That's my thought as well, that the estate would be in control of whomever is the next male in the family whether that be a son, brother, cousin, uncle etc., but then we have Lady Danbury who is widowed and appears to have control of her own money and estate? Does she have any children? I'm assuming if she has daughters they're married off somewhere. I doubt she has a son because he'd be in control of the estate.

True. Though I do think it’s funny how Anthony kept pushing things. During the hunt he brought up the bee sting incident. Why not just forget what happened? Why even bring it up when no one saw them and “nothing” happened? Of course we know why. He was frustrated by the feelings the incident awakened within him. Then he had to “teach” Kate how to hold the gun, which resulted in him having to get intimately close to her. Honestly, I didn’t see where he improved how she was holding it before he gave her instructions. Lol. So was that just a ploy, albeit unconscious, to get close to her? Then the encounter in the library where he was a little more subtle, but during the dance he stopped short of asking her to ask him not to propose to Edwina, which was followed up by the intense scene in the library where he outright asks her to admit that she cares for him. He kept pushing and pushing, but then when he realized he was falling in love with Kate, panic ensues and he runs like crazy in the other direction. Like someone questioned upthread, I wonder what he would’ve done if in that moment Kate admitted her feelings for him? What did he hope would come from her (and him) admitting their feelings for each other at that point and time? Would he have immediately ended things with Edwina? Or remained in denial? Because though he’d just pretty much admitted that he liked Kate, to her, and wanted her to admit she liked him, when confronted by Daphne he tried to deny there was anything between them.

I liked Dorset, but I don’t know if he’d make a good match for anyone considering what seemed like his propensity for travel to expand on his medical knowledge. Just with the little we learned about him, I could see him being a life-long bachelor. Though I think if he did find someone she’d have to be someone who was fine with joining him in his travels around the world. Regarding the splash, I had to laugh at Newton playing a part in Anthony’s embarrassing fall considering his dislike for him, at that point. Lol. How did he even end up behind him anyway? See, if Anthony had behaved and not got into a minor p*ssing contest with Dorset and allowed him to assist Kate as she exited the boat, perhaps he’d not suffered such embarrassment. Lol.

Though Avatar crushed the box-office back in 2009, I wonder if it’s been too long to follow up with a sequel? It’s been 13 years. A lot has changed about entertainment and how we view it. Though I really enjoyed the movie back in the day. Mainly due to the groundbreaking technology used in it. It really wasn’t worth rewatch unless you could watch in IMAX 3-D, but I digress. It’ll be interesting to see how many people are still interested in this. I’d be very surprised if it manages to make even half the money the first movie made.

I agree. I'm not a big fan of Penelope only because she does what she does without remorse. Moreover, as someone else pointed out, what makes her actions unscrupulous is that she's betraying the confidence of those who trust her. She's outing their secrets to sell papers. In addition to that, the gossip she's publishing has nearly ruined several women's lives and their families reputations. Though the actress is lovely and Pen, at times, displays some compassion (her scolding her mother's joke about the Bridgertons and subsequently the Sharmas while Kate was still unconscious from the fall), I need more from her before I can ever support this character in anything. I need her to acknowledge how poisonous her pen has been. Indeed. Though we all commended Portia for drawing a line at abandoning her daughters to save her own neck, for me that praise is limited. Lord Featherington wouldn't have even suggested such a move, I don't think, if Portia hadn't so willingly risked her daughter's reputation in an attempt to save herself (and their family). Then there was the ruby scheme, for which she was the mastermind and her engaging in inappropriate intimate interaction with the Lord while he was engaged to her daughter. So while I'm glad she chose her daughters, the contempt she showed towards the Lord when ousting him, was pure hypocrisy considering just days before she was his biggest cheerleader in this scheme and didn't seem to care much about her daughters, specifically the one who was engaged to him, when locking lips with him. I agree. Like you, that was a leap considering how gung ho he was about doing "something" with his life and the fact that he's not very bright and not a jeweler. I didn't understand what made him so confident the jewels were fake? Was it Will's disdain for the Lord? Does he have that much trust in Will's opinion of someone? If he does I've not seen it before. He and Pen appear to be fated to become a couple, but like you I have no interest in seeing this coupling. Though my reasons go beyond Colin being just...argh. Lol. Something I noticed when re-watching this episode was how much Anthony was smiling at Kate at the Ball. This was before he even went to her. At first I thought it was love, happiness to see her etc. It was that, but I think he was also happy to see that she and Edwina had ironed out their differences. Speaking of Edwina for all my railing on her I thought she did grow leaps and bounds, maturing quite a bit in the last 30 minutes of this episode. Me too. I did have to laugh though at her "Oh sh*t" face when Kate told her about she and Anthony having sex, and then her immediate deep breath and look of we'll get through this. Lol. Loved it! I really would love to see her again and more of her relationship with Kate. Unfortunately that may be a pipe dream since she's likely fulfilled her purpose on the show with Kate now married and Edwina likely to disappear into the ether.

