  1. There was also hints at blackmail and knowing where the bodies are buried. For her, that was literal. They never said what she could possibly know about her neighbors. That's why I said above the ending felt abrupt.
  2. I was thinking it had Only Murders In The Building vibes too.
  3. I wouldn't call it bloated. In the original L&O, there have always been 6 main characters. 3 from the law side and 3 from the order side, although the supervising characters (lieutenant and elected DA) had smaller roles than the two detectives, ADA and assistant to the ADA. But since they didn't really go deep into their personal lives, all the screen time is usually related to the case they're working on. But you're right, it's not based on a book series and it really wasn't interested in exploring the psyche of the characters. Over the course of many seasons, you learned about the main characters through their relationship to the cases or bits of conversation they'd throw in while on a stakeout but they rarely showed us their home lives. This show has been the opposite from the beginning. It's centered on Trent and they like to tell stories about his background. And usually, I'm okay with that. The thing I didn't like about this episode is that both stories related back to personal history. The case about Amanda was personal. Then we also have to deal with Ormewood's home life. I don't hate that story as much as others do but they could have given it a rest in this episode. If they do more personal stories, I prefer when the B story is more procedural in nature.
  4. I'm guessing they wanted as little contact to avoid suspicion. Plus, it didn't have to be her dog that found the wrench. But this episode did feel a little rushed. However, I loved Jane Krakowski.
  5. I loved Fast Foodies.
  6. The showrunner and Oliver Stark have been doing interviews about tonight's episode. They have similar quotes so I'll just leave this one link here. https://www.thewrap.com/911-show-season-7-episode-4-tim-minear-oliver-star-interview/
  7. The creator has been doing some interviews about what's to come. I'll spoiler tag a summary of what he has said and post the link in the media thread.
  8. I kind of wish I weren't so chronically online. I saw someone mention something about rumors about this episode and couldn't stop myself from going to Reddit to see what the rumors were. I was definitely expecting it by the time I watched it. It would have been more fun to be surprised. Yep. But ever since the first season, I do think, romantically at least, Buck is more about vibes than anything else. I'd almost describe him as pan. I still think Buck and Eddie shippers might end up feeling trolled as I do not think they're going to go all in with them. I suppose it's possible the show could two later season bi reveals but I'd still bet against it. It's going to be fun to watch this play out. As for Harry, it's not the same actor. The creator claims the other actor wanted to move on. I don't know if that's true but this is a recast, although they're about the same age. This one just looks older. Yes. He has appeared in the 3 of the "begin" episodes including Hen's, Chim's and Bobby's. ETA: As a side note, those women lusting after the fireman? Do they want to be cut in the first night?
  9. I especially loved how she swore in reaction to how much she loved Michelle's dish. It's a free style that I don't recall Padma having and it will help define her. I agree that it's possible, maybe even probable they would have chosen a different top 3 but I do remember them liking those dishes. I do think the bottom 3 were their bottom 3 but it's also possible that the diners' least favorite dish wasn't Kenny's. If Manny were going to leave cheese curds unchanged, then he should have made something cold to take advantage of the squeak.
  10. No but I don't think he ever did feel conflicted. He wanted to help/work with someone last week. It was his mother who put the kibosh on that. I felt sorry, a tid, for the nurses. They had victory right in their grasp but their lack of Spanish cost them. I had to laugh when Ricky and Cesar were talking about what helped them stay strong this round. All the things they said were good but, in this case, it was literally the ability to communicate with the locals. After that, they got to "con permiso" their way to the pit stop. I like them a lot and think they're running a good race but so far, they're also a little lucky their skills have also happened to nicely align with the tasks.
  11. I thought this episode was pretty strong. I found myself laughing out loud most during this episode than others in the season. I especially like how Larry was feeling thrown about having slept with someone who is now a man but, other than a brief comment by Jeff, the people in the room were unfazed by that fact. Instead, they were obsessed with the fact that Larry's a floor fucker. And why he did that. The actress isn't Vietnamese. Her name is Tania Gunudi She's from Indonesia and moved to the US when she was a teenager. Her real voice does have a slight accent, although she likely exaggerated it for the show.
  12. Did both seasons air? I've seen it before but I thought I'd rewatch it but it looks like my YouTube TV only recorded the first season.
  13. I only recognized Phaedra because of The Traitors but she and another guest star, Shamea Morton*, got special position in the credits. Plus, I remember seeing something in my feed about housewives guest starring so I'm assuming the other one was a housewife. But I'm pretty sure the assistant character wasn't a reality star but rather a regular actress playing a reality star. *Yes, I had to Google it. :) And in doing so, apparently, Shamea's actually an actress too but appearas as a "friend" on RHOA. The more you know.
