Making It, Amy Poehler's competition show with Nick Offerman, started back on NBC this week. I think it's airing nightly instead of weekly this season.

In other news:

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/lorne-michaels-quibi-murder-mystery-lines-up-all-star-cast-1259091

The cast of Quibi's murder-mystery comedy The Mapleworth Murders could double as a Saturday Night Live reunion.

A host of former castmembers from the NBC late-night institution — including Maya Rudolph, Tina Fey, Fred Armisen and Tim Meadows — have signed onto the project, created by and starring SNL veterans Paula Pell and John Lutz. The show also counts Lorne Michaels and Seth Meyers among its executive producers.

Regulars from 30 Rock, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Good Place are also on board.

The Mapleworth Murders is a sendup of small-town crime shows (think Murder, She Wrote) that stars Pell (Wine Country) as Abigail Mapleworth, a mystery writer who solves crimes in her quaint hometown of New Woodstream. Each episode will feature guest victims and suspects, and also get at the question of just why so many homicides are happening in one small town.

Joining Pell and Lutz (30 Rock) as regulars are J.B. Smoove (Curb Your Enthusiasm) and Hayley Magnus (The Dressmaker). Rudolph, Armisen, Meadows, D'Arcy Carden (The Good Place), Patton Oswalt (AP Bio), Jack McBrayer (30 Rock), Pam Murphy (Adam Ruins Everything), Ben Warheit (Late Night With Seth Meyers), Annie Mumolo (Bridesmaids), Ike Barinholtz (The Mindy Project), Mary Holland (Veep), James Anderson (SNL) and Drew Tarver (The Other Two) will all have recurring roles.

Fey, Wanda Sykes, Chris Parnell, Andy Samberg, Terry Crews, Nicole Byer and Jimmy Carlson will all make guest appearances on the show.

She was on Seth Meyers a few days ago to promote her Christmas album.

Kate McKinnon is in Bombshell, now out in theaters.

Last month, Vanessa Bayer was honored by Gilda's Club.

MacGruber is back on NBC's new Peacock streaming service.

Quote

MacGruber: MacGruber is back, baby! After sitting in prison for more than 10 years, MacGruber is out and ready to take down a mysterious villain from his past: Brigadier Commander Enos Queeth. MacGruber, Vicki, and Piper (all characters from the original film) have to race against the clock to save the world from utter devastation.

Yawn.  Wait, wut-- there's a BSG reboot?  Why???

MacGruber, MacGuyver spoof: Great as a minutes-long skit.

MacGruber, MacGuyver spoof: Likely tedious at full length.

It was a movie a few years ago that was kind of a bomb but turned into a cult classic that I know there was some demand for a sequel.   I guess this is the spiritual sequel.

It could be tedious or it could be Angie Tribeca (so dumb yet so funny).

Most of the sketches were very funny but the movie-- not so much.

If anyone can pull off a comedic "upset," it's Will Forte.

Off-topic re the Battlestar Galactica reboot reboot reboot:  The late 70's show had early promise but quickly turned into, well, a late 70's TV show (cheesy suckathon).  The aughts reboot was one of the best sci-fi TV shows ever.  It had a compete story arc with an ending.  They tried to breathe further life into it with Caprica (the reboot's reboot), but alas, it didn't work.  More power to 'em if this new one works, but WTF? [/end rant]

Only disappointment was Joe Piscopo not being on, that would have been epic.

Piscopo will be at University of West Georgia (yes, it's small) on January 24! Tix seem a bit high for him - $33 - $55.

I'm really looking forward to The King of Staten Island. I hope making it helps Pete heal from his fathers death.

I never thought much of Pete Davidson initially, to be honest.  His early appearances on SNL didn't impress me at all, and his celebrity dating only confused me.  But I saw his stand up special "Pete Davidson SMD" the other night and I thought it was pretty good, there really does seem to be something to him as far as generating his own material.  And King of Staten Island looks pretty good from the trailers, so I'm looking forward to watching it.

I'm not sure how fictionalized it went. Does it have 9/11 imagery? Feel free to spoiler or PM me if needed. I was thinking about watching it on an upcoming flight but that's not something I want to see while on a plane.

I haven't seen it, but from the non-spoilery info I've read, the movie father was a firefighter but his death was in the line of duty but not 9/11-related.

I didn't really know which spot to put this, as it actually technically wasn't an outside SNL project as it was actually two years before his tenure on SNL that this apparently occurred, but I was recommended some video on YouTube asking what happened to the model/actress that played the teacher in the 1984 Van Halen video, "Hot For Teacher".

Well, in that video, I found out a little factoid I never knew! The stuff with Waldo and his mother, before she sends him off on the bus for his first day of school as Waldo complains about his problems, Waldo's voice was apparently supplied by none other than...Phil Hartman!

Here is that video if you want to watch it:
