I tried to watch the premiere of The Flash last night but had to stop and laugh my head off after hearing Joe tell Iris, in reference to Barry, "My son, your everything." I couldn't continue after that. Sigh. These crossovers are gonna be a chore to watch.

I do think I'm gonna try LOT. The hijinks just sound so much fun.

I didn't enjoy LoT this week! Very dull which was weird for LoT.

My ratings this week are:

1. Arrow (by a HUGE margain) - So good!!!! Noobs didn't bother me. I think I've trained myself to ignore them now if my favourite characters get appropriate screen time I can just tune them out!

OLICITY IS PERFECT AND EVERYTHING I WANTED FOR THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *does happy dance and swoons*

2. Flash - Didn't mind it even though Iris was super OOC in some parts. It was fun and the villain was different and very enjoyable

3. LoT - Only 2 parts that I loved was Mick "If anyone is going to kill Haircut it's me Lady" and BABY RAY!!!!! Wheeeeeeeee!!!!!! Just as cute as Adult Ray!

Will edit when I watch Supergirl.

The bridal shower starts in Star Labs? Or is this maybe a redo after the original shower gets interrupted by a mission? I like how Felicity thought to pack her field jacket she wears on Arrow this week to go hang out with girls in CC. ?

Felicity looks AMAZING!!!!! Those off the shoulder tops are really working on EBR!

I cannot wait to watch this ep! Felicity and Iris are so adorable in those pics!!!!!!!

I'm glad they have the ladies in sensible clothes for the mission!!!

The DCTV shows all tend to lose at least 0.1 during the season, so I think a 0.4 is inevitable for LoT, Supergirl, and Arrow this year. I think the only question is who will get there first.

I think that Arrow will probably be the first to drop to 0.4 (or even lower) with its upcoming Thanksgiving Day episode. It's also the oldest show.

Tbh I want to see where the Halloween episodes go for Flash and LoT as well. Not that I think it will be so drastic (if families are watching Flash or LoT, Trick or Treating usually ends around 8-8:30 anyway), but I just wonder since I would figure some people might be out at parties or such at night, similar to how people might be doing dinners for Thanksgiving.

I watched the S3 premiere of Blindspot last night. I'm posting this here because there were two scenes that made me go, "huh, did they copy that from Arrow?" Even though this is a spoilers thread, I'll add spoiler tags...

Spoiler

First, Jane and Weller apparently got married but were separated for 18 months because this multi-million dollar bounty was placed on Jane's head, so Jane left Weller and disappeared to protect him. Last night, they reunited. But although Weller wanted to take up where they left off, Jane had reservations. She said to Weller: "Life in Colorado was amazing. I had you, I had peace. I just didn't have a purpose." Sound familiar? On Arrow (401), Felicity said to Oliver: "I was. Deliriously happy with you, but… bored with everything else. I missed this. I missed… saving the city and helping people. It gives my life purpose."

Second, Patterson, Reade and Zapata were kidnapped by Venezuelan bad guys because they wanted Patterson - a blonde computer expert - to hack into a computer because she was "the best computer specialist in the FBI." On Arrow, Felicity is one of the world's best hackers. Actually, I thought that she was the world's best hacker until they introduced Cayden James, who's "the most skilled hacker the world has ever known." Now, on Blindspot, I'm waiting for that show to introduce a new male character who's a better hacker than Patterson.

Now, before you chime in , I know that these two things are not original to Arrow. Yes, the computer geek girl archetype predates Arrow (and may even predate Smallville). And the idea that a woman can be happy in her marriage but still miss a sense of purpose has been around since the dawn of time. But I just thought it was funny that both Arrow and Blindspot are Greg Berlanti productions and had these similar elements.

I don't know if its the writers or what but all GB productions seem to have similar outlines. Did Blindspot also kill off a main character in the first season finale?

The amount if similarities between Berlanti productions is pretty big, and very noticeable if you're the type of fan who remembers dialogues and stuff. Like in The Flash's last season finale, when Barry tells Iris to live her life, the phrasing was very similar to Oliver and Felicity saying goodbye in Nanda Parbat.

