thuganomics85 October 20, 2018 Share October 20, 2018 "Job is a pussy!" Well, I guess Matt won't be leading Bible Study anytime soon! Good news for Matt is that he is still alive, and even is somewhat nursed back to health by Father Lantom and this Sister Maggie nun. Bad news is he seems to be feeling some residual effects in his right ear that makes him go deaf for a bit, which messes up his sweet fighting skills. I guess he has more work to do! Poor Karen finding ways to keep Matt's apartment from getting taken away. I don't blame Foggy for assuming Matt's truly gone though. I did love that the Matt/Karen flashback included him bitching about Frank Castle. The Devil of Hell's Kitchen has a bit of a competitive streak for the affections of Karen Page! Wilson Fisk is back, baby! Already more interested is his return then the entire arc with The Hand. Not sure what to make of the FBI agent. Will his desperation make him throw in with the Kingpin? Let us see how this season plays out! 3 Link to comment
Lady Calypso October 20, 2018 Share October 20, 2018 I'm happy for this show to be back. After struggling, and failing, to finish some of the other Marvel series, I was worried that this long hiatus might have turned me off of this show, even with watching The Defenders. I'm glad to see my excitement is still pretty high. Welcome back, Matt Murdock. You still have a long way to go to be back 100% but you're getting there. I'm glad they're slowly easing his way back into the road to recovery. I'm glad they established that it's been months and he's still healing. It's going to be interesting to see him really get back on his feet; who knew the secret to that was clearing his sinuses?! Sister Maggie is pretty damn awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed her and her dynamic with Matt. I'm glad to see Karen being typical Karen, holding on to hope that Matt is still alive, while Foggy is struggling to accept that he's gone as well. I'm thrilled for the Matt/Karen flashback. I've missed their dynamic without stupid Elektra getting in the way. Although I don't believe she's gone, I do hope she's no more than a mention at this point. Matt needs time to heal and Elektra always brings him down. Oh hey, it's Wilson Fisk! His arc has to be more interesting than any of the Hand stuff, right? I liked him to a point in season 1 but did grow a bit tired of him. But after seeing the Hand stuff and having so much of Elektra ruin Matt, I'm ready for Fisk to make his return. As for the new FBI guy, Ray, he's not so bad so far. They did a solid job at establishing his backstory and motivations in about fifteen minutes, so at least they have somewhere to go with him. Overall, I am very excited. I don't know if I'll be able to keep up with commenting on each episode, since I definitely want to get through the whole season this weekend. 6 Link to comment
maczero October 20, 2018 Share October 20, 2018 Is it correct to assume dd season 3 is taking place at the same time as season 2 of the other Marvel Netflix shows? Link to comment

