  1. I didn't love Shifting Gears but I was better than I was expecting. I think they did a pretty good job of explaining why she wasn't thrilled with him. His grandfather was an idiot for not formalizing his wishes in a will but I didn't think her irritation was out of nowhere and he even seemed to hold some guilt over the situation even if he wasn't in control of it.
  2. Pronunciation is the purpose the accent serves. As I learned when I was abroad, sometimes it's just easier to let the native speakers pronounce my name the way they want to rather than trying to get the correct pronunciation from them. (It's why Timothée Chalamet goes by Timothy even though his actual name would be pronounced Teemotay. His dad is French but he lives in the US.) It's unfair but if he hadn't already lost me with the hat in the kitchen, he would have completely lost me once he announced his girlfriend's name was Kale. Even if it isn't something she chose but rather her parents loving greens, I still reject it.
  3. My thoughts exactly. Nolan wasn't a good prosecutor at all if he couldn't get a conviction or at least a hung jury with this case in NYC. He basically just gave up once the "surprise" witness came forward and let her ramble about things he assumed and even things she thought the defendant assumed. If he wants to talk about what he assumed, he can get on the witness stand. I was on Baxter's side. The facts, as presented, pointed to murder even without the testimony of the undercover cop---and we don't even know what he knew. I feel like this was even ripped from the headlines a bit. Jarrod Carmichael is a successful comic who recently came out in his great special Rothaniel.
  4. She was a bit of a brat going after her friends for not lying about things they didn't see but also claiming she's not asking them to lie. It's not like Chim can smell things he didn't smell. I can't wait until next week when the show is going to pretend that everyone who got on the lifeboats survived cruise-ship-high waves that overturned a much bigger ship.
  5. I think that's part of the joke surrounding "taking care" of his daughter and selling the violin. It's not that he couldn't suddenly die but he stood a pretty good chance of not only pulling through this medical crisis but retaining much/all of his cognitive function.
  6. Based on the way they described how the grandmother tried to be the mother to her son's child, she struck me as quite overbearing. The daughter-in-law likely pushed back because that's not the way she grew up but the son probably had years of conforming to her desires. Once he left the police station after the confrontation, she could work on him. Yeah but it's not like it was a license plate. It was an after market effect which I'm sure wasn't exclusive to her truck. And they drove past her house and said to the guy "do you recognize any vehicles?" I think it would have been better to show him a few pictures of similar looking trucks and have him point it out.
  7. I don't think Garrett's absence is as a law enforcement figure, specifically. If that's all it was, then Paris (I refer to as Paris even though I never watched Gilmore Girls) would be fine. The issue is that her relationship was strictly with Garrett. They have to develop her connection to the rest of the cast as much as they have to do the same with the Sin Cara crew. That's why I said I think it's difficult.
  8. They're keeping Arman alive because at the time they filmed this, everyone was hoping Adan Canto would beat his cancer and return to the show. He didn't die until later in production. But I also wonder if they regret killing off Garret. It's tough to lose two main characters on a show with basically only 5.
  9. I thought for sure it was the girlfriend when I saw her because she looked thin and seemed like she could have been the figure in the security feed. But then their alibis cleared and we learned more about Joanna. (I guess the son could still have been involved but I don't think he would have caved about his mom if he were. ) I wonder if the son even fought for custody or if there just wasn't any money left once the mother needed to put up a defense*. *I am a little surprised they got a conviction. The evidence felt rather flimsy. He seemed more upset in the Dateline interview he did years later. But all we get is a quick snapshot of the interviews and he might have been numb or felt in control during that moment. Not everyone cries a lot. I think I've said before that I don't and I hope I'm never suspected of murder on Dateline because you'd all declare me guilty because of how unusually I react to death. Seriously, I think I cried once, alone, right after my dad died and never again and had to control myself from not laughing out loud during my uncle's funeral when everyone else was crying. I'm a psychopath, y'all, just not one inclined to murder.
  10. I don't think anyone is expecting the show to care about the woman's privacy which is why Jimmy told Chelsea off-camera, asked her not to mention it on-camera and felt betrayed when she brought it up during an on-camera argument.
  11. I wanted to love it because I love Paris but I watch these in the background and I still don't think I could tell you who was murdered. And I did think it was ridiculous you'd have two French people speak to one another in English and yet they'd also start randomly using French phrases with the English speaker. The culprit did surprise me though. I'd watch another given the setting.
