  1. Perhaps she doesn't actually know what dashing means in that context, and thinks it's a complimentary term for someone who moves really fast...
  2. On a personal level it bothers me, because marriage isn't only a religious right. If it was atheists couldn't get married, and religious couples wouldn't need a state license for their marriage to be legal. It is a human right. So when I hear people say they don't believe I should have the right to get married, the same right they have regardless of their beliefs, purely because they are heterosexual, it makes me feel like they consider me to be less than human, even if that isn't their intention.
  3. Also plenty of people are abused and terrorized by people who are physically smaller than them. It often starts slowly with things they wouldn't recognize as abuse, until it reaches a point where they afraid to fight back or leave, because they honestly believe it will be a death sentence for them if they try. (Not saying that's what's going on here, but to say the Pris shouldn't be frightened of her creepy husband because of his size...well, it doesn't work that way.)
  4. Congratulations to you on your wedding and family. I'm not religious at all and don't see why people who follow a bible I don't believe in should have a say in whether I can get married. It's absurd. It also bothers me that people always quote the Old Testament when speaking against marriage equality, while disregarding so many of the other Old Testament rules (you either follow it or you don't, you don't pick and choose the bits you like), especially when they bring Jesus into it. Even I know that Jesus is New Testament, which says nothing against homosexuality, but does say a whole lot about love and acceptance.
  5. I hope Jedi means they are huge Star Wars fans, and also watch other mainstream TV. Most of the girls were wearing jeans, so that's a positive sign for being slightly more 'normal'.
  6. If my life plan was to always have kids take care of me, I'd being doing everything I could to have them educated and gainfully employed, so they had the resources to take care of me properly.
  7. I love Root, I thinks she's an amazing character, and Amy Acker does a brilliant job playing her.
  8. I'd be happy if someone in production was sneaking on the kind of pop ups they didn't want us to see: 'if all the adult Duggar kids were payed individually, JB would lose this much money'.
  9. I wondered that when I read about Ben scrubbing toilets. I would have thought that would be considered women's work by JB. Although maybe that was the point, JB thinking he's funny by making Ben do what he considers women's work.
  10. I've always wondered why they didn't just spell her name Jinjer, since they weren't going with the traditional spelling anyway. There'd be no pronunciation issues (the first time I saw it I was all "what the hell king of name is Jinger, thinking like so many that it was said with a hard G), and there's an extra j in the name that way.
  11. The using toilet water didn't bother me so much. Unless it's a recycled system, or the toilet hadn't been flushed, most toilet water is as clean as tap water. And taps/sinks in public bathrooms (and a lot of private ones) have just as many gross germs on them as toilet bowls do.
  12. I wonder if Jessa would have still been a bully if she'd been treated like the boys instead of being a J-Slave. I bullied my little brother, often until he was in tears, and it was really all just because I was frustrated that he was allowed to do certain things and play with specific toys that my dad wouldn't let me do or have, because I was a girl, even though I knew I'd be just as good and have just as much fun, if they'd only let me. Once dad was out of the house, and I was allowed to climb trees, and play with robots and toy cars, I got along great with my brother, and we're still really good friends as adults. I could see someone with Jessa's temperament being mad at what she considers special treatment for the boys, and taking it out on the other kids.
  13. My youngest sister is in between our nieces and nephew in age range. She's 20 to their 21 and 19. They've always just called me by my first name, even though I was always referred to as Aunty Kathryn when my sister was talking to them about me, but they call her Aunt Chelsea, because it amuses all three of them.
  14. I wonder if they'd actually follow that particular rule, as it's something Orthodox Jewish women still do. Although they may not know that given their happy ignorance of other religions. Even though they do the abstain for however many days after a birth, I'd think they'd skip the abstain after a period rule, because it would cut into "always available" time.
  15. My family aren't huggers or touchers, my BIL's family is. The first time he casually threw his arm over my shoulders in greeting startled the hell out of me. My niece & nephew take more after that side of their family, and even now they're 19 and 21 will grab you in a hug, even if they've run into you while surrounded by a group of their friends. I do find it interesting of myself, that I look at Jessa and think, she's too young for all this, but meanwhile, my 21 year old niece has been living out of home with her boyfriend for over a year. Maybe it's that my niece is working, going to Uni, and is an equal in the household that makes her situation seem fine to me...
  16. I'd think maybe it was also a subtle clue that they were naming the kid Isaiah, but when have they ever been subtle. Micks Picks, a friend of mine got so sick of being asked, she started fake crying and saying, really soft and hurt sounding "I can't have kids, I'm infertile" anytime she got asked. She hopes that's stopped them asking anyone else as well.
  17. True story: my family has never been religious, and my grandmother had multiple affairs while my grandpa was away for work (3 of her children were not his). When she wanted time alone with her boyfriends on Saturday mornings, she would send my mother, aunt & uncles to the local Protestant church kids club, because it was free. My extremely competitive, but not at all religious aunt had quite a few awards for bible passage memorization. The poor protestant minister had no idea his club was helping facilitate adultery, and the winner of his contests was someone who didn't care about the source material and just wanted the prize.
  18. I certainly hope nothing untoward has ever happened to those girls, I wouldn't wish that on anyone, but as someone who was abused, I have honestly sometimes watched Jana and wondered if she had become an "always available" substitute for the times when Michelle wasn't. Of course I'd much rather be wrong than right about this, and hope it's just my own experiences colouring my view.
  19. I have webbed toes and flat feet, and go barefoot as often as possible, because I find shoes horribly uncomfortable. At work I'm lucky to get away with wearing these cheap flat sandshoes, that cover the base rule of 'must be black, with enclosed toes', and are bearable because they have a wider toe area, and no built in arch support, which I find excruciatingly painful, and even then I take them off at my desk. So I wouldn't rule out foot problems.
  20. I remember having the biggest argument with a chick I worked with when I was15 who wouldn't use tampons because, and this is a direct quote "I don't want to lose my virginity until I'm married". She called me a slut right to my face when I said I'd used them since I was 12, and I couldn't make her understand that you can still be a virgin and use tampons.
  21. I'm so pale I'm almost see through, and I burn at the drop of a hat - good thing my career in IT, and my love of reading in bed, while having TV marathons keeps me indoors as much as possible - and I used to make my own sunburn cream by making really strong willowbark tea, and mixing it into some vitamin e cream. It took away the pain and the redness pretty much straight away. (Willowbark for those who don't know, contains the same stuff that's in aspirin).
  22. Are we supposed to think Josh's comment about how she'll tell you what she thinks, and stands up for herself is a bad thing? I guess in their world it is if you're a woman, but where I'm from, that's a good thing. As much as I have issues with some of the stuff she says/does, I have to say, good for Jessa, not being completely beaten down by that life.
  23. There's a book by Dean Koontz where one of the characters has a special glove he puts on in the shower so he's not touching naked flesh with his bare hand. I work with a woman married to a Rick, but in their case his full name is Patrick.
  24. As someone who is not religious, but gets the public holidays off work, I plan on sleeping in every day. I'll probably eat some chocolate, and maybe marathon Rookie Blue. You all are welcome to remotely join me, by doing this in your own homes.
  25. Sabrina Carpenter looks so much like Britt Robertson to me sometimes. I need to see them play sisters in something.
