  1. Yep, Stefano was definitely best in the 80s. And '87 was great for all the other villains. Like one other highlight I should have added... Simon Hopkins! He was a great twist when it turned out he wasn't just brought on to make Tom jealous but really a criminal involved in the plot to kill the senator.
  2. 1987 Highlights: -Emma's murder revealed to be Shane's ISA partner Gillian and her twin (but it was kinda cool cause the actress really had a twin in real life) -Diana appears and is followed by the mysterious man in a braid who in a big reveal showers off his disguise (ah the days when there were multiple potential villains) -Steve is set up to shoot Sen. Deveraux and has to go on the run. (ah the days of adventure storylines and actual romance.) Lots of fun stuff from that summer including the time all the Steve/Kayla fans were waiting for.... (Poor MBE though who had to film their sexy times 6-7 months pregnant.)
  3. I loved Bo and Hope's '87 exit. It's just so classic since they literally sailed off into the sunset. It was the ultimate HEA. And it felt like the writers really cared about the Bo/Hope fans unlike the '14 writers who basically said 'screw you' to the Sami/Ej fans. But also with Bo/Hope's exit, Steve and Kayla were the ones on the dock to see them off as if the torch was being passed to them. It was a great send off and symbolic at the same time.
  4. Amen! Especially with a known seasoned actress like Dano, create a new character for her. Not doing so just points to the lack of talent on the writing staff. Recasting a notable character like Vivian who Sorel has established is always a big miss. This is just one more reason to make one of my 2021 resolutions be to stop watching this show.
  5. It's bad enough that Allie comes across as immature and dumb as rocks, but could they cut back on the people who get dumbed down in the process? Like Kate's advice to sue Tripp in civil court. I get that they are frustrated because they believe he raped Allie and has been given a pass via the justice system, but a civil suit that serves the purpose of slandering his name and extracting child support?! There's a lot of problems with that idea that I hope someone with half a brain points out when the show picks up on Monday. 1. Allie does not need the money to support little Henry. Excess money (presumably from overly generous and sometimes irresponsible Grandma Kate as well as Sami & EJ's possibly not legal money) is what lead to Allie's socialite lifestyle where she was reckless drunk on a regular basis which lead to the night of her rape. 2. Trip as a med student probably doesn't have that much money by himself so he'd likely be paying her with money from his mother's mobster "blood money." (Which per #1 Allie has her own.) 3. A civil suit could prompt Tripp to sue for custody of Henry. (Admittedly I'm not sure how much Allie would care given that she's been trying to give the kid away left and right, but I assume Kate would be bothered by her supposed granddaughter's rapist having custody. Right now Tripp doesn't care about the baby but light a fire under his ass with a legal stunt like this and....well see #4) 4. Ava Vitalli is not going to take lightly to her son being sued. Does Kate really want to bring that wrath down on Allie? (Although personally I'd love to see Ava make Allie's life hell, especially if it shifts her obsession off Steve and Kayla.)
  6. I know Trask is supposed to be a hard-ass but I thought her hesitation to release Joey "the convicted murder" was a little extreme. Even putting aside the fact that Ava is clearly alive so it wasn't murder, and a new charge would be a lesser attempted murder to which Kristin only got 5 years, Trask phrased that as if Joey was a Dr. Rolf walking around town where anyone might be his next potential victim (or in Rolf's case a potential surrogate or future Stefano). Joey's crime was specifically directed at Ava who tormented his mother and raped his father. It was more a "crime of passion" with a very specific victim, not random where the rest of Salem is in danger. I also had to wonder when Trask saw Ava alive if she was wondering what it took to get Haley brought back from the dead. Given that Ron is much better with farce and humor than logical storytelling, I wish he'd have had Melinda give Ava a really good once over, maybe even touch her hair or skin and quip with a preoccupied thought in her mind, "You say Dr. Wilheim Rolf is behind this resurrection?" 😀 Agree, she should have left him explain as much as he should have text or called, although Bonnie's theatrics are more in character. I honed in on that too. And it's about time they start getting at a motive behind Gwen's madness. Between Gwen's hatred of Abby and the Tripp/Allie baby storyline, Ron needs to move things along. He already wasted Nov. sweeps month.
