  1. I just finished reading "A well Trained wife". Apparently the author Tia Levings was involved in shiny happy people. I think I have a better understanding of why these women have a hard time breaking free of the domination of their thoughts and behaviors. It is really awful how these things work and we do t even have half a clue I don't think. Many fear for their lives and custody of their children. They have nothing of their own and no knowledge of how to leave even if they could make that thought. And they don't trust anyone.
  2. Some of them look real cute. I see a lot on YouTube, lots of folks waxing poetic. and some who say, eww, didn't like it. Didn't realize how crowded we would be, how much it smells inside, very noisy. Maybe one or two low maintenance folks with a lot of outside space and weather to enjoy it. I would require a real flush toilet so would have to be stationary. Anyway, there's always something for everybody.
  3. Not originally but shows re air https://cnnpressroom.blogs.cnn.com/2024/03/18/cnn-to-air-encore-presentations-of-real-time-with-bill-maher-saturdays-at-8pm-et/
  4. We have discussed this SAVE Act on the Feels thread. Very voter suppression
  5. Our passports expire within a year and we are traveling in August, and even though they will still be in effect for six months, it will be close and we didn't want to take any chances. we did it on line, uploaded pictures, and have had three emails so far along the way, two from the consular office saying they got the applications, then they accepted our payment and then one from the State department saying they are in process and would take 4-6 weeks and let them know if we needed it sooner? I can only think this is a mostly automated process because we have had passports and the only things that change are face wrinkles and white hair which they say doesn't matter because they use different "biometrics". We have global entry too and here in Atlanta we look into a machine and then the fellow says "welcome home". Very easy. Usually no line.
  6. Honestly, I wonder where the resisters are? I did march a week ago. Write to dem. senators and rep. What are they doing? Is there a lawsuit coming forth challenging the immunity? What? What? What? Are people rolling over? Are we doomed?
  7. A consideration for sure. I wonder how JB felt/feels about losing his manly headship power then and how does he reconcile it.
  8. We had a Commodore computer pre www and internet. Then graduated to a brand I can't remember. Then later came a Dell computer and dialup. I still use AOL for email mostly. I have a gmail account too but don't like it. I am old but love all the technology. I am not interested in going off grid. My stuff is out there. Too late for that. But, I am also not "stupid" in that I have different passwords and don't leave myself logged in and don't use computers not in my own house. my iPhone needs a passcode which isn't 1234, haha.
  9. I am totally horrified. I'm half through. I wonder really about the Duggars and Bates. they were sanitized for the TV. And all the other unknown families and how those children of those unions are.
  10. Jinger has spoken about her living in fear of displeasing god. Jill seems paralyzed by normal life. Jessa lives in her bubble. And who knows about Jana - it took her a long time and even though her husband isn't Gothard, hard to know how that goes. I think it is different for the boys being that they will be headships one day.
  11. That we know of. Exactly
  12. Speaking of coffee, I somehow couldn't taste the Kirkland Brand I had been drinking for years. I could taste everything else and coffee elsewhere. So started experimenting with different brands, a Melitta filter, and someone suggested a french press. That really is easy and no filters to buy. I make one 12 ounce in the am into an insulated mug and it lasts as long as I want it to. I have tried maybe 8 different coffees and they are all good enough. I can detect the difference in their tastes. so, it's not just me!!
  13. I listened to all of it and yes, agree. Smart folks. And that is awful about Josh Shapiro and family and the fire. Oy.
  14. Don't exactly know where to put this and can't remember if we have already discussed, but I am halfway through listening to A Well-Trained Wife by Tia Levings. Well, I am horrified and wonder how much of this the Duggars got into and no wonder the kids are way they are.
  15. Yes conscience and I think you said it better than me.
  16. Just a thought about Maher's visit with you know you. I am of the opinion that you know who can be a charming charismatic person which is why people seem to "like" him one on one. This to me is not his true self. It is a persona to be able to achieve his retribution on a larger scale. I think he has had an ax to grind since he was a child. People like Maher will say "but he's a nice guy". Yes, to your face he can put that on. what kind of nice guy creates the carnage he has, without batting an eye. Where is his conscious? I think charismatic leaders can use their skills for good or evil and there are many examples to be found. Anyway, I'm not putting any sources because I am just giving my opinion. I'm 81 and have seen a thing or two.
  17. I would guess more liberal on certain things, but when it comes to his pocketbook then conservative.
  18. Well, Tim "Apple" gave a lot of $$ to the inauguration fund.
  19. I still have a "semi professional" cookbook a late friend wrote back in the mid 70s of microwave recipes from scratch. I never made any recipes from it. I like my microwave but don't cook in it. I do melt the butter, reheat certain leftovers, like soup or soupy type things. Some things are better reheated in the oven or air fryer. We have one of those little hot water heaters at the sink, for instant hot water and I use that a lot.
  20. My brother and I were talking and this is our mother... and father. We are not of same religion, and our issues weren't based on that, but, it is not great being raised in a house where one thing or another meant the difference between peace and war and misery. We had all the material things, like a house, heat, plenty of food, medical care, we went to school, etc. But, still the off kilter of it all was not great.
  21. I think it will be that women don't change any of their "documents" and use their married name only socially. I am renewing my passport and also have an original birth certificate and a copy with a raised seal.
  22. Grandson is graduating law school in June. He has a job with a law firm lined up. I asked him about how going for partner goes. He said nowadays people don't always stay in one place forever. It is a thing to move around. So maybe Derick (who I am not a fan of) got some type of experience and maybe was recruited and can use his accounting background in a law firm. I don't know the circumstances so could be he got fired. But not unheard of to move around.
  23. Funny enough, my son and daughter in law don't care, but the grands are mostly grown and I ask them if the photo is "approved" to post. Sometimes they say yes and sometimes no. I'm fine with it.
  24. Just pitch it. You have said you have limited space anyway and why keep something that takes up room that has issues. What brand do you have that has an exploding lid?
  25. There are plenty of eggs of all kinds in my grocery stores. Prices are still high.
