Lady Calypso June 19, 2017 Share June 19, 2017 First impressions without the bios? One older guy in his fifties, a few extra 30 year olds, which is nice, a few POCs, and the rest are bland, white people. Oh, and the obligatory geek who's probably awkward. So far, it doesn't SEEM like they're relatives to anyone. Also, is it sad that I immediately started looking for the one LGBTQ houseguest, since they can't have more than one a season? Man, this show has me racist and homophobic to an extent. I also hope the one black girl isn't some sassy black chick that they tend to cast. 3 Link to comment

Lady Calypso June 19, 2017 Share June 19, 2017 Here's a little bit more information about the new houseguests: http://tvline.com/gallery/big-brother-season-19-cast/#!1/big-brother-102/ New impressions? Damnit, I was hoping for the best with only black chick. White haired guy who says that he'd befriend the females to manipulate? Mmmhmm, sure, buddy. The girl with the weird Cindy Lou Who hair and weird hippie name's favourite houseguest is Frankie, so I'm definitely avoiding her (I remember the last houseguest who deemed Frankie as their favourite....). One more link to full bios: http://bigbrothernetwork.com/big-brother-19-cast/ Which I will look over and review a little later. Link to comment

Katesus7 June 19, 2017 Share June 19, 2017 I've been watching some of the Jeff interviews, and am absolutely obsessed with Kevin. His voice sounds straight out of central casting - total mob boss. He seems fun, though, we'll see how he gets along with all these young folks. Everyone else I've seen so far is a total meh. Link to comment
Lady Calypso June 19, 2017 Share June 19, 2017 Hmm. So this may be the first season where I've read the bios and don't have a frontrunner that inevitably changes. Some of them start off interesting, until I got to a part of their bio that made me make this face: Alex seems harmless, but she's apparently announcing to people that she's had a boob job and her parents don't know? Ok, girl. She also takes a lot of photos because she can't decide on one good photo. She also has beginner's luck, insinuating that she could win by sheer luck. I don't hate her, but I don't really like her either. Cameron=resident nerd of the season. He likes Ian, he solves Rubik's Cubes and plays online chess, and he's a gamer. Although he does seem to do a lot of outdoor sports, like snowboarding and biking, so at least he has something different. I'm ambivalent to him, but I like him more than most. Christmas is part of the 30s crowd and she almost had me...until she named Helen as her favourite houseguest. Her work history is at least interesting and different, and I could end up liking her. She's on my "Wait To See" list. Cody looks like a cross between Monte and Corey. He's also part of the 30s crowd and seems...eh. His favourite is Evel Dick. He does have a planned out strategy, like a few of them. He also is into Rubik's Cubes. He also has never worn a suit or taken a selfie. Oh, and he's never been offended. I bet we'll see that truth in the house. I got very little opinion of him at the moment. He seems like he could be pretty boring. Also, he's not attractive to me. Dominique- I'm holding out hope that she'll turn out to be likable and not a Zakiyah or DaVonne. She has no favourites of the BB previous houseguest. She claims that she can read people "really well". She likes reading the Bible, and wants to remain neutral. I honestly got nothing and hope she doesn't turn out like BBOTT Danielle either. Elena seems...eh. With her starting off with her favourite activity being "shaking her booty", and her mentioning something about "beer kazooies"(??), it's really not looking great for her. She also likes James because "he was fun". Jason is not looking like a favourite of mine, but I can't really tell because there's nothing to go on from his bio. I get wanting to maintain a little mystery for the viewers, so I wouldn't want to share my strategy either. But....there's legit nothing to really go on. He likes James? He likes the rodeo? The most difficult part of BB is using the bathroom? He says he's a story teller. Really? Doesn't look like it from the bio. Jessica reminds me a little of Natalie, and I get the feeling that she shaded Natalie with her "my boobs are real" comment. She also likes Janelle, so at least it seems like she's watched the show. The one thing that puts me off is her wanting to team up with a male competitor, but at least she seems like she'll be entertaining. Her bio got me at least interested. Jillian's favourite is Dani Donato, so she caught my eye. Her bio was looking good. She really caught my eye with her favourite activities and I understood her reasons for the difficulty that she listed. But you know how I said that there was one thing in each bio that got me to make that Britney face? Well, that was until she said that her main alliance would be with the guys, which "nobody would expect". And that turned down my interest quite a bit. She is self-naming herself as a big villain, which I don't see happening. Josh seems like he could either be really fun, or really underwhelming. He also named Evel Dick as his favourite, but under like MonCorey, he seems like he has the potential to deliver...if he lives up to his bio. But on a likability level? He doesn't seem like he'll be watchable for long on my screen. But if he's a fun douchebag, then sure, why not? Kevin is the token old guy. He could either be evicted first week or last until the middle. I could see some of the houseguests taking him in solely because of his age and for collateral, which could help him make it longer. He doesn't seem as nice as Donny, but I hope he gets farther than most. Mark is the residental dudebro, it seems. Not much in his bio, and he seems very bland and boring. Which means he'll get into a showmance with someone and I'll hate it. Matthew has some likable qualities from his bio (likes panda videos, likes Donny), but he wants to befriend the women to manipulate them and he seems like a heavy drinker. I'm not really sure if he'll be an entertaining drunk or an irritating drunk. I'm on the fence about him. Megan seems like she could be entertaining. I kind of love that she didn't put the BS about hiking and doing many outdoor activities. She has claimed the paranoia card, so we'll see about her. She did lose some points with mentioning Frank as her favourite, but she seems like she'll be enjoyable to watch...for a time. Overall, her bio is the closest that got me rooting for her, so she's tentatively the only member of my Frontrunner List. Ramses is the residental gay guy, it seems. He's also the claimed superfan and...talks a lot in his bio. Like, a lot. He does like Dan, so that earns him points. He does lose some points with some of his strategy. Next to Megan, he could end up being an early favourite, but I also see that changing at some point. He's on my Wait and See list. And Raven. Nope, nope, nopety nope. She has some interesting points, but her favourite is Frankie and she actually goes into detail, so I'm out with her. She seems TOO quirky. 5 Link to comment

