  1. Glad to see UM back. While I do miss Stack’s voice-overs and intros, I like the extended format that allows them to go more in depth on each story rather than rushing through four in one hour. As for the first season…. Without a doubt, ep.1 “Mystery on the Rooftop,” the Rey Rivera story is the most intriguing and compelling. It’s not just what happened to him but how, where, when, and why and sorting through the pieces and trying to determine what clues are relevant and what are red herrings. Would love to see a follow-up episode where specific viewer questions are answered in more depth by experts who have since reviewed the case, especially on some forensic angles, much like how the note was sent off to the FBI for analysis which deemed it not a suicide note, to which I agree. It’s cryptic, no doubt, but given his background in film/screenplay it makes me strongly suspect it had meaning to Rey, and not in a losing touch with reality way, but in a coded, word association way of someone who is smart and creative. On that note, I don’t believe he committed suicide or was suffering major mental illness that his entire family was blind to and in denial over for more than a decade now. No, instead I found his wife and brother very genuine. They are still grieving, but the wound is not fresh, and they’ve had time for reflection. They want closure and they want answers, rightfully so. There are just too many unexplained angles and dots not connected to find the police investigation satisfactory, alongside strong indicators of foul play. What I take away from this article on Porter, Rey’s “friend” and employer, is just how suspicious he continues to be. His refusal to cooperate in the investigation where the last call Rey ever received before abruptly leaving his house that night came from Porter’s own company, and his decision to not participate in the UM show years later does not reflect the actions of a caring longtime friend nor a non-complicit party. His quotes and comments point to an entitled narcissistic individual. (“’It’s horrific,’ Stansberry said. ‘You can’t even imagine what it’s like to tell people I had nothing to do with my friend’s death.’” Translation it’s all about me. Forget what Rey’s wife and family have gone through.) And his touting of the mental illness explanation, one I wouldn’t put past an individual with access to power or simply minions with social medical accounts like himself to perpetuate, have the earmarks of gas lighting. He’s crazy; I’m not guilty. I’m not lying, they are, says the man found guilty of lying to clients to increase his profits. (“After a trial in 2005, U.S. District Judge Marvin Garbis ruled in 2007 that ‘Stansberry’s conduct undoubtedly involved deliberate fraud, making statements that he knew to be false,’”). Porter seems to have found a scapegoat or talking bite with mental illness, and if he can make the sell then the attention shifts away from him and his company cohorts who were all conveniently away at a company retreat the night of the incident??? I wouldn’t be surprised if he even starts a Rey Rivera fund for mental health, but I’d be as skeptical of its motives as a man selling snake oil. While it’s true that narratives have an angle and UM’s is to captivate an audience for a hour of television and leave the viewer pondering the possibilities so they come back for and attract more (i.e. ratings and Netflix subscriptions), that doesn’t exempt Porter’s participation in the Baltimore Sun (would be curious if his company has any ties to the paper) article from having its own agendas. At the most innocent, it’s simply a PR tool for him in his attempt to do damage control for a company whose own social media pages have attracted new followers and not the kind who are looking to be new clients. At the worst, it’s another manipulation technique in a dangerous game that Rey may have stumbled upon, walked into, or quite possibly decide to expose. Rey was dealing with some anxieties; that seems easily agreed upon. But just because you’re afraid of the dark doesn’t mean there’s nothing in the dark that won’t get you. As far as the other stories in the first season, I’m kinda surprised UM didn’t tackle more of the stranger assertions in the “House of Horror” case. (Like neighbors who swear they saw members of the family days after their suspected demise.) There are quite some interesting speculations out there on this one that would have been interesting to see explored further. Personally, I thought the execution of this episode fell a little flat, despite a ghastly story that had many ambiguous elements. Agree that “No Ride Home” story is certainly a hate crime, quite solvable if someone in that podunk town would summon some integrity and tell what they know of that night. Even a few credible detailed anonymous tips to the FBI might even crack the case and finally provide some semblance of closure and delayed justice. The odds are that there are multiple witnesses and many accessories and/or accessories after the fact. I also agree that the mother in the “Missing Witness” story should have been tried with a good chance of conviction by a jury. Plenty of prosecutorial cases built on less have found convictions. “13 Minutes”—Boy that small, rural town sure attracts a lot of serial killers. Though this might be one of the few stories featured where the local law enforcement came across not only as unbiased, but truly concerned with finding justice and closure for the victim and her loved ones. “Berkshires UFO”—I couldn’t decide if I was watching Unsolved Mysteries or an audition for a remake of Soundgarten’s “Black Hole Sun” video.😀
  2. Definitely too much repetition. She slept, she woke, she walked; we got it already! But also when I think about Perdita sleeping with her sister's husband who is also their cousin...