I was very surprised by some of this writer's picks for "Good" and "Bad," especially since this article is published at CBR (f/k/a ComicBookResources) - needless to say, I agree with some picks but disagree with other picks...

8 Horribly Cast Arrowverse Roles (And 7 They Actually Got Right)
Oct. 26, 2017  by Shaun Stacy
https://www.cbr.com/bad-and-good-arrowverse-castings/

15. BAD: DANIELLE PANABAKER AS KILLER FROST
14. GOOD: STEPHEN AMELL AS OLIVER QUEEN/GREEN ARROW
13. BAD: CHRIS WOOD AS MON-EL
12. GOOD: CAITY LOTZ AS SARA LANCE/WHITE CANARY
11. BAD: CANDICE PATTON AS IRIS WEST
10. GOOD: EMILY BETT RICKARDS AS FELICITY SMOAK
9. BAD: MEHCAD BROOKS AS JAMES OLSEN
8. GOOD: VICTOR GARBER AS MARTIN STEIN
7. BAD: KATIE CASSIDY AS BLACK CANARY
6. GOOD: CALISTA FLOCKHART AS CAT GRANT
5. BAD: GRANT GUSTIN AS THE FLASH
4. GOOD: JOHN BARROWMAN AS MALCOLM MERLYN
3. BAD: JOSH SEGARRA AS PROMETHEUS
2. GOOD: MELISSA BENOIST AS KARA ZOR-EL/SUPERGIRL
1. BAD: CIARA RENEE AS HAWKGIRL

I hate to wave the flag, but a number of those choices for being on the "bad" list look rather race-based. Though, yes, poor Ciara Renee did not work out at all as Hawkgirl but with the writing she got not sure anyone could have made that work better.  My other complaint is the Prometheus on Arrow was not supposed to have any connection to the comic version so complaining Chase wasn't enough like him is a ridiculous reason to judge his performance

Some of them are really... er... yeah.

Adding to this for me - Candice is fantastic as Iris and Grant is great as Barry (it's just they don't have much romantic chemistry which is fine - but they both play their characters well).

As Adrian Chase he worked alongside Oliver Queen for the first half of the season, then it just went downhill from there. Chucking pretty much any link to the source material, this Prometheus seems meant to be The Joker to Green Arrow’s Batman, leaving most of their interactions feeling forced.

Lots to agree and disagree with here.  Going down the list:

They're only looking at Danielle's portrayal of Killer Frost but I think she was miscast as Caitlin too.  When she goes into scientist mode it plays to me like she's still working on her degree rather than a practicing professional.  Not in what she says, cause I have no clue, but how she says it.  Fortunately, this is an easy fix.  Unfortunately, the show's been on long enough that I don't think anyone would give heed to that kind of criticism.

I agree that Amell is good as Oliver and Green Arrow.  I felt he was initially better as the Hood than Oliver but having Dig and Felicity to play off of helped him grow into latter.

I agree that Chris Wood isn't the right choice for Mon-el.  He's really good at playing villains, and was the only thing I enjoyed about the sixth season of Vampire Diaries before I quit, but needs to learn how to play a good guy.  More often than not, he's just forgettable.  Before the characters hooked up, I though he was good as an antagonist for Kara and I wish he'd remained in that role rather than being her schmoopy boyfriend.

I will always agree on Caity's portrayal as Sara.  She's a good example of when the right role finds the right actor.  I doubt she'll ever win any acting awards but she's perfect for Sara and Sara's perfect for her.

I disagree on Candace as Iris.  The Flash gives her next to nothing to work with yet she's always made me feel for Iris despite rarely having her own story.  And I give a huge side-eye to the claim that Candace has limited experience when they gushed about Amell's roles on Queer As Folk and Hung.  On QAF, he was in two episodes and didn't have a proper name so they're reaching with that one.  Even if Candace was on her first acting job I'd disagree because she elevates the role every episode.

I agree with on Emily as Felicity.  She's great and watching her with Ramsay and Amell is always a treat.