  7. I agree that the writers have tarnished Kayla and Steve in recent years. They were great in the '80s, but the more recent writers don't use them to their potential like many other characters. One of the problems I have is when Kayla is tossed into the problems of her relatives and used to prop certain characters. A few years ago it was Abigail, who she excused for having an affair with EJ while treating Sami like dirt. Currently it's Allie, who she has no established on screen relationship with prior to this rape mess. I get that the DNA is throwing everyone off, but since Kayla pointed out the other day that Tripp is denying even sleeping with Allie, it would be nice to have a heartfelt conversation between Kayla and Tripp where at the end of it they decide to work together as medical professionals to get to the bottom of why the DNA matches.
  8. I was thinking the same thing today--if these husbands and wives would just talk to each other in private they'd quickly figure out how badly they are being played. Gwen is using middle school tactics on grown adults and coming out on top. Agree. I felt like I needed a score card today to keep up with all the immature mistakes people made. Justin has been around the block enough times to know basic etiquette of calling your date if you're going to be late. And then Steve and Kayla picked the worst time to hold a dicey conversation of kicking Tripp out right in front of their arch nemesis, Ava. In general, I loathe Ave and have been a Steve/Kayla fan since the 80s but they walked right into that one today so when Ava turns Tripp against them, I'm going to have limited sympathy. That was hilarious, especially considering that Justin got beat in court by Sami who ad libbed her legal arguments and court procedures. When you lose against a non-attorney whose legal strategy is, "But wait, there's more!" it's probably time to start discounting your billable hours. Poor Joey is so screwed.
  9. I can't tell if Chad is supposed to be coming off dumb as rocks in this storyline or it's just the bad writing. I mean, I get that he seems to lose his wife a lot lately, but if he isn't noticing her go missing from their bed at 3am then it can't be her spending the night with Jake. Marital mystery solved. Ah well, maybe the next time Chad Zoom chats w/Anna she can show Chad that little tracker app she has on Tony.
  10. Afraid so. Doesn't seem like a very holy place, that's for sure.
  11. These are the reasons why Brady and Kristin have always skeeved me out. It is so not cool to sleep with the same woman who used to sleep with your dad. Oh man can you just imagine a child that is a mix of Lani and Stefano's 'essence?' *shivers and cringes*
  12. You're totally welcome! I wish there was a channel that ran old episode so we could binge watch the good old days of Days! I loved Orpheus and his revenge storyline so much too. The actor did a great job with making a distinct character and villain who had this heartbreaking backstory that made him the way he was rather than some silly obsession. Plus he was smart and always two steps ahead of them.
  13. Good point! Unless of course something more kinky happened at that convent. 😀😀😀
  14. I know, right?! I thought maybe I had the wrong channel when two people on screen were having a conversation that was logical and actually made sense! However, on that note, perhaps Nicole called the wrong Carver. I can't help but think if she wants to keep Allie out of jail for attempted murder, it's Lani she needed to report Ava too. After all, Allie is a mother and we all know that's a certifiable defense in Lani's book. Then again, so is Ava. Hmmm. What would Lani do then???
  15. Sometimes you can find things on youtube but they pull a lot of it down due to copyright. Just for fun, here's an old clip from Dec. '86. It amazes me that most things improve in 34 years, but not Days. It's gone downhill big time. Just in this clip segment alone, there's multiple background music that changes with the mood, suspense, and special effects, not to mention the camera angles, scenes cuts, and story telling are a much higher quality. Oh and damn Orpheus was good looking! I mean if you like that dark and mysterious type that whisks you off to a tropical island. 😀
  16. Pretty much or almost! They did rehash that and their days at the convent together where Ava took Kristin's advice (basically don't let anything stand in your way and go after what you want) to heart. Then the second time Ava came back after Kristin called to warn her that Zander might be on to her.