Now, I don't actualy have to listen to them until they enter the house. LOL!! I'm curious to see how Kevin Schlehuber plays. He's the old guy (Gasp! He's in his 50's). He could voted out first like Glenn or go far into the game. BTW! The average age is 29.4375. Wow! That's practically ancient for BB. LOL!!! Edited June 19, 2017 by ByaNose 7 Link to comment

This isn't even me watching the interviews, which I typically don't. I'm just skimming the bios at work while I type my opinions in between tasks. But I might have to watch the interviews this time around because I have no choices of favourites! Only choices that could be favourites. Oh, also, before I forget, apparently the feeds will be on a few days earlier as we see the houseguests enter through the diary room one by one. I don't have a source at the moment, but it's from an official BB Twitter. I can't quite confirm right now, so it may not be entirely true. Link to comment

I didn't think my eyebrows could get any higher as I kept scrolling down and saw that there were a handful of 30+ year olds. Finally! People my own age! It's gonna be so much fun judging them and not excusing their behavior for being young. Also: Christmas? God, there's going to be some twee reasoning behind her name. Good thing she wasn't casted last year, what with Corey's obsession about Christmas and Christmas related things. ETA: Actually, that would have been brilliant. And it would have sent Nicole around the bend. Damn it! Missed opportunity! Edited June 19, 2017 by Callaphera 9 Link to comment
peachmangosteen June 19, 2017 Share June 19, 2017 (edited) Based on the interviews the only people I had strong feelings about were Jessica and Cody in the dislike category and Dominique and Raven in the like category. I was mostly indifferent towards everyone else. That will surely change by at least the first night of the feeds though. I thought Mark was real adorable, but I'm afraid he'll turn out to be awful. I just wanna see the house already. And find out the inevitable stupid, horrible twist. Edited June 19, 2017 by peachmangosteen 1 Link to comment