I disagree on Mehcad as James.  They wanted James to be a mature version of goofy Jimmy Olsen and that's what he delivers.  The stories he's given aren't great but that's nothing to do with his acting.  I'm looking forward to him clashing with Lena at CatCo and I hope they bring some more of his personal experience with Lex Luthor's evil into that story.

I agree on Victor as Martin.  The man is simply awesome and I've never seen him not be.

It still makes me mad that I agree on Katie as Laurel.  She was the reason I started watching this show and I was expecting a character that would mix snark and vulnerability.  I'd seen her do both on various shows but that only showed up in the pilot.  After that it was blah city.  Even when we consider that Laurel was based on Rachel Dawes rather than Dinah Lance it falls flat.  Rachel wasn't a good character but both Holmes and Gyllenhaal gave her a spark that was missing here.

I've never been a Calista Flockhart fan but I love her as Cat Grant.  She's the opposite of Cassidy in that I expected to watch her scenes in spite of the actress and she ended up one of my favorites.

I completely disagree on Grant as Barry.  To echo from above, I have many, many problems with Barry Allen but Grant has never been one.  If anything, Grant is why I don't throw things at the tv when Barry goes into Big Bad mode.

John Barrowman is a treasure and Arrow was smart to land him as Malcolm.

I disagree on Josh as Prometheus.  He was one of the few signs of life from last season.

I agree on Melissa as Kara.  She was the right choice.

I'm a rare one who loved Kendra and actively misses her so I strongly disagree with that one.  I think Ciara did fine with the role but, again, was saddled with an awful story and was opposite that block of wood with less charisma who played Hawkman.  I think LOT's mistake was using the Hawks at all.  They should have cast Ciara as another DC heroine and I think it would have worked out much better.

That was fun!

Flash Facts: 15 Things Even Hardcore Fans Didn’t Know About The Flash
Oct. 27, 2017  by Octavio Karbank
https://www.cbr.com/flash-facts-you-never-knew/

Quote

15. IF THE SHOW FAILED HE WOULD’VE JOINED ARROW
.  .  .
The network was very confident about the chances of The Flash’s success. After all, the inclusion of Barry on Arrow was well-received. Yet giving the Flash his own show was a risky move, but even if the pilot didn’t do well, that wouldn’t have been the last viewers would have seen of the character. According to those involved with both shows, the Scarlet Speedster would have been on Arrow as a recurring character.
*  *  *
4. ANDY MIENTUS AUDITIONED TO PLAY THE FLASH
.  .  .
Most notably, one such actor who auditioned was Andy Mientus. Even though he didn’t receive the role, he did appear several more times as the character Pied Piper. All things considered, while Gustin has certainly made the role his own, The Flash would’ve felt quite different had Mientus donned the red tights instead.

15. IF THE SHOW FAILED HE WOULD’VE JOINED ARROW
14. HE HAS AN EVIL BROTHER
13. HE’S KILLED
12. PSYCHICS CAN’T READ HIS MIND
11. HE’S FASTER THAN SUPERMAN
10. MARVEL PAID TRIBUTE TO THE FLASH
9. HE WAS THE LIGHTNING BOLT THAT TURNED HIM INTO THE FLASH
8. HIS DAD WAS THE ORIGINAL FLASH
7. HE’S MORE POWERFUL THAN YOU THINK
6. HE GAVE GREEN ARROW A TOUR OF THE AFTERLIFE
5. HE USHERED IN THE SILVER AGE
4. ANDY MIENTUS AUDITIONED TO PLAY THE FLASH
3. HE NAMED HIMSELF AFTER HIS FAVORITE SUPERHERO
2. HE’S TOO FAST FOR DEATH
1. HE WAS MASHED-UP WITH GHOST RIDER

From MCM London Comic Con press conference today - Manu Bennett talked about the restrictions put by WB on the use of certain DC characters on Arrow because of film plans and also how he and MG have discussed a Deathstroke TV series (my other transcriptions from this interview are posted on page 9 of the New Spoilers thread)...

