  1. As always in the Whedonverse, there are definitely some characters that we hate, but every time we let out our scorn in threads, it always starts a huge debate over motives and attitudes, etc, because some of the characters we hate are ones other characters absolutely love. Not that there's anything wrong with that: everyone is welcome to their own opinion. But I thought I'd start a thread that allows us to unleash our utmost scorn for Buffy characters we hate, without judgments or debates. Shall we begin? For a warm-up, I never liked Riley. For the only "nice normal" serious boyfriend Buffy ever had, he came off as insecure and aggressive when it came to the fact that Buffy was stronger than him. And when Buffy didn't lean on him or grieve the way he wanted her to, he goes around and cheats on her with vampires. Then he has the nerve to issue the "we work this out or I'm leaving" ultimatum. Real nice. And then there's Xander. There are a million reasons why I can't stand him. His immaturity. His tendency to put Buffy on a pedestal and then verbally eviscerate her when she makes mistakes. Getting Amy to cast the love spell on Cordelia with the sole purpose of just breaking her heart. Him finally noticing Willow only when she was with Oz and cheating on Cordelia with her. Him being judgmental about Buffy with Angel/Spike while he's free to sleep with Anya -- who massacred just as many people as Angel and Spike, soul or no soul. The constant whining about his terrible taste in women when his two failed relationships with Cordy and Anya were his fault. And the fact that whenever HE screws up, everybody automatically forgives him with little or no judgment -- and yet he never really extends the same courtesy...oh I could go on and on... I hope this is a good idea for a thread. Remember, no character is immune!
  2. My favorite Benderism: "I deserve better. I'm Bender, dammit! I'm Bender!"
  3. Thought I'd start a thread for the best emotional moments of Futurama. My favorites are: * Seymour *sniffle* * Everything in "The Late Philip J. Fry" * The end of "Fun on A Bun" with Fry and Leela vaguely recognizing each other in their respective amnesiac states, culminating in a passionate kiss that triggers both their memories. That has to be one of the most epic kisses in the history of animated television. * The montage of Fry living on the Amish Planet with Ghost Bender. The sad look on Bender's face when he tries to hug Fry always touches me...one of his few geniunely soft moments on the show. And of course, the series finale.
  4. "I DO!!!!" Lol, sorry I couldn't resist. ;) I also liked this one line Whitley had where she confronts a girl whose boyfriend is beating her up, and the abused girlfriend points out that she doesn't understand because she has someone, and Whitley replies, "Yes, I do, and her name is Whitley!" Love her.
  5. While I don't know if it's necessary to do a sequel after all this time...I'd be lying if I said this didn't make me laugh my ass off.
  6. God, I was so sure he was going to die. I'm glad he didn't, but still it was so intense. I LOVED those FBI guys giving the smackdown to stupid Bill for overlooking the solid evidence that connected to Lester to Malvo. I hope his ass gets fired for his incompetency. Jesus H. Tapdancing Christ, I hate Lester so much that I hope he's the one that winds up in the woodchipper for the finale. That poor wife didn't deserve that. The only thing she was guilty of was being dumb enough to love and trust Lester (and cover for him in the interview with Molly). My friend and I kept saying, "That poor girl" over and over again. His comeuppance is long overdue.
  7. When I first saw Back to the Future as was a kid, I seriously wanted to marry Michael J. Fox. Marty McFly was exactly the kind of boyfriend I thought I'd meet in high school. Sadly, I didn't. But I still love Michael J. Fox, Parkinson's be damned.
  8. I would love to see Amy Adams and Bill Murray star in something together, and Joseph Gordon Levitt and Daniel Radcliffe to do a musical...and yes, that is because of their appearances at the Oscars. Heck, I'd love Daniel Radcliffe to do a movie with Ewan McGregor. There's no such thing as having too much British/Scottish hot in a movie ;)
  9. People in horror movies should never own pets.
  10. Yeah, I think it's time we started a thread for the HP books. I love Harry Potter. Always have and always will. JK Rowling is one of my favorite authors, and I really hated how the fans and media completely blew the "Hermione should have ended up with Harry" thing out of proportion. The shipping fans can get really crazy... Anyhoo, while I will always have a special place in my heart for the first book, I think the last book is one of my favorites. Perhaps I'm a little too easy to please, but I was satisfied with how the series ended. Except a lot of my favorite character died of course. *sob* I could almost forgive Fred, but Hedwig?! That was just so sad and pointless.
