S20.E11: The Finale / S20.E12: After The Final Rose

Same thing goes in my experience for Catholics. -
I'm mostly annoyed about Whitney Cummings's stunt tonight. I get that sometimes Chris randomly decides to let three people into for the win, but I didn't feel like her contributions were strong enough and I also dislike that she just decided to whine and force her way in. What's to stop people from doing that every time? I mean sure it's a silly thing and a silly game and a silly show, but by that logic Whitney was overly upset. I don't know, she's not my favorite comic and I'm not inclined to favor her, but it still came off badly to me. I didn't like FTW tonight anyway, which seemed weak. Chris reciting pi was adorable though.

S20.E11: The Finale / S20.E12: After The Final Rose
Temperance replied to OnceSane's topic in The Bachelor
So I started watching about 90 minutes into the show. The part I started with was Ben looking at the rings (which were slightly better than Neil's rings for Nick, but not much). Then the girls showed up. Not sure if it was the editing or what, but Jo Jo was saying she been dreaming of getting engaged since she was a little girl and Lauren was saying she hadn't planned on it but she loved Ben. It made Lauren look better and more sincere, but they both seemed nice and pretty to me. It was cruel of Ben and the producers to let Jo Jo go on and on in her speech. I know it's considered polite to let someone talk, but in my opinion it would be much more polite to cut her off and say I'm going with Lauren. Jo Jo was showing off her boobs, but Lauren's dress was tight and I could totally see the outlines of her nipples. It was a pretty color on her (deep blue), but she needed a bra. Jo Jo will make a great Bachelorette. I think Ben and Lauren seem good together. They do seem happy. They all seem young to me. I noticed Lauren was wearing a white lace dress which seemed weddingish enough. Did she think she might be getting married? Ben called her father to ask permission, he asked her again since he felt guilty "asking on the phone" and wanted her family present. Then Ben got to tell CH if they were getting married that night. (Also the fathers seemed to talk more than the mothers.) Fortunately Lauren seems to be okay with Ben's headship. -
I blame her upbringing on this one. Her parents didn't want to pay for real shoes for their girls and made them walk all over in those stupid flip-flops. They went everywhere in them including all of their volunteer activities including going to places like construction sites (places where real shoes are usually required in case someone drops a nail, a hammer, etc.) and all kinds of places where they could have injured themselves. If her parents didn't care or know to protect their kids' feet, why would Jill think to protect her feet?
-
To be fair I think she said it before Israel was born. But she definitely said she wanted as many if not more kids as her parents (and I think more than once). The conversation I referred to was at her wedding right before she and her dad walked down the aisle and she married Derrick.

So on the news tonight they said that WHO (World Health Organization) is advising any pregnant women against traveling to places where Zika is spreading. While I believe Jill isn't pregnant, I am literally shocked if she isn't. It may seem like she just had a baby, but in her world 11 months (and more) is a lot between pregnancies. Usually in my experience people who want big families have at least the first two closer together. So either a) they are not worrying she might be pregnant or get pregnant and Zika, because they don't know what it is and it won't happen to them. or b) They are not worried about being or getting pregnant because they are taking some kind of precautions (Abstinence, etc.) If the latter, then Derrick is more of independent thinker than we give him credit for. I still remember Jill and JimBob's conversation before he walked her down the aisle. She told him that would try to have at least as many kids as him and her mother or even more. In reality she's almost 25 and has one kid. By the time Mechelle was 25 she had four kids.

I did think all of them, but particularly Lord G tried to be good to Edith in this episode. I find Henry rather insipid and think/thought Mary has far more chemistry with Tom. At least Edith has Marigold and her newspaper. Also it's seems historically inaccurate for Mary to be getting married in a white dress, as a widow in her thirties with a child in the 1920s.

But my favorite part was his last line about Velveeta. "There's a cheese you can really fondue with." It's a callback (small one) to Captain America: The First Avenger when Howard brought up fondue and had to explain to Steve what it is. I love Peggy. I agree with Sousa telling her not to go charging in so much. It's better to have more when you confront people and official documents like warrants. I wasn't sure Whitney Frost deliberately killed the director or if somehow her zero matter went off. I can't tell if she is in control of Zero matter and I did think her scar was moving from side to side. I looked it up there was an actress named Whitney at the time. Otherwise I believed Whitney was a male name at the time. I like Wilkes, but he's not my favorite for Peggy. I was happy to see him again and the actors have chemistry. I liked Red on That 70-s Show, but I'm not loving him in this. The fight scene with the assassin was good!