  12. Don't Trevor and Jeramy make even more sense? (And really, Jimmy, Johnny and Jeramy is just a casting fail in terms of names. )
  13. There were things I liked about it and things I didn't. I think it would have been more interesting if Athena started having a bit of panic about being cooped up after she got on the ship instead of being cooped up with Bobby. I'm sure she wouldn't be the first to think a cruise sounds like a good idea only to feel a bit cooped up by the fact that you can only go so far. I feel like we've seen something similar with Christopher related to his mother before so that felt like a retread even if I liked his scenes with Buck and Oliver. But I did like the relationship theme of the rescues.
  14. It sounds like the S1 people (or at least couples) are moving away from the franchise. I recently read that Lauren said that their contract with Netflix ended and she didn't really watch the show any longer.
  15. Joe Manganiello surprised me. He wasn't just good. He was out of this world at times. He had almost telepathic connections with the contestants. And he got so many of the final passwords with the contestants. I feel bad for the second contestant because Jimmy was just bad.
  16. And if I remember correctly, we saw Peppermint's reaction and it was a nothingburger, IMO. A nothingburger that Trishelle blew up. She came into The Traitors with a reputation of being the queen of microaggressions because of what she did in The Challenge. The way she reacted to Peppermint is just a continuation of that, especially since she went after Peppermint first. Being around a lot of different people doesn't prevent someone from performing acts of microaggression.
  17. None have broken out big but I don't know that Clark Duke has had a better career than Jake McDornan (who has lead or co-lead a few series), Scott Michael Foster (been a series regular in other things), Amber Stevens West (also a series regular in other things, or Paul James (has had regular series roles recently.)
  18. I think it'd depend on whether or not the prosecution opted to go to trial or not. They did seem to be losing evidence. I will say that they were unclear about how much they pushed her. Prosecutors might have met with her more often to see if she still stuck with her alibi which may have led to her cracking a bit. And she might have gotten cold feet once she realized she would have to testify to the alibi under oath.
  19. One "benefit" of all-start seasons is that you could make that claim about 100% of the celebs and be right. To regular people playing the game, the money likely matters quite a bit. To the celebs, it probably doesn't matter all that much. They're doing this to be on TV. Peppermint's point is that it's easy to target someone different, under the guise of game play. I doubt anyone consciously decided to go after her because she was a trans woman* but quite a few felt very comfortable targeting her first as "suspicious" and may not actually question why that is. *Although Trishelle, apparently has developed a reputation during The Challenge competitions of targeting minorities.
  20. But was she loyal to them? Or did she just not target them because there were other people she was voting out? I don't think MJ played with strategy or an alliance. If she had, she would have considered that CT and Trishelle were competitive and would want to "win" as much as they could and likely were more loyal to one another than they would be to her. That wouldn't be the case with Kate, Sandra, and an MJ alliance.
  21. This was filmed in NY recently. I think last week or two weeks ago. So it has been months. I don't know his history but he even demonstrated his emotional side in this episode with his trying to make it seem like he was murdered just because the traitors were afraid of him. That certainly didn't sound to me like he respected "the game" aspect of it. Didn't he ask this? I seem to recall people raising their hands that they hadn't suspected Phaedra until Dan threw her name out at the banishment ceremony...although someone (maybe Sandra or Peter?) said she started to get suspicious just before that ceremony because both Phaedra and Parvati said something about Peter being a bloodhound (or something similar) and this person thought it was strange they both used the same terms.
  22. I don't know CT (or really any of the celebs beyond a passing recognition in some cases) but I'd find this easier to believe if it were about anyone but MJ. There's no way I'd believe she'd be able to pull off the traitor role. It feels like she's pure emotion and if Kate's behavior gave things away, then MJ would have had a zillion tells.
  23. I'd agree with this if he hadn't already made so many boneheaded decisions as a traitor that ultimately doomed his own game. I don't think it out of pettiness. I do think he thought he was smarter than he was with his stuff like "looking 10 steps into the future" stuff he was trying to claim in the reunion. I don't buy CT didn't know that Kate was the traitor. I suspect he recognized the numbers.
  24. From what I recall: The episode surprised me a bit more than I thought it would. MJ's reaction when CT and Trishelle voted to hold another vote was gold. Voting out Sandra was so dumb on her part and I didn't feel bad for her one bit. Even if Sandra were a traitor, she should have seen the CT and Trishelle alliance coming. But Trishelle choosing to vote out CT during the first vote legit surprised me.
