Obviously Oliver is the lead,” Mericle says, “but fans really love Diggle and they obviously love Felicity, and the Black Canary has a huge following.

Oliver, Diggle, Felicity, and BC.  Not Laurel, but BC.  Maybe there is something in the theory that the show is treating Laurel and Black Canary as two separate characters.  How bizarre.

Arrow S04E02: What worked, what didn't, and what needs to happen next

http://www.examiner.com/article/arrow-s04e02-what-worked-what-didn-t-and-what-needs-to-happen-next

"Frankly, Laurel digging up Sara is the most selfish thing that any character on Arrow has ever done, and redeeming her for this awful act will take some mighty act of heroism the likes of which this reviewer cannot concoct as well as a heaping helping of humble pie for Laurel."

Kill her off...then maybe I'll forgive her selfishness

"The episode tried to frame Laurel’s act in the same terms as Oliver’s when he decided to dunk Thea in the Lazarus Pit, but there is a huge difference between what Oliver did for Thea and what Laurel has done to Sara. Oliver was saving his still-living sister; Laurel is planning on resurrecting the sister who has been dead and buried for a year. Laurel is not saving Sara; Laurel is disrupting Sara’s rest for reasons that really don’t make sense"

Yep

Arrow has mishandled the character of Laurel Lance from the very beginning, but never has she been nearly so unrecoverable as she is now that she physically dug up the corpse of her dead sister.

uh huh, uh huh.

Felicity made the Hollywood Reporter's badass women on tv list:

'Supergirl' and 10 Other Badass Women on TV

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/gallery/supergirl-10-badass-women-tv-832225/1-kara-zorel-supergirl

Their inclusion of Daisy is interesting to me because even with superpowers I think she's the least badass woman on Agents of Shield. Nice for Felicity even though she wouldn't be my choice from Arrow, but since Moira's dead I can accept it.

Daisy would not be my choice form AOS either, she does get the most focus and has had the biggest journey as a character, but she is not my fave.

Otherwise a pretty good list, say what you like about CW, they do tend to have a lot of female characters that I love.

Lol at not mentioning Laurel by name. Everyone else is Oliver is loved, Diggle is loved and so is Felicity. Then bam BC has a "huge" following.

You really have to give it to Caity Lotz. She really did make that character and Laurel KC only inherited it because of the name. That's all it is. They had s kick ass actress in the role and they killed her. Now they use a stunt woman most if not all of the time. Badly at that to because we can tell when it's the stunt person. They don't even have the same body type.

I think the majority of the reason LL crossed over to FLASH in Fs1 to get her collar was to clarify to that segment of the audience who the Black Canary really was. That really was the only point of Cisco's fanboy scene. They really didn't even talk about the tech, which was the most important part. It provided a Flarrowverse canon clarity as to who was the Black Canary as opposed to the Canary.

It worked I have a friend who has just started s1 of ARROW, but came to it via watching the FLASH over the summer. And we were talking about the show. I asked her what she thought of LL, and she didn't have much to say beyond, oh yeah she becomes the BC.

What’s really exciting about that is we’ve just barely scratched the surface with both of them [Diggle and Felicity], and that’s been one of the fun things with breaking and writing season four is we have so much story to tell and when you start to dig beneath and go past Oliver, there’s so much more to still explore.”

I find it very reassuring to hear Wendy Mericle say this.  They've just begun to explore them.

I lol it because it only proves what a terrible and forgettable character she is. i'm looking forward to hear what your friend will have to say when she reaches s2 and watch Sara in action.

Me too... I didn't tell her that part of the fun :) Her parting words were actually about how things are starting to heat up with FS's plot & shes just talking about her working with WS (she's on 107 or 108). I simply smiled a smug smile and said to myself you have no idea.

Yeah, i don't get that.  I can see an argument that the LP could become a get out of Death card (problem).  I don't get the comment that it's already become a problem since it's only been used once and Thea wasn't even dead at the time.

Personally my problem with the LP is that it's ridiculous instead of deep and serious.  Every time we saw RAG in the beginning he was just lounging in it with his greasy hair and too much jewelry.  NOT impressive.  Treat it like a 70s Jacuzzi and I'll look at it like a 70s Jacuzzi.

I feel like the producers have made some comment about

something happening with the LP after Sara is brought back that will mean they can't use it as their get out of death free card.

Edited because, whoops, spoiler tags.

Just on case spoiler tagged

Usually with lazurus pits, at least in comics, after its first use for actual resurrection the pit will dry up and is unusable. Nyssa eventually find a way around this. So I imagine in show RAG only used it for longevity and after they actually bring Sara back it will dry up.

Interesting perspective coming from someone who doesn't hate Laurel (Canaries is the best episode ever of Arrow for him) but isn't happy with what The Candidate did to her character:

http://www.buddytv.com/articles/arrow/arrow-is-bringing-sara-lance-b-57771.aspx

He seems to have been very happy with Laurel's development into the Black Canary and is upset that this episode seems to have knocked her down from her high position.

