Though the show is set in an AU I doubt Eloise would have this option considering the show already established this season that women are not allowed to attend University. I agree with @quarks The writers are going to have to do some work to a) have Eloise even consider marrying since this past season she was vehemently opposed to it and b) to want to marry Philip and be a step mom. That seems to go against everything she is right now. It’ll be interesting to see if the show writers can believably write the evolution of Eloise’s character from staunch “feminist” to typical 19th century woman who embraces being a married and “silent” housewife with kids.

Love, Death & Robots - General Discussion
Enero replied to BetterButter's topic in Love, Death & Robots
The look of the episode really was stunning. The characters, including the siren were mesmerizing yet incredibly creepy looking. I do think the guy was going around in circles. No matter how far he seemed to walk away from the river he always seemed to return there. Whether that was his own choice or some strange power the siren held is unknown. I do think the episode was a commentary on greed and toxic relationships. I enjoyed Bad Traveling. I too wasn’t sure about Torrin, but he turned out to be the most moral of them all. Swarm was interesting too. Though I knew the “research” was going to go badly as soon as they decided to steal DNA from the swarm for their own gain. SMH. -
Non-Spoiler Speculation And Discussion: The Past Becomes The Future

I imagine she won’t be involved in Colin/Penelope’s story. So we may not see much of her unless she advises Kate, who may face some challenges taking over the Bridgerton household from Violet. I’m guessing Mary and Edwina won’t be around at all next season. However, it would be cool if the writers used Edwina’s wedding to set up the storylines for S3. We don’t have to see the wedding, we could just start at the reception. We see that she’s married either the Queen’s nephew or some other guy and is moving to the countryside or out of country with Mary. That would take about a minute or two before the story moved on to checkin with the main characters and what they’ve been up to for the past year. I will say besides more Kate/Anthony, which I hope we’ll see a lot of. I’m very interested in how Violet and Kate will get along. They had no one on one interaction this season, and next season Kate will be taking over a household that Violet has run for over 20 years. Tension and disagreements between the two will be inevitable, which may also cause a few arguments between Kate/Anthony. It was stated that Kate would also be responsible for the Bridgerton siblings, which I’m guessing means she’ll be responsible for, or at least heavily involved with getting them married off. This should also prove interesting as she and Violet may have different approaches and ideas about who is best for whom. This may be how Lady Danbury is utilized as well since she seems to enjoy and be quite good at matchmaking. And she’s close to both ladies. -
Non-Spoiler Speculation And Discussion: The Past Becomes The Future

I agree with everything you've said here. I think next season the Colin/Penelope pairing is going to be all about Penelope, more specifically the LW stuff coming to a head and that being a roadblock to her finally getting Colin as he'll find out the truth. I really don't think we'll see much added to Colin, because there's nothing there already. If the writers wanted to give him some layers, even subtle, they've failed to do so for two seasons. We've not seen any real relationship between him and really anyone. He's just kind of there. They had great material to work with from the Marina breakup and him running off to travel the world because of it. He could've come back more mature and less oblivious. Instead of running to see Marina he could've acted on his thought that Penelope was the only one who stood by him and gave him comfort with her letters during his travels. He didn't have to try and get with her, but he could've started to see her and thus sought out a true friendship with her. Additionally, this would've tied in nicely to him "saving" the Featherington ladies, from the Lord. All that said, I do hope that when he does learn Penelope is LW he doesn't have a temper-tantrum over what she did to Marina and it'll be more about her lies and how she, at times, nearly ruined his family. I also hope that Eloise is vehemently against the relationship once she learns of it. I will be very unhappy if she's turns out to be their biggest cheerleader, especially considering what happened at the end of S2. Moreover, even if she didn't know that Penelope was LW, I don't know if she'd be supportive of her friend being involved with her brother. There's definitely some interesting dynamics to explore with this. Sadly, none of them include Colin. -

That would be an unexpected twist but then what happens when she meets her mate, who I’m assuming will be another aristocrat whose apart of the Ton? Would LW just pass on to the next person? I’m actually fine with LW going away once Penelope is married off. The show can still have the Ton gossiping over the latest scandal without her column. The writers would just have to find another way of showing how gossip spreads in the community which shouldn’t be too hard. Though it would never happen, with Eloise’s claim of being a feminist and her liberal mindset it would be interesting to see her character living a life similar to Mary Shelley. Perhaps not as messy as Ms. Shelley’s with all the musical beds and drama, but still teetering on the edge of society, associating with free radicals and for a while living a somewhat transient life all over Europe in search of art and liberation before settling down with her Percy Shelley like husband (again similar in some ways, but not as over the top) in London after they’ve sewn their wild oats. Of course he’d have to be rich too for them to live such a radical life with comfort and ease because I couldn’t see Eloise doing it any other way. -
I wasn't aware that Chris Van Dusen was no longer going to be showrunner. I looked it up and Jess Brownell will be showrunner for seasons 3 and 4. She only wrote one episode this season, there was another episode but she co-wrote that with Van Dusen. She produced a couple of episodes this season too. Also, she looks to have been heavily involved with S1 as an Executive Story Editor and has worked on several other Shonda shows recently and in the past. It'll be interesting to see how she interprets the books. You best get your pillows, glasses and whatever else you plan to use as throwing objects ready, cause I think that's exactly what's going to happen. Lol. The fact that Penelope cried for two seconds after her fight with Eloise then went straight back to writing the LW column means she still does not care what she has done which means the writers don't really care either. But I imagine the truth will have to come out before she gets with Colin. So perhaps there will be some fall out which will impact their relationship negatively. But I'm expecting whatever consequences she suffers will be minimal.

I get how some may have this perspective. However, I did not feel this way at all. Though Simone is a woman of color, she's not a black woman, which is who the strong woman sacrificing everything for everyone else stereotype is almost exclusively applied. Same with the angry woman stereotype. It's always been applied to black women, not WOC as a whole. I don't know how things were set up in the book, but I wish they had an invisible narrator as Lady Whistledown, with the audience either never finding out who she is or we didn't find out until the end of the series ala Gossip Girl.

Sadly I think Lady Mary completely checked out on Kate and Edwina after her husband died. I mean she did still provide them a loving home, obviously, but she seemed to have no clue about who they were, especially Kate. That said, Kate is strong willed and was very good at keeping everyone's focus on where she wanted it to be - Edwina. If the focus turned to her she would make it clear that she had no interest whatsoever in finding a husband. Being that Lady Mary wasn't deeply attuned to Kate's true feelings, she took what was said at face value and thus had no reason to push her towards a mate. She truly believed Kate wanted to be free to live a life as a Governess. And again, Kate did a great job selling that bridge in Brooklyn. See her conversation with Dorset. I think Violet became suspicious of Anthony's feelings for Kate when he made those comments about her and Dorset and his jealous stare down of them at the promenade. However, her suspicions were confirmed, I think, at the wedding when Anthony left his bride to step down from the altar and help her sister retrieve that bracelet from the floor. SMH. I'm surprised more wedding guests didn't pick up on what was going on in that moment. It was painfully obvious that Anthony was not engaged with the ceremony and when he returned to the altar, his body language clearly showed he'd rather be anywhere but there. But I digress. By the time, Violet's suspicions were confirmed it was too late to speak with Anthony about his feelings for Kate. And even after everything blew up she wasn't exactly pushing him to act on those feelings as they were trying to minimize the scandal that was his failed nuptials. She only came around after seeing Anthony's devastation over Kate's accident. It's interesting though when he and Kate danced at the ball, after the accident, Violet had this near WTF look on her face. Lol. I suspect she was thinking, Anthony I told you not to let her go, but this wasn't exactly what I had in mind. SMH. Lol. Off topic a bit, but I have to say upon re-watch, I've come to enjoy Benedict, didn't care for his storyline this season, but I do like him. His facial expressions during the wedding ceremony, when the priest was talking about lust and brut beasts was hilarious as was his facial expressions when Kate and Anthony were going at it about hunting. He did have some pretty good moments this season. I can't wait to see more of his story.

