  1. I didn't know where else to put this as there is no thread opened yet for the Season 14 premiere. DVR Alert! Tonight's episode, "Something Old, Something New" is supersized and will run from 10:00 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. Just for future reference, is there a rule that only mods can start the individual episode threads? I would gladly have started one for the episode but didn't want to step over the line.
  2. DVR Alert! There's no thread open yet for tonight's episode (12/1) so I didn't quite know where to put this. I just checked the TV listings for tonight and the episode, "Scratched" will run from 8:59 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  3. The Post and Courier has a couple of Top Chef centered articles running today. "The 'Top Chef' Effect Could Be Huge in Charleston" http://www.postandcourier.com/food/the-top-chef-effect-could-be-huge-in-charleston/article_57a29936-af8a-11e6-a439-23fc80d13473.html?utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&utm_campaign=user-via The next article is somewhat spoiler-ish. "'Top Chef Charleston' Surprisingly Not So Local in First Episode" http://www.postandcourier.com/food/top-chef-charleston-surprisingly-not-so-local-in-first-episode/article_f4c2b432-af8d-11e6-bb68-b7d18ddab8f3.html
  4. I think it's been made pretty clear from the last three weeks of voting that the army that matters right now is Miley's 31.2 million twitter followers.
  5. I was surprised when Randall said to hallucination Jack that he (Randall) was just the replacement for Jack's dead son. I'm glad we got the answer to the question of whether or not "the twins" know that they were originally triplets. As a fan of 80s music, I loved seeing the tree where the big three had carved their names--with Jack's pocket knife, still hanging there--also had a carving that said, "B-52s Rock." So Kate Pearson/Kate Pierson isn't just a coincidence! Someone in the writers' room, or perhaps the show runner, is a B-52s fan!
  6. Unpopular opinion: Although I have enjoyed Wé's performances throughout the competition, I thought she absolutely butchered "God Bless the Child." I found it cringe worthy. Next up on the awful scale: Austin. What a terrible song choice and lackluster performance. Then, Courtney. Not good. I'm thinking Courtney, Aaron and Austin will be the bottom three tonight with Austin getting the Twitter save. I actually thought Aaron's "Rocket Man" performance was interesting and enjoyable but I think the sand has run out of his hour glass.
  7. It's good to know that even Amenadiel, a celestial being, didn't immediately recognize 2016 Rebecca DeMornay from her early 80s self! And bravo to the use of "In the Air Tonight!"
  8. Good article. Thanks for linking it here. I found "Act of God" to be perhaps the most interesting of all the episodes because I learned about something I'd never known before. I'd read the excellent biography, Elizabeth the Queen: The Life of a Modern Monarch by Sally Bedell Smith a few years back and accordingly, much of what is being covered in The Crown is familiar to me. Watching this episode, however, I was shocked that I'd never heard of the Great Smog of 1952. I think this episode and "Hyde Park Corner" were my two favorites of the season.
  9. HBC has already played--and was Oscar nominated for--the role of QEtQM in "The King's Speech." Whether she'd want to do it again is the question.
  10. This is sad news. The Queen's cousin and best friend has passed away at 91. Inevitable, I suppose, when one reaches their 90s that lifelong friends would pass on but particularly with someone of the Queen's status who, by the very nature of her vocation, would have very few people with whom she can just be herself. http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/queen-mourns-cousin-best-friend-margaret-rhodes-dies-aged-91-1593682?utm_campaign=soficalflowfacebook&utm_source=socialflowfacebook&utm_medium=articles
  11. I was browsing around YouTube last night and I came across this clip from the pilot; the scene where Chloe wakes up in the hospital after having been shot by sleazy Jimmy. At the 1:50 mark, Lucifer is exiting Chloe's room and begins talking to an actor I didn't recognize at all from the aired pilot. I realized the actor was playing Dan, pre-Kevin Alejandro. So here's a clip with Nicholas Gonzalez in it. I didn't know his name until I read your post @Gigi43!
  12. A commercial for The Voice during the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade said that the Top 10 will become the Top 8 next week, so obviously we're losing two contestants Tuesday. I like that better than the Top 9 to Top 4 from last season.
