Hmm, the only person I can imagine they'd recast is Noah.  Aging him up, maybe?

As to a new ADA, the only specifics that are must-haves for me are that they're an interesting character, played by an interesting actor, and they don't eat the show whole with their screentime, like they did with Stone, to the detriment of other characters (namely, Carisi.)

Of course, they might go the way of Criminal Intent and dispense with a regular ADA altogether.  There were a number of episodes this season that didn't go into the courtroom at all.  I'd be okay with that, if it became a regular thing, as I've felt the courtroom scenes have had particularly weak writing the last couple seasons.  One less regular means a savings of money, too, and this show's budget ain't what it used to be.  Maybe that's a consideration for them.

You see, I wouldn't want that, it is Law AND Order, what goes on in the courtroom should be just as important as what goes on in the street.

It's not without precedent in the L&O franchise, though.  See:  Criminal Intent.  And if the money is a consideration, I can see them going this route or just using a recurring ADA or ADAs, as the need would arise.

But, who knows?  Maybe we'll get a stellar new character and better writing for the courtroom scenes.  I'm on board for that.

Someone who doesn’t have personal drama and doesn’t bring personal crap into their job as ADA, and someone who is by the book and will call out the SVU Squad/Benson on some of their crap but who isn’t an asshole. I don’t give a fuck about their race, sexuality or relationship status, that shouldn’t matter or be an issue.

Perhaps it shouldn't, but if I'm Chernuchin looking to tell the same types of stories and keep some semblance of "separate yet equally important", which definitely seems to be something he wants, I'd be looking for a woman with #MeToo cred and probably would prefer a minority. Just to make life easier and shut up the trolls and appeal to Mariska's fanbase in the focus groups. Although probably what they are looking for the most in whomever they bring in will be a stage actor with television experience who is willing to work cheaply in a recurring role.

Actually I think the precedent they are most likely to follow is SVU itself in the years before Barba where they did what you are talking about and use recurring ADAs including bringing back old favorites for a short run - precisely because they were looking to save money an keep the show going despite declining ratings. I definitely think Chernuchin wants to keep the legal side of the show, both because of his interests and his trying to go for more of a classic SVU feel. Who knows maybe they make Carisi the ADA, for the same reduced number of episodes as the last couple ADAs and finally bring in a new detective who is even younger and cheaper than Scanavino? Whatever they do I will bet money that it will be about cutting the cast budget yet again.

I am as adamantly opposed to that idea as a person can be.  I want more Carisi time, not less, and, as much as I want them to recognize that he has a law degree, I want Carisi to stay a detective.

I have no doubt, whatever they do, that money will be the deciding factor.  But, hey, if they want to cut cast costs, go for the bigger money than PS's.  Cut KG's time.  I have no problem with reduced episodes for her, especially since their tired storyline for her this season was a retread of 17.  Plus, I won't mention that it's questionable that she should still have her shield.  Oh, look.  I mentioned it.  My finger slipped.

1. A woman is found raped and beaten in 'Pervert Park' a resettlement community for sex offenders (and yes, I recently watched the documentary). How do the SVU proceed with an investigation with witnesses who are all suspects and resolutely hate them?

2. A woman reports being raped by an invisible supernatural presence in her home (as in The Entity). Is she mentally ill, a hoaxer or is there something more to the story? I have the idea for the end scene with Benson lying in her bed thinking about the case when her bedroom door opens for no reason at all. She looks afraid for a moment then simply gets up and shuts it.

3. The SVU investigate a rape in a woman's prison by a transgender prisoner, leaving the authorities with the problem of how to segregate their convicts in a fluid gender society?

Wasn't there an SVU where the perp was transgender and had to be incarcerated in a men's prison, since she was technically male???? It wasn't the whole episode, just something thrown in at the end.

I maybe off here, but was the transgender killed in prison, that set off this political or social issue for this episode?

No, the episode @illdoc is thinking of is "Fallacy" from S4. She wasn't killed, but gang raped, and it was at the very end of the episode.

A recurring ADA would be a nice palate cleanser after 2 years of the ADA’s personal life eating up the show. Also, it would be great to have someone who is good at law rather than someone we’re just told is good and wins cases because the plot demands it.

Alex Cabot returns to the ADA position, now happily married to Elliot.  Olivia, stunned, realizes that it is Rollins she has loved all these years,

marries her, and now focuses her hoarse whisper acting on LGBTQIA victims, telling them at each and every opportunity that , "It is not your fault."  The Stabler and the Benson-Rollin families vacay together every year at the shore.

Alternatively, Fin reveals that he has been attending law school at night, a la Carisi, and has finally passed the bar.  He takes a job in the DA office and he and Alex rotate in the ADA role.  He takes to wearing expensive suits to work, regrows his ponytail and never gives up his street cred.