  11. They never actually show the part where Carrie drinks Natasha's water. Maybe even the networks think that was rude on so many levels: 1) that Carrie had the nerve to even ask Natasha for a sip, 2) that she didn't even wait for her answer before taking it and 3) that instead of a "sip" she took a BIG LONG FUCKING GULP. I give Natasha credit for not throwing the rest of it in Carrie's face! But maybe she didn't want to spoil what was left of her date. And I really hated Carrie's comment of how her actions put Natasha back in the singles market, which made it worse for other single woman. As if she's the one that affects everything for all single women. Shut the fuck up Carrie!
  12. Honestly, I never understood why people hated Skyler so much. She might have been a passive-aggressive nag, but she was nowhere near as despicable as Walt. I never understood why she didn't just turn him in a long time ago -- I get that it's a horrible thing to turn the father of your children over to the cops, but still... I watched the first season of Breaking Bad, and as far as I could tell, Skyler was initially nothing but loving and supportive. The stuff like the veggie bacon and the infamous hj seemed like such little things. And how would any of you feel if your spouse was suddenly disappearing, smoking pot, and keeping his/her terminally illness away from you? Would you guys be upset? Then again, there are some characters I hate that other people absolutely adore (*cough*XanderHarris*cough*), so to each his/her own opinion.
  13. I loved Abbie Carmichael and her "take crap from nobody" attitude. Best example: the episode "Hubris" where the serial killer charmed a dumb desperate jury forewomen into getting a hung jury, and the jurywoman realizes too late that she'd been duped and asks McCoy and the others if he really did it, Abbie replies coldly, "Yeah. He did it." Her tone just oozed disgust for that woman. I LOVED IT. I also remember how cold she was with the parents of the school shooter in "School Daze." Maybe she was too much of a hardass in that episode, but considering the fact that the parents were willing to cover for their son unless he went to a mental institution instead of jail, I don't blame her. Having compassion for criminals isn't in the job description -- too bad Serena didn't feel that way. Seriously, I can't believe Serena would actually feel sympathy for the parents that PIMPED THEIR CHILD OUT TO A PEDOPHILE in "Smoke." I have no words.
  14. I can't get enough of these ones. While most of them are YA novels, there are quite a few good adult fairy tale retellings. Most recently I read While Beauty Slept by Elizabeth Blackwell, a fabulous "historical fiction" version of Sleeping Beauty. I also recommend Mermaid and The Fairest of Them All by Carolyn Turgeon. My favorite YA retellings include the Once Upon A Time series and Beauty and Spindles End by Robin McKinley, Just Ella by Margaret Peterson Haddix, Princess of the Midnight Ball by Jessica Day George, Fairest of All by Serena Valentino.
  15. I saw it last night, and I was shocked that it wasn't as dark as the trailers made it out to be! It was more like a fractured fairy tale than anything. Points for creativity though. Angelina of course nailed Maleficent, and I loved Diaval. Easily the two best characters in the movie. Elle Fanning was fine as Aurora, but I wish they had given the character more substance. The only thing I really didn't like -- other than the fact that Maleficent didn't turn into a dragon because that was the best part about her as a villain -- was how they turned the three fairies into morons. I guess it was all part of making it Maleficent's story, but Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather were way more kick-ass fairies than the Three Pixie Stooges! My favorite part, other than the christening, was Philip's reaction when the pixies were trying to get him to kiss her: "It wouldn't feel right, I've only just met her!" Ha! So true. I did like how they made Aurora and Philip a more realistic pairing -- not true love at first sight, just "Hi, I like you, let's see how this works out." I do not want Disney to make a Cruella De Vil movie, not only because I think Glenn Close was fine, but also because there is NO WAY IN HELL they can make Cruella sympathetic. She wanted to skin PUPPIES, for God's sake!