  3. Orpheus's retort that death parting Ben & Ciara didn't take long--he always has the best lines. I love his snarky bad assery.
  4. This sounds way more interesting than last week's snoozefest. If Rolf and Orpheus cause mayhem I'm all for it. But please tell me Clyde isn't Allie's baby daddy though. lol
  5. Kayla (as a doctor) performing a DNA test without consent or a court order seems both unethical, illegal, and out of character for her. Nicole, on the other hand, that's right up her alley. That being said, I give Kayla points for being the first character to clue into an idea that should have been obvious the second Tripp said he never slept with Allie. Speaking of Nicole, I can't decide if I've been more distracted by her hair, Oompa-Loompa face tan, or that dress that looks like doilies dyed in raspberry kool-aid, for the last two days. I must admit I kinda like Marlena frustrated and irritated with John. Got a kick out of her escorting him out of Kayla's. It's more entertaining than the rinse-repeat of her in danger, John recues her, they reunite, and get along swimmingly till the next threat. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's been pondering that. At certain angles it distinctly looked like a baby bump as her abdomen appeared rounded but no other weight gain across the midsection. There was also another day a few weeks back where I thought she was wearing a loose/heavy in the front maternity top or dress and questioned if the actress was expecting.
  6. That always bugged me too that Marlena's plane went down at the hands of Orpheus, but her absence was explained at the hands of Stefano. Like did Orpheus and Stefano have neighboring islands and she escaped one to crash on the other? Or Stefano had a secret job as an air traffic controller and waved the plane down to capture her? 😀 The overuse of Stefano made his character a joke while the show missed opportunities to have a multitude of villains and better mysteries/suspense. Incidentally have they ever said what happened to Orpheus's sister-in-law Olivia?
  7. I noticed both and was wondering too whether JKJ messed up his line or that was a clue. I thought Bo and Isabella were the only two sibling that Philip shared a father with, and they're both dead.
  8. While I agree Marlena in distress is a repeat that's been airing practically on a loop since the '80s, I'm just glad to have Orpheus and his delightfully snarky comments back. (If only he could get his old wardrobe back too.) But I do love when he insults and one ups the Salemites. Also pull the trigger, Rolf! Pull the trigger!
  9. I liked EJ. I miss EJ. But I do not blame James Scott for writing off Days for good. I'm not entirely surprised either given interviews where he expressed his displeasure about how the show treat Joe Mascola at various times as well as the writing. And he has my sympathies after that gag-worthy storyline where he was stuck w/Kate Mansi for the last year he was on. The writers crapped on the Sami/EJ fans. It's pretty bad when the actors went on another show to give their fans the HEA they wanted. Honestly, I don't really understand why AS keeps coming back if her last stint was any indication. Sami's character has become a dumping ground for half of Salem to blame their problems while acting high and mighty as if their shit doesn't stink. Nick was an interesting character. I really wish they would have brought him back along w/Charlotte Ross. Instead they screwed over the character of Eve from the day KDP walked on set and it's only gotten worse since.
  10. Agree! They have time to kill. This would have been a fitting time to break out the old scenes. Maybe even have some of the other actors (SN, MBE, DH, DH, BB, MM, etc.) who have filmed with her over the years introduce the clips, comment on them (sharing antidotes and memories) and give good-bye well wishes to Kristin. I've been assuming it was supposed to be a character trait/quirk. One that will hopefully be explained and maybe even resolved via Marlena hypnosis. None the less, I wouldn't deny it's distracting and grating. And about to be problematic in a covid era.
  11. I know Days's budget sucks balls these days but I can't understand how pricey it would be for them to add a little background music to enhance the scenes. There used to be a really cool one back in the '80's that wasn't much more than piano notes but it was supper creepy. Not to mention back then there was this horn they used for Orpheus''s theme that didn't sound complex either. I feel like they could take up a collection among the cast or set up a damn go-fund me page for the fans to contribute to a better quality show. 😀 I love this idea. Even if it was the 'best of' (super couples, major villains, specific adventure storylines, funniest lines etc.) and they had to edit out major theme songs, although I thought Steve and Kayla's "If You Heart Comes Out Tonight" was specifically written for them and thus Days should have the rights.
  12. No, Emma was Shane's first wife. Eve's mother was Shane's ISA partner, Gabrielle, who I personally always thought Shane had more chemistry with than Kim. I can kinda see Jack as a drunken frat boy. Would be hilarious if Days attempted a flashback with that. lol I could never decide if Days deserved credit for thinking outside the box on that one where instead of a typical who's your daddy storyline, they make it who's your mommy. Or if it was just utterly ridiculous that Shane couldn't remember who he was sleeping with at the time, especially considering he looked at Gabrielle every day at "work." Seems like it should have triggered a 'hey I saw you naked' flashback a lot sooner than it did.