Lady Calypso June 19, 2017 Share June 19, 2017 So, I'm going to be completely shallow for a second and then I'll move on: none of the guys are attractive to me. There's always been one man that's been my eye-candy (OTT was Shane, 18 had a couple but mostly Corey, 17 had Clay, etc). This season has no guys I can look at and say "hey, you're dumb and a jerk, but at least you're pretty to look at so I can tune out your douchebaggery/stupidity for a minute so I'm not clawing my ears out." Matthew might be the closest that's attractive to me. Ramses may be the next closest. And I took a quick listen to each of the interviews, just enough to get a good idea of each houseguest. I do keep in mind that these interviews aren't necessarily their true personalities, since many will still be faking it to get into the house and be liked, but they can help with my later judgments. Let me just remind everyone: Jeff is the worst interviewer ever. How he keeps his job, I'll never know. There are plenty of BB alumni who can do a better job than him. Ramses- He was very excited to be there, which is always fun to see. He seems like he'll be a guy that I won't hate watching....for now. He seems bubbly and friendly, so I'm hoping that it doesn't change. It does help that he seems to be against showmances, but I think he might be naive in thinking that showmances will be targeted because of what's happened in the past. Dude, you know that plenty of showmances have stuck around far longer than they should have. Josh- Oh god, so much energy. His shirt is half buttoned, half unbuttoned, which bugs me. He's definitely going to be causing some issues, I can just tell. He says he'll be ruthless, cut people, do whatever it takes, yada yada yada. We shall see. But he did say that he wants that one loyal ally that'll calm him down. He does say that he wants to take care of his family when he wins, which does seem genuine. Cameron- This guy....ok, I take it back about non-attractive guys this season. This official photo didn't do him justice, especially since he isn't wearing glasses in the interview. He says he's a superfan and I love that he said that "they" took his glasses. Clearly, producer's move to make him look more attractive. Ok, I like this guy. Ok, I'm rooting for him. He's basically the most attractive "nerd" that they've cast in a while, but he's also very well spoken and displays a lot of confidence, yet is still fairly humble. We'll see how he is in the game, though. Jillian- I appreciate that she kept trying to politely shut Jeff down on his showmance angle. She also revealed that she had a weight loss surgery and lost 50 pounds. She seems alright. She's very calm, which I appreciate. Kevin- Well, he seems very nice. I really want him to make it farther than most do. With the houseguests not all being 20 something year olds, there may be a chance of him being with some of the 30s crowd. I want him around solely so the season can be watchable, but I hope he's not ostracized. Remember Donny and how he was ostracized by so many? The only people that were genuinely nice to him were Zach and Nicole by the end. Raven- My judgment of her is already clouded by her love for Frankie, but I tried to set that fact aside for the interviews. Her voice kind of bugs me. Does she have a lisp of some sort? I will say that she seems nice, and I like her pet peeve because I share it. She has an interesting story with her having a pacemaker in her stomach. I'm going to put aside my Frankie judgment of her for now, but I certainly won't forget. I'll give her one chance to prove me wrong. Matt- He seems alright for now. I like his personality and his banter with Jeff, but he seems like he could be too into the showmance idea, so I can see my opinion of him changing. Dominique- Well, she's ok, nothing special. She seems nice, but I've been fooled before. She's well spoken and seems like she could be good competition, but she's not really on my favourites list yet. But she has the potential to get there, so I think I could end up liking her once I see her on the feeds. Alex- She is not really on my list of anything. She's perky and....pretty dumb. She didn't even know Jeff was Jeff. Cody- Well, he looks....creepy, if I have to be honest. And I'm turned off by his personality. Maybe because he just seems to be awkward and deflecting from the fakeness that these interviews usually have, but it seemed like Jeff kept hitting a wall with Cody because he was not giving him what the typical answer would be; plus, Cody seems very blunt, so he could be perceived as a jerk when he might be alright. He's someone I will have to see in the house to form a better opinion on. Jessica- Listen; I actually liked Natalie, through all of her faults. Jessica, the one that shares my namesake, does not seem like a nice person. She reminds me of Natalie, but in a different way. I hate her faux diamond choker around the neck. I don't know; I'll have to see how she is in the house. Megan- Wow, her laugh is almost identical to Rachel's, but it's not as loud so it's not as obnoxious (but it will for sure get on my nerves if she sticks around). She seems ok for now, but I will need to see her in the house. I appreciate that she wants the experience. She looks fairly athletic so I could see her making it far. Elena- Personally, I'm not a fan. She's ok and I don't hate her, but it seems like I'll forget her. Mark- He is someone who I might end up liking. He seems to be smarter than he looks, and he's realistic. Plus, he seems genuine when he says that he wants to put his money into a foundation for single moms/parents. He seems humble about his experiences, and he has a likable personality. Maybe on a blander side, but not completely, like Corey. The one thing I don't like is him wanting a showmance, but he looks like he could easily end up in a showmance. Jason- He is....something. I'm personally not a fan, but I can see why people would be. I did have to turn off the interview halfway through because I was getting annoyed. Christmas- Ah yes, Corey's dream girl. I do like how interesting she is, so at least she'll have plenty of stories to tell. I did laugh at her hashtag, so that's a good sign. So I guess I might be rooting for Christmas, Mark, and Cameron? I'm not really sure yet. Link to comment

