S04.E06: Double Cheeseburger

Recommended Posts

Oh my god...a genuinely funny episode.

Don't know what was odder: Carol having the baby in her sleep, or that she was having twins (also painlessly). Totally like Carol & Tandy to name the baby Bezequelle. Naming the other daughter Mike was also fitting, and touching at the same time.

Next week: Tandy finally tries his hand with being a dad. Yay...

Welcome to the world, Bezequil and Yorbalinda Mike! :)

This was a sweet episode. Tandy sure has come a long way since s.1, when he used Carol's desire to procreate ("REPOPULATION, ya dumb donkey!") as an excuse to try to get into Melissa's pants ("Carol, do you want our babies to have sex with each other?").

Even Todd and Melissa's conflict over whether to have children has taken on a gentler tone (considering they temporarily broke up over it in s.2), though I guess it's easier for Todd now that there are children in the group he can help take care of.

Where was Jasper during all this?

I wonder if the kid who plays him was even available to film that week -- I'm guessing not... :\ (The next two eps are definitely supposed to involve Jasper -- with Todd trying to be a father figure to him in "Gender Friender," and both main plots centering around the boy in "Not Appropriate for Miners.")

I'm really not looking forward to this being the "Tandy, the incompetent father" show.  ugh.  Name one sitcom that actually got better with the introduction of a baby.

I think this show is at its best when they are dealing with last-people-on-earth stuff, survival, finding weird things, etc.  (OK, yes, repopulating the world falls under "survival", but you know what I mean.)  I wish we could have a few child-free episodes and get back to the other stuff.

All the characters over the seasons that I would have been caring about are gone or dead (Jack Black the last) and I don't really give a sh** about the ones that are there,  I will end this season (Maybe on fastforward) since  I started watching it and than I am over with this show.

And what about the bomb ?   Or did they really put us through all that backstory on the house -- only for there to be no bomb ?

Did baby Mike fall out of Carol like the baby in Monty Python and the Meaning of Life (The Miracle of Birth Part 2) ?

Maybe the bomb is being saved for the final episode?

Maybe the last episode will skip ahead to when the babies are grown.

And the only surviving adult is Gail, who hasn't aged a day due to being pickled from all the alcohol in her system.

I liked "double cheeseburger" as an expression for a second baby.

Also, I laughed a lot more than I should have at Tandy's "Say whatever you will about the cleanliness of my balls..." line.

Glad the population count is moving upward this week.

Carol pulling the "Dual Simba" in the background while Tandy and Gail argued was hilarious and delightful. Todd collecting his Thermos was a close second for my favorite visual too.

It's good the children are all here now as the ladies had been pregnant for a while, and I'm glad they didn't go the super dramatic route this time after Erica's pregnancy, as unlikely as it would have been. That said, there's going to be some work to not have it be all parenting all the time.

If he can wait 20 years, Jasper will have a harem.

They really could have used a baby boy.

LOL

I can't believe it! Carol didn't feel any contractions?  As in nothing, like she just had a poo.

I can't believe that the first baby wasn't lying in a pool of blood and other effluvium when she slid out.  Natural childbirth can be nearly painless, but it's always messy.

 Bezequelle ..... really ?

I have a bad memory -- Did this name come up before? If so, do we know how Carol came up with it?

OMG, I loved that too. Todd had a lot of funny bits in this ep. Loved when he said he didn't have baby powder on his shirt, but cocaine. "This is cocaine. I was doing cocaine. I love it."

Or an orgasm. Actually, I remember a pregnant coworker from many many years ago who had been reading a hippie-type book on childbirth and said it was described as an orgasmic shit.

I teared up when Carol said the name of the second baby would be Mike.

I loved the different ways Tandy was trying to get Carol into labor, starting with the tabasco. But the best one was scaring her. "Sit back and RELAX!" Then Carol's face during the nipple play was hilarious in how unaffected she was. "I think I'm too tired to be stimulated nippilarily."

I think Carol first mentioned it in "Baby Steps" (2x7), calling dibs on the baby names Beziqueel and Yorbalinda after Erica announced her pregnancy; she brought them up again at the end of s.2 just before Tandy went back to Tucson to find Mike ("I want you to come home so that Yorbalinda or Bezequiel can meet their daddy").

Ugh, I kinda wish that between the two names, Carol had gone with the easier-to-spell one... xD How about just calling her "Bez" for short?

Like Mike, I too was the surprise double cheeseburger. It was in the 70s, so while ultrasound technology existed, it was only used for rich women who could afford it or if there was some kind of issue/problem with the pregnancy. So they were not expecting me at all. My grandmother teased me for years about how she had to stay up for two days to rush my baby quilt so both my sister and I could leave the hospital wrapped in them.

Erica's anger at the ease of Carol's deliveries was hilarious. And understandable.

I want her to have just enough pain to respect the process. Ha! I found this episode to be hilarious. I also appreciated that we already had the tense and intense birth scene for Erica, so I appreciated a different take.

I am a big fan of this show but this episode was just... stupid. It was science fiction.  the whole birth story was like a five year old made it up, or a room full of writers who wanted to for the absurd. :-\

Yes, and then Carol and Tandy sleep all night, waiting for baby 2 to arrive. Baby 1 didn't wake them up at all?
