Premiers on HBO at 10:30 PM, right after Camping.

Star and creator of Sally4ever is Julia Davis, who also created the original UK version of Camping.

They made it rather easy for Sally to dump David.

His argument for why she should marry him was that she’s getting up in years and is unlikely to meet anyone else.

This was right after ambushing her and staging a rape to spice up their sex life.

So her reply to his suggestion that they have sex is “no thank you.”

And then she goes out later that night to meet someone.

Looks like they’re going to keep David in the picture for awhile so will they give this schlub even a shred of dignity?

Or just keep making it too easy for her to leave him behind?

“I haven’t been attracted to you ... really for the last 7 years.”

This is just too weird. Worse than the American Camping, which I bagged halfway into the first episode.  Have not seen UK version of Camping.

I found it relatively funny.  Given the David was packing at the end of the episode it is possible that his character is gone.  I like the 2 women.  Let’s see where this goes.

I can deal with silly as long as it doesn’t get stupid.

That was supposed to be funny? This was the least funny, most depressing show I've seen, and I've seen Camping which is worse than a trip to the proctologist. I wanted to like it, but I guess awkward humor isn't my thing.

Well it’s a joint production with Sky so it airs in the U.K. and probably Europe too.

so they’re more likely to feature nudity.

It was two older women though so kind of unusual.

jesus, i almost puked at the one scene where the blonde pull out the tampon. is this a thing? because it is beyond disgusting. and not sexy. wtf! the worst depiction of something that should not be shown on television, or anywhere, sex/personal hygiene wise, that i have seen. sticking with the show despite the graphic gross out scenes  but it all depends if they stick to this shock value format .

The first scene alone was tired and irritating. Her loyal boyfriend is just sooo lame, poor protagonist. Just dump the guy if you have so much contempt for him! The comedy was so lazy and just devoid of wit - it’s easy to make fun of nerds, but not clever and certainly not funny. And then the trope with her mother’s carrying on about her increasing undesirability as she gets older- good grief.  I just wanted them all to shut up and go away.

Sally had had to get out of a rut and dump David but she may have gotten involved with a cruel person.

Sally really does have the worst taste in men...and women. David is such a nebbish oddball, I can't believe Sally spent 10 years with him. I can see why she would gravitate towards someone who offered her a way out of that relationship, unfortunately for her Emma seems to be a bit sociopathic.

I understand why people would be put off by this show, but I tend to like dark comedies. I wish they would pull back on the gross-out humor though.

I like "Extras"-level uncomfortable humor, but this show might be a bit much for me. Though I thought the second episode was a lot closer to what I find funny than the first episode was.

After the first episode I decided not to waste my time...but then decided to give Episode 2 a try.  It was better and I'm willing to carry on.  The unnecessary (actually silly) sex scenes seem like fillers--as if they couldn't think of any good dialogue.   No one EVER needs to see a used tampon.

So the sex scenes are suppose to show that she's got a completely different outlook now?

The scene in episode 2 was played to set up the comedy of the old lady being unable to speak but do the scissoring gesture with her hands.

Maybe unnecessary but the following scene was gold.

I'm kind of wishing this show was more a workplace comedy.  I'd be happier with a lot more Eleanor and much less Emma.  I think it would be funnier.

Based on other shows I've seen it seems like Julia Davis often plays and/or writes herself as a similarly repugnant character, but not one that I love to hate.  I think she relies too much on gross-out humor.

Catherine Shepherd looked like she was laughing during several scenes in the third episode.  I couldn't tell if it was intentional or if she was just losing it during filming.

I gave it three episodes. I think I'm out. Nothing in particular tipped it this week, but the balance of what I find funny vs. what I'm just tolerating isn't worth it.

Well when she was talking about being Stanley Kubrick’s daughter or having been to all these places, Emma is like a ruder version of David Brent, though barely concealing some nasty traits.

Yeah I’m not sure what’s going on at the office.  While Emma is causing trouble for Sally at work, they have some odd characters at the office.

Looks like Emma gets into the Marion Cotillard movie as an extra and is going to cause problems.

Not sure why her victims put up with her so long.

Last night was the first episode I sort of enjoyed, maybe because there was no David, whom I found to be a ridiculously over the top character. The whole episode seemed a bit toned down and more subtle, and seemed more in the vein of The Office tyoe of humor.

i thought the dialogue at the office was good, as well as the scene at the funeral with her parents.

All the characters were hostile with each other.  Maybe not the most pleasant th8ng but humorous.

Eleanor telling Sally to back off. That can’t be a typical office exchange in the U.K., could it?

There were verbal hostilities on the set as well, though Dan wanted to act it out.

My god, there is nothing to like anywhere in this show.  Not a single pleasant moment to be found anywhere.  

Why was this show made? Who was it made for? I like weird, quirky, dark, twisted things but this one just seems to be going for shock value with nothing of substance behind it. I can’t even root for Sally ... am I supposed to be rooting for Sally? Am I supposed to want her to dump toxic narcissist Emma for Nigel? Because I don’t think Sally is good enough for Nigel.

I have to admit that I am enjoying this show.  While it is totally bizarre, I find the lies that Emma tells to be humorous as are the reactions to them.  

The office dynamics are funny including the wheelchair-bound character.  I love how Sally plays the straight-man role to everyone.

The last scene was totally disgusting but I did find the director's commentary funny as well as his plea to Sally to "get involved."

