  1. I love that Sandra watches The Vampire Diaries. Deliciousness. Hee.
  2. Regarding the Jack buying the house discussion, it reminds me of the HGTV show, Property Virgins. After viewing a bunch of homes, the Virgin would select a house, make an offer, and wait to see if it was accepted. If accepted, the Virgin and the Realtor Host would celebrate. The Virgin bought a house! But they hadn't yet become the registered owners. Things like the mortgage, etc need to be completed. As for the Caesar Salad discussion, count me as one who orders with dressing on the side and am not ashamed of it. I don't ever order salads as the main course, but as a side dish. I have the dressing on the side. I actually hate Ceasars dressing, but I like lettuce, cheese, bacon and LOVE croutons. A house salad is different for every restaurant and it can have things I don't like, such as cranberries. UGH, I hate cranberries. I would rather not have any dressing (except honey mustard) but I don't want the look from the waitstaff and the other patrons. I guess I was right.
  3. Regarding whether one needs spousal consent when buying property: Yes, it could be the case that the home would be in Jack's name only, but even if it's not the case, it's pretty common for one spouse to sign the contract and then add the other spouse to the contract later. Maybe the time to offer is limited, the other spouse is out of town, etc. The good realtors usually insert a clause in the contract which would allow the buyer to add his/her spouse to contract without getting the seller's consent.
  4. That exchange between Rebecca and her mom made me think that Rebecca was in a few pageants back in the day. And the mom was a scary stage mom. I wonder what the dad is like. They seem well off. I hope that even during the flashbacks, Rebecca's parents can evolve, not just stuck. I can see Rebecca's dad in a similar field as Randall, and may even encourage Randall to go to business school. I hope we see more of Jack's mom. Depression runs in the family and the mother's lack of self worth mirrors Kate's somewhat. Given how terrible Jack and Rebecca's parents are, the trio turned out pretty well.
  5. With Canadian shows that are funded by the government, I am assuming there are requirements that a certain percentage of the cast and crew is Canadian. I mean, Degrassi consists of only Ontario actors, not even from other provinces.
  6. I think the idea of an album of duets that track their relationship is a pretty good idea. If I were a big fan of Deacon and or Rayna, I would really look forward to it. Aren't most songs written from personal experience? Their difficult relationship with their stupid daughter can be written as a song without it being too obvious.
  7. I love the episode. That final scene was very well done. And Sandra may be my favourite character on TV.
  8. I don't watch GA but I am shocked Patrick was fired. Patrick still wanted to be on the show?
  9. I loved those big dance birthday productions on the Cosby Show. And I enjoyed their dancing title sequences. Angela Chase dancing to Blister in the Sun in her bedroom upon realizing she is over Jordan Catalano on My So-Called Life.
  10. When it comes to states where there is a lot of choice, like New York and California, I favour shows that make we want to visit the place and experience what the characters are experiencing. That's why shows like Seinfeld, Friends and the like have me associate NYC more than Law and Order. Talk shows also make a big impression on me even when they're filmed in a Soundstage. Regis talking about that Italian restaurant in NYC. Oprah is very much Chicago to me. Same for Siskel and Ebert.
  11. Pitch took longer for me to connect. Flashbacks don't work on that show. I think the show is pretty diverse. Three prominent black characters, 2 Hispanic characters, 3 white characters and an Asian character. Granted, it took awhile for the writers to write Blip and Evelyn in an interesting way. I am to the point now that I will follow Evelyn'so journey as close I do Ginny's.
  12. I think it's just the way Mandy talks. I am sure she is a lovely person, but her manner of speech has a slight condescending undercurrent, as if her views or opinions have never been challenged. She is right and that is that. That is how she talks in virtually everything I have seen from her. That is why Mandy does better playing really bitchy characters like the one she played in the Princess Diaries. Mandy certainly has a sunny personality (her smile is such a great quality) but doesn't have that Girl Next door quality like, say, Bullock. Or that snarky quality that Roberts had in her days and Lawrence possesses now. She fits with this more earnest show. The writers don't give Rebecca the funny joke or impassioned speech. She gets lines which hurt the kids even though Rebecca never intended her words to have that effect. But it's not just the writers. Mandy does a good job of creating a different chemistry with the various characters. I am fascinated with her work with Young William, for instance. And I buy her marriage to Miguel. I have seen that with my elders who have had a later relationship. May not be the romance of a lifetime, but a comfortable companionship.
