Stalker in The Media: Are People Following It?

Is the show really that bad? Granted Williamson acted on the immature side but that writers seemed to be taking all that he said at the panel out of context.

Following of a summer with one of the most talked-about celebrity privacy violations in recent history, CBS' Stalker has enlisted a 90210 alum for a story that will highlight the dark side of fame.

AnnaLynne McCord will guest star in an episode of the upcoming drama, Mashable has learned exclusively, playing a famous TV star named Nina Preston who recruits the help of LAPD's Threat Assessment Unit to help her deal an obsessed fan who has tormented her and threatened her life.

AVClub gives the pilot an F.

Cliffnotes version: It's a show about stalkers that transparently gets off on portraying pretty girls being psychologically and physically tortured, victim blames, and the male lead (I don't think Dylan McDermott played anything other than a huge douchebag in the past few years) is a huge asshole that we're supposed to care about for some reason.

After watching the pilot, honestly I'm not sure why the critics hated it so much. SVU and Criminal Minds are worse when it comes to torture porn. And if the critics are going to complain about violence and in particular violence against women, then don't go praising shows like Game of Thrones, mkay? I'd bet good money that the AV Club loves Game of Thrones.

Me neither. I was expecting much worse from the reviews and have seen much worse so I am sort of mystified. Not that it was fantastic or anything, but I love Maggie and I think it has potential, just depends on how it's handled.

Reading about the twitter stuff, I wonder how much of this is people who got pissed off at Williamson or other behind the scenes stuff.

CBS gave them a full season pickup yesterday!  I wasn't sure if I wanted to end that sentence with an exclamation point or not, but I think I finally have to own that I kind of like this terrible show LOL.  It's all Maggie Q's fault.  If there was any other female lead, I know I couldn't put up with Dylan McDermott for them.

So, yay Stalker.

This show isn't bad. CBS isn't really my network. I remember wanting to watch Stalker mainly because it got such bad reviews. I was hoping for a train wreck. Instead I got a mix between Criminal Minds and SVU. It got me to wondering if either were made today would they have gotten similar compaints? Both have uneven violence towards women but both have survived critics. Is it timing or is it writing? Because it isn't topic...stalking isn't much different then rape or murder at least genre wise.

So figured episode 18, when Beth is abducted was the last episode of the season.  However on Twitter, Maggie Q posted "That's a wrap on Stalker Season 1! We are back on the air at the end of the month!"  So I"m assuming there are more episodes to come....

Oh, goody.  I just watched an old one that I'd missed.  As others have noted:  it's not that bad!

I didn't like Cyber, either, and took it off the DVR.

Both Cyber and Stalker strain credulity, but when Stalker does it, I shake my head and kind of chuckle with exasperation.  With Cyber, I hit "delete."

Either the characters/actors are more relatable in Stalker, or the subject matter is.

I could very happily go another season.  And I just saw a commercial for the return of Under The Dome, so really, how high can the bar be?

I was fully expecting the cancellation. You can't tell us stalkers are bad and stalking is bad and have the lead male character stalk his ex-wife. All credibility was gone when they had Jack do that and then tried to treat him like a hero.

I still think if they had gone down the "Jack goes bad because of stalking" route and killed him off at the end of the season, opening up for a new partner, it would have worked a lot better.

I really like Maggie Q and I loved her in this role, I just wish the supporting characters were better written. Now if only CSI: Cyber would get the axe.

Bummer!   Under The Dome and The Following both crossed the line from ridiculous to unwatchable, for me.

I thought Stalker did a good job avoiding the damsel in peril rinse and repeat, if that's why people didn't want to give it a watch.  There were business partners, ex-husbands, best friends, college roommates, biological parents, authors and ghostwriters. . .

Ah, well.

Bye Stalker, we hardly knew ya.

I was so excited for this show based on the extended trailer that was shown before the season.  When I saw that every. single. thing. that I found scary, fascinating, interesting from the trailer happened in the first two episodes, I was was kind of 'meh', but continued watching.  Had potential, didn't live up to it.