I think they did sort of have those scenes. However, they were about his feelings for Edwina (except Daphne who did confront him about his feeling for both Edwina and Kate). He was spoken to numerous times about his obvious dread over marrying Edwina and lack of feelings for her but he pushed on with “ the plan” for what he thought were legitimate reasons. Anthony absolutely shouldn’t have proposed to Edwina, but I don’t know if acting on his feelings for Kate would’ve been a smooth transition either, even if she admitted that she loved him. Kate was hellbent on getting Edwina married off to an aristocrat and in turn help her family. Despite her love for Anthony, her guilt over keeping Edwina from what she wanted -Anthony, and “ruining” her chances at finding a mate would’ve stalled her and Anthony getting together. Not to mention the scandal that would’ve ensued if Anthony backed off courting Edwina to court her sister. I think the only way this may have worked without turning into a disaster for everyone would’ve been for Anthony to not propose to Edwina and stop pursuing her. Edwina might’ve been able to salvage her situation and still find a mate, that season. After which, Kate may have been ready to entertain Anthony as she would’ve accomplished what she set out to do, secure Edwina and her family’s future. Anything short of that (or at least having Edwina’s blessing) would’ve been a no go for her courting/marrying Anthony. I really like this and wish the writers had used Lady Mary more. I liked the actress and when she was given material I thought she knocked it out the park, but her character was pretty much aloof the entire season. She left Edwina’s mentoring and strategy for finding a mate to Kate (and to a lesser degree Lady Danbury) and was apparently just as obliviously to Kate and Anthony’s situation as Edwina. Which was odd considering the ladies who had just as much or more life experience than her who were close to the situation, Lady Danbury and Violet and even Daphne (who had much less life experience than the formers) picked up on it pretty fast. Lady Danbury actually had a couple of scenes with Kate where they discussed the Anthony situation albeit more alluding to what was going on rather than outright saying what was happening, but still it was there. It would’ve been nice if Lady Mary got some of those scenes. But then if she had, they would’ve had to have her intervene and stop Anthony/Edwina’s courtship. There’s no way she would’ve allowed it to continue if she knew he was in love with Kate. Unfortunately that didn’t fit the narrative the writers were going for.

Agreed. As I was telling someone earlier, I can't see this show lasting beyond 5 seasons. I think non-book fans may start to lose interest once the older Bridgertons have their seasons. The only way I can see the show going much longer is if the writers put a lot into making the younger siblings stand out and engage the audience enough to draw interest for their stories, which would come much later in the series. Otherwise, I think it may be best to start doing more than one coupling per season as the show may not last long enough to showcase them all.
-
This is pretty much what I've seen as well. That many are not looking forward to next season with the focus being on Colin/Penelope. I'm not either. Penelope has some spark, but the Lady Whistledown stuff puts me off her character. And Colin is just so dull. Though they threw in a couple of scenes during this season that telegraphed their coming pairing i.e. the look they shared upon seeing each other for the first time after his travels, him telling her that she was the only one who has consistently stood by him and then their dance, I see no spark between them whatsoever. Perhaps they will surprise us and next season will showcase the best romance on the show yet, but right now I can't see it. Well everyone is assuming that Colin/Penelope have sex scenes every couple of episodes, but the writers may keep their love scenes PG/tamed and ramp up the sex by focusing on Kate/Anthony, and with Rege supposedly returning for S3, Daphne/Simon. This. And really how many seasons can they be on the brink of bankruptcy and thus ruin? It's been two seasons of this and now it's gotten old. Honestly, I think story for the the Featheringtons has nearly run it's course. Once they do Penelope's story, I imagine they will fade to obscurity. The show is barely able to pack everything in now with just 8 episodes (unless they decide to expand the seasons). So I suspect, some of the side characters will start to fall off, especially if the plan is to tell the "love" stories for all the Bridgerton children, and thus more spouses are added to the Bridgerton clan.

That teal dress is one of my favorites from Kate’s wardrobe. I also liked the purple dress she wore when she and Edwina visited the Queen, which is similar to this one.

