  1. Interesting that Ross and Chandler are singled out as suffering from being the "Nice" character. Chandler's sarcasm and Ross' nerdiness helped them being quirky enough to avoid that title. I think the character on Friends that may have been given the "Nice" person problem is Monica. Monica was certainly the "straight" character on the show, and they made her more "less straight" as seasons wore on in order to make her "interesting". Will & Grace suffered from that same problem, when Jack and Karen got so much of the accolades. Maybe it's less an issue of being "nice" and just being the "straight" character on the show. An example is Jack on Lost. Jack is not all that nice, but he's also not as quirky as the other characters on the show. Also, the lead character gets a lot of flack for just being the lead character. I mean, they get so much more attention than the supporting characters, it's so not fair! I can't think of one character that is overpraised for being "nice". If anything, they get their asses kicked from their first scene of the pilot. Especially, the female love interests of the leading comic book hero.
  2. I have enjoyed Wayward Pines quite a bit and hope it comes back next season.
  3. I am a sucker for sibling bonding, so that final scene with Cat and Heather kinda broke my heart.
  4. TONS. Dawson on Dawson's Creek. I liked him and I thought he was reasonably upset that his best friend would get it on with his soulmate, blah, blah. Julie on Felicity. I think the show lost quite a bit with her absence. I thought her rape storyline was excellent. Also, again, I loved how she just HATED Felicity (who I loved, btw!) that first part of the second season. That subway episode was so much fun! Vanessa on Gossip Girl. Honestly, anyone who hates all of the other characters on the show is fine with me. Lucy Knight on ER. She got way too much flak. I also think she was probably the most realistic young intern on the show. Laurel on Arrow. I think she's fun. I like how she's still growing as a heroine. Declan on Revenge. I was never bothered by the accent. I didn't realize Ross on Friends was that disliked. I don't think any one character on that show was particularly more popular or unpopular than the other. There are too many iconic Ross moments that too many people cherish (They were on a break, your/you're, the leather pants, his silent swearing).
  5. I root for them too. I want Kate and Theresa to rule everything. Theresa's utter hatred for the teacher is so fantastic. Actually, I think the show does an excellent job with the female characters. Less so with the men. But I am still really digging this show.
  6. I like/love Fat Monica. I liked how Courtney (and the writers) played her as being quite happy. She wasn't some sadsacked and lonely person. I liked her feistiness. Anyways, I like that Monica wasn't one of those skinny female characters who ate all she wanted and was still skinny, i.e. that Gilmore Girl, Tina Fey, Grace on Will & Grace, etc. She worked at it--a lot.
  7. I think that's the point of the show. No matter how idyllic the setting, you can't control people's yearning for freedom. If told the truth, I don't think I would try to continue the charade of running a toy store, at the very least. I can certainly understand the feeling of wanting to combat those Abbies. And I if were surrounded by a bunch of Preppers 3000 years from now, I would probably want to kill myself too. I'm really enjoying the show.
  8. I think playing the unlikeable character who gets to say the funny, quirky, snarky quips is pretty darn easy these days. The tougher role is the unlikeable character who's written in a serious, non-humourous manner. Basically, anyone who has to be the "wet blanket" of the show. I'm thinking Maid Marion on "Once Upon a Time" or Ana Lucia on "Lost" or Vanessa on "Gossip Girl".
  9. I am really, really, really liking this show. I am liking how each member of the Burke family is discovering the truth. I have to say, Theresa is my absolute favourite character. I just buy everything she does. There is an Everywoman aspect to her actions, which I much enjoy. I think certain adults like the teacher, the nurse, Sheriff Pope, etc. "volunteered" back in 2014 so that's why they knew the Truth. Sheriff Pope was probably a Sheriff in 2014 Wayward Pines.
  10. I think quite a few shows with strong ensembles (especially sitcoms, because there are more scenes with the whole cast together so they have to work together more often) have had to deal with complaints from a few guest stars about how the cast was too cliquey. I think Cheers, Seinfeld and Friends were handed those complaints too. Although, my favourite store was how Andre Agassi was soooo upset over Brooke Shields' "intimate" scenes with Matt LeBlanc. Of the newer shows, Glee is certainly one show I'd like to know more about wrt its behind the scenes. I also think a book on American Idol in a style like the one done for SNL would work really really well.
  11. Really enjoying the show. I also enjoy seeing Hope Davis in a slightly different role. I have no clue what is going to happen, just enjoying the ride and looking forward to seeing which famous person dies next.
  12. I think he and Johnny will work well together, but I'm really looking forward to seeing Noble act with Lucy. With Sleepy Hollow, he was all evil and annoying. I think if he gets scenes with Watson, then we'll likely see a more emotional and insecure side. Which is what I enjoyed most when it came to Noble's work on Fringe. I'm assuming that at least for the first portion of the season next year, any scenes between Noble and Miller will involve Noble being all mean and stoney, and Miller being all angsty and angry. Although, I do have my reservations. I pretty much hated any episode involving Sherlock's brother.
  13. I want to say that Chandler on Friends started it. A scene where, say, Ross and Rachel had a massive fight, so in an attempt to lighten the mood, Chandler says something like "So....cake mixes, a godsend or an evil to actual baking?"