You could assume there is some overlap since it hasn't been that long since the Midland Circle collapse, I think they use the term "months" but never specify how many, but in general they seem to be going consecutively. This would have to be post Punisher, obviously, and Iron Fist definitely followed Luke Cage Spoiler The bulk of this season would have to be after Iron Fist, since it's clear Danny believes Matt is dead. It would be hard to imagine he wouldn't have noticed a return of Daredevil all over the news, especially a murderous one. I would imagine the same would apply to Jessica Jones In the grander MCU, all of the shows still take place before "the snap", according to the showrunner. 1 1 Link to comment
GHScorpiosRule October 21, 2018 Share October 21, 2018 (edited) I’m SO HAPPY to have my favorite show back!!!! But I have to say this because it’s bugging the hell out of me-the few sentences Ray (FBI GUY) and his wife speaking in Hindi was AWFUL. Meaning the Hindi was awful. Don’t even know why they put it in when they were whispering alone. So because he’s put himself in debt to help his sister-in-law, he’s a poor risk for advancement? Maybe if he’d gotten the pay bumps he wouldn’t be in debt? But aside from ????? at that scene, I’m very happy to have my show back! And add me to the list hoping we don’t see it here from Electra again. And I know I’m in the minority, but I just ?? at Karen in the flashback treating Matt as I’d he had cheated on her when he said he wasn’t going to be Dare Devil anymore and she’s all “I waaant to believe you” nonsense. Yeah, Yeah, he shoulda told her about who he was but apparently not soon enough. Whatever. This from the same woman who lied and kept her own fucking sekrits. And the opening credits is still the kewlest and the music awesome! Edited October 22, 2018 by GHScorpiosRule STOOPID AUTOCORRECT!!!? 1 Link to comment
MisterGlass October 21, 2018 Share October 21, 2018 I liked the Karen and Matt flashback. It gives some more perspective on how they ended up where they did, and it highlight's Matt's view that he's more morally justified than other vigilantes. If/when it comes up that Karen killed Wesley, I'll be interested to hear Matt's reaction. I'm a fan of Sister Maggie's refusal to accept self-pity, though I didn't anticipate the depth of Matt's depression. I hope Electra does not show up in this season. 2 Link to comment
Danny Franks October 21, 2018 Share October 21, 2018 So happy to have this show back. It's definitely the flagship of Netflix's Marvel fleet (particularly after Jessica Jones season 2 was so disappointing). Ah, Joanne Whalley... one of my first real celebrity crushes. I loved her in Willow (which probably goes some way to explaining my attraction to tough, badass women), and then in Scandal. She seems to have aged fairly gracefully, but still seems tough and badass. It looks like this season is going to give Charlie Cox a lot of more subtle acting to do, as well as the physicality of Daredevil. He's got such a magnetic way of speaking, and really draws you in. And clearly they're going to lean heavily on his Catholic guilt for it. Sister Maggie having none of his shit about any of it is great. I wasn't expecting to see the flashback to when Matt revealed his identity to Karen. Very cool. She was righteously pissed, and of course had the same questions as Foggy - "can you see me?" And yeah, it is humiliating to find out just how much Matt can know about you, and how much he's lied. Especially when you feel for him like Karen does for Matt. But now she's still holding out hope that he's going to cheat death one more time. She gets a lot of hate, but I think Karen Page is pretty awesome, and Deborah Ann Woll has done a great job with the character. I love the friendship between her and Foggy, I'm really glad Fisk is the big bad again, this season. The ninjas in season 2 got old really quickly. And again, he and Matt seem to have journeys that mirror one another. In season 1, they were both doing what they thought was right for the city (Fisk wanting to gentrify the city to attract better people, Matt wanting to help the people already living there). Now, they've both lost it all (or think they have) and feel like they've little else to lose. I guess the new FBI guy, Nadeem?, is going to be falling under Fisk's thumb, at some point. Predictable, but that doesn't mean it's a bad story device. Men like Fisk are always on the look out for vulnerabilities, as Nadeem's boss pointed out. 6 Link to comment
blueray October 21, 2018 Share October 21, 2018 (edited) Was I the only one confused by Nadeem suddenly coming in? I honestly thought Netflix jumped to another show and checked to make sure I didn't click something. It seemed to go on for ever and had no tie to anything until the end when he met with Fisk. I guess they wanted to give him background without knowing how to do it. Anyhow, I'm glad that Daredevil is back. So he has spend the last few months healing and the nurse helped him clear his senses so now everything is turning back to normal for him including his hearing. He is still got a bit to go before he is able to fight again. I did wish he would tell Kareen and Foggy that he's alive. But I guess he really didn't want to go back to being Matt, which is what he would be doing. Oh and I really liked the flashbacks as it filled in the gap between season 2 and the Defenders which was missing. Edited October 21, 2018 by blueray Link to comment
Captanne October 22, 2018 Share October 22, 2018 (edited) I love this show -- I really do. But, seriously, SO. MUCH. MANPAIN. ETA: So that is Joanne Whalley. Huh. I barely recognized her. She looks -- thin and worn. I remember her from Willow and a couple of other things she did. (Aside from marrying Val Kilmer whom I loved, loved, loved, and still feel great affection for even though he's a bit off the deep end now.) I am enjoying in performance more than I usually do in the cliche Marvel world (you know, the patient, tough female voice of reason. Every series has one.) Also, FTR, I cannot stand Electra -- both the actress who plays her and the character -- so if she becomes some Moby Dick for Daredevil's Ahab, I will lose a large part of my motivation for watching. Because I really don't understand his motivation. Also, about her, if Daredevil is hiding undercover with the manpain excuse "I'm no good for my frieeeeeeendssssssss......." then why on Earth wouldn't he assume that Electra would do the same. Stop asking if she's alive, dude. That's just dumb. Edited October 22, 2018 by Captanne Link to comment

mledawn October 24, 2018 Share October 24, 2018 (edited) I thought the ep set up the series nicely, although I agree that Nadeem came (seemingly) out of nowhere. I didn't understand the switch to speaking Hindi since it was in front of the kid - wouldn't their kid speak Hindi, the language of the house? Matt and the Neti pot was so gross but so relateable! Dislodging something big is like heaven! TMI, apologies :) Also, I'm going to need Matt to be less whiny going forward (fingers crossed). I'm looking forward to this series but am a bit nervous as everything aside from The Punisher and Jessica Jones season one was a bit of a letdown. Anela November 1, 2018 Share November 1, 2018 I was heating up chili as we got that lovely sinus-clearing scene, so all that came from me was, "Gross. Thanks, Netflix." Joanne Whalley. I thought I recognized the actress. It's been a long time since I've seen her in anything. I'm not religious, and don't enjoy scenes featuring religion like that (I just know more than a few religious hypocrites), but I also don't appreciate people bringing up my dead mother, and telling me what she would think, or would say/do. I'm not down with the shaming. I also hope Electra doesn't turn up again. 1 Link to comment

Captanne December 17, 2018 Share December 17, 2018 Joanne Whaley entered my orbit of film knowledge when she costarred with a very young Val Kilmer in "Willow". The two married and I think they had a couple of children. They subsequently divorced. I'm terrible with facial recognition but her looks remind me of Kate Bush. 1 Link to comment

I'm glad we got to see Karen's reaction to finding out Matt's secret ID. Foggy got a haircut, thank god. Yeah, promoting an FBI agent who's buried in debt because he's a recruitment risk is a good idea. Let's send him to interrogate the guy who's known for bribing police and prison guards to be on his payroll instead. Nice job Tammy! Edited December 23, 2018 by VCRTracking 1 Link to comment
