The Lonely Js Club: James, Jackson & Johannah
Temperance replied to SpaghettiTuesdays's topic in Counting On
who is the other guy? -
I think it's sweet that Nathan is wearing a promise ring. It's to show he has someone and is currently not looking for someone else. Historically only women wore wedding rings, but for a long time men and women have been wearing them. I'm kind of impressed by that. These people usually are extremely patriarchal and limited in their thinking about gender roles. If she's not fundie, I hope she runs for the hills, because of the rest of their beliefs.

I don't see the pink sandals with white tube socks. I don't understand the problem with pink sandals and white tube socks. Most of Jill's kids (with the exception of the youngest) are old enough to dress themselves. The little girl probably likes the look of white socks and pink sandals. Hopefully her kids get some say in what they wear. That one of her daughters is wearing pink sandals with white tube socks doesn't say anything about what kind of a mother she is.

I'm not sure why people would want a fountain pen. I guess it looks nice, but I'll stick with ballpoint. An older relative of mine was traumatised by a teacher who made them used fountain pens. My relative had hard time with the pens, which tended to make more of a mess and this teacher deducted major points for messy pages.

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events
Temperance replied to maraleia's topic in Counting On
Yes it's really noticeable especially since the birth of Maryella, which was barely mentioned on the show. It was a little referenced in the Christmas episode where JB and Michelle held their three youngest grandbabies and everyone talked about grandchildren. It could be that since Jill and Derick left; TPTB (probably TLC) decided they didn't need to feature every child. And unsavory Josh, and his wife Anna would be the ones to downplay most. Especially with so many new couples to feature. And a large number of viewers even fans, don't like Josh. Yes many of the most devoted fans want Josh back and their fairytale family intact, but not all of them feel that way. And it's easier to think of well of someone when you don't have to see them. Still I'm surprised JB and Michelle are okay with their oldest being sidelined. Anything for television I guess. Although I never bought the theory that he is their favorite, I think they went out of their way to protect him to protect themselves and their own reputation as parents. -
We've been talking about this in the Lonely J thread. I think they will announce after next week's episode with an article in the social press (People, Us Weekly, etc.).

The Lonely Js Club: James, Jackson & Johannah

I think JB once said incest should be punishable by death. (This was a long time ago when he was running for office.) @Churchhoney Since you were following his campaing, I bet you remember something about this. As for a courtship, I think it will be Jeremiah. However I'm not sure where the article is from and it may not be accurate. Since Jed/Jer are the oldest single sons, it seems more logical that it would be one of them. I wouldn't be surprise if Jason or James though. -
Yes that was true of last week's episode. They said JD "went from Bachelor to the rapture to fatherhood". It sounds weird to say that about married man. Their daughter was born 2 months after their first wedding anniversary.

The "breakout stars" from Counting On will be heavily featured in tonight's episode. The word "Dad-chelor" is dumb although I guess a party to celebrate fatherhood is okay as they don't light anything on fire. And I bet y'all can guess Joy's and Austin's news if you think back to the beginning of the year when this was filmed.

Josiah and Lauren: He Has To Marry Somebody

That looks like a screenshot of Lauren so I can't judge it too much. Bella is adorable and so is the romper she is wearing. -
Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events
Temperance replied to maraleia's topic in Counting On
I'm trying to remember what Anna said and I can't, but Anna had some snarky comment about in-laws when they were going to the TTH for a sex reveal. (It was the one with flamingoes.) Anna knows she probably won't have as many kids as Michelle since they only have new babies every other year and the kids are more spreadout in age than her in-laws. -
But what the article is actually about is how reddit users think Michelle is lost since she can't be pregnant any more.

You really see the old Gothard modesty standards. In the hospital picture, Jana has two shirts and the other girls have jumpers over blouses like a school uniform. What really strikes me are the collars. Both pictures they all have collars. They don't wear collared shirts or scarves all the time now.

Chelsy Bontrager Maxwell has a new blog post about her sister Allison's wedding. Allisonwedding Allison got married over three weeks. The pictures make it look like a beautiful wedding, but I watched the livestream and it was the worst wedding I've watched or been to. Allison's dress and veil were beautiful and made by an Etsy seamstress. Chelsy got her bridesmaid dress from Citrus and Lemon! The last picture is of the Bontragers; Marlin and Becky, their 10 kids, 5 in-laws including the groom, 6 grandchildren. (Carolina was heavily pregnant with the newest grandchild Jemima Virtue!) Chelsy says this about the picture: "This is one of my very favorites of the professional pictures, because it is such an example of God's goodness to my family! Only five years ago we were a tribe of twelve--two parents and ten very single singles. 😃 At the beginning of 2016, my parents began to very seriously fast and pray for marriages in our family. And what do you know, as my dad would say, "they started dropping like flies". 😃 Four of us got married in 2017, making our number 16. Two grandbabies arrived in 2018, making our number 18. Two more grandbabies in 2019, making our number 20. Another marriage and three more grand babies in 2020, at the time of this post, with granddbaby #8 arriving, Lord willing, in early December. By the end of 2020, our clan of original 12 will have just over doubled to the number of 25! Wow!"

Joy and Austin: This One Time At Family Camp
Temperance replied to frenchtoast's topic in Counting On
Assuming youtube stays strong as a platform and doesn't take stronger measures to protect children's privacy. I've seen youtubers say they're worried about the longevity of the site. I suppose something else could replace youtube eventually, but there are always trade-offs and risks. -

They will be featured in the rest of the season and will announce this pregnancy (Evelyn) at least. -
The Lonely Bates Club: Still Looking for Love
Temperance replied to PrincessPurrsALot's topic in Bringing Up Bates
It could, but new courtships help ratings. Also he's 27. In the fundie world, that's age for settling down male or female. -
Michaella and Brandon: He Writes Fairy Tales
Temperance replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Bringing Up Bates
Again I feel very sorry for any LGBTQ+ patients or people who don't share Michael's beliefs and have to interact with her. I have little hope that she and Brandon have evolved in any meaningful sense from their childhoods. At least she has a plan if the show and IBLP go under. Her brothers should take notes.