  13. There's an article in The Hollywood Reporter about Chrissy Metz. 'This Is Us' Actress Chrissy Metz on Going From Junior Agent to TV Star: "Now It's My Turn" http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/rambling-reporter/is-us-actress-chrissy-metz-going-junior-agent-tv-star-my-turn-949174?facebook_20161123
  14. Bravo has posted a video clip of the new cheftestants discovering that they're competing against eight returning chefs. http://www.bravotv.com/top-chef/season-14/videos/your-first-look-at-top-chef-season-14
  15. According to an article in Variety today, the future doesn't look bright for the show: http://variety.com/2016/tv/news/tv-series-cancelations-1201925033/
  16. Some random comments about the episode: In general, I'm not liking Miguel either. The writers are doing a great job if that is their intent. Like many, I don't think Miguel should ever have asked to wear the hat. That should be exclusively for Jack's kids. I hope the writers address why the hat goes back and forth only between Kevin and Randall and why Kate isn't included. I'd like to know the story behind that. But back to Miguel; there's no reason why he couldn't find a few quiet moments with Tess and Annie to share some funny, made-up, creative Thanksgiving stories without "wearing the hat." Of course, that's only if his step granddaughters are truly at the center of his request. I'm thinking that it's really all about Miguel getting attention and validation as a true family member. If that is the case, he needs to find some other way to achieve this. IMO, Olivia only agreed to join Kevin at his family's Thanksgiving meal when she heard details about them and assumed they were interesting enough for her to "mine" some acting tips for herself. That is some textbook chutzpah to ask William, someone she JUST met, what it's like to know you're dying. That was quite a scene. I really wonder if the show will actually follow through on Kate having gastric bypass surgery. This is just my layman's opinion, but from what we've seen of the character to date, I don't think she's psychologically ready to have the surgery and I know that any candidate has to go through some pretty intensive pre-surgical evaluation to qualify. I also wonder if the exposition of the fact that Rebecca knew William for so many years and kept it from Randall will lead to the revelation of something else that has perhaps also been kept secret. We've speculated in other threads as to whether or not the "twins" know that they were actually triplets at birth. Does that come out in the wash too as Randall learns that Rebecca knew who William was from the day the babies left the hospital? And, on a last completely shallow note: Do you think Toby will sleep with the copy girl? (I'm sorry. That was the first thing that ran through my mind when Kate told Toby she thought they should take a break!)
  17. Thanks for that info, @Quilt Fairy I just checked the programming guide and it will run on Saturday from 6:06-6:21 p.m.
  18. So, Cooper evidently got himself kicked off Twitter. http://www.allaboutthetea.com/2016/11/20/southern-charms-cooper-ray-banned-from-twitter-for-harassing-fans-through-fake-accounts/
  19. The HTGAWM Facebook page has a 25 minute video Q&A with AE up. There was some sort of sound issue with the first 25 or so seconds of the video but then the audio comes up and all is fine.
  20. Yes. I really wanted to see the conversation that occurred after Jack told them to "get their asses in the car." Was there one or did they just send both brothers to their respective rooms when they got home?

  22. This is an important point. While I have never been clinically obese, I have had occasion to lose 45 pounds with Weight Watchers. I had a great facilitator and she brought this up a lot. Many times, people who have a known recovering alcoholic in their midst in a social situation will opt not to drink themselves. With food, it often goes in the opposite direction, "Is that salad ALL you're going to eat?" or Grandma telling you, "Come on, eat some more. I made this just for you." There is social pressure to eat. The other thing I did want to bring up is that the program Kate has herself on is completely unrealistic. She needs more balance in what she's eating and she needs to allow for an occasional sweet if that's what she's craving. It was implied in the scene at the gas station that she went on a junk food binge. Had she just eaten the one donut we saw her eat in the scene, that would have been okay! It shouldn't be made to look as if she did something positively awful. No one can live the rest of their life without an occasional sweet or salty snack or dessert. Even if one were able to go through their entire weight loss program to goal without say, a slice of pizza, there's no way they'd be able to maintain their goal weight. It can't just be a "diet" indicating deprivation of food. It has to be a change in lifestyle and that includes the occasional bagel with cream cheese or a couple of chocolate chip cookies in addition to newly acquired healthy food habits. All that being said, I have reached the point of boredom with Kate's story line evidently being all about her weight. It's the weakest part of the show in my opinion. The show's writers are pretty great in all other aspects of the show. Kate's plot needs some work.
  23. The Chicago Tribune has a good article up today about Top Chef: Charleston. Most of the article revolves around new TC judge, Chicago based Graham Elliot and his personal travels and tastings around the city during filming but he does drop a couple of spoilers within the interview indicating three of the Charleston restaurants that were featured. I'm delighted to see that FIG was one of them! http://www.chicagotribune.com/lifestyles/travel/ct-top-chef-charleston-best-restaurants-travel-1127-20161115-story.html
  24. The scene with Maze and the Pop Tarts had me laughing out loud.