Autopsy: The Last Hours Of...
Enero replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Miscellaneous Networks/Streaming Services
I knew of him, but didn't closely follow his career. That said, this was hilarious. Lol. SMH. It is sad how he died, but what's even sadder is he had no respect for the animals he claimed to be advocating to protect etc. -
Really interesting stuff about how they came up with Kate’s backstory. Though it was never outright stated during the season I always got the impression that life was more progressive in India. Hence Kate seeming to be more worldly and independent than most women, especially those who were single, during that time. Also, it was obvious Kate’s access to the royal family whom her father worked for played a part in prepping Edwina (and even herself) on how to navigate the upper echelons of British society. Mary likely help some too.

Unfortunately this could all be moot if a Russian is elected President of the ISU in June. If the war is still going on at that time, I'd hope members of the ISU would think better of electing a Russian sympathizer as president, but you never know how things will go in these types of situations.

Tracey died in August 2021. His cause of death is not known.

This. I was so put off by his smugness about committing crimes, not taking responsibility for them and abandoning his family, that I chose to stop at the first episode.
-
The uncle died about a year after Gabriel. No details on his cause of death. Sadly the partner who was featured in the documentary, Mr. Martinez, died in El Salvador in 2020 of Covid. I tried watching this but only made it about halfway through the second episode. I was so disgusted and heartbroken by the abuse this poor child suffered I just couldn’t finish it. I did, however, look up the case to see what happened to the monsters who killed him. Glad both are imprisoned never to enjoy freedom again, and that the the thing that birthed him is getting tortured by her cell mates, hopefully on a daily basis. Couldn’t have happened to a more deserving piece of trash.

I disagree. The night before the wedding she expressed concern about him not looking at her enough. I think she came out and said she wish she was certain of his love for her, but she was reassured mostly by Mary. I’d argue that Edwina was uncertain about Anthony’s feelings. But he’d proposed and she was blinded by her desire to be the viscountess. Notice when she goes off on Kate about the betrayal she talks about her dream living her life as the viscountess and managing Aubrey Hall. Not once did she say she loved Anthony and thus was one of many reasons why she was hurt over what happened. For all of Edwina’s naivety and supposed lack of agency, she had no problem whatsoever deciding that she wanted Anthony no matter what he or anyone else said (or didn’t say in Anthony’s case). So again, I think she was blinded by what could be, not by what was. When she saw the way Anthony looked at Kate (and she at him) at the wedding the blinders finally came off. I did feel a little bad for Edwina, but then she was just so harsh towards Kate, throwing in her face that they were half sisters, then whining about true love being a lie, then telling Kate she was heartless. By the time we got to her heartless comment I was too done with her. As someone said upthread , I don’t think she grasped what Kate had sacrificed for her and their family. And though I thought her anger was warranted, I thought her inability to grasp the full scope of the situation beyond Anthony, made her come off as immature (which she was, despite her insistence that she is a grown woman) and almost a little spoiled and pouting. I think if Kate had not had the riding accident Edwina would’ve been angry for much longer than a week.

@Scarlett45 I completely agree with everything you’ve said here. Even when Anthony came to visit Kate after she’d recovered from the fall, his statements seemed to center around obligation rather than love. Which is why Kate rejected his proposal, then later cried on Mary’s shoulder about him not loving her and not allowing him to marry her out of obligation. Even after their lovely dance at the Featherington Ball, where it was obvious Anthony was completely smitten with her, she still had plans to return to India. It was only when he told her what he felt for her – telling her he loved her, and what wanting and dreaming of her meant – that he didn’t want to live his life without her and wanted her as his wife, that she finally conceded and confessed her love and accepted his marriage proposal. Thankfully Anthony finally got it right, expressing himself clearly because if he’d not done that, he would’ve lost his chance at a future with Kate.

Agreed. Taking to EP8 thread to respond further.