  13. Agree MM certainly channeled "Queen Abigail" in her performance today. Can't wait till Gwen makes her life miserable. As for Kristin & Lani, agree there too. But does anyone else think the Eli just deleted a pretty good chance for an insanity defense plea? Kristin's statement that she doesn't even remember grabbing the knife certainly sounded like it was an option. And it's not like a good therapy program wouldn't benefit Kristin. I figure they screwed over Steve & Kayla with that Ava crap and now Steve has a kid to her, Jack and Jennifer are certainly fair game. Maybe Gwen's mom is Emma Donovan. Rolf brought her back from the dead (hence how Gwen knows him), and Jack had a drunken club night in London all those years ago just like Allie. LOL I'm sure I'm dreaming, but Jane Windsor gave some great performances back in the day. She'd be fun to have back.
  14. Lord help the actress who plays Gwen if the scenes today were post-Covid's arrival. She must have had those fingers in her mouth a dozen or more times. Yuk. Go for it Rolf!!
  15. While I can't stand Gwen and Jake as a couple--they are just utterly toxic, I could become Gweny's biggest fan if she drags Abs through the Dimera tunnels by the hair and makes the Dimera House of Horrors live up to its name, torturing that smug, dorky Chad at the same time. (Bonus points if KM returns for that scene as it's her portrayal of Abs that made me hate her so much.) And maybe it will give Nicole something new to gossip about too.
  16. I wonder if Joey will catch a ride with Rolf, Orpheus, and Clyde when they break out. 😀I can see the reunion now. Steve: *shakes head in disapproval* "Son, what did I tell you about hitchhiking?" And while he's out, I hope Joey kills Ava again while she's back from the dead. (Assuming her return isn't a dream nightmare segment.)
  17. I'll freely admit I tend to root for the villains (always seem smarter than the so-called heroes and heroines these days to me) so I'm super psyched about this one. Orpheus and Rolf would be comedic gold together so I hope they finally utilize them together. https://soapdirt.com/days-of-our-lives-spoilers-orpheus-rolf-clyde-sketchy-prison-break-salem-in-danger/
  18. I seem to recall the pier (though slightly different) popped up again around the time of the Necktie Killer and Chad being hypnotized, maybe??? I was only about "half" watching then. Agree, the fake greenery and astroturf grass of the park is awful. I feel as if Days should avoid it as much as possible unless they plan on hosting Brady Bunch style tay sack races. Poor Bo who had to die there. Convenient for Hope though since the cemetery is only steps away. I've never really liked Horton Town Square because I can never figure out if it's supposed to be outside or partially enclosed. It gets far too much use in the winter months for me to not side eye it being a completely outdoor area. Even the pier used to get fake snow around the holidays and people would stand around shivering and blowing on their hands to stay warm. But at the town square they bop around like it's an indoor shopping mall. Oh yes, I remember thinking that too about the pier too. It was supposed to be in a not so great section of Salem, near the Brady Fish market, Emergency Center, and probably Kayla's loft, but the way everyone just took casual strolls there it appeared to also be near the hospital and every other set in town. I still remember Alice in her jogging suit doing a morning power walk, which seemed like an odd place for an old lady to exercise given the the beat-downs, stabbings, and kidnappings that took place down there. But now I'm kinda nostalgic for it and the 'ding ding' bell and foghorn that was always heard. Surely Days still has the budget for that generic background soundtrack.
  19. THIS! I've been back watching about 7 months and I'm still not sure where Jack & Jennifer live. They are always at the Dimera Mansion which seem ridiculously out of character, not to mention hypocritical given how much I recall Jenn shaming Sami for living there w/EJ. I'm also still scratching my head why Hope's den is like a 1 room house. And I roll my eyes at the number of grown adults still mooching living at the Kiriakis mansion and the number of advisories living at Shay Dimera, a supposedly huge house yet everyone uses the same rooms. I also have to think that the Salem Inn must have monthly rates akin to a cheap motel the way that Ciara and Ben moved in and never left. I wonder if a gift certificate to there was on their wedding registry? I never thought I'd say this but I think I actually miss the Salem pier. It was completely overused back in the 80's but hey at least it made more sense to have clandestine meetings there (fog) or conduct murders as opposed to the not very family friendly Salem park in walking distance of town square shopping center.
  20. Agree! Harper's reveal as the Riverfront Knifer and deranged monologue on the roof with Kim and a deaf Kayla was some good stuff back then. That was a great time period when Stefano was off screen, and there were a multitude of bad guys and villains who kept things interesting. Dr. Hopkins, Orpheus, Philip and Serena Colville, Britta. I do wish Days could actually write a good mystery storyline again.