The Lonely Js Club: James, Jackson & Johannah

Not to mention Laura makes them change the word "obey" at their wedding ceremony, because she won't promise to obey him. -
I didn't think the brides were that bad! Keep in mind A Wedding Story and Four Weddings are/were two very different shows. A Wedding Story was a lovely show that aired mostly in the 90's and had very little drama. It started with the couple telling the story of how they got there and then filmed the wedding with minimum fuss. It was before say Yes to the Dress and all the wedding dress shows. Four weddings was a how where the brides went to each other's weddings and graded them all. I never thought either show was that bad, although some of the brides on Four Weddings could be brutal. As for Jill and Derrick the silence doesn't look good, but then they probably feel persecuted since they do in general and a lot of the photos and posts have been criticized and I get the sense they aren't as resilient as Ben and Jessa.

Alex announced the final jeopardy category "English Musical Theater" in a weird voice. My roommate thought he was trying to do a British accent and I thought he sounded like The Count on Sesame Street.

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events
Temperance replied to maraleia's topic in Counting On
I just was watching something where the guy had plenty of hair, but was taking medicine to prevent himself from going bald. The only side effect was the medication lowered his sex drive considerably. Unfortunately they didn't say what medication it was, but it would perfect for Josh and maybe some of the other Duggar boys. JB should look into it. Edited for really bad grammar:sorry! -
Very funny! And I always pictured Dagwood in the rain. I thought they should have accepted "recreational vehicle" for the clue that the Brits call it a caravan, but now I'm not sure. I also was completely confused by Final Jeopardy and so were my roommates. I've heard "Huston, we have a problem", but was just baffled by the wording and even the category itself. Since they were looking for a city, I think U. S. cities would have been better name for the category.

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events
Temperance replied to maraleia's topic in Counting On
I think Anna's statement is all about giving back to the leghumper, thank you for supporting us and keep supporting us through the trial which is going to be bad. It's a reminder to fans to hang in there. "I trust that God will continue to show His love and tenderness toward us and bring beauty from ashes—somehow—as only He can do." I don't think she is pregnant. She may want an M5. If she was pregnant, I think the "somehow" would be left out. It sounds to me as if she's trying to convince herself that somehow this will all be worth it (and it probably won't be). -
I got the sense the Dunbar was a black club of the era. White people (according to the books I've read) could get in without being questioned. Segregation was to keep nonwhites from entering the areas restricted for white people. There weren't the same kind of laws to keep whites from entering predominately black spaces, and whites sneaking into black nightclubs to hear great jazz is a trope as old as the times. My goods: I liked the Dr. Wilkes, and I adore Peggy. I liked Jarvis and Mrs. Jarvis. I really want them to keep Mrs. Jarvis around. That being said she sounded Irish to me at one point. I still liked the character. I'm not sure all women would be jealous of Peggy, and I liked that they weren't simply because she's a woman who works with them. I also like that Anna Jarvis is so feisty (she's Jarvis combat partner) and Violet seems capable (a career as a nurse). (I see Violet not necessarily being evil or dead. I predict her leaving the way Shawn's girlfriend Abigail did on Psych (she left after two confrontations with Yin Yang serial kIller which led her to feel his job was too dangerous for her. Also Fi's boyfriends on Burn Notice (not Michael) remained good guys. One left her partly because she put Michael first, but both had problems with the danger and the illegal but quasi-moral things she and Michael did.) I don't hate Thompson. I'm not sure what his motives are for sending Peggy. I wondered if he was trying to set her with Sousa and doesn't know about Violet (seems likely). I thought his frustration was at the guys being slackjawed and not really saying anything useful. My favorite two moments were Peggy being annoyed at the depravity of Howard's car and Sousa banging his crutch against the desk while worrying about Peggy. I sense modern political relevance in having a senate candidate completely in the pocket of a big corporation. My bad: Dottie is back. I wish the character would disappear. I also couldn't careless about seeing her square with Peggy. I'm not convinced anyone could get anything out of her in interrogation. Neutral: I'm intrigued by Mrs. Frost. It will be interesting to see what happens next.

