  1. As a matter of fact, yes she has:
  2. I just have to say that I'm astonished at how many people here don't like carrots! Perhaps they're not the world's most exciting vegetable but they're more than palatable and you can dress them up in many delicious ways. I was even able to get my kids to eat carrots when they were little and they turned their little noses up at just about any vegetable that wasn't corn. I can somewhat understand people not liking green, leafy veggies (although I love 'em all.) But carrots? I truly don't get it. I thought pretty much everyone would at least put carrots in their "OK" column. Carry on...
  3. I was also glad to see Windell Middlebrooks featured in the "In Memoriam" segment. He is best remembered for his performance as the delivery guy in the Miller High Life ads. He was terrific in those commercials! I don't recall the SAGs paying tribute to actors primarily known for commercials prior to this year. Nice to see.
  4. I think I remember reading someplace that Kate Winslet is a size 6, which by Hollywood standards is fat. (insert eye roll here) She looked fabulous tonight. Brad was very good on the carpet tonight, especially his interview with DiCaprio.
  5. JMO, of course, but I thought this was the worst episode of this series so far. Edie's dance was the only bright spot.

  7. Remember Whitney's often delayed restaurant, Generalisimo? Evidently not happening. http://charleston.eater.com/2016/1/26/10827288/ink-and-ivy-charleston
  8. Isaac discusses his gumbo in this week's installment of an ongoing series he's doing for the N.O. Times-Picayune. Quite an accomplishment. http://www.nola.com/dining/index.ssf/2016/01/top_chef_isaac_toups_2.html
  9. I am in no way defending Phillip as I am more than ready for him to pack his knives and go but this post reminded me of a video I had seen earlier today where Mei and Antonia were (among other things) discussing how much they appreciated the criticism as they learned so much from the judges' comments. Antonia went as far as to say that after specific criticism, she never made that same mistake again. I got the impression that she was not only talking about the competition. I think that the wise chefs take the judges' criticism very seriously and make changes going forward. Phillip does not strike me as wise! Life is a learning experience; IMO the only truly ignorant people are those who think they have nothing new to learn. Edited to add the link to the video: https://www.facebook.com/TOPCHEF/videos/10153924848819612/
  10. In addition to my Sorkin fandom, I am a baseball fanatic so I was extremely excited to see Moneyball. I found it disappointing overall. First, it doesn't particularly have a Sorkin feel to it. This was a shared writing credit and it feels like it. Then, from a baseball perspective, it played with the truth by portraying the 2002 Oakland Athletics as these massive underdogs to advance the story, when in reality they had three of the best starting pitchers in baseball and also a shortstop who earned the MVP award that year but were barely mentioned at all. I suppose if one is a casual baseball fan or has no real knowledge of the sport, they could get caught up in the excitement but to me it was a head scratcher. Honestly, if the viewer doesn't like baseball, I can't imagine they'd like the film as it is very much a "baseball movie" concentrating on the business end of baseball. I also saw Steve Jobs and I thought it was just brilliant. The dialogue is non-stop and absolutely amazing. Sorkin at his best. There's a reason that Fassbender, Winslet, Daniels and Seth Rogen gave such incredible performances; they were given magnificent words to speak.
  11. Nina Siemaszko is also in TAP. Sorkin's screenplay is brilliant. You're going to have a whole new bunch of favorite quotes!
  12. I would have put this in the thread for tonight's episode but I didn't see one opened yet. Just a heads up that tonight's TC episode, "Back in the Day" is airing an hour earlier than normal, at 9:00 p.m. EST. I wasn't aware of the time change and I'm assuming others may not be either. Glad I checked the guide in advance!
  13. I just watched Tuesday night's episode of Rob Lowe's FOX comedy, The Grinder. I didn't know beforehand that there was a guest appearance by none other than Richard Schiff! He walked into the scene and I actually screamed out, "Toby! Back with Sam!" His appearance was only about 2 minutes in an opening flashback scene but more than enough for a geek-out by this WW fan!