Unfortunately it is impossible to do this while also having Benson always be right and have a significant role in the legal storylines, or to have a fully developed legal plot along with an actual investigation and 15 minutes on Benson and/or Rollins' soapy personal drama. And TPTB have made it clear where there priorities lie.

If we have a female ADA who will Benson have UST with? And before you talk about Cabot forget it. St. Benson Protector of Victims has killed Butchy McFabulous and Mariska does not want any of that subtext! And given the show's current structure and mandate he only way we don't get a deluge of personal life stories is if they go back to disposable ADAs that never get any plots.

I would love to see Michael Moriarty (Ben Stone), plus Jerry Orbach (Lenny Briscoe).  Except they both have died 😢.

Ben Stone is dead, but as of now, Michael Moriarty is still with us. He is retired from acting and living in British Columbia. He had a pretty bad falling out with Dick Wolf back in 1994, so that's why he never returned to make an appearance on any L&O shows.

1.  A victim of sex trafficking accuses a group of men in organised crime of raping her. However one turns out to be an undercover federal agent who states that he did so in order to maintain his cover and would have been killed if he'd refused. Things get more complex when he reveals one of the trafficked victims to also be an undercover agent from another agency who is taking drugs and having sex with her clients for the same reasons.

2. The SVU are baffled by a series of rapes with an identical MO and victimology but different DNA recovered from each scene.

3. A journalist wins plaudits for smuggling ISIS slave girls out of Syria after purchasing them at an auction, eventually marrying one. However after undergoing therapy his wife then accuses him off rape saying that he took advantage of her when she was still under the influence of brainwashing.

4. A Chinese-American woman accuses a defence contractor of raping her at a party but things get more complex when the FBI reveal she is suspected of being a spy and may be using this to extort sensitive information from him.

5.  A video of 2 beautiful lesbians publicly having sex on the last train home goes viral but the women later claim to have been coerced into doing so by a gang of threatening youths. Things grow more complex when the SVU uncover a recording of one of the women using a racial slur towards the youths after they got off the train and controversy is raised over the way lesbians are depicted in porn (perhaps a chance to bring Kathy Griffin back?)

No. 1 maybe a little too complex for them because they would have to come up with actual believable excuses to justify their actions. This reminds me of the reason they thought up for Rollins when she was compromised in that illegal gambling house. I didn't really buy that excuse that an undercover agent was conveniently present, so as to "sort of " exonerate her. I thought that was pure "soap opera".

No.2 has merit. How many different DNAs would there be?

No.3 has Benson written all over it. It will be a little talk with Benson that will shake her out of her brainwashed state. I also see an underage sex slave moment part, dealing with a billionaire a la Jeffrey Epstein.

No.4 has a lot of originality to it. It can't have any grey area to it, she is either a spy or she isn't.

No.5 would pit racial tension against lesbian tolerance. It would be interesting to see how fin would approach this.

My wish list is simple:  Less Benson & Rollins; More Carisi.
I've just read a "news" article which said viewers are desperate to see a romantic relationship develop between Rollins & Carisi. Can I get a HELL NO? In fact, no love interest ever for Carisi in case I ever go to Manhattan and find him lighting a candle in the 10th Catholic church I accidentally searched for him.
Also would like people being questioned at work to stand TF still and not be storming around with a clipboard, stacking boxes or not putting down the cleaver and continuing to chop up meat.
May I suggest a drinking game where we all take a shot every time Benson says, "It's okay, it's okay..." or "NONE of this is your fault."?
And lastly, of course, more diversity with the victims and maybe a case that just can not be brought to trial, no matter how hard they effin' try.
ETA: I don't want anyone to die from alcohol poisoning, so maybe half & half with soda per shot.

More Carisi, more anyone besides Benson and/or Benoah.  More Fin.  More Carisi and Fin.  More Fin and Carisi.

If Donal Logue comes back, let him act the hell out of most of the episode.  Not just a drop-in token Jesse's Baby Daddy moment.

My real wishlist?  Murphy comes back, Saint Olivia goes to the great heavenly skies, and SVU has a new Lt.

I would hope DL thinks himself too good to come back to SVU. That dude is woefully underused. And I do NOT need more Rollins drama.

How about they offer a compromise where Benson effs off on vacay, out of view, far, far away, for a few? And No-Wah isn't kidnapped? Or is kidnapped but the NYPD can't do shit. It's better than nothing. I think...

I have said that for awhile!!  Rollins is known to not use birth control and likes the occasional one night stand.  Very easy to rewrite; he requested a paternity test before paying child support and it would explain why he hasn’t been seen in years.  Much prefer Murphy in the squad room than playing out Rollins baby daddy scenes.  Total waste of DL.