By the time Edwina made it to the altar it was all about giving her what she wanted (which was Anthony), from Kate’s perspective. Being that Anthony was set on breaking the engagement but Kate begged him to marry Edwina because she claimed to love him (which she didn’t) and wanted him more than anything, for Anthony it was all about doing what Kate wanted. What a mess. Lol. SMH. By that point, the social and financial implications were secondary. What’s interesting about this whole mess is that many of us have focused on Kate and Anthony almost deceiving Edwina into marrying a man who didn’t love her, but the irony of the situation is that she didn’t love Anthony. She loved the idea of being Viscountess and running Aubrey Hall, but she was not in love with Anthony. Not once did she say her heart was broken because she loved him. Her hurt was over being pitied and deceived by Kate. Though I think Edwina’s anger was absolutely warranted, I still say she was not blameless in this mess. She was warned by both Kate and Lady Danbury from the start about Ton marriages, which were for the most part loveless, and that Anthony did not seek a love match (he even told her this himself) but she ignored all of this. Moreover, Kate was able to “manipulate” Edwina to a point, but no matter how hard she tried, she could not stop Edwina from choosing Anthony. So again, her anger was warranted at Kate, but honestly I think not so much at Anthony. He always showed (and told her) what he was about but she ignored it, which I think is why he became an afterthought to her once the wedding had been nixed.

Perhaps the planet was 2-3 times the size of the Earth. They might’ve had the technology to do some type of air survey to check for the type of terrain on the planet which would help determine the best place to set up the equipment to colonize and convert the planet to a viable place to live, but a vehicle /foot survey was probably rare and limited. There were only 157 people on the planet and all (with the exception of children) were likely working long hours on the terraforming. So not much time for exploring too far outside the parameters where they were located. Additionally, as @jah1986 said the environment on the planet was extremely hostile, which likely discouraged most from doing much exploration outside of the set parameters for the terraforming installment. Yep. Which is why the colonist had been living in peace on the planet for 20 years. The eggs were just sitting there dormant until some form of life arrived which could play host and facilitate their reproduction. Honestly that was pretty crazy that those eggs were able to remain viable for more than 57 years. What was sustaining them for all that time? Would they have eventually become sterile, for lack of a better word, if they remained there forever without hosts? Regarding Burke I do think he worked for the weapons division. That would explain why he was able to exclusively assign the military (marines at that) to the mission to investigate what happened with the colonists. Well it had been 57 years since the disaster. So it’s unlikely anyone who was with the company back then was still there or even still alive. Moreover, the colonists had only been on the planet for 20 years. That was nearly 40 years after Nostromo went missing. What happened with that ship had probably been long forgotten until Ripley was found floating out in space. With that said, in Alien the crew was deliberately sent to that planet so that Ash could bring the alien back to the Company for study. So the company had come across this organism before and knew it existed on LV426 (note this planet is different from the planets in Prometheus and Alien Covenant). How long they’d known before the Nostromo was sent there is anyone’s guess. But as you said, with time and change in management and perhaps other explorations for alien organisms, what existed on LV426 was probably forgotten until Ripley returned, which renewed the Company’s interest in finding the alien.