  14. That's a great podcast, especially after it gets going. I do think it displayed Fallon's rumored moodiness because I don't think his issue is smarts (although I do think the other guys probably know more things--but Fallon is quick too), but rather he seemed kind of checked out in earlier episodes. Once he engaged more fully, the podcast improved. But the amazing mess that he ended up creating in Ep. 5 either showed us why his producers are so important or was a brilliantly intentional disaster. Either way, it was one of my favorite podcast episodes I've ever listened to. The contestants in the latest episode were so frustrating at their guessing half of the response. Also frustrating was for none of the clue givers to just say "combine" as a clue. I get that it's hard in front of the lights compared to my couch but I did think it was hilarious. At least they were evenly matched.
  15. I'm pretty sure she was an actual actress. The real housewives got very little screen time.
  16. I think what was surprising is that she didn't just leave Ormewood but left their children as well. The note said they were at the neighbor's house. If she were just going to leave him, as in divorcing him, I suspect she would have asked him to leave the house.
  17. I don't think Soo is an alternate. Since this show lives on streaming, they could have easily waited until the third week to start it. I suspect Soo was the plan all the long to do something different and it's why I expect him to show up in week 5 or 6--just to see the chefs go "who's that?"
  18. I didn't really agree with his take there. Putting them into two groups who had to work together basically gave them the impression they'd be presenting competing tasting menus. Usually in tasting menus, the courses are small and that's what they gave them. The whole experience isn't something they normally think about when working on their own. I believe an Iron Chef episode had "hops" as a secret ingredient. I know I've seen it once before. I ate at the Driftless Cafe this summer so it was exciting to see the chef/owner at the table.
  19. Awwww, I'm a bit bummed about Julian. He was a scamp and a con man but I enjoyed him nevertheless. One thing I liked about 9-1-1 was a relatively low body count. I hope they don't change that at ABC. It might be unrealistic, but I enjoy few deaths.
  20. They do get residuals but Phil wasn't just a writer. He was the creator. Every time the show gets sold into reruns or a foreign adaptation is made, he gets paid. He's working with the same production company as Anthony Bourdain's travel show. I do think he likes working with his family on this but I don't think that's the reason he does the show. I was just reading an article about his choice to do the show. After Everyone Loves Raymond, he was looking at what to do next and he felt like he could combine traveling with filming. And thus, the show was born. I'm half way through the Dubai episode. Kyoto really was magical. I've never felt compelled to travel to Japan but Kyoto flipped that switch. I have to admit that I feel a little Iceland-d out because it feels like everyone is going there or filming there but this show has a way of making everything look exceptional and I started to love it again. I really like the approach they're taking with Dubai since there are so many immigrants there. It's a way to travel to many different countries they might not otherwise visit. I can't decide if the dropped most expensive hamburger was real or a bit.
  21. I loved the cooking challenge. It's not a physically daunting challenge but cooking in the same kitchen really brings out a certain dynamic in couples that they might not experience anywhere else. They can be super supportive everywhere else but at each other's throats in the kitchen. Didn't Derek say he's not allowed in the kitchen while Shelisa is cooking? I'm happy Ricky and Cesar won the challenge. It really seemed crafted for them. Language skills. Professional cooking skills. I bet they saved a lot of time at the cooking challenge because of that.
  22. I hope they decide to renew Mrs. Sidhu investigates. That was my favorite Acorn series in a long time.
  23. She's on for about 30 seconds so if you feel like watching, her part is really easy to skip. Heck, the whole plot is pretty easy to skip.
  24. No announcement yet. I hope it gets a third season. The writing might not be top-tier calibre yet but I do think it has improved from the first season. But one area where it absolutely did hit it out of the park this season is with the guest cast. They landed some big comedy guest stars. They're not necessarily big names but they're the type of comedic actors who typically deliver if there's anything there to deliver and even sometimes when there's nothing.
  25. On American TV they do but I've always assumed the UK contracts are shorter as there has historically been more cast turnover in the British shows I've watched that last beyond 3 seasons than American shows. Some have been mentioned above but there has also been Ben Miller (or any detective) from Death In Paradise, the clergy in Grantchester, Nicola Walker in Unforgotten, and the biggie, Dan Stevens from Downton Abbey. I just heard about his departure being permanent and I've read some discussion of his departure online to cope but one thing I don't recall seeing come up is that family logistics might have played a big part in his decision. For one, he's married to a working actress and they have two kids. Then, there's the fact that production moved from Dublin in the first season to Belgrade, Serbia for the subsequent seasons. If his wife and kids are London-based, travel between Dublin and London was probably much easier than traveling to Serbia. He might have gotten tired of it after three seasons. And if that's the case, I'm slightly hopeful we'll see him again. One place I don't agree with Lucy's article that William leaving abandons the premise of the show. It might diverge from the title and logline she described but the show did that as early as Season 1. It was pretty clear from early on that the show was centered around Eliza and her relationships. She was the lead and everyone else, even the Duke, was supporting. Another place I disagree is that no one would have watched it if it were just a Victorian lady detective show. That's not true. I liked the sexual tension but I would have watched the show without it. As for a possible new love interest or new character, they could have kept the title if they had just brought in a character who is actually a duke.