Manu Bennett Deathstroke Arrow London MCM October 2017 Panel
Published on Oct 28, 2017, by Super HeroNexus
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99hjKCmmUqs

-- MB: "The future of Deathstroke has always been kinda like this - this roller coaster ride between WB, Warner Brothers, and their intentions with the character in the film world. You know, obviously now they've made the announcement of - ... I think really, you know, we, on the Arrow CW show, really brought Deathstroke back to life... It came down to some great writing from Marc Guggenheim and, uh, you know, it's a popular character again." He also said that he's met Joe Manganiello and that Joe is a "wonderful, wonderful guy" and "incredibly well-built." He thought that Joe would be a great Slade Wilson and wished him the best.

-- When reporter asked about an upcoming Slade Wilson adventure, MB: "You know, uh, Marc Guggenheim has been, you know, fairly, you know, honest with me about - about the way that he's been... constrained, you might say, in terms of how to include Deathstroke, you know, in the Arrow series. Uh, you know, Warner Brothers adult company, you know, the film branch, have, you know, made it... not possible to use certain characters on the Arrow TV show. The Suicide Squad. Harley Quinn. All these characters have been - you know, that pass of the prison cell and Harley Quinn was inside there. You know, and you had Deadshot, and you had all these other characters that could've been fleshed out more. But, you know, Warner Brothers parent company had said, 'ah, we're going to use them on the films and so, therefore, you gotta step back using them on the TV series.' Which is kind of like a shame, but, you know, part of, you know, who am I to say? You know, that's - at the end of the day, that's their property and they're going to treat it in the way they think is best in order to make the impact... But, you know, it is the way it is. But being on television, you know, the possibilities of television - Marc Guggenheim and I talked about a Deathstroke TV series, you know, and it would be awesome. You know, we could make it R rated. You know, we could maybe leap onto something - another network platform that we could be at that level. You know, make it Logan - Logan-esque and all that sort of stuff. You know, we can do it. You know, Marc Guggenheim and I could write that series. But it's not really - it's not our property to say. You know, but I know the fanbase out there would be keen for it... But who am I, man? Just a small guy from New Zealand."

-- On the upcoming two-episode Slade Wilson two-parter (605-606) on Arrow, MB sounded really happy with them and also hinted: "And Marc Guggenheim kinda, like, opened up the doors to so much more. And I can't give you any spoilers on that. But honestly, the way that these two episodes open a door is interesting, you know. There's a potential future."

My local PBS station played She Loves Me last week, which starred Zachary Levi and Laura Benanti (Alura/Astra on Supergirl).  Levi was so good (and crush-worthy).   Benanti was good too but her character is less likable.  He should do well as Shazam if it's just about the acting.

I try to like Manu Bennett but he seems to have an ego the size of Slade's wanderings.

I LOVE that musical.  I got to see Zac and Laura B. perform it live on Broadway.  I'm so glad PBS broadcast it because it was a pretty short run.

I guess I'm in the minority because I preferred Zac as Fandral a lot more than Josh Dallas in Thor.  I thought he fit a lot better with the level of humor in Thor 2 that was missing in the first movie.  I know virtually nothing about Shazam so I have no idea how he'll do in the role but hopefully the movie allows for some comedy rather than being the typical dark, broodiness DC is known for.

Second MB press conference at MCM London Comic Con - he talked again about the WB's restrictions on using DC characters on TV, the new Deathstroke big screen movie, and a possible Deathstroke TV series...

Manu Bennett Press Interview - MCM Comic Con London (Sunday) - Oct 2017
Published on Oct 29, 2017, by Geektown
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QeEn3PEFu4

