  1. I am thinking go buy four keys. they are relatively inexpensive. Don't need to get them matched to another key. Get a key ring that feels comfortable and just keep those keys handy as a weapon. I can't remember the last time I went out after dark, by myself.
  2. I saw that and wonder why. He is relatively young and in the middle of his 10 year plan. Maybe illness? Musk hired him?
  3. I have always thought (and said here) that it isn't just being primaried. "They" can make life miserable for people in a lot of different ways. And, not to rehash Kathy Griffin's obvious tasteless photo, she didn't commit any crimes except for poor taste and after all was said and done but she was harassed for years just to torment her. Don't want to rehash that argument but it is what will happen to dissenters, IMO. Also the SAVE Act is still out there. https://www.snopes.com/news/2025/02/13/save-act-women-voting/
  4. regarding medical costs, remember back when stephen brill did a big article in Newsweek about the charge master that hospital billing uses. And that we were told to "shop around" because there are lower prices to be had. Because that is easy to navigate, with who is in network, out of network, what does the fee include. People in crisis or stress have all the time and mental bandwidth to do this. Imagine a heart attack in a family. One person says call 911 and the other folks say, wait let me call around to the one with the best rates and see if our doctors are in network. And sometimes the best hospitals for a condition are the most expensive. One of my friends was being treated at MD Anderson and they left her in the hall before her treatment until they could be sure her insurance would cover the treatment. Who knows if Christine tried any of shopping around or found what she thought was the best option for Ysabel. I am not a big fan of any of them and yes they should have had insurance but even then it is not that simple.
  5. Agree with most of upthread posters. I don't believe that one or some people can go into any agency and figure in a nano second that the whole operation is fraud and waste. I worked in a state agency where I administered a federal formula grant program. You can bet that I and my coworkers did our best because we were audited regularly and didn't want to have even anything to correct. I don't think we were all that special. My peers in other states were the same way. edited to add that we had all kinds of written rules to follow regarding spending and program outcomes. Nothing was "willy nilly"
  6. I think we should stay alert to this https://www.snopes.com/news/2025/02/13/save-act-women-voting/
  7. I just read Heather Cox Richardson and now I wonder if Musk has some power over tRump who seemed powerless at that strange press thing and is now just a bystander?
  8. I am 81. I did read all the Nancy Drew, Bobbsey Twins, even Hardy Boys available to me(I think most of them were by the same author). My favorites were Taffy's Foal and Baby Island. They weren't part of any series. I had total access to our library - my mother thought reading anything was better than not reading, and when I graduated to my adult card I had no limits. My mother and I sometimes read the same books and a lot of that went over my head, but, I was still reading something.https://www.amazon.com/Taffys-Foal-Elisa-Bialk/dp/B0006ARXOA https://archive.org/details/babyisland0000brin
  9. I keep saying they have been intimidated into cooperating. I only have second hand word on this but why else? Primaried is one thing - threats are another.
  10. I didn't say death threats. There are other kinds of threats. No fly lists, IRS audits, going behind the scenes to family work and schools to cause trouble. This isn't unheard of.
  11. I think from what I have heard that they are afraid of more than being primaried. There have been threats according to a Democrat who was on the Lawrence O'Donnell show on msnbc. I didn't watch but my brother did.
  12. I am still in the camp that believes the threats are not "just" being primaried. I think the threats are like "we know where you live and where your children go to school. How would you like an IRS audit?" Etc. I wonder if a large group of them came forward at the same time revealing this would it dilute the effects and they could work with the Democrats to attempt to restore sanity.
  13. I don't usually comment on your posts, or most posts, but, I think we have all been "fucked over" already and it will show up soon enough for all of us one way or another.
  14. Geeze, sounds awful. I delete it every day after reading comments here. How do they get the audience in? Free snacks? Hire people? Shelter from the cold, I guess.
  15. this show boggles my mind. I guess I watch out of habit. why in the world aren't Nathan and elizabeth planning a wedding? They surely know each other. Have addressed Little Jack and his father. Just drag it along. The books were so much better but I will probably watch this one til the bitter end.
  16. I think the threat was more than being primaried. As in "I know where your family lives"
  17. My brother watched Lawrence O'Donnell on MSNBC last night. For what it's worth he said a democratic lawmaker said his republican colleagues don't agree with what is going on, but that they and their families have been threatened to comply. Anyone else watch/hear/suspect this?
  18. Curious now, since I am just an ordinary quilter, but if the quilter is prize winning, can you share the name? I remember former California Rep. Katie Porter in an interview showing quilts on her wall saying "my mother made these" and it took me longer than a minute to realize that she was talking about Liz Porter of Fons and Porter fame. I agree about JD Vance. I wonder what Mrs. Vance thinks of all this.
  19. Totally agree
  20. Sadly for some reason I watched a few talk shows this weekend and listened to some satellite radio and the democratic legislators said "basically there is nothing we can do because they outnumber us, so go vote at midterms". Seriously? Nothing?
  21. OMG yes. I am in a quilting group. Half like me and half "as a Christian" who espouse anything but Christian values. I go and stay until that talk starts and then pack up my stuff and leave. I wish I never knew what those folks think, and why they have to say it is beyond me. Just sew and talk about fabric please.
  22. I have maintained on several forums and sites that I think there are people who threaten other people. As in audits, no fly lists, investigations, etc. Even if the people didn't do anything wrong this all makes their lives miserable and expensive.
  23. My three grands live in a suburb of Tacoma, WA. They have all gotten fast food, coffee barista, pizza joint summer and after school jobs. Their co workers are their school friends or they make friends of the co workers. None of them has ever complained of those things mentioned above. My grands are very special to me (one graduating law school in June, one a junior in college and one a high school junior) but in the world at large they are just someone's kids. What is different where they live? None of us are influential or "know someone".
  24. I don't want to read a ghostwritten book. Now that I am more aware of what that entails. I read The Many Lives of Mama Love and she has ghostwritten several books and explains the process. Maybe not all use that process but I am wary now
