Maybe it was supposed to be more of a satire. Anyway, back to Harry Potter, one of the things that really impressed me about the final book was the semi-redemption of Dudley as a result of Harry saving him in OOP. JKR definitely went for the unexpected route there, but it was a good way of showing that it is possible to overcome parental abuse -- because as Dumbledore said in HBP, the Dursleys spoiling Dudley was just as damaging as abusing Harry. And I liked that while he and Harry would never be truly friendly, they at least parted on civil terms. But I'm not gonna lie: I was disappointed that Harry or Mrs. Weasley didn't turn Vernon into a dung beetle. Would have loved that.

I guess I'm in the minority that didn't hate A Casual Vacancy but I totally agree about the unlikable characters. But you got to hand it to JKR for not being too squeamish to kill off characters.

The Forbidden Forest scene in DH 2 always destroys me. I loved the moment when Harry runs to Lily only to have their hands pass through each other was beautiful, not to mention a nice parallel to the Mirror of Erised scene in SS when she touches his shoulder...or does. *sob* I really think Daniel Radcliffe nailed the moment when he pulls out of the Pensieve and absorbs the fact that he is a Horcrux and therefore has to die. The look on his face was a perfect mixture of shock, horror, fear, anger, nausea fading slowly into resignation. And I know that people have criticized the movies making Ginny blander, but Bonnie Wright sold that scream.

But that's my point, Xander DOESN'T keep his mouth shut. He almost always makes his opinion very clear. But when he screws up, Buffy usually feels like it's not her place to judge. The only time she ever really brings up his shortcomings is when he rips into her and she goes on to the defensive. But other than that, she usually tries to be sympathetic.

Loved this: That sums up my entire feelings about that whole mess. But at least Xander finally knew what it felt like to be in that situation in season 7's "Selfless." And yes, SMG sold the end of "Becoming Part II." The way she stared in disbelief, the weight of what she did slowly sinking in, and then broke down into sobs...gah. Girl broke my heart.

Caught the rerun a few days ago. I think this episode pretty much sums up all my reason for my animosity towards Marge. Lisa is EIGHT YEARS OLD. EIGHT. Just because she's seen hanging out with a boy doesn't mean she's going to be married to him. Why Marge uses her resentment about her own marriage to obsess about her daughter's love life is infuriates me. I agree. Remember how upset Marge was in the episode where Lisa said that although she loved her, she didn't want to turn out like her? And now she tells Homer that he's fine, just not good enough for their daughter. What a hypocrite.

S02.E16: Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered
Spartan Girl replied to Mya Stone's topic in Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Well, Cordelia still should have dumped him for good after that. It would have spared her from getting her heart broken in season 3. With all the fallout Xander got from the spell (minimal tho it may be IMHO), it was pretty big of Buffy to be relatively forgiving. For all of the critics on both Xander and Buffy's behavior in future episodes, and the endless debating of who was right and wrong, you have to admit that whenever Xander screwed up (with the love spell, cheating on Cordy with Willow, leaving Anya at the altar, etc) Buffy never came off to me as judgmental towards him. at least as far as I could see. -
Spoilers and Speculation
Spartan Girl replied to Pete Martell's topic in The Walking Dead Franchise Shows
That picture terrifies me. I'm not in the group that's going to riot if (God forbid) Daryl dies, but I'll be very upset. -
I always watch DNR when it's on. That poor judge. Shot, paralyzed, and eventually dies because her husband was pissed off that she was more successful than she was. And yet even with all the evidence staring at her in the face, she loves him too much to believe that he did it. My favorite part of the episode is when Jack finally unleashes his utter contempt for the man: "What goes on in your head when you look at your wife?! Knowing she'd rather die than send you to jail? Why the hell didn't you just divorce her?! Was the wound to your ego that great?!" I love it when Jack voices the disgust that the viewers feel for the perps.

S02.E16: Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered

I still say it was pretty messed up that Xander cast the love spell just so that he could dump Cordy...and yet when everything blows up in his face and he comes clean to Cordy, instead of being pissed off she thinks it's sweet? -
This episode showed just how creepy Angelus could be. He was never this creepy in the Angelus arc on Angel, IMO. Sure he was evil and manipulative, but it was kind of written as a sort of comic relief at times. But THIS Angelus was creepy. Poor Giles.