-- On what he was most excited about coming up on Arrow and getting to finish up his Slade Wilson arc, Manu Bennett: "Well, you know, there's sort of some speculation going on right now about Slade's back on Arrow and Joe Manganiello's been offered to do a Deathstroke film, which is great for Joe. He's a wonderful guy. I've met him a couple times. Just a wonderful guy. You know, awesome physique. He'll fit a Deathstroke costume amazingly... And he'll have his own take on it, you know. And I wish him the very best... It'll be interesting to see how, with all that great production quality, you know, what they can bring visually to the character. But I will say, being able to do a character on television and have several series to flesh out a Slade Wilson, you know, then you can play with a lot of the gray matter and, you know, manage to develop that wealth on the TV show. But, you know, on the big screen, there's going to be a new Deathstroke and, you know, between the two, there's always been this sort of ongoing story where Warner Brothers parent company, which is the feature film arm, have requested, you know, that certain elements of Arrow's world, uh, be finished - you know, things like Deadshot, Harley Quinn, the Suicide Squad, all those things that were gonna be part of the Arrowverse. But, uh, had to held back because of the reason of the film arm wanting to reserve that, you know, for the film... Who knows? That's their decision-making. That's their properties. They know what they're doing in their game, you know, so we just play ball."

-- On whether he would do a Deathstroke TV series, MB: "Ah, listen, you know, the speculation of a Deathstroke TV series is, you know, based upon fan comments that have been going on, the fact that the fans would like to see that... Someone posted online and sent it to my twitter account, and I responded, 'yeah, that would be cool.' I want it to be R-rated, I want it to be dark, like Logan... To pay Deathstroke a real service in a TV series, I think you'd want to go darker than anything, you know... Maybe even make it look more international, you know, where he's sort of like an international soldier.... You know, I've had these conversations with Marc Guggenheim after the fact and, you know, Marc was very supportive of the idea, thought it was a great idea. You know, we bandied it about a little bit on twitter and people like Marv Wolfman weighed in, you know.... Also, Geoff Daniels, the Deathstroke illustrator - he weighed in. Everyone was going, 'good idea.' ... So who knows, you know? I mean, at this stage, I guess Warner Brothers is just looking at the feature film. They've announced it, so they're definitely focusing on that... Who knows what will happen after that? You know, maybe they'll get to that point and fans will be like, 'ahhh, yeah, more Deathstroke, more Deathstroke!' You know, if somebody asked me to do a TV series, I - I - you know, I'd definitely not want it to sit in the PG arena. I think, to really pay a homage to Deathstroke independently, you'd want to go hard. But Joe's got a shot at that, you know... I'm really keen to see how gritty that script's gonna be, you know? ... I wonder what it's rating is going to be. It'd be great if it was R rated. That would be great if it was like Logan. That was heavy, really heavy, you know... I'm probably just as excited as everybody else to see what it's gonna look like on the big screen. Wish it was me, Joe. (laughs) But good luck... Joe's a really wonderful guy and he'll have a shot at it."

ETA: I suspect that WB/DC is looking for their own Deadpool success, so I'm guessing the new Deathstroke film is going to be R rated, with a lot of violence and dark humor. Also, based on the Justice League trailers, it looks like they're trying to inject more humor into their movies.

15 Insane Ways Actors Trained Their Bodies To Become Superheroes
Oct. 29, 2017  by Justin Venneri
https://www.cbr.com/ways-actors-trained-to-become-superheroes/

Quote

9. STEPHEN AMELL
.  .  .
Stephen Amell certainly needed to look the part of a superhero on Arrow and he doesn’t cut any corners in the gym. You might be surprised to read this, but Amell actually doesn’t do much training with free weights. In fact, he prefers doing bodyweight exercises like chin up variations, push ups, handstand push ups, muscle ups and running.

He can even do the salmon ladder which is extremely impressive and no easy feat. He also includes a lot of isometric exercises and plank variations. He believes that the best way to stay in shape is to constantly change your workout so that you’re not always doing the same thing day in and day out. He is also a big believer in parkour and does so whenever he can during his hectic schedule.
*  *  *
1. GAL GADOT
.  .  .
Gal Gadot went through six months of rigorous training to get into fighting shape to play Wonder Woman for the DCEU. There was a lot riding on her nailing the part in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and many agreed that she was the best part of the movie. On top of that, her solo movie has single-handedly proven to a lot of people that there is still hope for some great DC movies in the future.

Her workout regimen lasted a total of six hours per day. She spent two hours lifting weights, two hours choreographing her fight scenes and two hours horseback riding. Her hard work certainly paid off has she gained a total of 18 lbs of muscle for the role.