This. It almost felt like he was trying to bait her into saying she was miserable and wished everyday that they were together, the way he kept pushing the issue. His repeated deduction that her husband was so "agreeable" almost came off as condescending. I'm glad Marina didn't play his game and essentially told him off. The only thing I didn't like about her going off on him in a way only a 19th century Lady would is her attempt to push him towards Penelope. Neither deserves her effort (though weak) in trying to match them up, considering one stabbed her in the back and the other only wanted to see her struggling after he dumped her.
-
Agreed. But I think Kate was making emotional decisions, when it came to Anthony, rather than strategic ones. Whether she realized it or not, at this point, she was already emotionally invested in him, perhaps not in a romantic way. But he did work her every nerve, Lol, which made her absolutely detest him and make kneejerk decisions when he stirred that detestation to it's height.
-
Quoting myself here but I think Lord Lumley would actually make a good match for Edwina. He seemed more her age and her speed. His poem at the soirée was actually nice. Too bad she didn’t seem interested in him at all.
-
@bijoux I think if the engagement was avoided Kate/Anthony’s entire arc would’ve had to have been completely rewritten. So I would say, change the story up after Episode 5, which I don’t think would’ve required much rewriting. The writers could’ve moved all the Kate/Anthony/Edwina story beats ahead an episode. It would’ve been ugly but Edwina should’ve witnessed “the bane of my existence” moment. That would’ve essentially torpedoed the engagement/wedding and initiated her anger at both Kate and Anthony. Lady Danbury and Violet would’ve still had to come up with a plan to overcome the scandal of the broken engagement. The museum scene and the Harmony Ball still could’ve happened as well as Anthony and Kate making love in the gazebo and the subsequent accident, with Kate being thrown off the horse. Kate/Anthony could’ve worked through their issues, and got the Queen’s blessing by the end of episode 7. The build up to and subsequent wedding (if they wanted to show them marrying), then the fast forward 6 months later could’ve been in episode 8. With the season pretty much ending as it did. They would’ve had to tweak or stretch some of the side stories to make them blend well with the changes to the progression of the Kate/Anthony story and of course change up how the Queen responded to the broken engagement. I think the scene with Edwina, Violet etc. and the Queen with the King interrupting could’ve still happened. Just with a different setup. But I think the story could’ve been just as interesting without Edwina dramatically discovering the truth while standing at the altar.

Dupe post

Yeah. The extra scenes really didn’t add much, it just added more depth to Ripley’s attachment to Newt. Agreed. That’s why I was saying this was a plot hole in the movie. The timeline didn’t make sense when scrutinized more closely.
-
When they initially asked her to go, after they lost contact with the colonists, she ridiculed them and refused their request. However, when she had another nightmare about the aliens she called Burke and agreed to go. So I think it was more about putting to bed the trauma she suffered on the Nostradamus rather than some attempt to save the colonist. She knew that if they were missing, the likelihood of them being in any condition to be rescued was unlikely. They were but they had to live there to prepare the planet for long term inhabitants. Don’t know how long it would take for the planet to be ready for mass migration but they’d been they’d been there for 20 years, and the planet though livable in that it had breathable air still had a long way to go before it’d be somewhere anyone would want to live long term. According to Ripley, Burke knew about the aliens on the planet and was the one who authorized the colonist going there. Moreover in Alien Ash was working for the company, who had instructed him to bring the alien species back to Earth for study. Perhaps the entire company wasn’t backing Burke, but I’m thinking there may have been a sector of the company that was still after the alien DNA. Hence Burke’s actions. And of course this is further confirmed in Alien 3. I did think one plot hole in the movie was the timeline. Ripley was floating out in space for 57 years before being picked up by a salvage ship, but then the colonist was said to have only been on the alien planet for 20 years with Burke giving the authorization in 1979. Unless he authorized the move and it took another several years for it to be initiated and the colonists to arrive on the planet. Which is possible but the timeline would still be off I think.

I recently rewatched this. James Cameron did a great job taking the franchise to the next level. This was arguably the best movie out of the franchise. Everytime I watch this movie I wonder though, why would anyone want to live on LV426? A mean the money they made to set up the atmosphere processors must’ve been so good no one who was made an offer would refuse the job. Because that planet looked like hell. It appeared to be covered in dark clouds, extremely windy and storming all the time and had no trees or greenery. It was a planet that looked like death, even after the air processors were set up. Also, I’m surprised more wasn’t done by the company to push the colonists towards discovering the alien ship sooner. As desperate as they were to get their hands on the alien biology for their weapons division, I don’t think they would’ve waited 20 years for a family to just happen upon the ship. Lastly, though I understood Ripley’s logic in going back out there to destroy the aliens which she hoped would help her recover from the ongoing nightmares etc. she suffered due to the trauma she experienced from the death and destruction on the Nostradamus, she was crazy to trust the company again, even with the mission being under military jurisdiction. I was very disappointed in how things ended for her due to her decision to go back out there. Still this is one of the best action sci-fi movies out there, and continues to hold up very well, even after 30+ years.