I guess it's a case of you can't please everyone.  I don't like it when my fave character is less than perfect either.

This GB quote is from a NY Times article about Supergirl, but it's just as applicable to Arrow and his other superhero shows...

Mr. Berlanti, who also produces the comic-book adaptations “Arrow,” “The Flash” and “Legends of Tomorrow” for CW, said that the “scope and epicness” inherent in the Supergirl character “seemed like a real chance to do something even bigger” — one that would play to the larger audience that a CBS series requires.

While “Supergirl” offers a mix of action set pieces, thought to be the domain of male viewers, and workplace and relationship drama — usually regarded as a beacon for female audiences — Mr. Berlanti said that early testing of the series had shown that these presumed boundaries were not so rigid.

“Women are just as excited by the action, and men are just as excited by the emotional stories,” he said. “They all have the capacity to cross the gender borderlines.”

Halloween Costumes For Couples 2015: Dress Up As Favorite TV Characters From 'Empire,' 'Arrow,' 'Doctor Who' And More
By Nicole Massabrook  October 19 2015 2:07 PM EDT

5. “Arrow” -- The Green Arrow and Felicity

This couples’ Halloween costume will make you ready to save Star City. Oliver (Stephen Amell) wears a lot of green leather. If you’re not in the mood to rock the leather outfit, a green hoodie can work as a throwback to his early days as the Hood. Be sure to grab a mask along with a bow and arrow. For Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards), a blonde wig with the hair pulled into a pony tail is important. Pair it with a stylish, bright dress and a pair of glasses.

‘Arrow': The Definitive Ranking of Every Character We Want Brought Back Via Lazarus Pit

by kayti burt 7h ago

http://www.mtv.com/news/2351840/arrow-lazarus-pit-resurrections/?xrs=_s.tw_news

Yea the list is just about right. I would have put Deadshot higher than Yao Fei, but then again I still don't think Deadshot is dead. Honestly, if SL wasn't already coming back, I would have had her #3 after MQ & TM. But still excited we are getting her back. So its all good for her - just bummed we don't get the other two.

John Campea said he would watch the show again if they fixed their mess and killed Laurel.

I don't care if he starts watching again - I don't want Laurel killed. I do admire the sticktuitiveness though, that he said he'd quit and he actually did. I simply don't care about Laurel that much, haha.

After reading your comments I went and checked out the after show (I had dropped it at some point last season because I couldn't stand Campea's wife and her friend's flip-flopping anymore). I looked for the streamtv.com one, and was glad to see they weren't on it, and that finally someone got rid of them. But then I look at the suggested videos and here they are for the Collider recap. :/ So bummed.

Anyway, I watched the recap for the premiere, and while I like the new guy, I don't know if I could go back to watch the show regularly. I'm fine with people criticizing things I like, as long  as those critiques are objective and not born out of prejudice, but I don't think that's the case for this people. Like, Medina saying he didn't like how Felicity went from being a pain in Oliver's ass last season, begging him to leave the vigilante life, to being the one who wanted to come back. Huh, have you watched the same show I have? When did that happen? If you are doing a show about something, shouldn't you at least pay attention and get characters motivations?

Besides, I'm not over my dislike of Kaori, so that may factor in my reaction to everything she says:

200.gif200.gif

Have you guys watched it? What did you think about it?

P.S. I think Campea is just not doing the aftershow, but he is still watching Arrow. At some point one of them said that a scene had John Campea, who was watching with them, giggling.

Yeah they don't even know what they are watching or even if they have watched it. I finally gave up after seeing a clip of them without John and they were completely just agreeing with whatever the new guy said. It was stupid and I was out!

Get to know ‘Arrow’s new superhero actor Echo Kellum
Colleen Bement October 19, 2015 10:51 PM MST
http://www.examiner.com/article/get-to-know-arrow-s-new-superhero-actor-echo-kellum

Q. Welcome to the Arrow fandom. No DOUBT you’re going to find instant fame. Being new to the cast, how were you welcomed to the set?

A. “Well, um, they were really mean. They said get out of here. Just kidding. Emily was the person I worked with and meeting her was like meeting a friend I hadn't seen in a couple of years. It was just so easy to come in and work with her. It was like I was always a part of the cast. Everyone was extremely nice and down to earth and funny. They were so freaking nice. And ya know, they don't have to be. They’re on a hit show, yet they were professional and nice.”
*  *  *
Q. @noreligravines would just love to know your opinion on who is smarter? Felicity or Curtis?

A. “That's a trick question. They both are intellectual people; really smart. I think they're on par with each other. According to DC he's (Curtis Holt) the third smartest person in the world, but I don't think they really calculated Felicity's smartness. They need to update their list. I think Felicity's right up there. She is definitely one of the smartest people in the world.”

Q. @Lostritaurie wants to know if there are a lot of shinanigans on the set.

A. “There are times that Emily and I are always creating shenanigans. We'll talk in accents or gibberish in scenes. We'll have weird rap battles, or we'll change the lyrics to different songs. We try to get the crew to get a song stuck in their head. We have a lot of fun.”