Don't know if anyone's watched her in 'Night Night', but this more or less the same character ratcheted to 10. Total psycho-sociopath controlling gaslighter user leech.  Though, I'm much more 'hating' on Sally for being so flippln' stupid and wishy-washy. A person with self respect would tell Emma, get lost before I call the cops at the first or second signs of psycho behavior

Yeah, this stuff is definitely not for everyone. Maybe they should create a genre labeled 'cringe comedy' if they haven't done already.

Sally can’t get rid of Emma.  Their couples therapist was in on gaslighting her.

So she sleeps with Nigel which only causes more drama from Emma.  Sally is forced into accepting another marriage proposal.

But not before Sally torments Emma with details about the sex.

Looks like she’s going to have to fuck more coworkers to get away from Emma.

This show is hysterical -- just found it and binged the first 4 (or 5 now?). Emma the Sociopath is hilarious, I love watching her bullshit escalate.

I’ve reached my limit of watching Sally not have a backbone.  Also, her having sex with Nigel was really handled clumsily...until then I never saw her show any reciprocal interest in him, suddenly they banged and are heart eye emojis together?

The therapist must be a plant of Emma’s, to so clearly and unprofessionally favor Emma and try to push Sally further into this unhealthy relationship that she has said makes her unhappy, but why would the ER doctor also be so pushy? Emma shows herself to be a total asshole immediately, why are so many people on her team?

I guess we have to be familiar with her other shows.  Glanced through a Guardian interview where Davis talks about extreme and unlikable characters.

This is apparently her first show since the British version of Camping and in that time both her parents died of cancer.

She does a podcast where her extreme humor is also showcased.

 

I think Nigel kind of had an interest and her coworkers were talking about getting with her.  Eleanor saw Sally as a threat.

As for Sally, I think she wanted to punish or maybe even drive Emma away by having sex with Nigel and flaunting it in her face.

Not sure how much more they can do with this show because at some point, Sally is going to kick her out.  Also she may have to move out soon herself because David said he has to sell the house.

Since the show is written by/directed by and STARRING Julia Davis, Emma will continue to be the focal point in the show.   Too bad (for me).  When she's not included, the series seems like a very clever show written, perhaps, by Ricky Gervais.  I like all the odd characters and situations--like the actors chosen for the parts, but Emma goes too far.  Maybe I'm not British enough.

I think they dated (and more?) before she got sucked into the exciting whirlwind of romance with David.  Nigel seems to carry a torch and Eleanor hates the flame.

MsRachelJ, what's most hilarious about your comment (and I agree about the disgusting factor...can't imagine it until you see it...well used) is that here is your comment...right in the open, yet the "pedicure" is under "Reveal Hidden Contents."

Perhaps this forum is better written than the show.

One of my "kids" (the age of Julia Davis, one of the "older women" having sex...mentioned above) is coming over tonight for dinner--and to use my KitchenAid mixer for his office cookie exchange.  The number of cookies required has been changed from 24 to 60!  I will to introduce him to the wonder of Sally4Ever.  Wonder if I'll ever see him again.

Emma’s a raging narcissist and now she’s wetting the bed.  Lesbian prison indeed.

Nigel is a bit of a sloppy drunk, hasn’t made distasteful noises.  Yet.

Deborah offers Sally “hot and frothy” and farts, which rightly makes her run.

Now if she only figures out to run the hell away from Emma.

As far as I am concerned, the less of Emma the better the episode.  I said earlier that this would be better as a workplace comedy, and I stand by that.  There should be more of Eleanor.  The last scene in episode 6 actually had me laughing out loud. 

There is too much reliance on the gross out humor overall which doesn't serve much toward plot but seems to be there just for the sake of perversity. It's like little kids putting on a play on their own and getting carried away to the point where being obnoxious and boring overrides any charm.

Jane Stanness (Deborah) was hilarious in the last episode.   Her relentless pursuit of Sally was great.  I laughed out loud when she asked Sally to go down on her, wondering if "it was too big due to the exercising" (I am paraphrasing).

She really carried that episode.

It is interesting that the only person Sally can say no to is Nigel even though he may be the only one she wants.

I couldn’t tell at first if Emma was just a homeless grifter who came onto Sallly to take over the home.

First part of this finale, she is spending money like crazy at that castle resort and extended overdraft on Sally’s account.  Probably wrecked her finances with what she did to that hotel room.

But it’s clear that she’s psycho about, like boiling rabbits crazy.

Unless there’s a famous director or actor around, in which case she’s the biggest star fucker, trying to catch her big break.  If Ned Stark didn’t bow out the right way, she might have gone all Cersei on him.

 

Show could be very funny alone on cultural satire kind of way, kind of like Extras was, especially the shenanigans that Sally’s former coworkers get up to.

Some of the gross out humor would be okay in small doses, like the first shots of projectile vomiting.  But they kept piling on the gross stuff on the bed.

How would they even continue?  All Sally and Nigel have to do is get Emma arrested, though is their marriage still inforce?  Sally prolonged this the last few eps. by not telling Emma to get lost.  Presumably she won’t have any problems saying it and taking measures to keep her away.

I forgot this had one more episode. I'm used to the Brit shows having 6 per season. So I just finished this up and...there were just too many bodily fluid and awkward sex scenes for me. 

I did like the very last scene, no matter how unrealistic it was. It was unexpected and not gross.

I only just now found this forum. I kinda liked this show. I particularly liked the guest stars who played themselves. Lena Headey and Sean Bean both made me laugh out loud. I suspect Julia Davis is an acquired taste.
