was an issue with the most recent tear down so why not look more thoroughly into why before committing? In terms of finishes or materials, I suspect because they do involve the owners in the final designs, that when more money is on the line, they go back to them and say---you can either have your fancy tile, and it costs $x,00 and we go over budget, or we need more money, and the people go borrow more or whatever. If it was someone with less money, like the single foster mom, I bet she would compromise on something attractive but less costly. I am not sure about sponsors donating, etc--I'm sure that happens, especially with well known shows, but this show is a first time one so I'm not sure if they get freebies.
