In an emergency, it would actually be Casey who acts to protect the crew on the deck of the Cornelia Marie, Jake would be busy mugging for the camera or manscaping his facial topiary.   Wild Bill's issue is likely to be something catastrophic with his hip.

Jake is on the Saga.  Josh Harris is the "co-captain" (hard to type that without laughing out loud) on the CM.

You are absolutely right.  I keep calling Josh Harris by his brother's name.  Done that for years for some reason.  Sorry about that.

Change of prediction.  Jake will freak out and scream at people.

So lemme get this straight, Monte brings the boat back full up for the quota.   Nobody gets hurt, etc.   But because he doesn't kiss Psycho Freddie's ass enough Keith kicks him off the boat?   Keith literally chooses Freddie -- WHO ALMOST FUCKING PUNCHED ANOTHER CREW MEMBER THIS YEAR -- over his brother?   Because Freddie works so hard?   Does Keith not remember having to leave without Freddie because Freddie pulled his "Freddie leaves when Freddie is ready" stunt?

I know, I know, the script said so.

So is everyone supposed to stroke Freddie's dick while telling him he is pretty. No one would put up with his psycho shit. I thought Montie  said it in a jokey kinda way until Keith and Freddie got butt hurt over it. I did think Montie forgot his place while captioning the boat in regards to Harry and not letting him do anything.

I might have cared more about the Wild Bill Zack storyline about  his hip if he actually told his son and not had Sean do it. Maybe they just wanted to plug Sean's dead dad again. Wouldn't be an episode of deadliest catch if someone's dead isn't dead.

Who the hell keeps fucking with Jake. There has to be some kind of pay off with the last two weeks Jake gets "pranked."

Fucking Keith.  Choosing Freddie Crew-ger over his own brother.

I guess the Captain Beach Commander crack cut deep; that, and Monte bringing home "the best catch ever."   It was more than fatso Keith could bear (you're one to talk about people getting too big for their britches, Keith).

Freddy is an asshole, always has been.   I remember him brutally bullying a greenhorn a few seasons ago for not wanting the mohawk.    I remember him being left behind because he was too drunk to sail.   If Freddy were a standup guy, he would have brushed it aside with Monty for the ship's welfare, saying don't worry about it even if it Monte's words stung a little.

Monte was tone deaf in that situation and he obviously didn't know now to back out of it gracefully.   But Keith exacerbated big time, getting on the horn and publicly asking Freddy if his feelings were hurt.

It occurred to me that Bill would have treated Zack the same shitty way Keith treated Monty.   And that if push came to shove, Sig would probably shit on Edgar too.

I know salt water is corrosive but I never imagined it ate away at familial bonds.

Assuming this isn't some more made up drama (like maybe a setup for Monte to get his own boat next season), leave it to Keith to spoil a perfectly nice after catch celebration.

And what is it with Keith and Freddy?  It's almost like they bring out the inner psycho in one another (though with Freddy, it doesn't seem to need much coaxing).   And I know Keith pays well and that's a steady job with him on his boat, but...all things being equal, I'd MUCH rather work for Monte than Keith.  Because you never know when Keith is just gonna lose it.

And now especially so that he will side with Freddy in almost any sort of dispute.  Even one with his own brother.

The REAL issue for Keith is that Monte ran the boat well and successfully brought the catch in without Keith.    Keith's outburst was the equivalent of a kid making other kids go home when a game doesn't go his way.

I was reminded in this episode that Freddie loves that camera time ALMOST as much as Josh Harris.  Every time he knows the camera is there, he's dancing, shadow-boxing, making some type of noise so that the focus goes on him.

He may well be a hard worker, but he's also a poor team member.  Monty went to Freddie on his way off the ship and said, "I did not mean to disrespect you."  To me, acknowledging one's own bad behavior ("Tyler is a better stack man than Freddie") is close enough to an apology to count.  Had he not said, "But I'm not going to apologize," things might have gone differently.

Having said that, Keith was just jealous that Monty brought in more crab - in bad weather - than Keith ever has.  If Monty needs to learn people management skills, what skills does Keith need to brush up on?  Anger Management 101?  Verbal Communication without Expletives?  Appreciation?

I met someone in Homer a few years ago who knows all the captains.  When I asked her what they were like in real life, she described Keith as "nasty."  Yep.  I can see that.

Any idea on why Wild Bill came to Columbia, SC for his hip?  That has me puzzled as I don't know of any connections he has to Columbia much less Midlands Ortho.  Here I am watching the Deadliest Catch and then I start seeing road signs that I know very well and pulls into an Ortho clinic that I was a patient at in the past.