Callaphera June 19, 2017 Share June 19, 2017 Yup, Matthew is my eye candy this season so he'll be out early. Or turn out to be a super mega jerk. Happens every summer. Honestly, my biggest complaint about Christmas is about her name. Everyone's* gonna wanna save time and type Xmas and it's going to drive me batty. *not necessarily here, but at recap sites and on discussion threads. I get it for Jokers Updates feed updates because there's only so much room in the title but elsewhere, I expect a lot of it. 1 Link to comment
Brian Cronin June 19, 2017 Share June 19, 2017 So, I skipped Over the Top. Whether you liked it or not, was it important to the general history of the show? You know, like do you think it will inform this season like past seasons of the show typically do? Or was it more like its own thing (that you might have liked or disliked, but was still its own thing)? Just wondering if I have to read about Over the Top at all, or can I safely ignore it? Like will the threads be filled with, "Oh, man, this is just like 'Over The Top Player X'"? :) 1 Link to comment

I guess, like that winter version of BB, it could be brought up, so it's worth it to know the general idea of how that season went. It's more important when discussion the importance of America playing the game through voting for things. I imagine there will be comparisons if America is a huge influence in this upcoming season, because America basically was the sole decider of everything and the houseguests in OTT had to cater to America, rather than really playing the game with each other (it was more against each other). It's not a lot to glance over, either. Maybe don't worry about it until it becomes a problem. I personally found it important to the show, but I know that most wouldn't even consider it a season since not very many people would have been able to watch it. There were some firsts in OTT that may not even be considered as BB firsts (such as the first all female alliance that actually worked). 2 Link to comment

I'm out on Matthew & Christmas. I'm anti tattoo. Don't judge. Wait! That's what I'm doing. Never mind. Safe to assume that Cameron is playing the Ian/Steve role. Hasn't that been done to death enough? Jeez! I'm not sure who's role Raven is playing? Is she a new archetype? Quricky & cute....maybe, Nicole? Kevin is playing the role of Glen but skinnier. No angry African American dude this year. Wow! Who knew BB was so progressive. Oh, brother!!!! Link to comment

There were some firsts in OTT that may not even be considered as BB firsts (such as the first all female alliance that actually worked). Thanks, that's precisely the sort of thing that would interest me - important firsts and the like. BB9 is mostly skippable when it comes to BB history, so I guess I can see it being similar to BB9 (although, for those of you who watched it, I hope it was more interesting than BB9, which I believe is the worst BB season of all-time). 1 Link to comment

I've never seen BB9 myself, so I can't possibly compare the two. But for BBOTT, it was interesting because there were two clear sides, both in the house and in the fandom. It was quite entertaining to see people divided, and there were actually unexpected results throughout the season because of the divide. If Nicole hadn't have won BB18, BBOTT would have had another first in a female winner against a male. Again, it's up to you if you want to catch up on BBOTT. I mean, I loved it so I could easily say that it's worth it, but there are fans who aren't happy with the results of Jason Roy not winning, so they'd just trash the season, calling it pointless and not "a real season" and the like. So it's all in your perspective. I'd say the most important things to note is the major influence that America had on the season that did change how the houseguests played the game (as they didn't need to cater to each other anymore, but to America), there was an actual split divide in the house and with the audience, they brought in new twists and layers to the game, such as live DR sessions and Care Packages, and the all female alliance rocked. Ok, that last point is more subjective. 1 Link to comment