No, the Lupo/Bernard pairing was very good, in fact the whole final cast of the Mothership gelled really well together and was very strong. The Mothership didn’t end because of a weak cast or weak writing, it ended because for some reason NBC wanted it to end and wanted to try L&O: LA instead. It was a massive mistake and a stupid decision by NBC.

Never forget! It is impossible to understand the questionable (at best) decisions NBC has made with SVU without keeping that massive blunder in mind. NBCUniversal has been basically trying to make it up for the last decade. Both for good - letting the fans get a proper ending for CI and for bad - desperately trying to keep this show going so that it can break the record that the mothership deserved. It's also why the show has been so willing to throw any sense of quality control and give us the same stories - part of the reason NBC decided to try to keep and retool L&O:LA and cancel original recipe is that the demos were soft. So it makes sense to keep shedding viewers by telling the same story over and over again if it appeals to affluent females 18-49 who see themselves in the victims and are willing to buy into the whole "empowerment" line being pushed by certain "creative" voices.

1.  An 17 year old sex trafficking victim makes an accusation against a wealthy financier. However a documentary funded by the defence 'Sugar Daddies' turns public opinion against her, victims of much more brutal and low rent trafficking stating that being flown around the world in private jets and partying in exclusive nightclubs with the rich and famous (including maybe members of royalty) does not compare to their experience. Things get even tougher for the SVU when it is revealed her new boyfriend is also a wealthier older man.

2. A brutal war develops between 2 street gangs when one of the groupies for one alleges she was gang raped by the members of the other. However the SVU begin to suspect she has orchestrated the entire thing for her own motivations in order to destroy them both.

3. When a rapist is revealed to have attended a seminar where defence solicitors are taught the strategies to defeat rape prosecutions Benson takes the opportunity to send an undercover (maybe MH's cousin?) into it, ostensibly to gather evidence but also to learn information which may benefit the SVU, a great opportunity to reintroduce some of the lawyers we've met over the years (Barry Bostwick, Richard Kind) and see their stories.

4. The SVU receive a series of valuable tips from an unknown source. However when they investigate they discover the information came from a member of a secret intelligence cell within the NYPD whose role is not to fight crime but gather dirt on the force's political opponents. Things become more complicated when Benson discovers that Cragen was formally a member of the team and that 1PP has used the blackmail material in the past to protect her and other members of the SVU.

5. A foreign prosecutor alleges he was fired from his job of prosecuting underage sex tourists, claiming that a US government official caused him to be dismissed to protect his relative as part of a quid pro quo.

1.  An artist produces drawings of naked teenagers, the law struggling to differentiate between what is pornography and what is legitimate art. Meanwhile the SVU also deal with the case of a man who held his wife prisoner in their home to avoid her having an abortion for their Down syndrome baby until she was beyond the legal time limit.

2. A young boy is found dying in the woods outside New York with some kind of bizarre tribal death rites. The SVU face a wall of silence in his community as it is revealed he died as part of a rite of passage initiation and their attitude was that if he didn't survive it he wasn't worth much anyway.

3. The undercover used to entrap Harvey Weinstein is caught up in a scandal where it is revealed she is a part-time S&M prostitute, hence why she didn't use the code word to get him to stop during their sting operation. The SVU probe into her abusive childhood which gave her these predilections in the first place whilst Benson tries to persuade 1PP not to hush the scandal up by dropping the case and Carisi has an ethical dilemma over how much to disclose to the defence.

4. When the coroner defines the death of a severely handicapped man as murder the SVU arrest and convict his parents, the only people who could have had access to him, one persuaded to give testimony against the other. However when a series of other handicapped people also start dying in the same circumstances the SVU wonder if they are actually innocent and if they have a 'mercy killer' on their hands.

5. An extreme right wing group 'No Sanctuary' (possibly led by the Anne Coulter like figure who was raped during the Hudson University protest, I forget the episode?) campaigns against New York's policy towards illegal immigrants. When the wife and daughter of the leader of the counter protests are snatched off the street and gang raped by a group of Spanish speaking men the SVU must work out if this is coincidence or a false flag operation?

Benson; "Yes, my brother Simon and his family"

OD; "Good, otherwise he'd have to be taken into care when you're arrested"

Benson; "WHHHHHHUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHH?"

Meanwhile over at Ohio SVU (in the minds of the L&O writers);

13 year old girl; "I've been raped and impregnated by my stepfather"

Ohio DA; "Well this kid you're carrying is a blessing from god, part of his divine plan and may even be the Messiah. You should feel lucky"

13 year old; "What about my rape?"

Ohio DA; "Well that's you're punishment for being a whore and seducing him, just like Lot"

1. A campaign group tries to abolish monetary compensation for sex abuse, arguing that it gives incentive for false allegations and want to offer free therapy for life instead, splitting the opinions of the SVU. Meanwhile Carissi witnesses a crime occurring off duty but without his sidearm is unable to intervene, giving him pause for thought over no longer being a cop.