  14. To me, actors attending conventions, press junkets, etc. is like me having to attend business functions, etc. Establishing and growing a business network is just part of a lot of people's jobs. I would love not having to be nice to my clients or just not interact with them--just get the job done and be done with it. Because some of my clients suck. But I have to be nice to them too.
  15. I really like Haley and Andy together, but the lack of progression is frustrating. Posters have mentioned Ross and Rachel, but they did get together (for a short while, granted) midway through the second season. Rachel even discovered Ross' feelings at the end of the first season. Haley and Andy haven't even reached that point yet. I have never loved this show, but I appreciate its consistency. I thought this season was one of the better ones. I think the writers seem to have a better handle now for all the young characters--they were a bit lost earlier in the season. I think MF should be given a lot of credit for really successfully transitioning Haley to a really valuable character post-high school. I think they have the same chance of success with Alex. It helps that Alex's post-HS storylines will be quite different from Haley's. Manny and Luke are still the weakspots, but I do think the writers have improved their handling of them over the season.
  16. I am really loving this show. I thought the ending was darn freaky. Given that this is based on a series of books, I'm gonna assume that we did not hear dinosaurs or smoke monsters. Not sure when the books were written, but they are really smoke monsters, then we would've either heard comments like "OMG, Lost just ripped off the Wayward Pines books!" or, alternatively, "OMG, the Wayward Pine books just ripped off Lost!". I loved that Matt Dillon just killed off the sheriff. Didn't let him live.
  17. I loved the episode. I am a big supporter of Jules. It must not have been easy being married to a guy who slept around, having a limited education, raising a child essentially on her own, and building up a successful business. I also like her exuberance. So many lead characters are so sarcastic and sardonic, rolling their eyes at the idiosyncrasies of the supporting characters. I think she's quite the opposite of trying to get the others to change--she's really quite accepting of the others. Ellie is still not nice. Tom is still creepy. I can't see any of the other characters being the "lead" to this show. This season was wildly uneven, with a lot of truly awful episodes. But overall, I will have a great fondness for this series. There really haven't been too many standout sitcoms this decade. I think Cougar Town should be mentioned in a list of elite sitcoms of the 2010's (have no idea what term you use to describe this decade).
  18. I actually like the Bonnie/Elena twist. Whatever the last season ends up being, it seems inevitable that the big storyline will involve finding a cure that will allow both Bonnie and Elena to stay alive. I expect Nina to show up in the last 1-3 episodes of the show. I think the big twist that will culminate whenever they do end up finding the cure is that all of Elena's doppelgangers will survive too--including Katherine. I also think Matt will do all he can to protect Bonnie. He and Bonnie are my one big couple on this show. Ugh, Caroline. I haven't forgiven her for her awful (and boring) behaviour the last several episodes. She has not atoned for her misdeeds nor suffered any consequences. I don't love Lily but I think the actress is quite good. There's still potential to be mined. But Enzo is utterly useless.
  19. Good finale to a good season. Looking forward to the next chapter! I am a bit surprised that this Sin Rostro storyline will extend beyond the season. I don't love Luisa, but I would be disappointed that she's an imposter after her bittersweet scenes with Rafael. Otherwise, I have no clue who Sin Rostro is and why she would want Jane's baby.
  20. I would imagine that come 2025 or 2030, FOX could resurrect this show (it'll be interesting what the TV landscape will be like by that time) and it'll be extremely popular. I agree with previous posters that when you are trying to find a talented within a certain demographic, the well will eventually get dry. It's not like the current pop scene is brimming with extremely talented vocalists. Selena Gomez? Meghan Trainor? Arianna Grande? Rhianna? Katy Perry? Jason Derulo? No thanks. There are a few exceptions--like Adele and Sam Smith, but they're not American!
  21. Catching up on episodes, I just finished this one. I am so on Jane's side. I am tired of characters like Petra being written in a "sympathetic" manner because they didn't really know how evil their mother was. WHATEVER. Also, Gina just nailed it this episode.
  22. I think this could be one of those shows where it can drastically improve from its first season. I think the writers and Juliette Lewis will have a better handle on Cornell. And they won't need to be so loyal to the Australian series.
  23. I was FF through a lot of the episodes but I did watch the finale all the way through. I am surprised how emotionally engaged I got. Watching Dave in the car crumbling *really* got to me. And Cornell's final scene, where she is *determined* to capture Abbey. Given my utter hatred for both characters at the start, totally caught me off-guard. That said, I still don't get how Ben was such a strong suspect. And I know that I won't sit through another character wrongly accused 90% of the season. Not sure how they can avoid that without it just being another procedural.
  24. I actually think Arrow has had a fantastic season so far. It's my favourite season by far. I like the team of Thea, Felicity, Diggle, Laurel, Sara and Nyssa. I mean, look at how many women I listed. I think it's great!
  25. I am really enjoying Christina on the show. Not sure how long she's gonna stay, but I like her a lot. The bigger surprise is how much I am liking Luke. I think a lot, if not all, of my animosity towards that character/actor was how much I HATED him on Smash. HATE! I don't find Daphne's feelings all that out-of-nowhere. She's known and loved Deacon for a long, long time. Her reaction when she found out that her mom and "Uncle Deacon" were now a couple was nicely nuanced. Anyways, I prefer this girl's acting over the one playing Maddie.