  14. Sam and Toby back together again! (Sorry, a little geek-out there from a huge "West Wing" fan!) I thought this episode was hilarious. Except for Todd, who annoys the hell out of me. Why is he even with the firm? Have I missed that nepotism was somehow involved? I can't imagine why he would have been hired otherwise. The character is cringe worthy. Deb: Where have you been all my life? Andre: In Dean's guest house. Ha! Fred Savage continues to nail it each episode.
  15. The overnight ratings are not good for our Peggy. :( https://twitter.com/TVGrimReaper/status/689841827709526016 https://twitter.com/TVGrimReaper/status/689844288616697856
  16. Rob Lowe even tweeted about it during the speech! https://twitter.com/RobLowe/status/687146259233116160

  18. This is what I had been reading too. The early money in Hollywood has been on Fassbender, who was absolutely brilliant in Steve Jobs. The GGs aren't often a great predictor of the Oscars. I think we should wait and see the SAG Awards in two weeks before calling the race for DiCaprio.
  19. While I've linked the full article over in the media thread, this little blurb definitely fits here in the episode thread. Isaac has been doing post-episode commentary for the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Here are his comments on Phillip's potato disaster. http://www.nola.com/dining/index.ssf/2016/01/top_chef_competitor_isaac_toup_1.html
  20. Season 13 contestant Isaac Toups is doing a post-episode commentary for the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Here's the link for his most recent installment for Episode 5. Good stuff! http://www.nola.com/dining/index.ssf/2016/01/top_chef_competitor_isaac_toup_1.html I like his description of Judges' Table: Additionally, here's a link to the Times-Picayune's Top Chef topic page which has links for their episode recaps, as well as Isaac's individual ones: http://topics.nola.com/tag/top%20chef/
  21. Here's the direct link to the Grayson vs. Giselle LCK. Hope this works for you. http://www.bravotv.com/last-chance-kitchen/season-5/videos/lck-ep-4-decisions-decisions-decisions
  22. That was my first thought too! Wow, I didn't catch that. He should be bowing at Kwame's feet. Were it not for his sauce, the dish would have been a complete failure. Yes, because grilling a steak and laying it atop gloppy mashed potatoes is super sophisticated. :/ Again, it was Kwame's sauce that gave that dish whatever degree of sophistication it may have had, not anything that Philip did. Any home cook can prepare what Philip did and probably do a better job of it. I think he should have gone home for a total lack of creativity as well as for gluey potatoes. But, I think your prediction of Philip's ultimate exit TH is spot on. We just see the version that the editors want us to see, but I think your last sentence sums it up; I don't think he's liked by several of the other contestants and they saw an opportunity to assist his trip out the door. They just didn't get what they were hoping for. I did get the impression that they were all working as one big team though, so perhaps other chefs felt more comfortable speaking out in that context. This is the way I saw it too. I think perhaps Karen just doesn't play well with others. She's had an issue with Angelina already and now Giselle. Also, it was sort of surprising for her to stand at JT and claim that she did most of the work. You're up there on a losing dish. If not for Gail voicing the opinion that Giselle was just unfairly skating by, it could very well have been Karen that was PYKAG'd for a dish the judges didn't care for. I agree with what you've said here. I also didn't think that Jason was nasty when he said it to Angelina. He leaned in quietly to say it to her. She didn't seem miffed by it at the time either. I like Kwame, Jeremy and Wesley but my favorite is definitely Isaac. He seems to be consistently good and he seems to have a great personality. Seeing him with the date machete had me laughing!
  23. I'm fine with what you've envisioned here. I'm ONLY still watching this because of Thomas Sadoski anyway (once an actor's appeared in a Sorkin show, I usually become a fan), so a show concentrating on Matt and Colleen's burgeoning relationship works for me. I'm not sure why I'm continuing with the show because of the 12 episodes that have aired, I've truly only enjoyed the Thanksgiving episode. At least one of the segments each week causes me to feel embarrassed for the characters. I'm not sure that's what the writers are going for but that's the outcome for me and that's not good.