Also, Keith is one big ass!  What he did to Monte was totally uncalled for.  I know Keith is Godfather to one of Freddie's children but Monte has saved Keith's ass on many occasions. Plus we already know that Freddie is a mean drunk and he has already left the Wizard high & dry in the past.  Come to think of it, Freddie disrespected Monte that night Monte fired him.  Guess he can dish it but not take it.  Keith should have kept his big mouth shut and not egg that crap on.  Freddie is a time bomb waiting to happen again.  I know that fight with Dane was started by Dane but Freddie was ready to start fights with the engineer because he wasn't working the deck all the time.

I was curious about that myself.  I looked up his bio.  He was raised in Pennsylvania and his home is in Mexico.  Columbia is a great town (Go Cocks!) but it did seem a bit out of the blue.  One interview he says that he goes to a bass tourney there every year.  Maybe he was there for something like that and finally had enough of the pain.

Script shenanigans.  Ridiculous.

I want to know how the Wizard harvested double or more Opies than any other boat in the same amount of time it took the others to harvest theirs, Sig included.  The others would have known Keith had waaaaaay more quota and would have watched him as he laid strings.  If he stayed in an area, you can bet your butt they would have steamed to that area if they were struggling (Hellllooooo Sig).  Or, the Wizard stayed out well past the time of any other F/V Disco follows.  Did any of you get any sense of the disparities?

Now.  It may have been an earlier ep, but how do these captains keep a straight face with their on-camera nuggets of wisdom?  We had some huge and rough seas.  Then, a big wave crashes into an F/V.  What does the captain never fail to say? "Man, a rogue wave came out of NOWHERE!"  Yeah.  Out of heavy seas came a big wave.  Unexpectedly!  Shocking!

Wild Bill fishes the bass tourney at Lake Murray?  That's interesting.  Or maybe he has become a Gamecock fan like Dale, Jr.  Go Cocks!

I hope that somebody else does give Monty a job captaining a boat. He has proven many times that he's very good.

I really can't stand watching him take Keith's craziness anymore.

The person above who said that the whole incident was about Keith being jealous was dead right. Keith was going to jump on the first thing that he could possibly find to "put Monty in his place." He was burning with jealousy. That's why he flew up to Dutch in the first place. He went up there to meet the boat and fire Monty.

Keith was definitely trying to reassert himself as alpha captain. I can't recall if Monte was on previous Bait episodes and if they appeared to work things out or what. I've never really understood their partnership. It's Keith's boat, Monte doesn't have any interest? Maybe Keith has asked him in the past and he refused and just wanted a salary? Or Keith wanted it that way?

Monte's no angel - I seem to recall him ganging up with Soper on the greenhorns back in the day. But he's better off out of this toxic relationship. Even if Keith's not drinking, he's a dry drunk, driving everybody who actually does care away. Well, maybe Freddie will stop by and visit you at your trailer at the fishing camp you live in eventually. Or not - he may have another father figure to worship by then. I hope Monte moves on now while Keith's still young enough to maybe grasp a lesson out of somebody (other than his wife) walking away and then staying there.

It's stuff like this that makes it impossible for me to watch The Bait.   These guys are interesting at sea, in the thick of it, but watching them sitting around a table acting like drinking buddies and playing stupid games is more than I can swallow.    There isn't one of them I would want to know in real life.   They are not very likeable human beings.

According to one of the "On Deck" pop ups, the doctor he saw is one of the top hip specialists in the country.

Keith is the reason I stopped watching the show years ago.

What struck me was as the Wizard was coming in to dock, we see a view of Keith on shore, through the wheelhouse window, with a Disco camera crew filming him. That means he'd have to have notified production to say that he was coming up to Dutch to meet the boat, and that they should have a team ready for him. I'd liked Keith over the last couple of seasons, after he seemed to be a bit calmer toward staff and had come to terms of his alcohol problems and the failure of his marriage. I was hoping he'd turned a corner, but he just wasted everything in that one act. Was it played up for TV consumption? Maybe, who knows. Did he just come from a bar in town, perhaps?? In the end, he's proven to be the same old douchecanoe he always was. Sad, really.

I generally like strong leaders with a strict moral compass who take no shit from anybody, don't suffer fools and don't accept excuses for failure. I learn best from the Professor Kingsfields of the world. There's some of that in Keith, but too much bad juju and rage to go along with it.