  21. I can't help but think if the cast did their own wardrobe, they might dress better. Mary Beth Evans for example usually looks nicer in real life than some of the frumpy, unflattering dresses/skirts they put her in. And I assume Kristin Alfonso can match unlike some of the color/pattern clashes that Hope has worn in the last few months. What baffles me is why they use a casting change to change wardrobe styles. It's hard enough to get used to a new actor/actress in a role, but worse when you're distracted by them dressing different. NuAbs seems to have returned from the looney bin with a collection of high necked Little House on the Prairie inspired floral dresses. And NuClaire stopped shopping at Hookers R Us (or maybe it's Gabbie Chic since she dresses the same way) and started stocking up on those too big chunky sweaters from the '80s. Maybe she dug them out of Grandma Marlena's attic, but all I could think when she first came on screen is that it must be really cold in Salem in August.
  22. Been back watching a few months. Not even sure why I'm still watching. Last few days though, this Allie/Tripp storyline is driving me nuts. Not only does it affirm that the writers' sexual politics are just awful and shame worthy in this day and age, but the storyline and their ensuing conversations are ridiculously frustrating. Anyone with a brain (which I realize the majority of the characters seem to lack) could settle this with one simple suggestion, "Let's do a DNA test!" It certainly shouldn't be a foreign concept for Nicole who excels at both clandestinely conducting them and sticking her nose where it doesn't belong. There's no valid reason why both Tripp and Allie wouldn't want one, since both are convinced at the moment that they are right. This storyline would be different if Tripp had consented that they did have sex and the question was consent, but when he claims they didn't even bump uglies it seems like the next logical step would be to test the kid that Allie believes is her proof that they did. The sooner the better so they can get on with what I fear will be a revolving door of people who probably entered her apartment that night so we have a list of possible perpetrators that they will drag out for months only in the end for it to turn out to be someone never on screen before. Or Orpheus. 😒
  23. I kinda feel the same way about Shirley confessing the affair. It alleviated her guilt, sure. But then it put tremendous pressure on Kevin to forgive her. Still not a healthy marital situation. Seems it would have been better for Shirley to deal with her issues through therapy. I would have liked to see Nell and Arthur reunited as well. It almost seemed like his death was connected to the house even if he didn't die there. I too found the presentations of the ghosts a little murky, conflicting. Nell seems enlightened in death. Most of the rest of the ghosts do not. I can't help but read a little critique of religion in the whole thing. Olivia, influenced by Poppy (the ethereal evangelist), believes they will be safe and together in death, free of the real world's dangers, much like the promise of heaven. Mrs. Dudley suggests to young Steven that knowledge and belief in the gospels offer protection, but that doesn't save her own daughter. Interestingly, in the end the Dudley's choose the house for eternal life. If I was an English major once again I'm sure I could craft an analysis paper on that theme/topic and keep going ;-) I also have a question. When Hugh was being interrogated by the police, the police officer mentioned the other body. That had to be Abigail. But, in the last episode, it is revealed that Hugh let the Dudley’s take the child out of the house and bury her. So there is a disconnect there or I missed something. Having just re-watched the first episode, in the scene where Steven is with his dad and the attorney (the scene where Hugh says he wants the house left alone and the only people there to be the Dudleys) Hugh also states/confirms that he was not charged or arrested. It appears the custody dispute was between Hugh and Aunt Janet. I'm going to assume Janet, Olivia's sister, felt Hugh was not suitable to raise the kids after Olivia died on his watch, so to speak. No doubt, she resented him for it. I also think the body that the cop refers to is the Tall Man who buried himself in the walls.
  24. I have to respectfully disagree here. I see a huge distinction between the fact that the Harmons are only in and exposed to the house for a short period of time. Prior to that Vivian and Ben have lead lived "normal" lives in terms of growing up, education, careers, etc. They have years of experience in the world void of a supernatural influence. In contrast, Take has had a really f*cked up upbringing and has been influenced or affected by this house and its influence on his family his entire life. He doesn't really know anything beyond it since he dies before he's even an adult. So it's just logical that he wouldn't think of getting people out while the Harmon's would. Them helping that other family doesn't seal the deal on their redeemable qualities (to which I just don't think Ben has at all) as much as it's simply what both sides know. Ben and Vivian know that if that family gets away, they're probably safe. Tate, perpetually stuck as a troubled teenager, who has only ever lived on this street doesn't have the experience or maturity to see that option. In fact, given that his family has moved in and out of the house and and are still stuck in the clutches of the house would probably lead Tate to deduce that once you live here, you never really get away even if you are still alive like his mother.
  25. Yes they were there longer than 3 days. Hugh says their (his and Liv's) marriage was good except for the last 3 days when they weren't themselves. He also says they were only supposed to be there 8 weeks. They arrived in the summer, and Olivia says in her conversation w/Mrs. Dudley that they still hoped to be out by the end of summer so they are only there about 2 months.