Lady Calypso June 20, 2017 Share June 20, 2017 I didn't catch the Will one, but I noticed the Morgan/Neeley one. What happened with the Will one? That house...it looks like they kind of changed things here and there, but gave up halfway through, especially when it comes to the backyard. They did attempt to change some things, but the colour scheme looks the same. I think they tried to "modernize". I'm not a fan of the bedrooms. Oh, but I am a fan of the more open concept kitchen. But they seem to have yet another "travel" theme, with the airplane, the globe wall decor, and whatnot. The bathroom has a spa-feel. But LOL at them using the same HOH bedroom theme as a few seasons ago. I can't remember which season (maybe 15, Elissa's season) but they basically had that same layout. I notice the nominee chairs have become one nominee couch, so it looks like there could be three noms again this season. 2 Link to comment

Same. The living room is alright. Oh, so I notice in the old Tokyo room, there are two chairs in the corner. Am I stupid, or have there not been chairs there in recent years, if ever? Usually, people are just sitting on the beds, but I could be misremembering as I don't usually pay attention to the room layouts once the houseguests are in there. Oh, and a chair in the old London room. Also, since it seems like this season is an architectural theme (or at least the bedrooms), I'll laugh if the Have Not room has the Have Nots sleeping in those filing cabinets. 1 Link to comment

Being in that house would bug me for the sole reason that I'm used to taking my shoes off in a house. 1 Link to comment
peachmangosteen June 20, 2017 Share June 20, 2017 Two of my biggest pet peeves are people leaving their shoes on when getting on a bed/couch and people leaving the water running while they brush their teeth, so BB really annoys me lol. 2 Link to comment
Lady Calypso June 20, 2017 Share June 20, 2017 The leaving the water running isn't as big of a pet peeve, although it still bugs me, but my other big one is people leaving food and drinks open on the counter. Now, I'd be cleaning up after everyone or complaining about it! I'm a messy person, but I'm not dirty, so even if I don't like cleaning and avoid it as much as possible, I still do it once it gets bad. So when I see these damn houseguests leaving food and drinks out and never putting them away, I get pissy. THIS IS WHY YOU PEOPLE HAVE ANTS BY WEEK TWO. At least if you put things away and keep the counters clean, the ants won't come right away! 4 Link to comment

Lamb18 June 20, 2017 Share June 20, 2017 I liked BB:OTT quite a bit as it ended up being "good vs. evil" and the good guy won!! The whole experience was fun for me: watching the show and seeing the competitions, care package, etc. all live without background music and editing; America's participation, and especially the chat rooms - I found one I bonded with and we had a lot of fun. Shelby's mom even chatted in there sometimes. Plus there were some good personalities and some that were unlikeable but fun to watch and comment on (Krusty). It was so fun to see Jason lose! I don't know how it fits in with BB as a whole since I only started watching with Nicole's first season but I guess I enjoyed it more than the season just before it where Nicole won. 2 Link to comment

Lady Calypso June 20, 2017 Share June 20, 2017 Ah, more interviews to watch. I definitely won't summarize them all. So, as a Canadian, I've never really watched BB Canada so I know very little about Ika. But she is such a better interview than Jeff is. I know she was the "villain" in her seasons, but at least she has some personality and a good rapport with the houseguests and isn't just mugging the camera like Jeff does. Oooh, I get so annoyed every time Jeff looks into the camera as he asks a question. Can we get Ika instead of Jeff? Josh really does seem like he'll either be a fun villain, or a fun wannabe villain, much like Zach was. I was put off by Jillian, even if she does make a fair point. I just don't like how she's immediately dismissive of all the girls. Most of the guys seem to be solid, and I'm liking most of them. Ramses is one who I have a feeling that will annoy me, and I'm actually not comfortable with Cody. I might actually end up hating him on the first night. He didn't have a good vibe with Jeff, but I chalked it up to Jeff. He didn't have a good rapport with Ika either. She recovered and managed to keep the interview less awkward, but Cody is not looking good in terms of likability for me. Neither is Mark who's already putting my off with seemingly innocent comments. Mr. "A Girl Won't Put Me Up But A Guy Might". The only thing keeping me from immediately writing him off is that he seems realistic and open minded about him being wrong. It really could go either way with him and I hope he proves me wrong. Christmas is by far my favourite girl this season, so I'm really hoping that she makes it to the finale, but I think the girls might try to get rid of her first. Dominique seems like fun and she seems very sweet. I have been burned before with Zakiyah, who I thought was a sweet, intelligent woman, so I am cautious of her. I really want to like Raven, but....she likes Frankie. I'm hoping that Jessica's telling the truth about not being catty. The one thing I'm noting that it does feel like there are more houseguests who aren't actually recruits. Obviously, there are recruits this season (Alex, for one), but a lot more of them were actually displaying some BB/BBCan knowledge, so at the very least, they did their research beforehand. 1 Link to comment

