  1. I'm seriously starting to ship May and Coulson. There is something more than platonic going on there... To be fair, I was thinking the same thing. Let's not forget that this lady was the voice of Mulan too. She is ten thousand kinds of badass. Once again, poor poor Fitz.
  2. I really hope Michonne and Rick become more than just friends. Not only is she more of a mother to Carl than Lori ever was, she's a way better "wife" to Rick -- and they haven't even hooked up yet!
  3. I watched The Descendants recently, and sooooo many things piss me off. First and foremost was that George Clooney's comatose wife was a selfish spoiled bitch who was ready and willing to throw her family away for a married man with two kids. Obviously she didn't care enough about her own family -- she clearly didn't pay attention enough to her youngest daughter to teach her not to talk and act so inappropriately -- and she didn't care about breaking up someone else's family just so that she could have watch she wanted. Then there was her bitch friend, who gave the whole "you weren't around and she has needs" excuse to George. You know what? EVERYONE has needs, but that doesn't give you an excuse to hurt other people for it. And the father-in-law was a real piece of work. I know that it's terrible to lose your daughter while your wife already has dementia, but again, that's no excuse. Instead of offering comfort or support to the family, he acts like a complete jerk, blaming George for the accident because he wouldn't let his wife buy her own boat, and then going on about how perfect his daughter was. Even though it was better for George to stay quiet instead of telling him the truth, I wouldn't have blamed him if he did. So by the time we get to the whole maudlin "Goodbye my love, my pain, my joy" speech, I was ready to throw something at my screen. I know it was important for him to forgive so that he could move on. Still, a simple goodbye would have been sufficient.
  4. Oh God, I KNEW they were going to play "Love Is A Dream" for the tribute. I was crying into my blanket even more than the first time I ever saw it. RIP Jan and Phil. Bill was good. Loved seeing Stefon again, even when he couldn't stop cracking up.
  5. I think after last night, Carol definitely earned the title for this thread. She was awesome.
  6. Yeah, I hated how SJP's sister had no qualms about hooking up with the boyfriend not two seconds after they broke up. If it was my sister, I would called Everett a douche and told the whole family to go fuck themselves.
  7. Saw "School Daze" last night, and can I just saw how much I loved Abby's TWOP attitude towards the parents of the school shooter? I didn't really feel sorry for them at all. They covered for their son when they knew he did it. This wasn't just a case of someone that snapped after getting picked on too many times; remember the father revealed that he broke his sister's arm once. So all that talk about how he needed help made me mad: if they had gotten him help sooner, the school shooting could have been prevented. I know there's only so much parents can do, but come on...
  8. Maybe if she ever leaves Fitz for good, she start her own Pope Agency.
  9. I'm so sad about Jan Hooks. She was one of the funniest ladies on SNL. God, I wept buckets when I first saw that. I really hope she met up with Phil Hartman in the afterlife and they're doing funny stuff with John, Chris, and Gilda.
  10. I agree that Nick might have stayed with Amy for reasons other than the baby, but the fact remains that the baby was a pretty big reason. Would you leave a child in the hands of a woman like that?! Staying was the only way he could keep her from damaging that baby physically and emotionally...and sadly that still might not be enough in the long run. Damn, I already feel terrible for that poor child. And the cat (although Nick did a pretty good job taking care of it). Speaking of which, didn't everyone appreciate how the previews made Nick sitting in the dark holding the cat look sinister only to see in the actual film that he was actually hiding in terror from Amy. That big smile she gave him at the police station scared me as much as it made me laugh.
  11. I almost thought Cartman was going to pull a gun out at the beginning. And then it turned out to be a bow. Hee. Looks like they've taken a page from Craig's book. Stan's reaction to Randy being Lorde was great. And I did love Sharon's Spider-man 2-esque speech to Randy at the end. I'm just glad Butters is back in school, though I'm sure his parents are going to torture him for some reason this season. So I wonder if and how they are going to link this to next week's episode.