  13. I am Mandy's biggest fan for this show. I think the writers do a good jobs of getting that mean girl spirit that exists in Mandy. I can see why people don't love or even like her, but I think she's perfect.
  14. I loved it soooo much. Rayna really shined tonight. I am living for her angst. I would like to see her deal with the deaths of her parents through music. My only problem was that I couldn't understand one word coming out of Deacon'so mouth.
  15. These last two epsidoes really really really really worked for me. I think the absence of flashbacks is the main difference. This was a very strong Ginnie centric episode, but due to no flashbacks, there was more time to develop side characters like Evelyn, who was sooooo good in this episode. I think a restaurant idea could work as another place for the players to hang out, but my dream? A agency company started by Amelia and Evelyn, y'all!
  16. Iirc, Jack and Rebecca always put sunscreen on Randall. Randall, being a kid and not wanting to put sunscreen, asked whether he really needed it. The parents said of course he needed it, but were not 100 percent sure.
  17. That is the last thing I saw Alan on. He was excellent. I actually did feel sorry for Alan Thicke. RIP.
  18. I think the "You have such a pretty face" comment gets a negative reaction from the recipient because the utterance is often said in a sad, wisftul way, and the sentence trails off, as if there's more to say (i.e. "If only you lost the weight!").
  19. I think Justin provides a different energy for the show. This Xmas episode highlighted what I like best about the Kevin episode. I like his confidence, his positivity, and his appreciation for other people's talents. He lightens up the show, which can get too heavy at times. In terms of acting, I think Justin is very good at reacting, listening. He was really good at displaying his growing interest in Sloane's storytelling. He gave depth to his character without having to say anything.
  20. I have such affection for these characters. I like how they totally failed at preserving the history. I am looking forward to seeing the aftereffects. I Suspects that USB will come in handy. Pass me the tissues.
  21. I loved this episode so much. While there were some stereotypical elements in the portrayal of Sloane's family, I don't mind it because I think it's understandable when showing a large group of people who won't appear again, if ever. Besides, there were elements that defied convention. I am thinking the parents choosing Sloane to tell the story is an example. I use Friends as an example, where the Gellers favoured Ross over Monica by a large margin. The parents' love for Sloane was obvious. Even the sister wasn't 100% awful. I am a lawyer and everywhere I worked, the firm would open on Xmas Eve but close early. I can see this with a doctor's office, especially for a consultation. I totally bought the Kate and Rebecca relationship, and bought Mandy being significantly older than Chrissy. When Kate was wishing that just 1 person supported her decision, I am hoping that 1 person is Miguel.
  22. Although we didn't see it, Kate did meet Olivia at the dinner the night before. I think hating on Olivia is relatively instantaneous.
  23. Regarding the Kate/Olivia fight. I think Kate has had to deal with various women in Kevin's life (from high school to Hollywood) and Olivia, despite her protestations, is not that much different. Sure, there may have been women who were hanging on to Kevin (which I suspect Kate may not have had as big a problem about), but I suspect that Kevin has a thing for women who plays it hard to get. Mommy issues and all. Olivia in that scene was probably her least offensive in that episode. Kate went on the attack first (loved it), so I didn't mind that Olivia fought back. Everything else, on the other hand...
  24. Also, Olivia had a whole monologue about how her mother celebrated Christmas. I suppose her father could be Jewish, but I doubt it.
  25. I don't know how much of William's conversation that Rebecca heard before bolting out the room, but there were some things he said that would make me pause. For instance, him suggesting that he could get a cot for Randall to sleep over. My parents didn't allow me to go on sleepovers with long-time friends. As for Jack's physique, he reminds me of Tony Danza. Not everyone was hairy like Tom Selleck.