Maverick June 21, 2017 Share June 21, 2017 They didn't touch the backyard. Inside, I don't get the odd mix of 50s retro, sauna (that looks like it belongs in the winter edition), crazy quilt walls and airplane tarmac. I mean, if you're going for a mid-century theme and must incorporate planes, why wouldn't you use one of the classic Pan Am jets that personify the Golden Age of air travel? Oh,, and the arrows. WTF? Did they cast people so dumb they need arrows to navigate the house? And if so, shouldn't the arrows indicate what they're being directed to? Link to comment

I don't remember the house looking that disjointed, so that's why I'm still a bit surprised that my memory fails me in some ways. Maverick June 21, 2017 Share June 21, 2017 So the backyard has been the same since BB15? Geezus H. And I don't remember that bathroom. Since it looks like Production cleared out the Indoor Lumber Yard at Lowes you'd think it would stick out in my mind (even if the silly themes don't). But wasn't that Andy's season. Maybe that's why I don't remember. I think even BB would like forget he won. 2 Link to comment

I couldn't remember because I went through them so fast. Yeah I'll be surprised if he lasts that long. Ditto Alex, who just seems like an idiot. An annoying idiot, at that. It's easy to say at the outset that Cameron, Christmas, and maybe Josh look to be a step ahead. With Josh it will depend how much he can control that energy. Cameron might indeed fit into that Ian/Steve mold too much, but he seems very self aware and much more confident and sociable that either of those guys. I actually kinda got a Derrick vibe too that he might be able to read and control situations. I don't mean that as positively as it sounds because heaven knows that got boring fast. But I don't think Cameron is exactly like Ian or Steve enough for it to be a big distraction. He seems aware enough to change it up. I was really thinking Victor might be a likely candidate to return. 54 minutes ago, Callaphera said: ETA: It's kind of fun going through the album now that the season is gone. Lady Calypso June 21, 2017 Share June 21, 2017 So, first article up about the new house. Exciting points: No napping rule from BBOTT will stay! Or so Grodner says. At the moment, there will only be two noms The new house hurts my eyes. Too much going on. The yoga room is now the...green apple room? The theme is Summer of Temptation (hence, apples, snake, etc) Pandora's Box returning HA! In Chen's house tour interview, she says that she prefers Morgan over Nicole because Morgan wasn't a "worm" or phony! Sunday show, as been said before, will have a new type of competition or twist. Overall, I hate the house so far. The decor hurts my eyes. 1 Link to comment

The second bedroom being all romantic and flower filled and pretty... and clearly female. I don't expect Big Brother to be a voice of morality and equality and shit but for some reason, I just can't get over that. Even the colour palettes annoy the fuck out of me. The fake green apples on the lounge wall? My sympathy to the poor bastard intern that had to super glue all of those up there. The low couch thing looks comfortable until you see that reporter sliding off of it. My back just gave a twinge of sympathy. And I love the lush purple in the bathroom. If I could ever afford to have one of those super pricey penthouses in Vegas for a weekend, I would expect the bathroom to look like that, just with less of my grandmother's old serving platters on the wall. The HoH bedroom? Kinda hard on the eyes. But that safety deposit box set up on the wall is interesting from a twist perspective. The walls are so busy this year. Aww, I'm already bitching.