  16. I read them all the time! I've read most of the big Greek epics, like the Illaid and the Odyssey, but if you want a change in mythology, read The Ramayana. It's a Hindu epic and while the treatment of women still grate on my nerves, I still love it.
  17. I love Jesse. He's one of the characters I managed never to lose sympathy for, even though he did his fair share of terrible things on this show. Him strangling Todd is one of the greatest moments in a series finale ever. I hope he made it to Alaska.
  18. ITA with everyone previously said about Big. He had his faults and he certainly isn't absolved of cheating on Natasha, but when he and Carrie were dating, she was the one who kept pushing for a commitment and making mountains out of molehills. Any man with any common sense would have made it work with Natasha and stayed as far away from Carrie as possible...so I guess in that way, he and Carrie were perfectly matched in being crazy idiots. Seriously!!!!! The fact that Carrie would think, even for a second, that Natasha would have ANYTHING to apologize for showed just how much Carrie thought of herself. And I hated how Samantha enabled her in that episode with her "Who does (Natasha) think she is?!" comment at the restaurant and her convincing Carrie that she did not break up a marriage. Again, Big was just as guilty as she was, but sleeping with a married man IS breaking up a marriage.
  19. Because Lester isn't exactly the criminal mastermind he thinks he is. Even Walter White was more well thought out when it came to his evil plans. The only reason framing his brother worked was because the cops sans Molly were too dumb to double check the brother's alibi or follow up on the evidence that put Malvo and Lester together. Any halfway competent authority figured would have known something was up the night it happened because of the BULLET WOUND ON HIS HAND.
  20. Henry Cavill is definitely a movie crush for me. It's a pity that he can't seem to find himself a good movie -- Man of Steel was okay, but I feel like it's going to be ruined by Batman vs. Superman. This one cannot be said enough: Chris Evans. CHRIS EVANS. Oh my freaking God, he is perfect. Every time was a closeup of his face in Captain America 2, I wanted to reach up through the screen and touch his jawline. And those tight T-shirts almost made up for the fact that we didn't get to see him without a shirt. But he'd better get a topless scene in Captain America 3 or Avengers 2.
  21. Can I add Lester in Fargo? I really hate him. People compare him all the time to Walter White, but I actually PREFER Walter White to him. Walt was just as much as an evil sociopath, but at least he was smart when it came to his plans, while Lester just skates on dumb luck and dumb cops. And the way he pretends to be a nice guy/victim is absolutely sickening.
  22. Yeah, I didn't like Meryl Streep's character either, because I thought it was tremendously unfair of her to want to take custody of Billy after he and his dad had the chance to bond and build a life together. You can't disrupt a child's life whenever you feel like it.
  23. I was so pissed at Bill's blantant close-mindedness and disregard of Molly's intelligence that I almost wanted Malvo to kill him too. But after the stuff with the African boy (which I felt was really out of place with this show, but then again, everything is out of place on this show), I calmed down. I do want him to get fired from being police child since he obviously sucks at it. Not too happy about the year time skip, but at least Molly and Gus are married. That made me happy. And Gus being a mailman is probably for the best. He's a good guy, just not a good cop. I hope to God they stay safe; there's no way this show would kill a pregnant cop...right? Right?! Word. I am so past ready for him to go down.
  24. The "Not Gonna Phone It In Tonight" cold opening is a classic. I remember that one. Jim Carrey blended in so well when he hosted that I can't believe SNL didn't hire him before he got big.
  25. Oops, I'm sorry, I must be mixing up Book Sansa with Show Sansa. No, because that evil look she exchanged with Littlefinger implies that she's apparently plotting with Littlefinger to kill Robin. Or at least that's what it looked like to me. But I guess we won't know for sure until the end of the season.