I liked Edith this week, and one of my roommates said she has the best wardrobe this season. I also got teary eyed at the Carson/Hughes Wedding. Cora snapping was out of character for her to be sure. My roommate also felt that way. Mary looks really happy to see Tom! Daisy is getting on my nerves. My roommate is worried about things go wrong, but I think everyone seems to be happy.

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events
Temperance replied to maraleia's topic in Counting On
The tabloids have been saying so for weeks, but then they think everyone is pregnant. Anna, after four kids, probably looks a little pregnant all the time (not judging her, just saying). I thought Anna was younger than Josh. They were born the same year, but he's born in March and she's born in June so she IS younger and they are both 27 until March. That's what I thought and Wikipedia confirmed it. That the writers of said article aren't bright enough to do 15 secs worth of research (to figure out her real age) should say something about the authenticity of the article. Time will tell, but I doubt she's pregnant. -
Tonight the one guy lost it all in double jeopardy and had 2,400 at the final and Alex said it was "Anyone's game?" The one woman had about 8,000 and the other one had about 11,000. What was Alex talking about?
-
I'm surprised Jill isn't pregnant again (as far as we know) and not as a bad thing. I wonder if Derrick's health has something to do with it?
-
I'm confused by what is going with Anna. Everyone keeps saying she had a miscarriage, but what she said is "I thought I was pregnant, but then this morning..." My interpretation of that line is she either has a regularly irregular cycle and/or that her period was late, or she thought/hoped she might be. I didn't read that as miscarriages necessarily. I don't understand Bates's a house full of kids idea. They have jobs that would leave them almost no time for their family, but if they quit their jobs, then they have no income to support a family. I didn't like the blackmailer simply because to me it was all old news. If this show has a problem, it's a tendency to work backward. I like Carson and Mrs. Hughes storyline. I think part of it was also how she is nervous about her body in terms of just being an older woman and the affects of age on the body. It was sweet, but I felt sorry for Mrs. Patmore caught in the middle although Mrs. Patmore handled it beautifully. I liked the party for the Bates.

I was confused by Alex's pronounciation of tête-à-tête. I don't speak French though.

I'm watching this, Clare Walks. Love your assessments so far; keep them coming. On the second episode I thought the maze would be hard since they made it hard to look up. I liked the teamwork between the girls. On Murder House (castle), Did you know HH Holmes (the villian of the episode) was a real person? He was a 19th century serial killer who owned a creepy house with lots of hidden passages and traps which he used to help kill people. I think it's the only episode so far to be about a real person. Also the first guy was a moron. I loved Drea on his team who kept saying "He's not focusing/paying attention." She was totally right. The last guy freaked on his challenge. I didn't quite blame the Andrea for freaking out on the Labyrinth. Triplets was good. They really worked together. I thought the girl who went last (3rd challenge) wasn't very good at her challenge (which was the puzzle, but she had a lot of help from the hellevator. The guy was really helpful and all three of them really communicated well. I wasn't expecting to like this show, based on the commercials with all the screaming, but I actually am enjoying. I hope they keep it on and I think it needs a chance to build an audience.

I think it doesn't matter who runs away; anyone who runs away is a rebel and a brave soul. Jana always seemed to get along with Anna. Jill was too into following the rules, and Jessa too full of herself for Jana. I've seen Jana seeming to bond with her other sisters now. Keep in mind Gothard had a lot of weird rules involving friends. All the kids were supposed to be equally good friends and all the outside family friends were supposed to be the whole family's friends. I think Jinger, as people have possibly suggested, has been cast aside by Jessa. Feeling hurt and rejected she posted a picture of herself with Joy. It's like getting dumped by your boyfriend and having your friends post pictures of you and your new boyfriend so your ex can see you moved on with someone amazing, and are happy now. That being said I'm not sure Jessa cares.