Also what was interesting upon rewatch of this episode was during the museum scene, Mary reveals to Anthony how Kate essentially took over the family upon her father’s death. Though Anthony was aware of Kate’s “gate keeper” role in Edwina’s life I don’t think he had any idea about the extent of that role. Thus his shocked and pensive expression upon learning this. His knowledge of this also further supported his statement to Kate about them doing something for themselves for once. Being that he then understood her role in her family which mirrors his. I do wish though this was something he learned directly from Kate rather than from Mary. Well I think Anthony completely misread the room on this one. 😂 He was excited and encouraged by the kiss they shared in the church, and therefore was thinking Kate was ready to give their relationship a go. But what he failed to understand was that kiss was a goodbye from Kate. She had decided it was “now or never” knowing that once they left that church she had no intentions of looking in his direction again (poor delusional Kate). 😂 So she kissed him liked she’d been wanting to do for months. Though the truth was out, there was no way Kate was going to allow Anthony to try and court her. They were being shunned by society due to Edwina’s failed nuptials to Anthony. Edwina was still angry with her and though Mary seemed to have already gotten passed the lie I think Kate starting a relationship with Anthony immediately after things blew up would not have sat well with her mother. Not to mention her ongoing guilt about the betrayal. The timing was all wrong for Anthony’s request for them to be alone to discuss the kiss and subsequently their relationship. Though I could understand his desire to pursue what he’d wanted for months being that Kate seemed amicable to that pursuit per the kiss they shared.

I don’t know. I still think Edwina would’ve taken it VERY badly if Kate had confessed her feelings for Anthony before the wedding disaster. Kate became keenly aware of her feelings for Anthony after she and him had the fight about her returning to India. At which time Edwina had made it clear that Anthony was the one she wanted and thus she was dead set on marrying him. If Kate had told her she had strong romantic feelings for Anthony herself (and he for her) therefore Edwina should not consider marrying him, I think it still would’ve resulted in a temporary rift between the sisters. Edwina would’ve still felt betrayed being that Kate had been against Anthony all along only for her to fall for him herself. Yeah. That would’ve gone over like a lead balloon. Edwina obviously wouldn’t have suffered the embarrassment of the abandoned wedding but I think she still would’ve felt like a fool in that she couldn’t see what was happening before her eyes and somewhat betrayed as well. I really do think Kate was caught between a rock and a hard place in this situation. She was damned if she confessed and damned if she didn’t confess. That’s not to say she shouldn’t have told Edwina the truth sooner. She should have. We talk about Edwina’s blindness but Kate was also blind in that she was so focused on Edwina finding happiness and getting her heart’s desire she failed to see how impractical it was for Edwina to marry not only a man who was not in love with her, but a man who was in love with her (Kate). In the long run that was never going to work even if she did return to India unless she planned on never visiting her sister again, which perhaps that was the plan. Being that she would’ve been thousands of miles from England it is possible that she could’ve made excuses for not visiting and stayed away forever.

Speaking of the music on the show, though I enjoy hearing the pop hits that have been turned into 19th century classical pieces, I also like some of the original music too. I like the song Edwina and Anthony first dances too, which also played during the museum scene, the music played as Anthony sat in his office alone working just before he learned of the soirée at the Danbury house and the music played during the scenes after Kate and Anthony made love and the subsequent race through the park in rain where she was eventually thrown from the horse. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the composer of the original music for Bridgerton is a 30 year old African-American young man from Los Angeles - Kris Bowers.

Actually she wasn’t wearing gloves in every scene she and Anthony touched. In the bee sting scene she had on no gloves when she brought his hand to her chest and her hand to his chest. The hunting lesson, no gloves were on Kate when Anthony so sexily slid his hands over hers. She had on no gloves when Anthony caressed her hand while she wore the betrothal ring and when he helped her out of the boat at the Promenade. The gloves came off when they made love and she was shown touching his lips and face bare handed. And the scene where they were in bed after marrying she had on no gloves while they rolled around in bed and she touched his chest and neck area. The rest of the time they touched and she had on gloves it was due to the occasion and I’m guessing was the appropriate attire for the event ie the wedding, the balls where they danced, I think she may have had on gloves when they played Pall Mall too, but that was likely a personal preference by Kate. Most of the scenes where they had intimate contact she had on no gloves.

Just finished the PM Dawn episode. I had no idea the members of the group were brothers. Didn’t know Prince Be was the genius behind the group. So talented. Very sad what happened to his health. I had no idea how horribly it declined before his death. It broke my heart hearing how his quality of life deteriorated especially being as he was still so young. His kids look exactly like him, specifically his sons. :) It was disgusting what the cousin did in trademarking the PM Dawn name. And then he gone sit there and go on and on about people contacting him on SM and taking him to their homes thanking him for his performance. SMH. Unbelievable how he thought he did nothing wrong. It was also upsetting to hear that Prince Be’s family have not received any royalites off his music for two decades due to the Masters changing hands so many times because of the sell of the original label they were with. And then the family can’t do anything with the name of the group moving forward due to the shady cousin. I can’t help but think this whole mess came about due to the group not having the right representation in place to ensure their financial and creative interests were protected. But this is not new. So many talented young artists end up duped like this due to success happening so quickly and not having an understanding of how to protect their own interests long term. I do wonder what really happened with the charges against Eternal? I wonder if the 14 year old cousin recanted her story and thus the prosecution had no choice but to drop the case? For him to be arrested and charges being brought the prosecution must’ve believed they had a solid case. When I have time I’m going to have to look up the details on this. PM Dawn’s music was so good and makes me so nostalgic. Sigh. Great episode.