Recurring Judges: Choose Your Justice!
Spartan Girl replied to GHScorpiosRule's topic in Law & Order
The obviously biased judge in the episode where the mentally disabled girl was raped is definitely one I loathed. How the hell did he not get recused from the case when he so obviously made up his mind long before the trial even started never fails to piss me off. -
Season 7: Jamie Ross, Former Bond Girl
Spartan Girl replied to GHScorpiosRule's topic in Law & Order
Is it wrong that I wish the federal charges had been genuine just so that asshole could get the death penalty? Because he totally deserved it. Also wish the bitch girlfriend had gotten jailtime too. -
Tom Hanks playing himself on Celebrity Jeopardy was hands down the best Celebrity Jeopardy. And a surprise cameo by Norm's Burt Reynolds! It's a damn shame Norm was fired because the real Reynolds had been talking about coming on a Celebrity Jeopardy sketch to play himself. That would have been gold.
-
Beautiful line. But the one that broke me was in book 7 when Harry uses the resurrection stone to see his parents and Sirius and Remus: "His eyes feasted on (his mother) and he thought if he could just stand there and look at her forever, it would be enough."

"YOU'RE DISGUSTING! YOU ARE!" The Worst Parents on SVU
Spartan Girl replied to Spartan Girl's topic in Law & Order: SVU
I actually do think sleeping with your child's spouse DOES make you a shitty parent. Case in point: the mother in the teen drunk driving/partying episode that enabled her daughter into being an alcoholic, gave out booze to her classmates, and slept with the boy her daughter had a crush on. Not to mention getting her lawyer to blame everything on her daughter during trial. How about the mother in "Charisma" who took her children to live in a cult and let the leader impregnate/kill them. People always talk about how unnecessarily harsh Liv was while interrogating her, but I don't blame her for being disgusted. And to top it all off, it turns out the cult leader had murdered her husband. So she unwittingly slept with her husband's murderer because she was dumb enough to believe his story that he had abandoned her. -
Cordelia's rant where she rediscovers her innerbitch and stops being a "sniveling little cryBuffy" is hands down the best part of that episode.
-
I loved that too. Too bad a certain other character didn't follow that example -- especially in season 6.

There was this little scene in Continental Divide when John Belushi's character makes this goulash for Blair Brown, and he looks at her real anxiously when she tries it. Then, when she says she likes it, he just has the sweetest looking smile on his face. Another good one from The Princess and Frog was when Charlotte sees that Tiana is in love with Naveen and she is so happy that her friend found love that she happily lets Naveen out of their deal to marry her after he kisses her. The fact that the writers didn't take the cop-out of making Charlotte evil made the whole movie for me.

Those two should have gotten their own spin-off. Their relationship was the best thing about this show.

I thought I'd start a thread for all the guys in Betty's life. And with the exception of Henry, I could not stand any one of them; Walter: Oh dear. Where to begin with this douchebag? Being a sad-sack loser was his only good quality. He is the prime example of how it is possible to be emotionally abusive in a relationship. He cheats on Betty, and makes it sound like it was her fault for not being forgive and forget. And when they do get back together (which I felt was a huge mistake on Betty's part), he goes out of his way to make her feel like crap for her success and judge her for her "new lifestyle." The way he whined when their weekend plans fell through when Betty had to review that 4-star hotel/restaurant then made an ass out of himself over dinner was disgusting. Even more disgusting was how Hilda and Ignacio kept defending him. Seriously, Betty went out of her way get take care of Ignacio's HMO, and yet he was still friendly with the guy who cheated on her?! Betty should have packed her bags and gotten her own place back in season one. Henry: I blame the writers for turning a likable love interest into a baby mama drama soap opera. But that aside, I thought he was way more supportive than Walter (not a high bar, but still). Gio: Didn't like him. I especially didn't like him when he came back and lashed out at Betty for "breaking up" with him. It wasn't her fault his damn cheese got confiscated. Matt: Now this guy, I actually managed to hate more than Walter. He was decent I guess pre-breakup, but getting the job at MODE just to use his power and spite Betty at every chance he got? That's sexual embarrassment. And I did not buy his half-assed apology for it. Any other girl in Betty's position would never have even considered giving their relationship another try after that stunt. Anyone else care to share their thoughts?