  12. Finally saw it last night and WOW. Holy freaking God. Even though I read the book, I still was not prepared for how twisted it was going to get. Perhaps because the additional details of Amy hitting herself in the face with a hammer and showing exactly the lengths she would go to (violating herself with a wine bottle) to be convincing. Ben Affleck did not disappoint. He was definitely the right choice for this role: everything about Nick screamed "Douche" and despite his flaws I couldn't help pitying the poor bastard. His relationship with Margo was the only functional one in the film. Rosamund Pike was perfect as Amy. You could tell that something was off about her even in the flashback scene when she met Nick at the party. She pulls off "evil ice bitch" quite nicely without going too over the top. Am I the only one that thinks she bears a resemblance to Emily Van Camp? That scene where she kills Desi was the one I couldn't watch. Yeesh. Ironic how that sort of thing was Barney Stinson's worst nightmare. My favorite part had to be the scene when Amy is milking the fame for all it was worth and Nick glares at her parents and spits, "You must be so proud." I hated how Amy's parents used her disappearance to promote their Amazing Amy books. Clear indication how Amy became who she was. And Tyler Perry can act! And all he had to do was be in a movie that he didn't direct or write! Finally, I like everyone else loved the cat.
  13. Perhaps but that still doesn't make it right. And all it did was lead to yet ANOTHER death.
  14. This, this, this, this, a thousand times THIS.
  15. West Side Story: the Jets almost raping Anita and Anita retaliating by spreading the lie about China killing Maria. I don't know which of them I hated more in that moment. Yes Anita had every right to hate the Jets and Tony, but that's no excuse for doing such a terrible thing to Maria. As for the Jets, Doc summed it up perfectly: they make the world lousy.
  16. Thank you! I was beginning to think I was the only one that was moved by the movie. I get why critics accused them of trying to make a comedy out of the Holocaust, but there was nothing about that movie that was even remotely funny in the Holocaust part.
  17. I always love the sequence after the end of every Superman film with Superman flying around the planet, looking at the audience, and giving them a big smile. No matter how bad the sequels got, I looked forward to that moment. It makes me miss Christopher Reeve terribly whenever I see it now, but I try to think of it as a sign that he's in a better place.
  18. Mellie chowing down the fried chicken while laughing at Fitz for pretending that her behavior wasn't really about a reflection on him was nothing short of amazing. But my heart broke for her when she broke down after the speech. Fitz continuing to call Abby "Gabby" is a healthy reminder that he's still an asshole.
  19. So I thought I'd start a thread for all the film adaptations of Shakespeare plays (and yes, the modern ones like 10 Things I Hate About You can count). I recently rewatched the 1968 version of Romeo and Juliet and I think that's probably the best version. No offense to the Baz Luhrman/Leo one, but I think the 60s movie did a better job of portraying Romeo and Juliet for what they were: a couple of giddy, impulsive teenagers.
  20. The continuity from last week was a pleasant surprise, and I think that's what made this episode. Had to laugh at Wendy recounting how Stan said he'd be "dripping in bitches" and Butters burning down the school -- did he really? That's the sort of thing I'd expect from Cartman, although it's understandable that even Butters would have a breaking point because of how much crap he takes. Hate to think what his parents are doing to him. Cartman freaking out to Kyle over the phone was gold So I take it Trey and Matt had a bad experience at Papa Johns as well as PF Changs?
  21. Yeah, they had some real potential with Lois and Marge. Marge could have chewed out Lois for being a shitty mother, and Lois could call out Marge on being a passive-aggressive ninny. Had to laugh with Marge pointing out that next time Lois should wear a bra. Ha!
  22. The 1968 version of Romeo and Juliet makes me tear up, even though I'm not a huge fan of the play. While I do like the Leonardo DiCaprio one and the 2013 one, I think this film is definitely the most emotional version. Even if you find the whole romance rushed and unrealistic, Olivia Hussey and Leonardo Whiting just really captured the emotions of young love: the giddiness and passion of first finding it and the heartbreak when it all falls apart.
  23. The 1968 version of Romeo and Juliet with Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey had a few unintentionally funny moments. The first has to be when Juliet meets Romeo at the church to get secretly married and they immediately run to each other and start making out so passionately that the friar has to practically pull them apart to start the ceremony. He's like "Save you're legal, you too." Hee. Also what I found funny was how the morning after when Romeo has to leave Verona and Juliet gives the whole "it's not yet day" speech and right when they're about to get hot and heavy again, she suddenly pushes him off and tells him it really is day. The whole startled look at Romeo's face just made me giggle.
  24. I just read Juliet's Nurse by Lois Leveen! By far one of the best Romeo and Juliet retellings I've read yet!