This supposedly almost happened after the 2018 games but never materialized for various reasons, at least that’s what was speculated at the time. If this latest news is true, I wonder what has changed? Though his 4Lutz is the best in the world and his presentation has gotten slightly better, overall he seems to have regressed in consistency over the years. I’m not sure if training in the west will significantly improve his talent to the point of getting on the podium again. But I guess we’ll see. I like Hanyu but his fans remind me of the crazed Kwan fans back in the day and how they could not stand anyone who could potentially threatened her in competition. And of course when Tara beat her at the Olympics, her fans were livid. They thought all she had to do was skate clean and the gold was hers. When that didn’t happen the anger was palpable and as a result some pretty nasty things were said about Tara. I shudder to think of the ugliness that would’ve ensued if SM was around when Kwan was competing. I imagine her fans would’ve been just as bad or worse thar Hanyu’s. Regarding the 4A, if Ilia does land it first and in competition I wonder how Hanyu will respond? My understanding is he not only wants to land the 4A but wants to be the first. If someone beats him to the punch I think that may take the wind out of his sails.

Though I can agree that Kate should’ve got more focus, overall what we did get of her worked for me. I think this was mainly due to SA’s nuanced acting and the dialogue (though very little) we did get that provided insight into her character. When the season ended I was more frustrated about not getting enough Kate/Anthony happily married than story for Kate herself. Me neither. Though I enjoyed S1 and initially thought that overall it was better than S2, I’ve found myself re-watching S2 numerous times. And have been involved in discussions on and offline about this season. Something that did not happen with S1. So perhaps my original thought was wrong and I actually find S2 better than S1 considering how I’ve been more engaged with watching and discussing the former rather than the latter. Lol. Though I’m not holding my breath, I do hope that S3 will of course give us a lot more of Kate/Anthony, but also more insight into Kate. It would be interesting to see how her mother’s death impacted her and subsequently how it affects her approach to being a wife, and eventually a mother. I know that the writers didn’t want a similar ending to this season as last, but I found it surprising that Kate/Anthony had been on their honeymoon for 6 months, and we know getting it in every single day, probably numerous times a day with their passion Lol, but she didn’t come back pregnant. I’m glad they are still child free. I’d like to enjoy them as a hot married couple with no little ones yet. But I do wonder if fertility issues may be something they explore with the couple next season? Or will they just be mysteriously child-free until the writers decide to have Kate suddenly come up pregnant. Whatever is decided, I hope the writers realize they have a powerhouse in SA/JB. I know they have other stories to tell and other characters to focus on, but I think if Kate/Anthony aren’t the focus, they should have be co-leading next (and perhaps future) season/s or be leading a very strong B storyline during the season.

Okay. She seemed like a very strong woman. Once she saw the church for what it was she got the hell on and warned her husband and he wisely followed suit. But to the other part of your statement, I also can't understand how someone can think it's okay to say that if something happens to them their child (or children), who are human beings, will be left to the church like they're chattel. Baffling and outrageous to say the least. This. As morbid as it may be I do have to wonder what self-righteous Gwen thought as their plane crashed into that lake? Did she recall all those times she told people bad things were happening to them because they'd done something horrible and needed to repent? Or did the thought not cross her mind at all due to her belief in her own self-righteousness which made her incapable of applying the logic she used to judge others on herself? I felt so bad for Joe Lara's Ex. I cannot even imagine the fear and horror she felt during that period when she had no idea what had happened to her daughter. Thank goodness she was not on that plane. Like one of the gentleman said, I can't recall his name, who ever took over the church needed to have Gwen's same drive to control and the minions to follow them and enforce the rules of the church etc. I just don't think Elizabeth has that type of grit at all, which is why the church is now being run by what appears to be multiple people. What I also found interesting is that it was discovered that Gwen left nothing to Remnant. So Elizabeth and Michael are likely set financially whether they associate with the church or not. That's probably one reason why Michael filed for divorce and disappeared from the church, he didn't need to play the game anymore. He can have a life of financial stability without having to be involved with the church.