Please. Did any woman get such a confession before they married their husband back then? Lol. It was understood that most marriages was that of convenience ie being about status, financial matches and fulfilling their family and societal obligations. That is how Anthony approached his courtship of Edwina and even Lady Danbury made that clear to both Edwina and Kate, that this was essentially how high society marriages worked and were rarely based on love. Kate warned Edwina about Anthony’s intentions, telling her he had no intentions of marrying for love. And crazy enough he did too. At the poetry soirée he came right out and told Edwina that he couldn’t give her the passion she deserves but would be a man of action and duty. Edwina was so caught up in Anthony’s looks (she found him very attractive upon first seeing him. And I can’t blame her. Lol), his relentless pursuit of her, and the possibility of being a viscountess that she ignored all she’d been told about him and knew about him from his own mouth. When she confronted him in this episode, I was glad that she finally started asking him the questions she should’ve asked while they were courting or at least before accepting his proposal. So while Anthony and Kate were completely misguided and thus made a lot of mistakes, turning this situation into an utter mess, Edwina wasn’t completely blameless in this cluster.

I believe she’s only in her late 30s early 40s, but she looks like she’s pushing 70 and not a good 70 either. She looks unwell.

This is quite young to retire from skating. But others before her have done so after reaching their dreams. Moreover, it’s nice to see a ladies teen retire on her own terms for a change rather than been forced out due to injury or becoming obsolete to the club/country for whom they skate. I wish her great happiness and success with her future endeavors.

I thoroughly enjoyed the racing scene. Loved the banter between Kate and Anthony about High-Flyer vs Nectar. Anthony was so annoyed by Kate’s assessment of Nectar and the conditions which would determine whether he'd win the race, that he was at a loss for words except for the very weak “you think too much about it.” Lol. Anyway, everyone seemed to be having a blast at the race. Edwina and Mr. Dorset were bemused by Kate and Anthony’s enthusiasm. Lol. Also, Lord Lumley was a bit naïve and daft. He runs off to get lemonade thinking that will make him seem more gentlemanly to Edwina, per Anthony’s suggestion. Only to discover when he returns that Anthony’s suggestion was a play to get him out of the way so that he could get closer to Edwina. Mr. Lumley look annoyed when he finally realized what was up. Lol

I know this is an alternate universe but I found it strange that she would be allowed to travel that far unaccompanied by a gentleman or at least other family members even if they were women. Also, I’d think it could be dangerous for a woman to travel that long alone. I mean 6 months on a boat without any family or friends to accompany her could make her the target of some unsavory behavior from men. My other question was where was Kate going to get the money to return to India when the Sharma’s supposedly used the last of their money to get to England? I understood this thought process before the deal with the Sheffields was destroyed, but after that fiasco she was still planning to leave. So where would she get the money to travel and what would she do once she got there since she’d no longer have the money from Edwina’s dowry to become a governess? Regarding her family being okay with her move, Edwina really wasn’t okay with it. Though she didn’t have a meltdown about it like Anthony, perhaps she and maybe Mary too had tried to convince Kate for a while to remain in London after Edwina found a husband and was married off, but to no avail. So by the time they arrived in London, Edwina and Mary had already come to accept Kate’s decision. Though Edwina did continue to express her desire for Kate to stay.

Perhaps. Though I think they could’ve put them off until the wedding. Or at least maybe had a pre-meeting to get acquainted before having dinner with the Bridgertons right from the start. The wedding was going to be happening within the month I think. So Danbury had the time to handle the situation more carefully than the rushed dinner, where the Sharmas, specifically Kate and Edwina, were completely unprepared for the Sheffields nastiness and drama. Mary must’ve been just as or even more devastated than Violet when her husband died. Because it was obvious Kate took over the parental role completely in raising Edwina and managing the household. Ironically enough, Kate being forced into that role prepared her for becoming a viscountess. Anthony mentioned how his wife would not only take over running the household from Violet but be responsible for getting his siblings married off too. Kate has the experience and maturity to do that. As sweet as Edwina was she would’ve been eaten alive in the Bridgerton household with all those strong personalities and rambunctiousness. Not to mention being overwhelmed suddenly having the duties of running a household being that she’d been shielded from that her whole life. She would’ve likely had help from Mary and Violet but it would’ve still been intimidating for her I think.