  17. I think that's where it started too--the summer when the teens were on an island school trip, and Days was attempting to attract new, younger viewers on summer break by making the teen scene the major storyline. On the trip, Shawn and Belle almost hooked up, but Jan got raped by Nicole's pervy father. I seem to recall Jan got an STD and pregnant, while off screen Shawn must have gotten a lobotomy because he came up with the annoying idea to claim to be the father of Jan's unborn child, tanking his relationship with Belle. Jan lost the baby, but gained a new obsession--her dumb white knight Shawn.
  18. Yep, and when someone was in a scene at the hospital they didn't magically teleport to Shenanigans after the next commercial break. Now I'm always side-eyeing how people hop from one location to the other so fast. It's like everyone lives two minutes from town square, the park, the hospital, Brady Pub, Titan, Jake's garage, and everyone they know. I feel like the Christmas village under my tree is bigger than Salem some days. I miss Neil Curtis's house, Blondie's, Kayla's loft, and Shane's house with the secret spy room. I am so sick of Nicole's tiny apartment that supposedly houses her, Allie, Henry, and an invisible Holly.
  19. Ah yes, the days when not everyone lived at either the Kiriakis mansion, the Dimera Mansion, and Salem Inn. Grown adults had their own homes. And even when Orpheus blew up Roman/John & Marlena's in late '86, it was rebuilt before '87! lol
  20. Me too! If 2020 episodes ended tomorrow and they suddenly started airing 1986 in the same time slot I'd do a happy dance and then actually stay glued to my TV for an hour, mesmerized in a good story with actual background music.
  21. THIS! TB should have paused as if Ava took in the scene after she burst open the solid door that didn't have a pane of glass. Instead she went right for the gun as if she knew. Or they needed a throwaway line where Ava credited Rolf for her x-ray vision. 'By the grace of God and Wilhelm Rolf!' I laughed out loud when she said that. I'm starting to think Dr. Rolf has a legal defense fund scheme where for a million dollar donation he'll bring your dead loved one back from the grave for you.
  22. I could be down with Ava on my TV screen if they continue to pit her against Allie. The hilarity that Allie is so immature that she was more worried about stealing and losing Grandma Kate's gun instead of the psycho mobster who just disarmed her alongside the psycho mobster who just underestimated how cluesless and naïve Allie really is. Ava's "secret" was toast the minute Allie opened her mouth to Nicole, the second biggest gossip in town, even before Steve saw her with his own two one eyes. It would have only been funnier if Allie would have run into Julie on her way home. On a different note, has the Salem Inn hung out it's no vacancy sign yet? At last count, Brady, Ben, Jack, Eli, Chloe, and now Zander have all checked in. If Tripp needs a new place to live and there's still a room left, I don't think he'll be lonely there.
  23. If only NBC would fire Ron. 🎵All I want for Christmas is a new head writer...🎵
  24. I saw that earlier too and was wondering the same thing. Would be nice if they compiled some memorable moments episodes to fill some time. Surely that could be produced remotely with a video editor and producer. Maybe the writers today could even take some notes and learn something...and by learn something I mean improve their writing skills not just rip off old plots.
  25. It would have been nice for someone sensible (do we even have a character like that left on this show though?) to have an intelligent conversation with Allie where they addressed adoption by a stranger and got to the root of Allie's issues that seem to range from things with her family dating prior to Henry's conception, her partying socialite lifestyle at the time she got pregnant, and the night of the rape. But a voice of reason is lacking so that's never happened. Since Sami didn't (and still doesn't) know about the rape, I think she just felt that Allie was being too hasty about not keeping the baby and would regret it later in addition to not wanting to lose her own grandson. While Sami can be queen of over-the-top in her reactions and methods, I think her heart was still in the right place in regards to Allie. As for when Will was born, I'm rather surprised Marlena didn't try to talk Sami into giving Will up for adoption to save Carrie all the heartache when it was believed Austin was the father. Or maybe she did and I missed that episode.