2. A previous conviction of the SVU is put in doubt when a recording of his accuser is put on the web which seems to exonerate him. The SVU hunt a suspect who befriends and records past accusers and exposes them as lying. But is she editing the footage in order to change what they're actually saying? Meanwhile the father of one of Rollins' kids finds himself promoted outside New York and takes her to court for greater access, Carisi representing her pro bono.

OD; "Is that your son? Do you have any relatives who could care for him?"

Benson; "Yes, my brother Simon and his family"

OD; "Good, otherwise he'd have to be taken into care when you're arrested"

Benson; "WHHHHHHUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHH?"

Meanwhile over at Ohio SVU (in the minds of the L&O writers);

Except Simon's dead now, after Benson left the vile voicemail for him when he didn't turn up at their meeting.

Watching in the UK so hadn't seen that ep yet;

1. A new reality TV show has a group of womanisers being awarded points for the women they seduce with bonuses for especially highly regarded hook-ups (a cop after a traffic stop, a stewardess mid-flight, a nurse whilst a patient, a nun) but one then alleges she was raped to allow one contestant to win. The case splits opinions in the SVU, Benson despising the contestants, Fin having to admit admiration for them and Rollins despising the hook ups.

Meanwhile the kids of Benson's dead brother Simon turn up at the precinct wanting to visit his grave as their mother wouldn't let them. She and Noah bond with them and want further contact but their mother is adamant she wants them to forget all about their father and that includes never seeing their aunt and adoptive cousin again.

2. A woman is found badly beaten and in a coma and Dr Warner also diagnoses her as being raped due to having internal injuries. The SVU arrest and prosecute her last sexual partner but when the victim recovers consciousness she states their sex was violent but consensual and her other wounds the result of being robbed, leaving Dr Warner facing an avalanche of lawsuits and appeals over her previous findings.

3. A young girl is found drowned in the pool after a drug fuelled celebrity lesbian party, her devoutly religious parents convinced their daughter was not gay and was murdered. SVU must juggle interviewing numerous witnesses with wildly differing versions of what happened, political interference from various factions and a voracious interest from the press, especially when a suggestive picture of Rollins with one of the suspects is taken out of context.

4. A female journalist disguises herself as a man and lives as one for year in order to write a book on the subject. However when she reveals herself she is accused of rape by a former partner from the period who states she would never have had sex with her if she knew she was a woman.

1. A high profile married celebrity comes out as gay and divorces her embittered husband. However when he accuses her of sexually molesting their daughters during their custody hearing the team and public are split over gender bias and stereotypes.

2. The victim of a Haitian sex trafficking is found to be registered as officially dead, the SVU finding themselves embroiled with potential zombies and voodoo mysticism.

3.   A red pill/trad wife is raped and the defence use her submissive online postings to allege her consent.

Based on "The Longest Night of Rain"

Carisi; "We have you admitting on tape that you burgled the shrinks office and raped the dead female cop"

Gary Wald; "No you don't, all I said was that the files from the burglary are gone. I didn't take them"

Carisi; "Huh? Well you admitted raping her to Tucker"

Wald; "No I didn't, when Tucker referred to her rape he meant her fake rape allegation, he even made air quotes with his fingers when he said it. You could ask him yourself if he hadn't shot himself. Plus if he wasn't of unsound mind due to his brain cancer"

Carisi; "Huh? Well you admitted to 'tuning her up'"

Wald; "By which I meant having an argument with her and setting her straight, she then physically attacked me and I defended myself, that's what I meant by tuning her up"

Carisi; "Um?"

She looks afraid for a moment then simply gets up and shuts it. in a shaky, whispery voice, calls out, "Elliott, is that you?

1. A foreign bride alleges to have been raped in order to explain her lack of virginity on her wedding night. However her medical exam reveals her to be the victim of botched 're-virginisation' surgery leading to the prosecution of a black market surgeon who argues that he is helping women in need.

2.  A popular horror film featuring women being transformed into mannequins by an evil genius sparks a craze for ASFR. When mannequins start appearing on public display in New York resembling missing girls the SVU must discern if this is a publicity stunt for an insane artist, a serial killer advertising real ASFR murders or a loved one trying to reignite interest in lapsed missing persons cases?

3. An aging film star publishes his autobiography in which he recounts secret accusations of child abuse against him by his daughter which he dismisses as fantasy. This prompts her to come forward and make the accusations publicly leading to a campaign to ban his book.

4. Rollins sister and father ask her take part on group therapy with then on addiction. She hears testimony from another participant who blames her underage affairs with older people on sex addiction but Rollins suspect she has actually been groomed.
