Rebecca June 1, 2018 Share June 1, 2018 (edited) On 5/30/2018 at 1:29 PM, Kazu said: Leah only brings out the chair because the cameras are around. She does it because she has been slammed on social media by people who remind her that her child should be using a wheelchair or motorized scooter. She has faced the wrath for ignoring the doctor's orders. She doesn't use the chair when MTV is not around, as her social media pages reflect. Her former father-in-law also has images on his social media pages which show Ali playing in sports and doing activities that she should be prohibited from doing per Dr. Tsao's orders. The entire family, as BitterApple, noted is notorious for ignoring what is in the best interest of this child. Also, the wheelchair is not supposed to be used for times of fatigue. It is meant to be used by Ali so she is not using her muscles which are deteriorating every time she is allowed to walk or be active. As for Ali feeling normal, she is a normal child who just happens to suffer from a medical condition that requires her to be in a motorized scooter. Leah and her family could have normalized her life by not pushing her to fit in with the rest of her siblings. Ali needs to feel comfortable and be seen as a child who may not be able to run and play sports, but be viewed as a person who is fully capable of doing other activities and participating in life like everyone else. It is as if Leah and the rest of the family are ashamed or embarrassed of having a child with special needs. Ali should not have those feelings put upon her. Plenty of people use wheelchairs and motorized scooters and are living life to their fullest. By this stage, Ali should be using that chair anytime she is not in her bed. She would have been accustomed to it by now and she would have embraced it. The same way Leah and company made sure she wore her eyeglasses ALL THE TIME since she was a toddler, that is how they should have been with the motorized scooter. I wrote out a very long reply in notepad before reading but you said it much better so I’ll just say, ALL OF THIS. On 5/30/2018 at 1:34 PM, poeticlicensed said: Yep, if they had normalized the use of the wheelchair in their daily lives, it would be better for everyone and Ali would be more accepting of it. . I swear, every time Ali falls down, I am cringing. One of these days she is going to suffer a serious injury and end up hospitalized or have to have surgery and be bedridden for months. Exactly. It breaks my heart and I’m not one to feel that way often about what I see on reality shows. On 5/30/2018 at 2:59 PM, SPLAIN said: Now, her memories may be short-lived because her family doesn't abide by the orders of the specialist. Better to live in a wheelchair and go trick-or-treating than to die at a young age and never have that chance again. Exactly. A wheelchair isn’t some kind of death sentence but all the walking, running, etc might very well be. On 5/30/2018 at 5:35 PM, Kazu said: I agree. I also thought Dom resembled someone else other than the people that have already been mentioned so far. Is this Dom's twin: It is not just Halloween @Mothra. It has been non-stop for the last four seasons. I certainly wasn't arguing or trying to incite an argument. Sorry if you took it that way. That is not what is happening. You presented to us your opinion on what Leah is doing as if it is a rare occurrence for her to have her child not use her wheelchair when in fact, it has been an on-going matter that is jeopardizing her daughter's health. If Ali had fallen down on the sidewalk, she would have been hurt due to the fact she wasn't wearing her medically required helmet or her medically required knee pads. Ali has also shown she pushes herself without ever saying she is tired. She has been shown swimming and running around when it was clear she was over-exerting herself. She is not capable of informing her mother she is tired and needs her chair. Her chair is not there for when the child is tired. It is supposed to be used at all times. It is not about us having to agree with someone's opinion as much as pointing out the facts as @missy jo posted. There are some things that we discuss, give opinions on and snark on, but this is not one of them. It is a collective group sharing information that has been directed to Leah Messer on camera on over the seasons by Dr. Tsao. It is not our opinions that Leah is harming her daughter. It is A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL'S OPINION that Ali is being pushed to her limits BASED ON INFORMATION LEAH AND CORY HAVE GIVEN HIM. Those two went to him and informed him how she is falling down constantly and she is complaining about pain and losing control of her muscles. With that information and the testing he has done to Ali along with his expertise regarding this rare disorder, he gave them his professional opinion which was her life will be cut short the way things are going. @IDreamofJoaquin OMG Thank you!! lol I am glad you posted this because it is so true! If one doesn't watch certain scenes or watch the show, you are missing out on information. @heatherchandler it was @Rebecca who mentioned the insulin. I mentioned the other stuff about not letting a child dictate their health choices. :-) I also fully agree with your post here: Gracias x100! It is a matter of life and death. No gray area in between. Either do as the doctor ordered or watch your child suffer and die. Again, you said it all before I could. On 5/30/2018 at 8:19 PM, heatherchandler said: Ooh I’m sorry @Rebecca! That was a good analogy. Exactly @Kazu- it’s a matter of life and death, no gray area! Thanks, the reason I thought of it in the first place is because I have a cousin who has had diabetes since childhood. Obviously his mom didn’t let him be “normal” and eat the candy on Halloween that he trick or treated. His family did what they could by replacing things with sugar free items to make him feel included but it still wasn’t the same as what the other kids were eating, obviously. That was his reality though so they adjusted things to accommodate his needs. I’m certain it sucked for him at times but he accepted it because no one ever acted like it was a choice and his parents normalized his needs from the start. It scares me to think of what Leah would do in this situation. T’s advice and medical expertise THAN WHY ISNT SHE GETTING OTHER OPINIONS! She has the means, she has the platform, she has the reach, she has the support, she has the money, then WHY? Why not TRY to get another opinion if you don’t want to totally believe dr. T? Instead of waiting for god and prayers to cure her, why don’t you take her to different specialists? Different types of drs? It almost seems lazy and uneducated to not at least find out what other drs. Have to say! Sorry I had to say that. P.S. The word it’s i was thinking was irresponsible. It’s irresponsible of her not to get a second, third, fourth opinion. Good point. I’m not sure it’s that she doesn’t believe him necessarily but she’d make herself look less lazy and stupid if she looked into other things instead of going to him over and over and not listening to what he advises. Our son has gone out with some young women with kids. One of them was a real winner. On their first date, she showed up with her baby and expected my husband and I to babysit! I said no and told her she really shouldn't leave her baby with strangers and she also shouldn't bring guys around her kid until she knew them. There wasn't a second date ? Good lord. I'm having trouble envisioning the massive cajones someone must have to show up for a first date with their kid and expect strangers to babysit (not to mention being totally okay with actual strangers watching her child.) That....just wow. 10 Link to comment
Abmis June 4, 2018 Share June 4, 2018 (edited) I wish Leah had tried something like these for Ali: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/kids-wheelchair-halloween-costumes_us_5813cbffe4b0390e69d06368 When I Googled Halloween costumes for kids in wheelchairs all kids of things came up. Creating a costume for Ali could have been a fun family project. Ali could have had fun selecting one and she would have been a hit everywhere she went. A college friend has a son who is in a wheelchair and they LOVE to do this at Halloween. Every year they try to top the year before and they've come up with some amazing costumes! 6 Link to comment
